Chapter Index

‘Did I hear wrong just now?’

What Kang Da-kyung said was such a statement that one could not help but doubt one’s ears.

To extract the source of supernatural power from a person with supernatural powers and put it into an object.

I couldn’t imagine how that process would take place, and at the same time, as a person with psychic powers, it sounded very scary.

‘I don’t even remember seeing this in the original. Maria, did I forget?’

    -no. The master is right.

‘Then how on earth did Kang Da-kyung come up with such an idea?’

-I can’t know the exact reason either. But one thing is certain: the reason Kang Da-kyung came up with such thoughts was because she was influenced in some way by her master.

Maria was right. As I already experienced in Aka the Fall, these twisted developments were always caused by me.

Aside from the fact that I realized that I was the cause, I don’t know what kind of influence it was on my actions that led to this.

I deliberately asked Kang Da-kyung for an explanation without telling her that she was misunderstanding.

Since I had first told her that there was an object that had the ability to manipulate water, it was natural that she would misunderstand.

“… Please tell me in more detail.”

“Well, that’s right. Even if you are ahead of us now, we have also had our own achievements.”

The happy expression she made earlier seemed to be sincere, and Kang Da-kyung willingly began to explain.

There’s no way that the villain boss would really open up with just a few words, and he’s probably taking his time because he’s confident that he can deal with me if the story doesn’t go as he wants.

“From the beginning, we did not begin research to incorporate superpowers into Starlight. Originally it was the opposite. Since it is believed that the cause of the creation of superpowers was a meteorite that fell to Earth, the original goal was to monopolize the meteorite and extract superpowers as we intended.”

“Did you plan on creating an army?”

“Well, you could see it that way. If enough superpowers gather, it will become stronger than the army. Anyway, in order to do that, it was important to first secure a meteorite… That’s where you appeared.”

    “Ah.”

Now that I think about it, something came to mind.

The hypnotist I met in the factory area and Starlight who subdued and stole her. This wasn’t the first time I’d robbed their organization.

Even when I was in Korea, I took away the Starlight that they had stolen from the government.

Unlike this case, where the situation escalated significantly by touching the Self-Defense Forces, police, and heroes all at once, in Korea, only the vehicle transporting Starlight was quietly hijacked and it did not appear in the news.

I forgot about it because it had less impact than Japan, which caused direct damage to the city.

‘Then is it because of me that they went to Japan?’

As if I was right, I was a little annoyed by the look in Da-kyung Kang’s eyes as she recalled the past.

“Even the specially selected executives of the organization were unable to use their power against you. For some reason, I had no choice but to keep colliding with you, who was aiming for the meteorite. In the end, we chose to move to nearby Japan and work there. Considering that I followed you this far, it doesn’t seem to have been of much use.”

“… Shouldn’t you have lived quietly? Then I wouldn’t have even known you were gone.”

“If a villain organization that comes from another country stays in a mediocre position, it will be attacked by both the country and other villains. Rather, we just chose to strike first.”

“You also attacked the Self-Defense Forces in the middle of the city?”

“On the contrary, local villains actively insisted on that. It seems there was a lot of dissatisfaction with the government. If you were going to use them, you needed to let them do whatever you wanted to some degree. I happened to have moderate supernatural powers, so I wasn’t afraid of being chased by the police.”

“Do you mean that space movement superpower?”

“Yes. You’ve used it while raiding our hideout, so you know how convenient it is.”

“Could it be that the ‘key’ was also created through research to extract that superpower?”

But Kang Da-kyung shook her head.

“No, that can’t be true. That’s a feature we’ve been using since we were in Korea. This was possible from the beginning. And it is not a form of using space movement superpowers for others, but rather a form of giving permission to rent a space where superpowers have already been applied.”

That’s what I saw, but it seemed to roughly say that there was a difference in the operating principle.

“If Starlight is a necessary condition in the first place, it is impossible to provide it to all villains in the organization.”

    “That’s definitely true.”

“But I won’t deny that I was somewhat inspired by it. If it is possible to give authority to others, then something more is possible. Afterwards, through independent research, we discovered that Starlight is highly receptive to supernatural powers, and sometimes even amplifies them. You probably already knew that and were collecting starlight.”

‘I can see roughly how the story went.’

This incident occurred due to the complex intertwining of many factors.

Kang Da-kyung originally tried to create an army by artificially creating superpowers by collecting meteorites. I interfered with her and kicked her out to Japan.

Da-kyung Kang must have come to Japan and started collecting Starlight for a different purpose than her original goal. Because I looked at Starlight’s properties and came up with another possibility.

Rather than awakening superpowers, on the contrary, taking away superpowers and controlling them.

Since it is impossible for a criminal organization to have a proper research institute, it was clear that a hypnotist had probably brainwashed them and forced them to conduct research.

Perhaps biological experiments were also conducted on people with superpowers who rebelled against the organization? Basically, anything related to superpowers was impossible to test on animals.

I never expected that collecting Starlight to make some equipment would lead to this connection.

    Kang Da-kyung’s words continued.

“You already used abilities beyond handling fire when we were in Korea. I know that when the hostage situation took place at the bank, he moved unharmed despite the explosion of a grenade and gunfire. The same goes for abnormal muscle strength.”

    “Hmm… ”

“At that time, I thought you had an invisible helper or that your superpower was something more than controlling fire. For example, borrowing the abilities of some mythical being.”

It was normal to think that way because it was impossible for one person to have more than two superpowers.

Kang Da-kyung looked at me slowly, her eyes shining.

“But now that I think about it, that might not be true. Is that the effect of the suit? I don’t know what kind of superpower it contains to make something like that possible. Who on earth produced it?”

“Is there a sense of loyalty between us to let that be known?”

“Well, I guess it is now. Anyway, now that I think about it, everything was pointing to one thing. You have already created a product that is of a level of perfection that can be used in real life.”

With those words, Kang Da-kyung, who seemed lost in thought for a moment, opened her mouth.

“Ignis, how about cooperating with us?”

    “Cooperation?”

“I don’t know where or how the item was made. But there must have been limits to working without revealing it to the world. We will help you with that. If you wish, you can use psychics in Japan as test subjects.”

As she casually made eerie noises, she seemed to genuinely view Japan’s psychics as ‘resources’.

“Is there any reason why I should hold hands with you? After listening to the story, it sounds like they are unilaterally trying to take information from me.”

“No. We also achieved our own achievements.”

After saying that, Kang Da-kyung took something out of her arms. It was a small key with a subtle silver color.

I knew it instinctively when I saw it.

That thing is made entirely of Starlight.

    “That’s… ”

“It’s an item that contains some of the power of our space-moving psychic. We call these things artifacts.”

Kang Da-kyung held a key that gave off unusual energy and inserted it into the air. When she twisted the key, a space opened in the middle of nowhere with a sound like a lock being unlocked.

    Crash.

“This is an artifact that allows you to open a small space the size of a jewelry box. It may not seem like a big deal, but it is quite useful.”

    “So what does that mean?”

Although it is interesting, it is a function so poor that it cannot be compared to the inventory. If I had that key, I would have melted it down and used it for other equipment.

“If we decide to cooperate, we will also share our research results. It is not a one-sided exchange. And I promise to first make the superpower you want into an artifact.”

The reason Kang Da-kyung took out the key was not simply to show off the artifact.

It was to prove that her organization also had its own capabilities and to negotiate.

“I’m sure you sacrificed quite a few psychics to create the suit and the water-manipulating artifact. I don’t know if it was in the early days of awakening when society was so confused, but now our organization’s help is desperately needed to secure people with psychic abilities.”

    Seueueuu

Kang Da-kyung stretched out her hand toward me.

“Stop playing hero and join hands with me. If we cooperate, it is possible to control superpowers not only in Korea but also around the world.”

It was a very ambitious goal considering that it was a huge mistake.
