Finding It

I could vaguely understand what Jin Sian-ssi was trying to say. I started the novel with half-baked jealousy, but the character Roel had been living in my head as a delusion since middle school. I had more affection and faith in him than anyone else.

Even though Roel was trying to kill me and I suspected him of hiding shady secrets… a part of me believed that Roel was acting for everyone’s sake. I hoped that not only Luna, but also Roel, would have a happy ending like before.

I put my worries about Roel aside for a moment and thought back to what Jin Sian-ssi had said. If plausibility prevents the setting from being overcome, is there no way to eliminate plausibility? I wondered if there might be another universe where plausibility didn’t exist.

I asked about that and subtly watched Jin Sian-ssi’s reaction. Jin Sian-ssi answered with a dumbfounded look.

,As an observer who has watched countless worlds perish, let me give you some advice: we can continue the story’s flow because plausibility exists. No, think of the existence of plausibility as our most powerful weapon.”

,Plausibility…? But we couldn’t overcome the setting because of plausibility. There were several times when we were in trouble because of past plausibility that didn’t even appear in the novel.”

Without a moment’s hesitation, Jin Sian-ssi shook his head.

,Are you going to throw away the advantages of plausibility for a little inconvenience? Plausibility is a kind of ring that allows us to fight within the established rules. If plausibility didn’t exist, the cult leader would have immediately attacked the academy, kidnapped Bella, and broken the eastern border. And he would have brought the Chaos Church’s god to Bella and destroyed the world.”

Jin Sian-ssi’s words made me think about the existence of plausibility again. It wasn’t just about making the story believable, but it was a safety device that allowed the world to flow according to the novel’s plot.

Even in games, the Demon King doesn’t invade the beginner village without any plausibility. The power to prevent the cult leader and the Demon King from acting differently than planned. That’s the true nature of plausibility. Now I could understand what Jin Sian-ssi meant when he said that plausibility was our most powerful weapon.

,Until now, I thought your unique ability was simply manipulating space, but that was just a secondary area of talent created by the administrator’s intervention. Now I can understand your true, complete unique ability.”

Jin Sian-ssi’s eyes looking at me seemed to pierce my soul. As if he was sexually aroused beyond satisfaction with the truth he had discovered, Jin Sian-ssi let out a hot breath and continued with an excited smile.

,The reason you’re the worst Loss among us is because you extremely lowered other abilities and focused on one thing. It’s like deciding which job to raise and creating a character to fit it, investing extremely in one talent. If I had to give it a name, I’d call it the writer’s perspective.”

Jin Sian-ssi, who had gotten up from the sofa, emitted magic power from his whole body, distorting the surrounding space. Perhaps unaware of it because he was so excited, Jin Sian-ssi spread his arms wide and shouted.

,You can read the chaotic flow mixed with discarded settings and plausibility. If you can use plausibility in the direction you want… you’ll be the first Loss to control the laws of the world. That’s why you needed causality, Puh-kuh-kuh!!! You were the only hope to fix the wrong story, the true writer!”

I could understand Jin Sian-ssi’s words. There was a time when I rolled the dice for a long time to create a wizard character in a game. There were also games where I had to add debuff settings to get the desired traits.

I was the Loss who started with the worst ability among all the Losses. There are characters who have a hard time growing in the early stages, but shine in the later stages. Commonly known as ‘late-game carries’. If I could read plausibility and change the distorted flow in the direction I wanted… I could reach the ending I was aiming for.

The reason why God chose the worst Loss in the final game… was because he needed a writer who could correct the plot of the novel world where the ending had collapsed due to setting errors and fix the story.

I felt the pain of drowning in depression from the very bottom. So I could be the only Loss who could know that I had reached the top. I was a Loss who could succeed because I had failed.

Suddenly, a flash of lightning struck my mind. Now I knew why the Loss of Hope had demanded the revival of the discarded setting from the Saintess. If plausibility acts on the discarded setting, the flow will be distorted uncontrollably and unexpected variables will arise.

But if I, who can understand the flow of distorted plausibility… the variables created in that way can be a way to break free from the established framework and create a new story. If you find order in chaos, it will no longer be chaos!

What I had to do now naturally came to my mind. If going to another world wasn’t a coincidence, but a predetermined fate… there was still a world I had to experience.

    I said to Jin Sian-ssi.

,I need to experience a world that is in the same timeline as the world I was originally in, but that flowed according to the original story. And also a world that is several years later. If you’re the one who brought me here… can you help me?”

At my out-of-context request, Jin Sian-ssi narrowed his eyes and looked at me before smiling.

,Keu-keu-keu, have you already read the flow? You’re thinking of comparing the flow of the original world and the world you were in to see what the plausibility of the discarded setting has changed.”

,That’s right, and I’m going to find out. What God prepared for the last Loss.”

It’s natural to put everything into the final game where everything can end. There was a possibility that God intervened and used causality to create a ‘variable’ that could affect the ending like me. If I find that and make it mine, it will definitely be a big help.

,Okay, I’ve come this far, so I have to help you diligently. But experiencing two different worlds and returning here may involve great risks. There’s a possibility that an unexpected guest will intervene. Is that okay?”

    ,…It’s necessary.”

Pshik, Jin Sian-ssi smiled and put his hands together as if praying, then emitted a strange magic power. Something like spatial coordinates came to my mind. It was the image of the world I wanted to go to.

,Okay, I’ve left a trace of the world in your head. Now all you have to do is create a passage.”

At Jin Sian-ssi’s words, I immediately manipulated my magic power to create a passage. Jin Sian-ssi, who was looking at the passage with his head out, said.

,The longer you stay in another world, the greater the risk will be. As soon as you can create a passage, go to another world.”

    ,Okay.”

I moved towards the passage without hesitation.

    ■□□

What I saw when I came out of the passage was sunlight. It was probably around noon, and judging from the delicious smell, I had arrived in the back alley of the capital. The sky was fine, and the faces of the people passing by were free of worry and fear. It seemed like I had arrived properly.

According to the original story, the Loss would have died at the hands of Roel. If I went back to the academy like this, I would be attacked as a resurrected demon like last time. There might be people who recognize my face, so I took out a robe and mask from the space warehouse.

Where should I go? After thinking about it, I decided to visit Modest. I needed to see what Modest, where the discarded Estelle’s setting had disappeared, would look like. I also needed to get Modest’s help to safely enter the academy.

Instead of heading straight to Modest’s hideout as usual, I acted like a first-time customer. After a long time, I went to ‘Hober’s Beer House’ and said to the owner, who was looking at me with a sullen expression.

    ,A cold potion.”

,Hey, who’s the crazy bastard who’s looking for a potion in a bar? Get your head out of your ass and go to a potion shop.”

At the owner’s words, which were exactly the same as what I had heard before, I nodded with a smile and went out the back door to the old potion shop.

When I gave the password “Do you sell hot honey beer?” to the potion shop owner who was pretending to doze off, he silently pointed to the back door.

I went into the small room and sat at the table, remembering the day I first met Amber.

    ,The moon is rising deliciously.”

As soon as those words were spoken, the wall turned over like a memory and a woman wearing a cat mask appeared. Could it be Amber again?

,Hello. Customer-nim. Thank you for visiting our Modest.”

The voice is different. The body shape is also slightly different, so it doesn’t seem to be Amber.

,Sales and purchases. Which one are you here for?”

Sitting across from the woman who asked that, I said in a calm voice.

    ,I came to see Estelle.”

Suddenly, the surroundings became quiet. For some reason, my face felt prickly, and the eyes of the woman wearing the cat mask were unusual. It wouldn’t be strange if she took out a dagger from her bosom right now.

,Estelle… I don’t know why that name is suddenly coming up here.”

,Because she’s the guild leader of Modest. And she’s also a student at Transcendence Academy.”

As soon as I finished speaking, the wall turned over and a woman appeared. She wasn’t wearing a mask, but for some reason, her impression was vague. She was so unremarkable that you wouldn’t remember her face even if you passed her by.

When that woman appeared, I realized it when I saw the woman wearing the cat mask who was sitting across from me getting up from her seat. The small height and lovely appearance that I remembered, the sassy girl who becomes a mess when she wears a mask, doesn’t exist in this world.

An ordinary girl who could be seen anywhere sat in the opposite chair and introduced herself.

,Nice to meet you. I’m Estelle, the guild leader of the information guild Modest.”
