Chapter Index

A busy day at the Adventurer’s Guild.

Of course, there are many places in human society that are not busy, but the adventurer’s guild is completely noisy.

This is because people who come to ask for something, and people who want to grant such requests and receive wages, come and go constantly, regardless of time.

This did not end simply on an interpersonal scale. Sometimes a specific company or group entrusts a request, and sometimes adventurers work together as a team to solve such a request.

In short, it was as if the ‘Adventurer’s Guild’ was taking on the role of other companies, which many companies call ‘business partners’ in modern society.

Of course, the adventurer guilds that exist in each place are of different sizes, so guilds located in small towns often have idle work, but at least this was not the case for the adventurer guild located here, in the large city of Harpen.

“Ugh… There’s no sign of the shift ending…!”

Harpen’s adventurer’s guild operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and Deran, the receptionist there, was dying in real time with over an hour left on his shift.

“Hello Deran! Can you do this request now!?”

“Hello Eric. I’ll check it out in a moment. Oh, you can do this right away. Would you like me to accept it?”

“Thank you! Please do it now!”

As if he had never complained, Derian immediately showed professionalism and took care of the work as soon as the person arrived, but it was by no means an easy task.

As Derian was cursing under his breath as it seemed to be more crowded today, the sound of a bell hanging on the front door of the building ringing was heard through the commotion.

It was the sound of an ordinary bell ringing, which can be found anywhere, but the once bustling interior of the adventurer’s guild became quiet for a moment and caught everyone’s attention.

Two people opened the door and came in. They were two men and women who looked surprisingly similar.

A man and woman with platinum-blond hair that shined so beautifully that they could not be thought of as human looked around the inside of the guild with red eyes that seemed as if they were immersing themselves, and then walked straight to Derian in front of them.

    “Hello.”

    “Yes? yes Oh, hello!”

This is the greeting I’m tired of hearing when I stand at the reception desk of the Adventurer’s Guild. But Deran felt special even in the cliche greeting.

‘Come on, let’s come to our senses. I am the receptionist of the Adventurer’s Guild. I am the face of the guild…!’

Since my rookie days, I have been reflecting on my own mindset to solidify my professionalism, but nothing has really changed.

That’s how special the two people in front of Der An were. It felt like it wasn’t a person.

In reality, Asha and Adele were dragons, so his senses were not wrong. And everyone in the guild felt the same way Derian felt, even if the degree was different.

Dozens or hundreds of people come and go every day. They are all adventurers at the crossroads of life and death. Just as living things adapt to their environment, they implicitly have a measure to understand the skills of others.

The floor where adventurers lived was the place where adventurers lived because those who did not measure the scale properly had already died long ago.

“Is it okay if I ask you something?”

“Ah.. Ugh, yes, yes! Ask anything!”

Derian, who had lost his mind for a moment, quickly returns. He was more nervous than anyone else because he was facing Asha and Adele closer than anyone else in the guild.

Unlike the others who had already lost their concentration and started to become noisy again, the proof of this was that they were still unable to make even a sound.

    “What are you doing here?”

    “Yes… eh…?”

A completely unexpected question asked in an already hectic situation. Even though Derian had quite a bit of experience as a receptionist, it was the first time he had heard this question.

Even if you were a guild receptionist whose main job was answering questions, anyone who came to the adventurer guild without even knowing about it, even a three-year-old child, had no choice but to experience it for the first time.

“Woman, this is the Adventurer’s Guild! This is a place where adventurers who want to entrust requests to adventurers or receive rewards by accepting requests come to visit.”

    “Aha. I see.”

“I am Deran, the guild receptionist. We are in charge of writing request forms and registering people who want to become adventurers.”

Even as Deran spoke, he unconsciously avoided Asha’s gaze. As a receptionist, maintaining eye contact was a basic skill, but it was difficult to keep looking at Asha’s eyes.

This was partly due to Asha’s rather sharp impression. It certainly looks sharp enough to cut you if you touch it, but the words coming out of its mouth are polite yet extremely intimate, which adds to the confusion from the perspective of dealing with it.

On the other hand, Adele, who had not said anything from the beginning, let out a cynical and stiff first word, completely different from her cute and warm impression.

“What is it? I came here because there were a lot of people, but it wasn’t a particularly interesting place.”

“Don’t do that, just stay still. Are there any good things about being an adventurer?”

    “Yes, yes… that is….”

This time too, a question I don’t normally ask. Derian once again had to choose his words carefully. I felt that the two men and women who gave off an inhuman atmosphere really had inhuman common sense.

Unlike the first question, Derian had no idea what to say. That’s because being an adventurer isn’t a very good job by ordinary people’s standards.

Profit, treatment, or perception among people are not important in any way. The most important thing is that adventurers are consistently ranked first among the occupations with the highest mortality rate.

Adventurers die more than mine workers. There is even a joke that they are the second most common death after death row inmates. Choosing a ‘good job’ for such a job required some thought.

“Hmm… I guess it’s an allowance after all. It usually depends on the job you are doing… but the more risky the job, the greater the reward.”

“…I think it’s a euphemism for life allowance.”

Derian is shocked by Adele’s words. It hit the nail on the head. Deran quickly mentioned one more advantage that came to mind.

“That, and identity guarantee. Belonging to an adventurer’s guild guarantees free entry and exit unless the country is at war. The guild guarantees your identity.”

Derian wanted to praise himself even after he said it. Isn’t this a really obvious advantage? I had no doubt that the two people in front of me would react well.

    “Hmm… I see.”

‘Eh? It’s a more sour reaction than before!?’

It was the equivalent of giving a strong passport, but Asha and Adele’s reactions were boring. That was because they already had a strong means of proving their identity.

“I don’t think there’s any need to become an adventurer.”

“No. I think I’m fine. Can I become an adventurer now?”

Derian quickly responded to Asha’s words.

“Yes! The guild always welcomes applications from adventurers. Can you tell me your name and hometown?”

“My name is Asha. This is Adele. Both are from Eletrove.”

“Wow! You came from far away. You are already a worthy adventurer.”

    “Haha, thank you.”

Asha and Adele were then able to take ID photos and obtain guild cards with their faces, names, and hometowns engraved on them.

“If you are inactive for a long time, your qualifications may be suspended, so you must complete the quest occasionally.”

    “Yes. Thank you.”

After coming out of the building, Adele asked Asha.

“Do you really need to get something like this?”

“Yes, then. You can’t make that noise every time you go somewhere else.”

    “What’s the fuss?”

“What do you mean… I didn’t have any way to prove my identity when I came in here, so I showed what my father gave me and then the whole mess happened.”

Before entering the big city of Harpen, Asha and Adele were, of course, inspected.

In the meantime, the badge Eugene had handed out caused a commotion.

Contrary to Eugene’s conviction that it would not have the same impact as the Ring of Venus, Eugene’s insignia has already established itself as a great item that cannot be taken lightly in the human world.

“Why? I’m glad that I can feel how great my dad is…”

“There is no benefit in attracting people’s attention every time. As my father said, let’s only show this badge at really important moments and use the Adventurer’s Guild card most of the time.”

    “Why?”

“It’s better that way to naturally blend in with humans.”

    “Cheet, okay.”

Asha’s decision had an important effect. No matter how disconnected Akashara was from the world, it did not mean that she did not collect information at all.

If Asha and Adele had shown Eugene’s badge every time they moved somewhere, the word would definitely have spread and it could have reached Akasha’s ears.

Since Eugene had already become a person of interest from Akasha’s perspective along with Wayne due to the conflict that occurred in the dwarf village, there was a clear possibility that he would do something to harm Asha and Adele.

Asha had successfully avoided it without even realizing it.

In addition, it was a stepping stone for them to make their own reputation, rather than just relying on Eugene’s status.
