Chapter Index

    Woof-

A silver compass held in the hand of the researcher who has become a mummy.

The object nicknamed the Compass of Time was still in full operation.

My senses were also starting to feel strange as I spread my ability to distort time around me.

Is it a strangely twisted feeling in your legs and head that is different from the compass?

And the closer I got to the compass, the slower the dust drifted in my wake.

Even the dust floating far away finally appeared to stand still.

Proof that my time is passing very quickly.

If I were a normal person, it wouldn’t have been strange for me to feel dizzy and lose consciousness.

The speed at which blood circulated in my legs and head also changed subtly, and the signals my nerves transmitted felt so awkward that I wondered if I had ingested poison.

Perhaps this is why the experimental participants in the experimental report written in the Compass of Time document experienced confusion and memory distortion.

Unlike the participant who survived despite suffering the side effects of slowing down time, the researchers here died because they were unable to stop the compass in time while time was accelerated.

Because the Compass of Time document also said the following:

Excessive manipulation of A-415 causes the flow of time to become unstable, causing a phenomenon in which a certain range of time is abnormally distorted.

Users operating the A-415 may also be exposed to time distortion, which can lead to rapid aging in accelerated states and physical inactivity in decelerated states.

But I was used to the time around me flowing at a different speed. The load on my body was easily bearable with my enormous abilities.

‘It’s a similar scene to when I used high-speed thinking.’

There was a slight difference in the passage of time depending on the distance from the compass, but it was not enough to make me faint, just enough to distort my senses.

But as I was looking at the strange phenomenon caused by the compass of time, a thought suddenly occurred to me.

    ‘How long will I live?’

As long as you keep the compass working and don’t lose your mind, you won’t have any problems with longevity.

Because all you have to do is manipulate the compass again to stop it from working.

But I couldn’t help but have such questions as I looked at the researchers who had died and become mummies.

‘I don’t think it really means much since you can get abilities and items related to lifespan anywhere you go, but… I’m just curious about how much lifespan you can handle purely with abilities.’

At first, all abilities that were 1 were set to 60…

‘So does that mean I can live 60 times longer than a normal person?’

Of course, it’s not that simple of a calculation, but if we assume that the average human’s lifespan is 80 years, then this means that one can live for 4,800 years.

Even for someone with my level of ability, the years that passed seem like a distant memory.

Beyond turning back time to BC, it was several times longer than the longest-running country in the world.

To be honest, I’m not at an age where I can feel myself aging, and I’m only getting stronger as time goes by, so calculating my remaining lifespan accurately is impossible.

If I put my mind to it, I feel like I could live longer than that.

    Thud thud

With such a strange thought in my mind, I took the compass from the researcher’s hand and put it in my inventory.

Before fully recovering, he also did not forget to turn the ring around the outside of the compass to return the flow of time to its original state.

    Woof…

As I isolated the compass in my inventory, the movement of the dust floating in the distance began to speed up again.

It was thanks to the normalized flow of time.

The slightly twisted feeling also returned to normal.

As I came out of the isolation room, I heard Emily’s voice as if she had been waiting for me.

She also seemed to have confirmed that the isolation room I entered was containing some kind of abnormal entity, and there was a worried look in her voice.

-Are you okay? The anomalous entities stored there could be fatal to living beings if touched incorrectly…

“This is not enough. Since we’ve taken care of the compass, there won’t be any more escaped anomalies.”

-You took care of the compass of time too? Did you break it by any chance…?!

“There’s no way I would do something so ignorant.”

He calmed down a frightened Emily.

Even though it was a tool-type abnormality and not a living, moving creature-type abnormality, there was no way to know what would happen if I tried to destroy it for no reason.

If you crush it with your hand or cut it with a sword, the compass will go out of control and you will suddenly be blown away to the past or future as if you were in a time machine, which would be a big problem.

‘When I go back, I have to be careful not to drop the mirage mirror or anything.’

“Just know that I just disposed of the corpse of the Blade Lord.”

    -…all right.

Although she didn’t seem very convinced, I could tell that she was determined to just let it go.

‘Now that everything is over, I guess I should go back…’

When I returned, I knew that more questions would be waiting for me than I had ever been asked before.

In times like these, the best thing to do is to throw a bomb at them to divert their attention.

I took out my keys and asked,

“Is the quarantine team still on standby?”

-Yes…? Yes. You ended the situation, but we are still preparing just in case.

“Good. Then I think it would be best for the quarantine team to take care of cleaning up this facility. I think I’ve done everything I had to do.”

I’ve taken care of the biggest and most difficult problems, so you can take care of the smaller, more annoying ones.

Originally, high-level personnel like me used it that way.

Without even listening to Emily’s answer, I inserted the key into the door and opened it in midair.

    Crash-

    “… … .”

    “I’m back.”

Beyond the door, Scarlett, Emily, and other ECHO agents were seen waiting in the emergency room.

Except for Scarlett, whose eyes were sparkling with admiration, the rest of the group just stared at me blankly with their mouths open.

    .

    .

    .

The escape incident of Blade Lord X-134, an abnormal entity, at Site-07 was suppressed by Minho in just a few minutes.

The ECHO damage from the incident included the loss of function in eight isolation rooms, the deaths of 41 facility researchers and combatants, and 27 injuries.

Most of the dead were casualties from attempts to subdue the Blade Lord, while the injuries were inflicted by other anomalous entities that escaped the containment chamber.

Minho destroys all the abnormal entities that escaped the isolation room, including the Blade Lord, and disposes of their corpses.

All researchers who attempted to use the time compass that caused this incident died.

The investigation by the isolation team that was deployed after Minho found that they were conducting an experiment to destroy the abnormal entity using the time compass.

Because the experiment was conducted in secret, no detailed information was left behind, but considering that the Blade Lord’s body was made of metal, it is presumed that they attempted to cause the Blade Lord’s body to rust by allowing a large amount of time to pass.

The problem is that the Time Compass is not an anomaly that controls the time of a specific object, but an anomaly that controls the time of all objects within its range. And does that mean that the containment facility that was containing the Blade Lord broke down before his body rusted?

In a way, Emily’s guess that the aging of the facility was the cause is not wrong.

Thanks to this, the ECHO upper management, who received a report on the incident, strictly prohibited the use of other abnormal entities for the destruction of abnormal entities in all facilities.

There were already rules prohibiting interaction between different types of abnormalities, but now those rules were stricter.

It has also been ordered that precautions must be taken not only for biological abnormalities, but also for tool-type abnormalities that cannot move on their own.

But even with such strict regulations, there were exceptions…

The person who contributed the most to preventing the damage from this incident from getting any worse.

Humanoid abnormal entity, entity number M3773-U2.

    Minho was the exception.

Emily was conducting a video conference in a dark room, illuminated only by the light from the screen.

Everyone present at the meeting focused on Emily’s speech.

That was because what she was saying had important implications.

“With the cooperation of M3772-U2… I think it would be possible to isolate more than that.”
