Middle School Samurai

My character’s final stats were as follows:

    Strength 6

    Agility 15

    Stamina 9

Since my Strength stat got nerfed to hell, I decided to max out my Agility stat.

After creating the character, I was transported to the middle of a dark room.

    “Whoa…”

I immediately moved my arms and legs.

Was it because of the low Strength stat? The armor I was wearing felt pretty damn heavy.

While I was fiddling with the solid armor that sloped down over my shoulders, two weapons appeared in front of me.

One was that katana I’d seen in various subculture media.

The sleek blade gleamed with a blue luster.

    Next was a massive sword.

This sword, named Nodachi, vaguely resembled a katana.

But its handle and blade were gigantic, as if only giants could use it.

I let out a small groan as I stood before the two swords.

It seemed I had to choose one of these two swords.

My 고민 [gomin – worries] didn’t last long. I reached out and grabbed the massive Nodachi.

    “Ugh…”

My body swayed from the weight of the sword in my hand.

Was I too used to the game Deron? The heavy sensation in my wrist felt unfamiliar.

If it were Deron, I would’ve swung a sword like this with one hand…

Pushing aside the fleeting thought, I raised the sword high with both hands.

    “Hoo…”

And then I realized. I couldn’t wield this weapon in my current state.

Too bad, but I give up.

I put down the Nodachi and picked up the katana next to it.

The katana also felt quite heavy, but it didn’t feel as overwhelming as before.

I was examining the katana when the Nodachi I had placed on the floor disappeared, and a training dummy appeared in front of me.

[Use the Samurai’s basic skill [Iaijutsu] to attack]

    [Iaijutsu]

When drawing the sword from its scabbard, ignore 20% of the opponent’s defense for 1 second.

I frowned as I read the message that appeared before me.

As far as I knew, VRS skills didn’t have system buffs.

In other words, you had to use all the skills yourself.

First, since there was a condition that said, ‘when drawing the sword from its scabbard,’ I had to put the katana back into its scabbard.

I grabbed the scabbard hanging from my waist and shoved the katana into it.

    Srrr- Tak-

    “Hoo…”

A low breath escapes my lips. Beyond my narrowly opened eyes, I see the stupidly standing scarecrow.

Swing the sword at the enemy. The moment I think that, my body instinctively takes a stance.

It’s not much different from what I did in Deron.

Only the type of weapon has changed.

    “Hayat!”

With a short shout, a huge slash is unleashed from inside my body.

    Chwak-!

My right leg, extended forward, strongly stomps on the ground. The handle of the sword in my hand was trembling.

The attack was successful. But the problem was what came after.

The sharply gleaming blade of the katana had dug halfway into the scarecrow and was deeply embedded inside.

I frowned and pulled with all my might, but it wouldn’t budge.

    “Eeet!”

If one hand doesn’t work, use both.

I took a stance and pulled the katana with all my strength.

At that moment, the katana that had been stuck in the scarecrow was pulled out with a *whoosh*, and I couldn’t overcome the recoil, so I collapsed to the floor.

    “Huk…”

I realized the importance of the Strength stat once again.

Yerin’s words, that the Strength stat was more important than anything else, came back to me.

I got up from the floor and looked down at my hands with a serious expression.

Small, delicate, and soft palms didn’t seem suitable for holding a sword.

    [Equip the Samurai’s sub-weapons!]

Does that mean the tutorial quest is still not over?

I checked the message that appeared before me and looked at the equipment that had appeared in the air.

One was a short dagger that looked like the katana’s blade had been cut off bluntly, and the other was a short bow and a quiver filled with several arrows.

The quest message said to equip the sub-weapons.

In other words, all of this was basic equipment given to the samurai.

I slung the dagger and short bow behind my back, and tightly fastened the short quiver to my right thigh.

    “Hmm…”

It’s quite heavy. It felt like I was standing in full military gear.

After that, a very simple quest proceeded.

Shoot the bow you received. Swing the dagger and stab the scarecrow.

The success of the attack doesn’t matter.

The quest was completed simply by being able to do those actions.

    That was it.

After basically teaching me how to use the weapons, the tutorial ended.

When I came to my senses, I was standing alone in the waiting room.

    VRS had various game modes.

Conquest, where teams fought to occupy specific areas.

Deathmatch, a 1-on-1 mode prepared simply to compete in skill.

Dogfight, where you can fight mindlessly with various people.

Battle Royale, where you are dropped in a large area and fight to survive until the end, etc.

There were several other modes prepared, but Deathmatch and Conquest were overwhelmingly popular.

Among them, my gaze turned to the Conquest match button.

I had vaguely heard that if you wanted to understand the overall flow of the game, there was nothing better than Conquest.

    I immediately started Conquest matchmaking.

    About 10 seconds passed.

Along with the message that matchmaking was successful, a countdown began before my eyes.

As expected, it was a game that was far more popular than Deron.

I calmed my pounding heart and waited for the location to change.

At that moment, my body began to move somewhere with a bright light.

The surrounding sounds, which had faded, returned, and a rough wind brushed past my ears.

I had been transported to the Conquest location.

“Oh, the last person has arrived.”

“Is she a newbie? Her level is 1.”

“Looks like it… female character samurai… small height…”

    “She customized her character beautifully.”

The moment I realized that the surrounding scenery had changed, a group of people who had been standing slightly apart approached and spoke to me.

There were four of them, and blue nicknames were floating above their heads.

It was clear that they were allies.

The first person was a knight wearing full plate armor.

He had a huge longsword hanging from his waist, and he pushed up his helmet with a clattering sound.

“Is this your first time playing the game?”

“I think she just created a new character to do some roleplaying…”

The person who grumbled at the knight’s kind words was a shady-looking assassin.

As in Deron, the assassins here were also not much different from the thief category.

I ignored the assassin user and bowed my head.

    “Hello.”

“If you have any difficulties while playing, feel free to ask.”

    “How kind of you.”

    “Newbies are precious.”

I tilted my head at the knight’s words.

I somewhat agreed that newbies were precious, but that was only for newbies who showed promise.

I’m still in a state where I can’t judge anything, but he’s being so kind.

It seems he hasn’t met a newbie who takes all the consideration and support that veterans give them for granted, using the name of newbie.

    I smiled slightly and nodded.

“Do you know the basic gameplay?”

“Kill enemies, occupy areas… the occupation speed is faster if there are allies… that’s all I know.”

“That’s enough. First, don’t act alone, and try to move with your teammates as much as possible.”

I nodded at the knight’s words.

By the way, the armor I’m wearing is heavier than I thought.

Can’t I take off the armor?

As I was thinking that, the transparent barrier that had been blocking the teammates’ movement disappeared, and the NPC mercenaries standing in front of it ran out with rough shouts.

    Woooaaaaah!

    “Let’s go too.”

I started running after my teammates.

I needed to find out how this game worked, so I wasn’t planning on acting alone as much as possible.

As I ran along the road in a large forest, a road paved with clean marble unfolded.

At the end of the road was a large castle, so it seemed that we were the invaders trying to occupy the castle.

At that moment, the assassin user who had been running with us veered off to another road.

As I watched him, the knight user opened his mouth to explain.

“He’s an assassin character. His playstyle is to act separately and assassinate key NPCs.”

I quietly nodded at the knight’s words.

I thought it was just a game where you occupy areas, but it seems there’s something else important besides that.

At that moment, the group of NPCs who had been running far ahead started fighting.

“The fight has started. I’m not good at fighting, so I can’t explain while fighting. Just try to survive. Don’t forget that the soldier NPCs aren’t weak, so be careful.”

The knight user left those words and drew his sword, then charged forward.

    “Woooaaaaah!”

Letting out a shout that didn’t match the kind appearance he had shown until now.

The knight user’s sword was swung widely, sweeping away the enemy NPC soldiers.

After dealing with the ordinary infantry, the knight grabbed his blade like a handle and swung it like a hammer, smashing the enemy soldier’s head.

Blood splattered and many corpses began to pile up around him.

I watched the scene and placed my hand on the katana hanging from my waist.

Watching them fight didn’t seem that difficult.

I made a confident expression and charged towards the enemy.

    Tatatatat!

    “Hayat!”

The quickly drawn katana grazed the neck of an enemy soldier NPC.

    Chwaak!

The flesh, unprotected by armor and made of vulnerable fabric, suffers a great wound just by being lightly cut.

I looked down at the soldier who was collapsing, scattering blood.

    “Ooh…”

    Not bad…

It’s got a good feel to it.

    It feels different from Deron.

As I was thinking that, my sensitive senses felt something approaching.

It’s fast. A charge that doesn’t even try to hide its presence.

    “Dieeeee!”

With a rough shout, a burly, hairy man suddenly jumps out.

He was menacingly swinging double axes in both hands, smashing everything that stood in his way.

Reddened skin and a large horned helmet on his head.

The character of the man was a Viking.

    “Samuraaaaaai!”

The man, who had defeated all the NPCs around him, glared at me and roared menacingly.

    He’s coming-

    That premonition was correct.

The enemy Viking man fixed his gaze on me and quickly began to charge.
