Chapter Index

As we entered the old building, a thick smell of dust greeted us.

The feel of the dust that was shallowly spread on the floor and the fine dust that rose with each step told me that this place was uninhabited.

    “Oh…”

Appleton started taking pictures as soon as he entered the place.

Rain and I had no choice but to stick close to Shine and follow her wherever she went.

The moment I let go of Shine’s hand, the dust rising from the floor seemed like it would turn into a white ghost and catch me.

    “Are you that scared?”

“Oh, no! I’m doing this because I’m afraid Shine might be in danger!”

I screamed out loud at Shine’s playful question.

It was meant to express that I wasn’t afraid.

The loud voice I let out spread throughout the empty building and came back towards us.

My voice, faintly echoing and scattering, was strangely creepy.

It felt like a ghost was mimicking my voice at the end of the hallway, so I hugged Shine’s waist and burrowed under her armpit.

    “Ugh…”

“Jeff. This is making it hard to walk.”

Shine said with a small laugh at my movements.

    She was right.

She seemed to have difficulty moving because I was hitting her so hard.

At that moment, Rain, who was hanging on the opposite side of Shine, opened his eyes wide as if he had made up his mind about something and let go of Shine’s hand.

    “Rain, Rain?”

Rain didn’t respond to my voice.

I just took one step at a time, mustering up my courage and walking forward.

When I thought we had gained some distance, Rain turned to me and gave me a strangely victorious smile.

    “Huh.”

And then he starts laughing at me a little bit.

Rain looks at her as if he is looking at his cute little sister.

I looked at her and my face heated up.

Rain did it too, so there’s no way I can’t do it too.

I slowly released the hand that was holding Shine’s waist.

The empty warmth and the strangely cold wind blowing through it made goosebumps appear on my skin.

    Gulp-

I swallowed dry saliva and thought to myself.

    There are no ghosts.

    I can do it.

    Can stand alone.

You can move forward like Rain!

I opened my eyes wide and took a step forward.

Footsteps – The sound of small footsteps became too loud.

What if a ghost hears my footsteps?

What if the ghost hasn’t noticed we’re in here yet?

What if my footsteps woke up a ghost?

What if something white and transparent were to fly at high speed from the end of that hallway right now?

A lot of thoughts quickly pass through my head.

But no matter how long I waited, what I expected did not happen.

    It was just quiet.

Without any problems, I was able to get to Rain’s side.

    “After-”

I stood next to Rain and sighed in relief.

I tried it and it was nothing special.

    Yes, there was no ghost.

Even though I fell from Shine’s side, the ghost did not appear.

    Knock knock-

    That was when.

Suddenly, a sound like something being dragged was heard.

Because I had let go of the tension, my reaction was a beat late.

Unlike me, Rain jumped up from his spot and screamed.

    “Yaaah!”

    “Kkiyaaak!”

I too screamed a beat later.

Rain and I ran around in panic.

Thump thump – small feet moved ceaselessly, scattering dust in all directions.

My little heart was pounding, and I was sneezing nonstop because of the dust that had risen up all over the place.

There were tears in Rain’s eyes and snot in his nose.

It was no different for me.

Ghost! Ghost is coming for me!

The scary guy will sneak up on me without a sound and open his big mouth towards me.

A blue tongue would pop out from its gaping mouth, taste me, and then swallow me whole in one gulp.

As I was imagining such terrifying things, I was able to meet Rain’s eyes.

She seemed to have imagined something similar to mine, as her face turned pale.

I, with a runny nose and tears running down my face, ran to where Shine was standing.

Rain also started running in the same direction as me.

    “Shy~!”

    “Hueeeng!”

Shine was still standing there, just like before.

I ran quickly and hung next to her.

Then, as if she had been waiting, Shine hugged me and patted my back.

Pat pat – My heart calms down as a small hand pats my back.

I sniffled in her arms and dug deeper into her.

Rain put his body between mine and Shine’s arms.

She too had her eyes tightly shut with a disfigured face, tears and snot running down her face.

Moans flowed out of his mouth incessantly.

“Shh, Jeff. It’s okay. It’s nothing.”

    “Huh, hueeeng!”

    The tears wouldn’t stop.

Before I was held in Shine’s arms, I had this constant thought in my head that a ghost was coming to get me.

“Are you scared of Rain too?”

    “Ah, ah. Ugh. No!”

Rain and I stayed in Shine’s arms for a long time.

Until my small heart calms down.

Shine didn’t seem to care that her clothes were wet, and patiently didn’t push me or Rain out of her arms.

I, who had been groaning, raised my head and calmly caught my breath.

    “Are you done now?”

    “Ugh, uh.”

I was seriously embarrassed by the disgrace I had just seen.

My face was burning hot and my toes and fingers kept curling inward.

I wiggled my fingers and lowered my head.

“Wow, what did you just say?”

    “Oh, that thing just now?”

“Yeah, I heard a noise like something was being dragged.”

“That’s the sound Appleton made when he opened the door.”

    “Question…?”

    “Yeah.”

I lifted my head at Shine’s words and looked at where Appleton was standing.

She was standing in front of the wide open classroom door, taking random pictures of me and Rain with her camera.

As she was taking pictures, she waved at me.

The small smile that appeared on his face felt somehow annoying.

“, what if he suddenly opens the door?”

“Oh, sorry. I was wondering what was inside…”

Appleton responded to my words with a slump, as if the grass had died down.

I added urgently to her response.

“Ah, no, that’s not what I meant… I was surprised when you suddenly opened it. Next time, open it after saying something…”

“Okay. I’ll do that next time.”

Appleton nodded in response to my words.

I breathed a sigh of relief.

That sound just now wasn’t a ghostly sound, it was Appleton opening the door.

    Thank goodness. I’m really thankful.

Rain also heard Appleton’s words, and popped his head out from under Shine and me.

“Wow, was that the sound of the door opening?”

    “Yeah.”

    “After-”

Rain let out a small sigh and pulled out of Shine’s arms.

She looked around with an indifferent expression, as if she hadn’t cried.

    “What classroom is that?”

    “It’s like a science lab.”

After confirming that there was no ghost, I nodded to Appleton and approached her.

He didn’t let go of Shine’s hand.

As I pulled at her tightly clenched hand, Shine followed me with a small smile.

    “Science lab?”

    “Yeah.”

I looked inside the open door at Appleton’s words.

I just stuck my head in and looked around, and I found a display case full of transparent beakers.

In the corner of the classroom, there was something large, covered with a white cloth, and it was very large.

It seemed as if the scientific experiment tools were covered to prevent dust from accumulating.

Appleton entered the classroom without any fear.

Appleton looked around with small footsteps making a thumping sound, and immediately took a picture.

I stood pressed against the door and waited for her to finish filming.

“What, is there something on it?”

    “No, there’s nothing.”

Appleton shook his head at my question.

Only then did I breathe a sigh of relief and follow Appleton into the classroom.

Shine and Rain followed me in too.

Here too, there was a lot of dust piled up.

How long must it have been since anyone came in for dust to accumulate to the point where footprints can be seen?

I put my foot on what appeared to be Appleton’s footprint.

    “Oh.”

A small black shoe gleams above the footprints.

I tilted my head at it.

Footprints remain for a long time.

Appleton’s feet didn’t look that different in size from mine.

So, this means that these footprints are not Appleton’s.

As my thoughts continued slowly, I tapped my foot again, feeling the footprints.

    It was big.

I wasn’t seeing things wrong, it was definitely a large footprint.

Not a child’s, but an adult’s. Perhaps even among adults, the feet were clearly particularly large.

“Rain, Rain. Come here and see?”

I called Rain just in case.

Rain, who was walking around and dusting the desk, came over to me at my words.

    “Why?”

“Hey, put your feet up here.”

    “Your feet?”

    “Yeah.”

I lifted my foot from the footprint I was walking on and looked up at Lane’s foot.

Little shoes step up onto big footprints.

    As expected, it was big.

    It was too big.

    “What is this?”

Rain tilted his head as if he didn’t understand the footprints he was walking on.

I opened my eyes wide and looked around.

Now I see that there wasn’t just one footprint.

Although it was blurred by the dust, there were large footprints all over the place.

    “Heeek!”

The moment I discovered that fact, I was startled and took a step back into a corner.

The more I retreated, the more I could see the surrounding scenery at a glance.

This was definitely a place haunted by ghosts.

The path of ghosts with big feet!

I held my breath, clutching my pounding heart.

And at that moment, something hit my back with a thud.

Because I stepped back too thoughtlessly, I bumped into something that was covered with a large cloth.

The dust covering the cloth began to fall like rain, and the white cloth was slid off.

    Their eyes meet.

Black – Eyes as cold as ice and emotionless stare at me.

The appearance was a face that was strangely repulsive.

Only about half of them were like that.

The skin covering her plain face was shiny and glossy, but the opposite was not the case.

Red, exposed muscles, slightly visible bones, and even blue blood vessels.

    I swallowed at the sight.

    Gulp-

It was as if time had stopped.

It was tall and was looking down at me.

    “Hee-”

The moment I thought I heard the sound of air escaping from my mouth.

I had no choice but to use all my might to spit out the voice that was boiling inside me.

    “Heee!”

The hairs on my head stand on end.

Even though it wasn’t intentional, a blue light enveloped my entire body.

Pajik – As the sound of lightning crackles in my ears, a blue lightning bolt shoots out in front of me.

    Kwajijijik!

    Bad, bad ghost.

    Revealed itself.

He thrust his hideous face in, trying to devour me.

I poured out my lightning with all my might.

The strength drains from your body, and the large object in front of you is burned black.

    Phage crackle-!

There was some voices coming from the surroundings, but they were drowned out by the electric noise that filled the surroundings.

After pouring out my thoughts for a long time, I sat down, out of breath.

    “Heh… Heh…”

The thing that had been blackened and melted to the point that its shape was unrecognizable was still on fire.

I shed tears as I smelled the burnt smell that filled the surroundings.

    Tears streaming down my cheeks.

    “Jeff!”

Shine came to me like that.

I burst into tears and ran into her arms.

    “Huh, hh …

    “Don’t cry. Shh. It’s okay. I’m here.”

    “You, there’s a ghost over there…”

I pointed to it as it melted and turned black while crying.

A small fire had been lit and it was burning so fiercely that it was no longer possible to guess its original shape.

“It was just a human model.”

    “A human body model?”

Shine, who had been hugging me, nodded to Appleton, who was standing far away.

She, who was holding a camera and taking pictures of me, must have noticed Shine’s gesture as she removed the white cloth behind her back.

Flutter – A lot of dust flutters along with the white cloth.

Inside the stripped-off cloth, just as Shine had said, there was a truly frightening-looking human model.

    “Isn’t that a ghost?”

“Yeah. It’s just a simple model.”

I felt the tension in my body relax at Shine’s words.

I have no strength in my legs.

He leans against the wall, trying to control his drooping body.

I stared at the center of the classroom in silence.

There, Rain was lying down with his eyes closed.

    She didn’t move.

    He seemed to have fainted.
