Chapter Index

-Minho oppa, can you help me?

    “Let’s meet and talk.”

As soon as I heard Sarah’s story, I set off for her house. When I heard his voice shaking as if he was scared of something, it was clear that something unusual had happened.

I already knew the address because she gave it to me as soon as she found her new home.

‘Sera needs help? ‘Why on earth?’

I thought to myself as I pulled the keys out of my inventory to wherever. What reason would she have to ask me for help?

The former stalker said he had a restraining order and was awaiting criminal trial. If so, it was clear that it was a different problem.

Sarah’s voice was shaking, but she didn’t seem in any hurry, so it seemed like she was surprised by something and called me.

Anyway, you just have to hear from Sarah directly to find out what’s going on.

Maria tactfully showed a satellite photo and road view near Sarah’s house. I remembered the alleyway I saw there and used the key to go anywhere.

    Slurp~

The air opened and I could see a deserted alley. I quickly pushed myself into it and pulled out the key. The door slowly closed and the view of the house in the air disappeared.

I arrived at Sarah’s house and rang the doorbell. I took a quick look and found that she was alone at home. As expected, he was not threatened by anyone else.

    Ding dong ㅡ

“Sera, I’m here. Open the door.”

-Eh… ? Minho oppa? Already?! wait a minute!

A crunching sound was heard from Sarah’s house. I guess I called to ask for help, but I didn’t expect it to arrive this early. After waiting for a while, the door opened.

    Jump up!

“panting… Are you really Minho oppa? No, I don’t think it’s been even 5 minutes since I called, so how did you come already… ?”

“What is real… So is it fake?”

I walked past her out of breath and went inside. Perhaps because it was a house where a woman lived alone, it seemed to have a faint scent. He said, burying himself on the soft sofa in the living room.

“Well, it’s not that dirty, but why did you open it so late?”

“It’s not the house that’s the problem, it’s because I’m not ready… It’s because you came too quickly!”

Sarah said, tucking her hair behind her ear. Unlike his slightly trembling voice over the phone, he seemed to be in better condition now. Isn’t it because I have a trustworthy person by my side?

“I arrived quickly because I had work to do nearby.”

“Did something happen? I disturbed you for no reason… ”

“No, that’s not it. I have a quick meeting regarding MCN. Just as we finished talking, I got a call and came running right away.”

Sarah looked suspicious, so I made up an excuse. It was convenient because if I made an excuse for MCN, Awaken could cover me on its own.

However, upon hearing my answer, Sarah’s expression suddenly darkened.

“Why are you looking like that? What’s really going on?”

“That… The reason I asked for help was related to MCN… ”

    “Please explain in detail.”

I leaned towards Sarah and urged her. After hesitating for a moment, she quickly explained her situation.

“I don’t know if you know, but my channel was stagnant for a while, but recently started growing again?”

“Oh, the number of subscribers went up a little.”

“My weight class increased because I merged with Minho oppa and various things happened. There was something a little similar to noise marketing, right?”

Perhaps what Sarah is talking about is the nuclear explanation broadcast and the stalker incident. I nodded for now.

    “So?”

“For influencers and creators like us, if we don’t paddle the moment the water comes in, we never know when we might get buried… I signed a contract with MCN because I wanted to make the most of this opportunity. I think it would be good if I only focus on the content and manage everything else.”

    “Selection and concentration.”

“Right. Originally, it took up too much time for me to do business and video editing on my own. Of course, working alone can make more money, but I think it will be difficult to grow the channel if it is not now.”

‘But is the MCN contract really necessary?’

Of course, I knew that MCN relays advertising contracts to influencers and, if necessary, provides channel managers and editors.

But that’s all I know about MCN’s work. And those were things Sarah was already good at.

From my perspective, except for advertising contracts, there seems to be very little in which MCN needs help, but Sarah seems to have different thoughts.

Maria, who was quietly listening to the story, responded to my question.

-Not everyone has the stamina of steel like you. And according to my analysis, pursuing change in this way is one of the qualities an influencer needs.

    ‘okay?’

-That idea isn’t a bad idea. You were probably planning to get an editor through MCN, right? Then, immediate income will decrease as the editor’s salary is paid out, but there is a possibility that the channel will grow as the quality of content increases and the video upload cycle speeds up. The plan was that if the channel grew and income increased, they would be able to make more money than before.

After listening to Maria’s words, I understood Sarah’s choice to some extent. I’m using Awaken as my MCN because I need a cause, but it must have been an important decision for her.

“So, I signed a contract with an MCN I found out about recently… ”

Seeing Sarah continuing her conversation with a gloomy face, I had a vague guess.

    “There’s something wrong there?”

“The contract is so unfair… ”

    Sarah mutters sullenly.

Surprisingly, according to Sarah’s words, the newly signed MCN gulp down Star Capital’s advertising expenses. Even though it was an advertisement that ran before signing a contract with them.

However, when Sarah asked if MCN had done anything about the contract, they only responded that there was no problem with the contract.

In the end, Sarah, who sensed something unusual, looked at the provisions of the contract again and found that it was full of various toxic provisions.

I couldn’t understand what these guys called MCN were doing.

‘Why on earth are you doing something like that?’

    -That’s not that rare.

    ‘really?’

-MCN is a company that inherently has limitations in its profit model. This is not the case with Awaken, but honestly, it is difficult for most companies to see a surplus just from their creators unless they create a separate corner for money to come in.

That wasn’t the end of Sarah’s explanation. According to what she found out, the contract also stated that MCN had the right to modify and delete Sarah’s content at will.

I could barely stop myself from laughing.

‘It’s almost like a slave contract? Does this make sense? It seems like they just want to eat what their creators have achieved.’

-Of course it doesn’t make sense. If it goes to trial, Sarah’s side will win. But the problem is that it takes time to come to a conclusion. If they continue to be persistent in the meantime, the channel will inevitably be adversely affected.

    ‘They are complete idiots.’

I was curious about what kind of people would do something like that, so I asked Sarah.

“Which MCN did you sign with?”

    “Crocodile Studio… ”

    ‘Crocodile?’

Maria, who completed the research in an instant, answered my question.

-This is an MCN headed by Deoksu Bang. It is a new MCN that was recently established.

‘Bang Deok-su… ‘It seems like a name I’ve heard before.’

-You were the planner for Top Beast Survival, which you appeared in, right? I wasn’t there at that time. He was a person who worked under the name Crow Coach.

    ‘ah… ! that person!’

Listening to Maria’s explanation brought back memories. I think he was originally said to be a health YouTuber, but he seems to have started an MCN in the meantime.

“It is also an MCN created by a famous person, so I trusted it and signed… ”

As she spoke, Sarah started crying, probably because she was overcome with unfair feelings. I hugged her lightly, patted her, and thought.

‘There was a part of him that felt a bit cheap.’

This was especially true in the finals, where the competition method was more advantageous for male contestants than for female contestants, and the winner was almost decided.

Perhaps, if I hadn’t appeared, Jang Seok-ki, who had reached the finals with me at the time, would have won.

‘Now that I think about it, I think I heard that they filmed some kind of reality military entertainment show and it didn’t go well.’

This was a story I heard while I was filming a travel entertainment show in Saipan. I remembered that there was a time when I was worried about where to appear in between the two programs.

Anyway, on the outside it seemed like a company that was trying a lot of different things. So Sarah must have been tricked into signing the contract.

I said, looking into Sarah’s eyes, who seemed to have calmed down.

“Seraya. You just come to our company.”
