Chapter Index

    ***

    Lunch was quieter than usual.

Normally, he and Isis didn’t say much during the meal, but perhaps because the calm atmosphere from earlier carried over to the meal, he didn’t even give the usual taste test while eating the food.

-Do you like the food? Lunch was also prepared with the Master’s favorite menu.

Looking at her master’s sunken eyes, Isis decided that it was better not to talk to her.

To put it a little more humanly, I couldn’t bring myself to say anything.

Isis sat across from Kang In-ho and watched him eat.

He skillfully cut the meat with a fork and knife and put it in his mouth, moving his mouth mechanically.

Isis saw the juice that had leaked from the gap between his upper and lower lips and ran down his chin, so she picked up the napkin, but did not wipe the corner of his mouth.

Before I knew it, he had roughly wiped it with the back of his hand and continued eating in silence.

Isis thought she should wipe the back of his shiny hand, but somewhere in her thinking circuit she blocked it.

There was no clear reason. However, the conclusion has been made that it is better not to do so now.

    “It’s delicious.”

On rare occasions, he complimented the food.

Isis glanced at his face and then spoke.

    “Thank you for liking.”

“It’s meat, so it’s bound to be delicious.”

    – Last time, the last time I offered you meat, you didn’t like it, right?

    Isis swallowed her words.

“You know. Why is it so quiet today?”

he asked, still cutting meat with his knife.

Isis could not answer that question immediately. Is it right to say what I’m thinking now, or is it better to say it in a different way? I started calculating the two cases as if my thinking circuit was running wild.

    “Hmm?”

When he felt strange about the hesitation and raised his head, Isis spoke up before the calculation was even finished.

“I did it because you seemed to want to stay quiet.”

    “Does it look like that?”

    “It looks like that.”

“…Well, it’s strange if it’s not obvious. I’m not good at hiding my emotions.”

    “Is that so?”

“Yes, because of that, the company… Oh, this is just nonsense.”

When trying to say something, you put it in hastily.

    “Do you have any concerns?”

If there are any complaints, they must be resolved.

    Isis asked.

“Concerned? Do you think there are people without worries?”

Isis felt that the owner was trying to answer with questions, which was inefficient.

If there’s something you want, shouldn’t you just say it right away? Why bother saying it like that?

Isis did not understand her master.

“There is a counselor module. If you want, you can solve the master’s problem with that module.”

“No, I don’t need that kind of technicality. Just… Huh…”

    “Master?”

Kang In-ho swallowed the words that even brought out his front teeth.

“Isis. Can you do as I command?”

“We will carry out the Master’s orders, as long as they are not self-destructive or contrary to sacred rules.”

    “Really? Then…”

Kang In-ho put the remaining meat in his mouth. He crossed his knife and fork on the empty plate to make an X.

“From now on, I want you to delete the stories I tell you and the stories I share with you from your memory. I will make the sign by making the knife and fork parallel.”

“Having the knife and fork parallel was understood as a command to delete the conversation from memory. Is that correct?”

“Uh, complete deletion. Is it possible?”

“Of course. Then, we will set the conversation to be deleted from now on. 3… 2… 1….”

    Isis’ eyes blinked.

Kang In-ho was surprised by Isis’s mechanical response, but heaved a sigh of relief.

He drank water from a glass. Gargle as if brushing your teeth and rinse your mouth.

Then he picks up a napkin and wipes his mouth carefully.

However, the shiny oil on the back of my hand still could not be wiped off.

Isis took a wet tissue and wiped his hands. Kang In-ho seemed surprised by Isis’ actions and opened his eyes round.

    – after…

Exhale and inhale for a long time.

The purified cradle air filled his lungs.

“What would you think if there was someone who succeeded in dimensional travel?”

I tell the owner of this city what I said to a magical girl somewhere.

    ***

It took quite a long time to explain how he died and where he went to get here.

In between speaking, he was lost in thought, tormented by revived emotions, and even laughed.

For that long time, Isis listened without uttering a single word.

    “I will organize it.”

After explaining the long journey, Isis spoke only after he had picked up a glass to quench his thirst.

“The Master is proof that the soul is real.”

    “That’s right.”

“The concept of dimension appeared, and humanity only studied dimensional movement accompanied by the body.”

    “Of course.”

“However, all of those experiments failed. All organisms that passed through the small-scale dimensional passage were destroyed beyond recognition.”

Isis recited several research examples on dimensional movement.

Seeing him conveying extensive knowledge, unlike NB, Kang In-ho felt NB’s absence once more.

But he didn’t show it. Because I thought it was foolish to hold Isis responsible for NB’s disappearance.

“Just as it takes a lot of training to go into space, humanity thought that dimensional travel was possible with enough training.”

“But the existence of the Master creates the possibility of a new hypothesis.”

    “What is that?”

“Only souls can move between dimensions. ”

“Hmm… But it’s easy to affirm that it’s a soul. I thought they would deny it because it was unscientific. [There is no such thing as a soul. It’s just the action of the brain’s electrical signals.]”

Kang In-ho imitated Isis’s speaking style with a fake mechanical voice.

Isis’s eyebrow twitched at his poor vocal imitation.

“AI’s biggest advantage lies in its endless development. I was not designed to be immature enough to have such narrow-minded thinking.”

Isis placed her clenched fists on the table.

    “Okay. Okay.”

Kang In-ho, tired of the enthusiastic response, waved his hand.

“Back to the point, it is highly likely that God and the soul exist.”

“Is there any basis for that judgment?”

“If you trace back the origins of humanity and the universe, you will inevitably reach a state where nothing happens. It is called emptiness, nothingness, and the beginning. Then, if you think about what created the opportunity for life to emerge from that first state, you will eventually acknowledge the existence of God.”

“There is some basis. I believed that there was a God after seeing it with my own eyes.”

Kang In-ho flapped his white wings and recalled a cocky face steeped in the ideology of the chosen people.

“If you affirm the existence of God, it is also easy to affirm the concept of the soul. The problem is that there is no device to observe this, so it is likely to exist only as a hypothesis forever.”

“It’s just a hypothesis, but it’s probably quite credible.”

    “Yes.”

Isis adjusted her posture, moving her fists from the table to her knees.

    “That’s why I’m concerned.”

    “What?”

“In each world, the body rests, but the soul runs without rest. It is impossible to predict what effect this will have on the Master.”

“Nothing except that there are times when I feel a little depressed.”

“Don’t you think that was a sign?”

“…Even if that were the case, what would you do? There’s no way to solve it. When I die, I will go to another dimension.”

“There are ways to relieve symptoms. It increases the death cycle.”

    “Die as late as possible?”

    Kang In-ho raised one eyebrow.

    “Yes.”

Isis said the obvious with a natural expression.

    “Easier said than done.”

“It is possible. I will make it possible.”

“If you stay by my side and take care of me 24 hours a day, I will live to be over 100 years old in this world. …Anyway, thanks for listening. It feels better when I say what’s on my mind.”

Kang In-ho picked up the fork and knife on the plate.

    Isis looked at his hands.

“Oh, I’m just saying this just in case. How about researching dimensional travel and sending me back to my original world?”

“I decline. No matter how much research you do, the risk does not disappear. I have a duty to keep Master safe. We will not create a situation where the Master is in danger.”

“I tried it just in case, but it still happened.”

“Yes. Therefore, if you try to escape the cradle on your own or try to move between dimensions, I will do my best to stop you, so please keep this in mind when planning.”

“Is that reference, is it a threat? okay. Let’s end the story here.”

When Kang In-ho placed the fork and knife parallel, Isis’ eyes blinked a couple of times.

    A moment of silence.

Kang In-ho looked at Isis and waited for her next words.

    “How was the conversation?”

Isis, whose memories had been erased, asked him.

“Yes. It was good. I must have enjoyed the rice too. I need to walk a bit.”

Kang In-ho breathed a sigh of relief.

    “Okay.”

Isis followed behind Kang In-ho, who stood up and moved.

Isis saw the back of her master walking away with great strides.

Then he reached into his pocket and pulled out a long cord. It was similar in shape to earphones, but it was plugged in somewhere.

It was a separate external memory.

When he plugged it into the socket in his ear, some data was copied into Isis’s memory.

    Isis’ eyes blinked yellow.

Eventually, Isis, who had downloaded all of the hours-long conversation, quickened her pace.

Two and a half steps. The distance between Isis and her master.

    – Die as late as possible? Easier said than done.

    – it’s possible. I will make it possible.

    Gods, spirits, dimension shifting.

There is something more important to Isis than researching new facts.

“So that the Master’s soul is not harmed. Forever here.”

Isis only cared for her Master.

    It was true.

    – Pipbit

An electric signal came on, and the production line, where the lights had been turned off, began to come back to life.

With a clanking sound, the drones began to move busily, and the pistons began to move up and down, emitting steam.

This is because a production order has been issued to the Android production factory.
