Chapter Index

    ***

The woman continued to place her hand on my forehead and tilt her head.

I couldn’t overcome my shyness and put my head back.

The other person must have come to their senses from my uncooperative reaction, so they raised both hands.

    “Oh, sorry…”

She put her hand on the makeshift chair and spread the distance between them.

The distance is about 30cm, but I think the psychological gap is probably even greater.

She removed her hand from her forehead and took out the textbook from her bag again.

Thick books went up to the desk.

Suddenly, a book with a blue cover slides towards me.

Perhaps this is a textbook I will use.

The cover of the book said ‘Mathematics (above)’.

“Do you study with this book?”

When I asked, she muttered as if complaining.

“You’re the one who always says I lost my textbook. That’s why I carry it with me.”

It was a voice filled with some irritation and anger.

At that sensitive reaction, I pursed my lips and grabbed the book.

    It’s a textbook… I wonder how long it’s been since I last read it.

After getting a job, I built up a wall between studying…

The table of contents is visible.

    Polynomials, equations and inequalities… shapes.

Concepts that seem familiar and unfamiliar come into view.

Uh… was the original curriculum like this?

    “Okay, then let’s start class.”

While I was flipping through the textbook and looking around, the woman spoke in a voice without any expectations.

“Oh, wait a minute. Some writing utensils.”

It doesn’t make sense to participate in class and not have anything to write about.

I looked around the cluttered desk and picked up the black Monami ballpoint pen that was rolling around in the corner.

    “…What are you planning?”

When I looked at her with a ballpoint pen, the woman frowned and said,

    “Yes? Let’s go to class.”

I opened my eyes and protested.

“So… you’re going to take the ‘class’?”

    “Why can’t I take class? Well… it’s tutoring?”

I debated for a while whether it was tutoring or homeschooling, but the more likely option was tutoring.

Seeing my confident attitude, the woman pressed her temples with her fingers.

It looks like you have a headache.

    “Hehe… Hold on, Yoon Sia.”

I learned her name through a self-hypnotizing muttering.

    Yoon Sia.

After closing her eyes and pressing her head for a while, she returned to her calm face.

“Okay, since you said you would take the class, there’s nothing wrong with it, right? You can’t leave midway or sleep in bed like last time.”

What kind of life was the owner of this body living?

If you recall the messy state of the room, you can probably guess roughly.

After class, I’ll do as much research as I can.

    ***

My high school life wasn’t that fun. Because there was so much pressure for grades, I couldn’t enjoy studying itself.

In that sense, high school math was fun in its own way as a simple knowledge without pressure.

Yoon Sia’s class was an act of pulling out knowledge from deep in the library of memories and blowing away the white dust that had settled on it with her mouth.

    “Try solving the problem here.”

She pointed to a page labeled ‘Basic Concept Summary’.

I picked up a Monami ballpoint pen.

Problem number 1… It’s a simple factorization problem.

After completing the calculations in my head, I put the pen to the paper.

    ‘(x+4)(x+2)’

No matter how much time has passed since I graduated from high school, it is too easy a question.

    “…….”

I could feel Yun Sia’s eyes staring at me as I tried to solve the problem without hesitation.

It took about 5 minutes to solve all the basic problems.

    “Umm….”

Yoon Sia’s eyes were seen vibrating from side to side as she graded with a red pen.

The more red circles she drew on the questions, the more suspicious her eyes became.

After the two-hour class, Yoon Sia glanced at me as she was organizing her bag.

“Kang In-ho, what are you planning?”

I didn’t know what to ask.

If a student who was normally uncooperative changes his attitude overnight and starts taking class, you will probably be suspicious rather than thinking it’s amazing.

“Just like that. I wanted to listen to it once.”

I will live properly from now on. I didn’t even bring up a story that wouldn’t work.

It would be better to just gloss over it and say that I heard it because I was interested.

    “Really?”

I saw that her expression brightened slightly, as if I had made the right choice.

As soon as she finished organizing her bag, she got up and folded the simple chair.

    “I hope that interest continues.”

“Well, I’m not sure about that.”

I shrugged my shoulders and spoke in a nonchalant way, and Yoon Sia looked at me with eyes that said yes.

“You told me to leave it behind… so you’re leaving the textbook here?”

Yun Sia checked again and left the textbook on the desk.

I left the room with Yoon Sia.

I go down from the 2nd floor to the 1st floor and look around the house.

It is a nice and spacious house.

    “I’ll come on Wednesday. Pre-study, review… if you’re interested.”

She put emphasis on the word ‘interesting’.

    “Goodbye.”

When I greeted her at the front door, she tilted her head as if it was really strange.

“Did he really eat something wrong?”

    “I can hear everything.”

When I glared at her with cold eyes, Yoon Sia looked at me as if she felt aggrieved.

“No, it’s funny even if you think about it. Just a few days ago, you didn’t even treat me like a human… I don’t know why you’re suddenly acting like this?”

    “…I won’t comment on that.”

    “Ah… No way, you, Inho!”

Yoon Sia clapped her hands and pointed at me with her finger.

The large movements make it a gesture that seems to have uncovered an enormous fact.

“You got caught and beaten by your father?”

    “No.”

    I don’t know, maybe it’s real.

    “What… isn’t it? Then what is it…”

She had a thoughtful look on her face the entire time she left the house.

Oh, I was going to ask you how you got your keys, but I forgot.

    ***

The first thing I did after sending Yoon Shia off was to change the door lock password.

I reset it from the inside and changed it to a number I know.

I think I needed a key for the front door, and this could be found in the room.

“Now… let’s look at the phone.”

After searching the room, I found a cell phone under the bed.

Turn the black liquid crystal screen at an angle and look at the handprint. The marks of hand rubbing appear long.

Among those trajectories, we infer and draw the most common one.

After several attempts, the phone was unlocked.

    “Let’s see….”

I sit down on the bed and go to KakaoTalk.

There are quite a lot of messages, so I go into the room where there are a lot of messages.

    Did you buy alcohol?

How are you going to get new clothes this time?

    Where is the smoking hole?

Let’s hang out at the motel.

Let’s rent a car and go to the beach to get some fresh air.

    hmm….

Just when I thought I was possessed by a pretty bad guy, I received a message from someone.

Jeonga♡: Inho, are you awake? Jintae said he drank alcohol today, let’s go to a karaoke bar and eat.
