Chapter Index

Minho’s post on [Open Recruitment for Awaken Creators] received great attention following the heat of this controversy.

As expected, thanks to this controversy, not only many creators but also the general public learned new facts. The point was that there were MCNs, like Crocodile Studio, that were secretly trying to rip off their creators.

    [The world is so scary]

[Is it Pyramid Crew or was that a place like that?]

[They say it’s scarier when you know each other.]

This was a fact that was known because creators or anonymous officials who watched Jang Seok-ki’s video and the subsequent situation shared similar experiences through the community.

Of course, not everyone has written such provisions in their contracts like Crocodile Studio, but the creator pays for the distribution ratio of the channel’s profits or advertising costs, the copyright of the source used in video editing, or other things supported by the MCN. There were many cases where I made mistakes in areas that could have been overlooked if I didn’t pay close attention.

There were many YouTubers who already knew how the industry worked, but even among the largest YouTubers, a significant number of people did not yet know what the world was like. There were many cases where people became famous simply by making videos they liked.

As a result, those who had not joined a proper MCN or had not learned anything about it through fellow creators felt great alarm when they saw this controversy.

However, in the midst of all this, Awaken posted a notice officially recruiting creators.

For those who don’t know, “Awaken? I thought, “What kind of unknown company is that?””, but to people who knew the situation, it came across differently.

It has already been confirmed through her own words that Awaken helped Sarah in this controversy. Even looking at Sarah’s announcement that followed, it seemed like everything was cleaned up neatly for her.

That was the question that came to the minds of those who watched the entire process.

‘If you help someone who is not even a creator, how well will you treat the person who will be in the shadow?’

They were already seeing the answer.

It’s Minho and Maria. They were two creators belonging to Awaken.

‘If I join Awaken, won’t I be able to become like those two people?’

‘It doesn’t matter if I’m not as good as those two people. It’s a hot company right now, and just entering it will become a hot topic.’

‘If we join the same MCN, wouldn’t we be able to do joint broadcasts or large-scale content? If I do well, I think I can grow quickly… ‘

This was the thought that occurred to creators who saw the notice.

The time when people assumed that Minho signed with Awaken was after he returned from attending Comic Con in the United States. At that time, Minho showed off his use of Maria as a chat window manager for the first time.

At that time, Minho’s broadcasting had already grown, but that did not diminish expectations for Awaken.

Internet broadcasting had a low barrier to entry as anyone could participate, but it was very difficult to create an advantage that differentiated it from others. So people expected to make up for what they were lacking by joining Awaken.

Additionally, the conditions were ridiculously good compared to other MCNs. The reactions of people who confirmed it could be seen in the notice comments.

    -Do these conditions make sense?

-They just give it away ㄷㄷ

-100% corporate capital? Otherwise you can’t do this

-It’s almost like a bloody competition.

In Awaken’s recruitment post posted by Minho, several unconventional contract terms were revealed, excluding details.

A profit sharing ratio of up to 9:1, planning and promotion of content produced by creators, copyright management, latest technology support, and even a short contract period of one year.

The most talked about topic was the profit sharing ratio. 9 to 1. Of course, the percentage taken by the creator was 9. This is a ridiculous condition considering that most MCNs take a ratio of 6 or 7, and sometimes 8 for famous creators.

This was truly amazing. This does not simply mean that the advertising fees that creators receive will increase, but that they are confident that they will benefit from receiving just that much from MCN.

It is not for nothing that most companies operate at a loss. To that extent, it was difficult to see a profit solely through advertisements run by creators.

Unless you are actively engaged in the cosmetics or goods business, you need a minimum amount of funds to maintain the company, but Awaken indirectly showed that there is no problem even if the money earned from creators is small.

In the case of other MCNs, if a contract is signed and the frequency of advertisements increases or the channel does not grow, income often decreases. However, at a ratio of 9 to 1, the risk of reduced profits after signing a contract was significantly small.

The unprecedented profit ratio set by Awaken was enough to make some creators who had a vague understanding of the industry’s circumstances worry about whether they would be able to sign a contract under these conditions and receive proper support.

    ‘There’s something real out there.’

‘Honestly, the advertising revenue ratio is at least good.’

‘If only this part is guaranteed, it might be beneficial to change affiliation even if it means paying a penalty on the existing contract… ‘

What other creators were drooling over after watching Minho’s broadcasts was content planning and promotion and the latest technical support.

Previously, there were rumors that he was using a manager due to his incredible visual acuity and reflexes to manage the chat window, but it is presumed that the manager was officially announced after signing with Awaken.

Of course, it was interesting if you only looked at chat window management, but it was not an essential feature.

However, the others were all dream technologies from the perspective of those who care about the quality of content.

Creators who mainly do IRL or cam broadcasts were interested in the freedom of camera operation that Minho showed. Even those who spent tens of millions of won on outdoor broadcasts or studio settings could not even imitate the broadcasts that Minho showed in his room.

Those who did not use the cam or were broadcasting as vertubers were mesmerized by the animation that managed the chat window and Maria’s avatar.

‘It looks like a real person is moving, doesn’t it?’

    ‘It’s like watching an animation.’

‘That’s a real Virtuber? Then what on earth have I done so far… ‘

‘It’s a quality that makes other broadcasts look like scraps of paper! I must go in too!’

The most ordinary conditions here could be said to be the contract period. In other places, the contract period is usually divided into 1 to 2 year increments.

In just one day after Minho posted the notice, hundreds of applications came into his email.

    ***

‘Can I leave it to you to organize the application?’

-Emails are being sorted in real time as they arrive!

Only one day has passed, but hundreds of people have sent emails wishing to join MCN.

Of course, not all of those emails contained valuable content. There was a lot of content that was a prank or a stab, and a lot of content was sent by ordinary people, not creators.

Even if you check the attached channel link, most of the cases were that the video upload cycle, ideas, quality, and personal motivation were low.

Maria filtered all of those things out on her own.

‘It’s not like I’m making a celebrity debut. There’s no need to educate someone who doesn’t know anything from scratch and make them debut.’

The advantage of debuting an ordinary person is loyalty, and that comes naturally when you receive support from Awaken.

Rather, those who have already accumulated enough data and can clearly identify the pros and cons are better.

After filtering like that, 10 creators survived on the first day.

Through Maria’s analysis, they were people who had their own strengths and characteristics but had not yet achieved great success, and who were calculated to be able to soar with Awaken’s support.

-That’s a reasonable number. I think around 50 people will gather a week after the open recruitment ends.

    ‘Isn’t 10 people enough?’

-There is no need for us to make the MCN scale small. The more creators there are, the more beneficial it is when planning things like collaborations or holding competitions.

    ‘hmm… surely.’

-Awaken will not only support the owner and vertuber Maria, but Sarah and Jang Seok-gi have already been shortlisted for a contract. Even if we increase the number of people to manage by a few dozen people, we still have hundreds of androids. I can manage it well without having to use my computing resources.

After saying that, Maria added an afterthought.

-Of course, if the scope of Awaken’s activities expands later, the ratio will need to be adjusted.

This means that there is no problem at all right now.

If we look at it objectively, Awaken had the capacity to properly support even if it had hundreds of creators. Rather, there weren’t many creators worth it.

At that time, the screen of my smartphone, which was set to silent, flashed on. A new support email had arrived.

Maria would have sorted it out anyway, but I was also interested, so I opened the email. There was a broadcast link attached, as if it was someone streaming.

‘Maybe I could be a junior, shall we take a look?’

When I clicked on the link, I was connected to the streaming channel. Seeing that it was live, it looked like they had sent a support email to their manager or editor.

After the commercial ended, the live screen played.

The first thing that caught my eye was the image of an angry man at the 5 o’clock position on the screen. Judging by his face being completely red, it seemed like he was quite agitated by his teammate’s play during the team game.

“Oh… ! Why are you pooping alone and throwing it out of frustration?! why!!! Who forced you to take an enema?!”

    -Enema medicine lol

    – Hahahahahahahaha

-He says his hobby is enemas~

    – Shut up lol.

-The facial expression is wow~ haha

Streamers whose blood pressure rises and viewers who make fun of them. It’s something I rarely see in my room except when Eokka comes on, but many broadcasts have this structure.

‘It’s kind of fun to see you after such a long time.’

It’s been quite a while since I watched the applicants’ broadcasts from a viewer’s perspective.

    ***

    “Ugh… omg… ! Here, where is this… ?”

At a time when Minho was watching the applicants’ broadcasts and laughing, Deoksu Bang opened his eyes in a dark room where he could not see an inch in front of him.
