Chapter Index

The place we headed with Rain was District 15.

This was the only place where any trace of Shine had been found, so it seemed impossible to leave.

And because I felt it was necessary to clearly state the source of the medicine.

I exit the gate and look up at the sky.

As I was watching the murky colored clouds slowly drift by, Rain, who had run out first, waved at me and shouted.

    “Jeff!”

It was quite cute to see him jumping up and down in place, waving his hands.

I smiled slightly and followed her.

    “Where are you going today?”

    “Well…”

    Nothing has been decided yet.

    I just came out randomly.

I looked around and became lost in thought.

The only trace Shine left was as a means to summon me.

That means, if she wants, she can leave no trace whatsoever.

While I was walking down the street like that, I noticed that the street was unexpectedly full of life.

It looks completely different from when I visited yesterday.

Here, a rare truck was passing by on the road, and many people were walking towards one place.

“What? No one sleeps on the street.”

As Lane said, the homeless people who had been lying on the streets had disappeared.

As I was watching the scene, I approached a man sitting in front of a store and reading a newspaper.

He didn’t take his eyes off the newspaper even though he knew I was approaching.

    “Mister.”

Only when I called did he raise his head from his newspaper.

The cigarette in his mouth glowed faintly, emitting white smoke.

    “What?”

“Where did all the homeless people lying over there go?”

When I asked, pointing to the floor with my hand out, his eyebrows quirked.

“Homeless? Oh. Did something happen? I think everyone went there.”

    Please be kind too.

I smiled slightly, took the bills out of my pocket, and handed them to him.

It was quite heavy, but I didn’t mind.

He looked at the wad of money in my hand with a puzzled expression.

    Work in District 15?

To the extent that you have to accompany homeless people?

I approached Lane, who was watching the television beyond the large display window.

She seemed completely absorbed in the children’s animation that was being aired there.

    “Rain.”

    “Ouch!”

She was blankly staring at the screen, but she turned around in surprise at my call.

“I have a place to go.”

I grabbed Rain’s hand and started following the people.

The place we arrived at after following the people was a large construction site.

It seemed like construction was already well underway, and many people were working there.

As if they were still looking for workers, people holding documents were busily walking around the corners of the construction site, and those who came to the construction site were instantly turned into workers and put into work.

I watched the scene from a distance.

    “What are you making?”

    “Well.”

Rain and I stared blankly at the construction site.

    What are you making?

As they move the huge steel frame, a clicking sound can be heard here and there.

Large trucks were constantly transporting materials.

I watched the scene and headed forward.

If I just watched, I wouldn’t know anything.

As I approached the construction site, a strong smell of sweat wafted out.

Is it because they just threw the homeless people in?

    I was reluctant to approach.

Still, I guess I’ll have to check what they’re building.

    “Excuse me.”

I went up to the woman who seemed to be in charge of this place and spoke to her.

He was dressed casually, but he didn’t look like a local, and he was carrying a document and a pen in his hands.

    “Huh?”

She turned to look at me at my call.

A woman’s gaze scans my body.

She tilted her head as she stared at his gaze, which seemed to be trying to judge her from head to toe.

“I don’t think you came here to work. How did you get here?”

“I was just wondering while walking down the street. What are you building?”

The woman remained silent at my question.

I took a small step back at that sight.

Judging by the way the atmosphere changed in an instant, he didn’t seem to be an ordinary person.

As he looked at me without saying anything, I smiled awkwardly and opened my mouth.

“Oh, did I ask something difficult to answer?”

“That’s right. That was a difficult question to answer.”

There was no sense of hostility.

But it seemed like I wouldn’t get an answer.

I had no choice but to return to where Rain was waiting.

When I returned, Rain clung to my leg and asked me a question.

    “What are you making?”

“Well, they say it’s difficult to answer.”

    “Really?”

Rain and I stared blankly at the construction site again.

It seemed that there were people with abilities coming from the upper zones, so the construction speed was very fast.

Seeing the large structures flying through the sky, it seemed like the outlines would take shape in just a few days.

I took out my cell phone and took pictures of the construction site.

    “Why are you taking pictures?”

“Ask Grandpa to do some research.”

    I thought as I answered Rain’s words.

Even though it was suspicious, it was too suspicious.

A construction project this big in a lower area, not even an upper area?

I wrote a message straight to my grandfather.

    “Shall we go now?”

    “Yeah!”

I held Rain’s hand and walked out of the construction site.

Rain and I continued to circle District 15.

It was to find traces of Shine, or to find the source of the medicine.

Could it be because there was a rumor going around that he had gone to find Snake Heart?

The people of District 15 were friendly to me and Lane.

But I couldn’t find any clues.

Rain and I returned to the gate and sighed.

Seeing as there was no contact from Grandpa or Amy, it seemed like they couldn’t find anything that could be called a clue either.

“Shall we go to another area?”

“Is that okay? You said you met Shine here?”

    “Yeah… that’s true, but.”

    I said that and sighed.

    My gut was telling me.

    Shine is somewhere else.

My sister is not in this area.

It was just a feeling, but it was hard to ignore.

I eventually got out of Area 15 with Rain.

The next place we headed was District 14.

    Where Amy is investigating.

As I exited the gate and looked up at the sky, I saw cloudy clouds not much different from those in District 15, welcoming me.

“Jeff. Are you sure you’re somewhere else?”

    Lane looked around and pouted.

I was excited about going to a new place, but my expectations were shattered.

I nodded to Rain’s words and looked around.

Smelly streets, homeless people lying on the streets.

Trash that has been carelessly thrown away.

It didn’t look much different from District 15.

I started walking down the street with the whining Rain.

If you keep walking around like this, you’ll probably get into trouble.

    I thought so.

But for some reason, as soon as people saw me, they slowly started to move away and disappeared.

    “What is it?”

    “Everyone is avoiding us.”

Us. No, to be precise, they are avoiding me.

More precisely, look at my hair.

I could tell people’s eyes were on my hair.

    White. Pure white hair.

    Is this weird?

While walking down the street with that thought in mind, Rain and I discovered the remains of a half-collapsed building.

“Wow. Looks like a bomb went off.”

I stopped in my tracks at Rain’s words and checked the smell.

There was no smell of gunpowder.

That means it’s not a bomb.

So is this a fight between capable people?

But in these lower-level areas, it was rare to find someone with the ability to destroy a building.

“Jeff! There’s a building collapsed here too!”

I raised my head at Rain’s words.

Looking at where Rain was standing, the building in front of her was also destroyed.

    Who the hell did this?

As I looked at the building with eyes full of doubt, I was able to think of one of the higher ability users who had arrived here.

    Amy.

    My mom.

    I looked around, frowning.

For some reason, people avoided her by looking at her hair, and Amy’s white hair seemed to have already become a symbol of fear in this area.

I walked up to Lane, took out my phone, and called Amy.

Before a few rings could be heard, a voice came from the other end of the phone.

    [Jeff?]

    “Yes. It’s me.”

    [what’s the matter?]

“I’m just curious what you’re doing right now.”

[What are you doing? I’m trying hard to find your sister.]

I looked around at Amy’s words.

The collapsed building didn’t end there.

As I continued walking down the road with Rain, I began to notice traces left behind by Amy.

A steel door dented in the shape of a fist, a wall with a hole in the shape of a palm, a building shattered into pieces.

    “Where are you now, Mom?”

    [Okay? Wait a minute~]

As soon as Amy finished speaking, a sound like something bursting out could be heard on the other end of the phone.

And at the same time, white smoke rose from a distance.

    There you are.

I could tell right away where Amy was.

    “Rain. Mom is over there.”

    “Really?”

As soon as Rain heard my words, he started running forward.

It seemed like he wanted to meet his friend quickly.

    I followed closely behind Rain.

It was hard to predict what kind of misfortune Rain would encounter if he wandered around a place like this alone.

A continuous thumping sound could be heard from the other end of the phone.

It seemed like you were very busy.

I ran straight along the road and arrived at the place where white smoke was rising.

I held Rain’s small body in my arms and carefully headed there.

Inside the half-collapsed building, a thud! thud! was heard.

It sounded like someone was repeatedly pounding the ground with a huge hammer.

The moment I headed inside the building, I was able to spot a woman with white hair.

A woman whose previous pink hair had completely disappeared, and who now had white hair like mine.

    It was Amy.

    “Mom.”

Amy stopped what she was doing at my call.

Amy froze in the same position as she was striking the ground with her fist.

Red liquid dripped from her fist.

    “Jeff?”

As soon as Amy saw me, she picked up a large rock nearby and threw it on top of the spot where she had been striking.

Then he took a handkerchief out of his pocket and began to wipe his hands.

After erasing all traces, he opened his arms to me with a big smile.

I smiled slightly and went into Amy’s arms and hugged her.

Although he had grown taller, he was still not as tall as Amy.

Lane moaned softly, buried between Amy and me.
