[ECHO Record ID #M-3772: Mirage Mirror]

    Category: Aegis

    Isolation Procedures

M-3772 is contained in a special storage room at Site-13. The storage room contains M-3772 in a standard security glass case, and the case is monitored 24/7 via surveillance cameras and motion sensors.

Any physical contact with M-3772 must be made only for experimental purposes with Level-3 clearance or higher.

Objects copied during the experiment can be kept for research purposes for up to 48 hours, but after 72 hours, they will spontaneously revert to M-3772, so safety precautions must be taken depending on the nature of the object.

Under no circumstances is it permitted to use M-3772 to copy other abnormal entities.

    outline

M-3772 is a silver hand mirror of antique design, measuring approximately 15cm in diameter and 10cm in handle length. The mirror’s frame is decorated with elaborate floral and ancient script-like designs, which have not been deciphered to this day. The surface of M-3772 has a special gloss, providing a perfectly clear reflection in any lighting environment.

There are two main abnormal characteristics of the M-3772.

One is that it does not reflect living things. When a person or an animal is reflected in a mirror, their image does not appear in the mirror and remains blank. On the other hand, inanimate objects are reflected normally.

Another peculiarity is that it can ‘retract’ objects reflected in the mirror. When the user puts his hand into the mirror surface, the object in the mirror can be pulled out into reality. The physical properties of the object pulled out are exactly the same as the original, and the molecular structure has also been confirmed to be identical. However, the copied object spontaneously reverts to M-3772 after exactly 72 hours in reality. The object appears to evaporate without a trace before disappearing into the mirror.

    Discovery circumstances

M-3772 was discovered on █/█/20██ in an abandoned house in Istanbul, Turkey. The mirror later became the personal property of █████ ████, a collector of ancient artifacts, who reported M-3772 to the Foundation due to its uncanny ability to reflect living things. Initial investigations indicated that ████ was unaware of M-3772’s abilities, and no attempt was made to copy objects through the mirror.

Appendix 3772-1: Summary of Experimental Log

    Experiment 3772-A1: Copying ordinary objects

Purpose: To investigate the properties and replication accuracy of objects copied by M-3772.

Procedure: The experimenter holds an iron key up to M-3772, then reaches into the mirror and retrieves a copied key.

Results: The copied key is identical to the original in weight, size, strength, and composition. After 72 hours, the key spontaneously returns to M-3772.

Experiment 3772-B3: Attempt to illuminate organic matter

Purpose: To determine what effects M-3772 has when interacting with living organisms.

Procedure: Place small rodent (D-1104) in front of M-3772.

Results: No reflection of the rodent was observed on the mirror surface. The experimenter attempted to copy the rodent by placing his hand into the mirror, but nothing was detected. M-3772 does not appear to support organic copying.

Experiment 3772-C5: Experiment with copied objects

Objective: To investigate the usability and sustainability of copied objects.

Process: Exposure of copied object (iron tool) to strong impact and heat for 48 hours.

Results: The copied object showed the same strength as the original, but the tool disappeared after 72 hours. Simultaneously with the disappearance of the object, a subtle “ripple” phenomenon was detected on the surface of M-3772.

    Appendix 3772-2: Additional Incidents

On █/█/20██, Site-13 Researcher █████ accidentally copied equipment via M-3772, confusing it with the original, and causing the copied equipment to suddenly disappear upon returning to M-3772, resulting in casualties. This was followed by additional instructions requiring that all copied objects be marked to distinguish them from the original, and that testing be concluded within 48 hours.

The documents continued to be long and tedious, but Emily only looked through them to that point before handing them over to the researcher.

Because she already knew all the things that followed.

Emily, who is called a ‘walking database’ by her colleagues within ECHO, for her to forget about the anomalies she personally participated in the experiment on would be a joke on the same level as a fish forgetting how to swim.

Moreover, M-3772, the so-called mirage mirror, was used in many experiments because it had relatively safe and useful properties compared to other abnormalities.

That meant that most of the relevant information about the mirage mirror had already been discovered.

She looked through a few documents just to make the memory a little easier to recall.

The researcher also returned the document he had handed over in a nonchalant manner, perhaps not wanting Emily to read it calmly.

“You remember everything, right? I get why the higher-ups called Emily. No one knows more about M-3772 than Emily.”

“Well… From what I’ve heard, it seems like I’m not sure if I can help. Is there anything else you’d like to add?”

The researcher floated Emily, but she responded with a sarcastic tone.

“That’s probably all Emily got. It’s such an unprecedented thing… ”

“Okay. Then I’ll go to the isolation room.”

Emily spoke briefly and then turned around and headed somewhere else.

The plan was to move to the special storage room at Site-13 where the mirage mirror was being kept.

Another colleague approached the researcher who was quietly watching his back and spoke.

“What the… I finally praised you, so why is your reaction like that? Isn’t it too cold?”

“That’s just how he is. But there’s no one who works as well as he does.”

The researcher continued, shaking his head.

“And… it’s not wrong to say that I’m not sure if it will help.”

    “… … .”

The colleague also kept his mouth shut as if agreeing with those words.

Abnormal entities were basically things that were impossible to predict what they would do.

The moment you think you’ve figured out the laws that govern paranormal phenomena, unexpected events always occur for unknown reasons.

And the mortality rate of those responding to such emergencies was also quite high.

Although the Mirage Mirror is said to be a safe Aegis-grade object if managed well, it cannot be denied that it is dangerous like other abnormal objects in situations where there is no proper method of dealing with it.

How would you react if a monster suddenly appeared in the mirror?

As a high-level employee, Emily was probably more likely to be designing experiments behind the scenes than directly encountering the anomaly, but it wasn’t unusual for her to feel nervous.

“Well, I don’t think it’s necessarily because of that, since you usually have a similar attitude.”

“And what happened this time was not a monster but a person? Then it wouldn’t be that dangerous.”

“You’re going to lose it all at once if you let your guard down like that? Even though it’s rare, there are humanoid abnormalities.”

    “That’s right.”

    My colleague nodded in agreement.

“Anyway, I hope it’s not a big deal. It’s already a mess because of the simultaneous discovery of abnormal entities all over the world recently… ”

The researcher’s worried gaze followed Emily as she disappeared into the distance, out of sight.

Although she was not well-regarded by her colleagues due to her cold attitude, everyone in ECHO shared a sense of mission to work for humanity.

    .

“… What the heck? Where the hell am I?”

I opened my eyes in a room with no doors on all sides.

The first thing that caught my eye was the notice of the tower broken and distorted here and there.

“I would like to thank you for entering ██ of ██.”
