Chapter Index

The night after finishing the mission.

After finishing her shower, Amy dried Shine and I’s hair and headed to Jin’s office, perhaps because of a mission.

After confirming that Amy was gone, Shine locked the door and came to me.

Knock knock – As the small footsteps got closer, my heartbeat quickened.

After finishing my shower, I sat on the bed and waited for Shine, and something in the atmosphere felt strange.

    “Jeff.”

    “Yeah.”

    dump-

The bed rocked slightly as Shine sat down next to him.

I nodded as I smelled Shine’s scent as she came closer.

“I think the mission will be over soon so I can interview the baby.”

    “Oh, really?”

Contrary to what I had expected, I was taken aback by Shine’s words and called out to little Amy.

PHAJIJIK- Little Amy popped out from the sphere that formed on her palm.

The last time she disappeared, she was still wearing the clothes she was wearing, but when she saw Shine, she was surprised and changed her clothes.

    Phagejik-

Surrounded by blue light, little Amy, back in her witch costume, hid behind my finger and watched Shine’s expression.

“You were wearing weird clothes again?”

Little Amy shook her head at Shine’s words and pulled her large witch’s hat down tightly.

“I think we need a brief interview.”

With a familiar movement, Shine snatched little Amy from my hands.

Little Amy reached out to me, screaming silently, but there was nothing I could do.

He just smiled faintly and waved his hand.

    “Just wait a minute.”

Shine spoke to me and went into the toy house with little Amy.

I was curious about what it would say inside, but I didn’t think about looking inside, as Shine had told me never to open it.

Left alone, I lay face down on the bed and took out my cell phone.

The search term is city blackout.

However, among the posts that contained that search term, not a single one that was uploaded today was visible.

There aren’t even any internet articles about it.

With a strange feeling, I expanded the real-time search terms to check the top 100, and the moment the keywords “urban blackout” and “blackout” appeared in the rankings, they immediately disappeared.

Questioning this situation, I decided to post on a community where people can post anonymously.

[Anyone in a city with a power outage right now?]

I wrote a simple post and waited for comments, but no matter how long I waited, no comments came.

Feeling puzzled by this, I searched for the article I had written, but it had been deleted.

    “Gasp…”

This strange phenomenon sent goosebumps up my skin.

As I was shaking with my phone in my hand, I got a call from an unexpected person.

    [Grandpa Perman.]

You’re always so busy, what are you doing at this hour?

I got a call right away.

    “Hello!”

[Oh, Jeff. Yeah. How are you?]

    “Yes!”

My doubts soon disappeared into the distance at the sound of my grandfather’s familiar and welcoming voice.

I straightened my body, sat on the edge of the bed, and swung my legs, and my grandfather immediately began to tell me why he had called.

[Jeff. Did you just write something on the internet?]

    “Oh, how did you know?”

    [Hmm…]

Grandpa Ferman didn’t answer my question.

There is a brief silence, as if he is lost in deep thought.

    [Jeff, are you listening?]

    “No!”

[Listen carefully. When you return from a mission, please do not search for anything related to the mission or post anything related to the mission on the Internet.]

    “Oh, why?”

[You and Shine could be in danger, so I think Grandpa would be very sad if you were in danger. Is Jeff happy for Grandpa to be sad?]

    “Oh, no!”

I shook my head hurriedly and answered, even though my grandfather wasn’t right in front of me.

My grandfather heard my answer over the phone and said with a satisfied smile.

[Okay, you know that. Can you keep your grandfather’s promise?]

    “Yes!”

    [It was a promise.]

    “Yes!”

[Okay. It’s late, so go to sleep now.]

    “Good night, Grandpa!”

After the call ended, I put the phone down and let out a big sigh.

How did my grandfather know to call me?

Something was happening behind the scenes in this world that I didn’t know about.

I was sitting on my bed, blankly staring down at my phone, when something flew in and hid between my hair.

A familiar feeling, it was my baby.

    “Oh. Baby.”

Little Amy must have been sad about being scolded by Shine because she dug wildly into my hair.

While she was messing with my hair, Shine walked out of the toy house.

She spoke to me with a slightly tired face.

    “Is the baby there?”

“Yeah. I’m hiding now. What did you say inside?”

Fragmentary emotions flow from little Amy.

I’m scared. Mom. I’m sorry. I was wrong.

“Didn’t you scold me too much?”

When I spoke to Shine, reading little Amy’s emotions, she shook her head.

“That’s not it. If I had said it calmly, you wouldn’t have heard my voice outside. If I had scolded you loudly, my voice would have leaked out of the toy house.”

    “That’s true, but…”

I looked down at her, holding little Amy in my hand as she dug through my hair.

She came down to my palm, glanced at Shine’s expression, and gave me a small smile.

    “Um…”

“It’ll be okay. I bet you’ve become a good, obedient baby now?”

As she said that, Shine came to me and put her arm around my shoulders.

I naturally leaned next to her.

As Shine and I looked down at little Amy, she hid behind my fingers, her big hat pulled down shyly.

    “Over there. Shine.”

    “Huh?”

“Victor said so. Me and Brain. So the baby’s connection is weak.”

    “Yeah.”

“Isn’t there a way to make that connection stronger?”

Victor said that if you keep the brainwashing agent around all day, the connection will become stronger, but now, on the second day of training, he didn’t feel anything special.

    “Aren’t you being too impatient?”

“But I want to get stronger faster.”

    “Because of Amy?”

“Well, if you just become really strong, you can protect anyone…”

Shine shook her head with a strange smile at my words.

“Unfortunately, there’s nothing more I can do. I think it’s right to do as Victor says here.”

    “Really…?”

“Yeah, if you keep doing this, the connection will get stronger.”

I nodded to Shine’s words and patted little Amy’s head.

At first, she refused my touch, but after her interview with Shine, she became a good girl and did not refuse my touch.

    I like this.

“My baby. What shall we play today?”

Little Amy raised both her hands in response to my question and imitated a dinosaur.

    Kwaang-!

Although the voice was not audible, it seemed as if the sound was coming from the expression on his face and his slightly open mouth.

“Dinosaur? You want to ride a dinosaur?”

If the baby wants to ride, you have to let him ride.

I headed to my toy drawer and took out a bunch of dinosaur models big enough for little Amy to ride and play with.

Little Amy climbed onto the largest of them all, the Tyrannosaurus, and banged her palms on it.

Then, the sparks flowing out of her body transformed the Tyrannosaurus into Lightning Tyrannosaurus.

Little Amy, riding Lightning Tyranno, gestured to me as if asking me to move the dinosaur.

I grabbed Lightning Tyranno’s tail and started moving it around as she wished.

This Lightning Tyranno was very powerful.

It spewed sparking brass from its mouth, knocking down all the surrounding dinosaurs.

After a while, while I was playing with dinosaurs, I created a dinosaur shape using electricity instead of a model dinosaur.

Little Amy took a quick look at the Tyrannosaurus model she was riding, then turned her head and jumped onto the lightning dinosaur I had created.

The lightning dinosaur moved as if it were alive, following little Amy’s will, even without my intervention.

I looked at the sight and smiled slightly.

Is this what a mother feels?

Seeing the happy baby warmed my heart.

Little Amy’s electric dinosaur ride continued until Amy returned.

    ***

“Are you really going to go to school in that condition?”

    “Yes!”

    I nodded to Amy’s question.

Little Amy, who was sitting on top of the head, also nodded vigorously.

Amy looked down at us with a worried expression.

“Are you really sure you won’t get caught?”

    “Yes.”

    “Hmm… I still feel uneasy.”

Amy keeps fiddling with my hair with an anxious expression.

I spoke to her confidently and confidently.

    “You don’t trust me?”

    “That’s not it, but…”

We have entered the third day of training.

Today is a school day, but I can’t stop training.

So I chose to go to school with little Amy.

“Baby. Today is the day Mommy is studying at school. You can’t come out of your hair. Got it?”

Luckily, our little Amy, who had become a good child, nodded to my answer and quietly settled into her hair.

Unless you were violently shaking your head, there was no way this little Amy would get thrown out.

“Don’t worry, Amy. I’m here for you.”

Shine said to Amy, who was still anxious.

At her words, Amy nodded with a small sigh.

“Yeah, can Shine take good care of her younger sibling?”

    “Yeah.”

“Can you take good care of the baby?”

“Yeah. Because it’s my baby and Jeff’s baby.”

“You wouldn’t say that in front of other people, right?”

    “Yeah.”

    “Okay.”

Amy, who had been talking to Shine, nodded and returned the dinosaur bag to me and Shine.

Shine and I ran forward with our dinosaur bags on our backs.

Rain was waiting for us in front of the warp, so there was no delay.

    “Have a nice trip!”

    “Yes!”

We headed back to school, leaving Amy’s voice behind us.

As always, we greeted Shandroy, who welcomed us, and headed to the classroom.

As I walked down the hallway, I could sense that the school atmosphere was somehow excited.

When I turned my gaze to Shine, she nodded while looking at me as well.

    “The kids seem strangely excited.”

There was a smile on the students’ lips that they couldn’t hide.

As I tilted my head at the situation, Rain, who had experience as an elementary school student, nodded as if he realized something.

“I think it’s because there’s a summer festival coming up soon?”

    “Summer festival?”

“Yeah, I do this every year around this time.”

“Did you do that when Rain was going?”

    “Uh… Yeah…”

    It’s a summer festival…

Little Amy also seemed to be expecting something as she patted my head.
