Chapter Index

    ***

One pig went equally to all the cavalrymen.

Two crews came together to peel off the skin and debone it.

When I put the large pieces of meat into large pots and started to boil them, a delicious smell came out of the fish tank.

    “Wow, it’s killer.”

As one of the members said, smiles appeared on the faces of the cavalrymen, who were exhausted from the continuous fighting.

“Ah, it would have been better if it had been baked.”

Yohan grumbled as if he was disappointed and began serving the meal by scooping up the meat stew from the pot.

“Why do you want to have a drink?”

When Anna, who was helping to serve food next to him, snapped, Yohan pouted his mouth.

    “Give me more.”

    “Now, here.”

As a member holding the bowl spoke, Yohan grinned and raised his middle finger.

    “Fuck you. That’s why I don’t have a lover.”

“Uh~ But I won’t give you any more.”

As the crew left, spitting on the ground, John laughed heartily like a general who had won a battle.

    “Are you a kid? Childishly.”

Anna scolded him, but he shrugged his shoulders as if he didn’t really care.

“You took care of the security personnel, right?”

John asked as he looked at the line of soldiers lined up.

“Uh, I prepared it in advance. Add more ingredients.”

“What are you going to do?”

    “…I set it aside.”

Anna trailed off and glanced behind the pot.

There was something cleverly hidden, wrapped in large leaves.

“Huh… What you left out is not stew, but meat?”

    John’s eyes narrowed.

“Wow, life is really unfair. Why don’t I, who is handsome, well-spoken, and cheerful, have no lover, and why do so many guys line up to be my blunt captain’s lover?”

When Anna, who was at a loss for words, kept her mouth shut and resumed eating, John lamented.

And Anna responded to that lament.

    “Kids?”

Is there anyone else besides me? When asked, Yohan widened his eyes and asked if he didn’t know.

Yohan stretched out his palm as if to take a good look, and folded his fingers one by one.

“Lily, Kelly, Ena… who else was it, Lila? And you.”

    “…….”

Anna’s face hardened as if she had heard the hidden secret of her birth.

“Hey, don’t just gather the kids and give them energy. That is an abuse of power.”

Yohan warned her to prevent any unexpected situation.

“I… stop talking and eat some food…”

Between the two people talking, Judah’s voice cut in.

    “Oh, sorry.”

“Judas, have you come to see the captain?”

While John ladleed the stew, Anna asked Judas.

“I went to the tent to look at the wound, but it seemed like he was sleeping so I just came out… Oh, just give me some more stuff.”

    “Yes, go away.”

Judas started a snowball fight as a sign of protest, but John was unmoved.

    “You’re sleeping?”

“Okay, I guess you were tired. It wasn’t an ordinary injury.”

Putting aside his regret over the extra food, Judah withdrew his gaze and looked at Anna.

“Is it right to just let him sleep all the time?”

“No. It’s right to eat. I need to eat something to gain energy.”

Anna nodded at what Judah, the medical officer, said.

Anna looked at the food distribution line. The long line was finally starting to come to an end.

She took off her apron and took the meat hidden behind the pot.

    “Hey, I’m leaving. Finish well.”

Anna left, patting John on the shoulder, and John sighed in bewilderment.

“I also do the hunting. I also serve the food… It’s really kind.”

    ***

Light was scarce in the campsite as night fell.

There was only a bonfire burning in the center of the camp and candles illuminating the inside of the tent.

    “Captain. Are you awake?”

The captain was sleeping when Anna entered the tent with a special stew made with the best parts and various spices.

Anna put the stew on the simple desk and rested her butt on the empty space on the bed.

    “…….”

I almost inadvertently touched the face of the captain who was sleeping with even breathing sounds.

“Hmm, hmm… Captain, wake up. You must eat.”

Anna cleared her throat, then carefully grabbed the captain’s shoulder and shook him slightly.

Perhaps it was too weak to wake him up, but the captain’s eyes showed no sign of opening.

Anna adjusted her posture and shook the captain with more force.

The sound of Agnes’ lute was heard from afar.

    “Captain. It’s meal time.”

Anna whispered, bringing her face to her ear.

To check if the captain was awake, I raised my face and met his eyes, which were obscured by an eerie atmosphere.

    “Gasp!”

With a single scream, Anna gasped like a goldfish.

“…I need to explain the situation.”

Anna shook her head and came to her senses at the sound of a voice that had just woken her up.

“Oh, I have to have dinner…”

    “…The sun has set.”

The captain cast his gaze at the darkness outside the tent and stood up.

Anna quickly got up from the bed, picked up the stew on the desk, and handed it to him.

    “It smells good.”

Anna touched the corner of her mouth that was twitching at the captain’s praise.

The captain slowly scooped up the stew with a spoon and put it into his mouth. As I chewed the meat, the juices exploded and sprayed in my mouth.

    “It tastes good too.”

“You ate a very poor lunch. I paid some attention.”

    “Thank you.”

It was a blunt remark, but Anna’s heart tickled.

The captain’s meal continued quietly and slowly.

Agnes continued to play the lute, and the chatter of the crew soothing the ship could be heard from afar.

    It was a peaceful atmosphere.

If it weren’t for the huge ordeal ahead of them.

“Captain. May I ask what you plan to do next?”

When the bottom of the bowl containing the large intestine was visible, Anna asked cautiously.

    “I haven’t decided yet. No, I couldn’t.”

“…Is this because of a traitor?”

The captain did not respond to Anna’s words.

“People who can move freely outside the camp are more likely to be traitors.”

She talked about what happened in the forest today and explained the conclusion she had come to.

    “I see.”

The captain had no reaction to her words.

“Captain. Catching a traitor is catching him… Now, you have to decide what to do.”

The mad emperor spoke for three days.

And a day has already passed.

“Anna. What do you plan to do? If you were the leader of this cavalry, what would you do?”

The captain asks the same question. Anna bit her lower lip.

“Chief, that question is the wrong question. It is up to the captain to decide what to do.”

    “But….”

“Please don’t say that the cavalry could be in danger due to the commander’s judgment. We have always been like that.”

Although her heart ached, Anna spoke firmly.

“Just decide as the captain feels.”

Anna, who received the empty bowl, bowed briefly.

“Sorry for being off-topic. But, it was something that had to be said.”

Anna just left the tent. The captain just stared at the back.

    ***

Anna’s steps after leaving the tent were heavy.

‘Maybe I said it too coldly?’

Shouldn’t he have been the strength next to the weakened captain?

She asked herself, but she shook her head.

“Hey, why is your face so grim? Was it a car?”

As Johan was gobbling up the stew and showing his healthy teeth, Anna threw the empty bowl at his face.

    Very hard.
