Chapter Index

    193. Flood (3)

Waves of monsters, more numerous than the ones you occasionally encounter while exploring, were rushing through the city.

    “Wow!!”

Sia is horrified at the sight.

“Ms. Jury. If there are that many people, wouldn’t they quickly reach their limit if they hold out from the beginning?”

    “Okay, everyone, prepare for battle!”

It will take some time for the monsters to reach the accommodations, so those who can fight have prepared.

Julie’s men immediately took out their weapons from their arms and went outside the barrier, while Claude and Lauren went to the second floor and Uncle Frank went into the first floor break room.

“Roy, Mila. Let’s go to the third floor.”

    “Yes, Sister Zion!”

    “No!”

“Ah! Sister, I’ll go with you too!”

When Zion took Roy and Mila up to the third floor, Mion also followed them up to the third floor.

Julie was already outside the dormitory, giving various instructions to her subordinates.

The remaining ones are Carmella and Tanya with their swollen bellies.

As they were flustered, I walked over to them, put my arm around their shoulders, and said,

“Carmela Tanya, go to the last room on the third floor.”

    “Self…”

    “Master…”

Their shoulders trembled at the sight of the helpless situation and the terrifying horde of monsters.

“Don’t be sorry, it’s natural. Hurry up.”

Finally, after a few more pleas and even some cutesy behavior from Sia, they were able to get them up to the third floor.

    Squeak-!

    “Cain.”

    “Oh.”

I saw Uncle Frank coming out of the break room.

The leather armor only protected the torso without any forearms, like a nasi, and the forearms and trapezius muscles were sticking out, twitching as if they would burst at any moment.

    “Is it strange?”

    “Yep.”

This guy’s body looks even better when he takes his clothes off.

The old man’s body, which was usually fierce, looked truly threatening.

Especially the tattoos that are all over both arms.

“…I didn’t draw it for show.”

    “Yep.”

I guess so. It didn’t look like he was trying to cover up the scar, but his expression was so serious that I looked away, telling him not to get any more attention.

    “What about the empty lot?”

“It’s not that crowded yet, so let’s not open it for now.”

    “Yeah.”

The supplies that had been collected diligently over the past ten days were all piled up in an empty lot.

Since Uncle Frank built buildings in a square shape on the outskirts of commercial districts where land was cheap, it was easy to build barriers and strongholds.

While I was talking to Uncle Frank about supplies, my colleagues came down wearing their gear.

“Brother Roy. I’ll help you Mion.”

    “Thank you Claude.”

    “Yeah. Thanks.”

Claude saw Roy and Mion coming down carrying several boxes, and he snatched all of their wooden boxes and brought them down.

    thud-!

The tables on the first floor were pushed to the edge, and a total of seven boxes, three for Zion and Mila, and two each for Roy and Mion, were placed in the center of the first floor.

“Did you take out all of Zion?”

“No, I haven’t even taken it out halfway yet.”

    “Oh….”

I was wondering why I had been feeling so restless for a few days, and then I realized I had been making potions without any sense.

In the last exploration, the box was filled with not only the fire, explosion, and freezing potions that had allowed Lauren to lead the spirit magic, but also various other spells.

“I made a ton of them just in case I had to fight the security guys in the city. I bet they’ll be helpful.”

    “Good job.”

    Swish swish-

    “Nyaa… Huh!!”

As I stroke Zion’s head with praise, his expression melts away.

    Easy, easy.

After a brief moment of talking with her subordinates outside, Julie sneaked into the dorm and grabbed a box.

    “Everything here is for attack?”

    “Ah.. Yeah, that’s right.”

    “Thank you~”

Then he goes out of the quarters again and distributes potions to his subordinates.

Zion, who was looking at her like that, opened his mouth towards me.

“Even though he looks like that, he secretly takes good care of his people.”

    “Ms. Jury?”

“Ugh. So Nana Mila is alive and well in the black market.”

    “Yes.”

Zion explained how to use the potions in the remaining boxes.

While everyone was preparing for battle.

    “Self…”

    “Master…”

“What? When did you both come down?”

Carmela and Tanya, who had been sent up to the safe room on the third floor, had come back down.

    “I can’t do it.”

    “Me too..”

“You’re not talking about fighting, are you?”

We both flinched at my slightly lowered voice, but Tanya eventually mustered up her courage and spoke first.

“Anyway, if this place gets breached, it’s the third floor and everything else, so it’s over. And… I want to help by throwing a potion that Sister Sion made.”

“That’s right. I’m not strong, but I’m good at throwing potion bottles since I’m level 3.”

There, Roy and Mion approached me and appealed to me that they wanted to join the battle.

    “ha….”

“Just tell me to do it.”

Claude looked at me and shrugged his head.

“… Okay. But when I tell you to leave, you must leave.”

    “”””Yeah!!!””””

Tanya and Carmella were told to open the window in the empty room on the second floor and throw the potion, while Mion and Roy decided to throw the potion near the barrier outside the dorm with us.

    “Kweeek!”

    “Kaaah!!”

And by that time the monsters were almost upon us.

Even though they were coming, it took some time for them to get to us because they were attacking the surrounding buildings and people.

    “Zion. Shake the terrain!”

    Phong-!!

    “Gulp, gulp, gulp..!!”

At my words, Zion took a potion out of his bosom and drank it.

And a powerful wave of magical power gushes out.

The moment Zion opened his eyes, he had been concentrating for a while with his eyes closed.

    “Earthquake.”

    Kurrurururung!!!!!

The ground beneath the monsters, almost within sight, shook like crazy.

    “Keruk?”

    “Keeek?”

The ground sinks at least 30 centimeters and the monsters on the surface are confused.

    “Lauren!”

    “Yeah!!!”

    Kaang!!!

At my shout, Lauren slams her shield into the ground and closes her eyes.

And then a mysterious voice came out of her mouth.

Perhaps it was because of the protection of the spirit magic, or perhaps it was because there were spirits in the city outside the labyrinth, but the collapsed ground began to wobble like clay.

And then she opens her eyes.

    “Yay!!!”

    Crack!!!

The result of Lauren clapping her hands together with a clear voice that did not match the atmosphere was completely unexpected.

    Phew!!!

    Quadduk!!!

    Crackle!!!!

    “Keeeng!!”

    “Keeek!!!”

When the rippling ground had swallowed most of the monsters’ bodies, she clapped her hands and the monsters began to burst out, returning to their original solid forms.

    “Hooo….”

    dump!!!

    “Woof…!”

Lauren sat down, seemingly exhausted, while Zion continued to drink the other potions, feeling nauseous.

“Claude. Lauren, hold her back for a moment.”

    “Ah.. Yeah!”

Claude, who had been gaping at the sight before his eyes, came to his senses at my words and moved Lauren to the back.

Not only Claude, but everyone else looked very surprised.

    “Awesome…”

Even Julie is giving Lauren and Sia a thumbs up.

    “……Hmm..!”

If Uncle Frank’s eyes and mouth had gotten bigger, that would have said it all.

I thought it would be good to sharpen the range, so I asked Zion and Lauren to do it on the spur of the moment, and it worked.

The flat road became a mess here and there as the power of controlling Earthquake and Lauren’s spirit power to crush the terrain was used to crush the ground.

First of all, all the monsters within range are dead, and those that come after will have a hard time advancing.

Then it will be a little easier for us to stop them.

    “But…you’re crazy.”

    “Still…”

Even though I killed over a hundred monsters at once, they quickly came rushing in to fill the empty space.

“There are only 1st level monsters left, so let’s all go!”

And then the battle began in earnest.

    *

    *

    *

    *

    BANG!!!

    Tsk tsk tsk!!

    Hurrr!!!

It’s been two hours since the battle started.

When their comrades fighting in the front start to tire, Sion and Loren use elemental magic and spirit magic to strike hard and disrupt the monsters’ formation.

And then Juri’s men and the potion throwers clear out the remaining monsters with their throwing weapons.

And then the rested fighters are sent back in again, until the monsters are replenished.

I continued to hunt monsters in this cycle.

    “Hey…! Frank!!!”

    “…!”

The monsters’ attacks had subsided a bit and I was resting more, when suddenly I heard a voice calling out to Uncle Frank.

    “You..?”

    “Hey.. can we join too..?”

I turned my head to see who the voice belonged to, and it was the owner of the lodging next door.

The inn owner only had minor injuries, perhaps because we were causing a ruckus and catching monsters, and he received relatively less aggro.

And behind him, about ten explorers appeared.

“Wait a minute, sir, we haven’t finished discussing it yet.”

A man stepped forward from behind the owner of the store next door, pushing his shoulder.

Level looked like a multi-level explorer, his expression a mixture of doubt and anger.

It was the face of a man who was mentally exhausted, not just tired from battle.

“Hey…! Was that Claude? That rookie!”

    “Ahahaha… yes.”

“You guys. You’ve been doing this and that in the dorms lately. Do you know this is what you’re going to do?”

    “Uh….”

One of the investigators who recognized Claude pursued him with questions.

I answered on behalf of the bewildered Claude.

    “I’ll tell you.”

    “What..?”

“After that day, the city’s behavior seemed strange. You’ve experienced it too. It was a completely different course of action than before. We prepared just in case, but we didn’t know it would be this bad.”

    “……Ugh!!”

Judging by his reaction, it seemed like a colleague or someone important to him was involved in that incident that day.

I tried to vent my endless anger, but he couldn’t argue any further with what I said.

You must have personally experienced the strange movements taking place in the city.

“Ha… I’m sorry. I misunderstood…. I didn’t realize it because you guys prepared so well.”

    “No, you can.”

“Master. Sorry, I want to join you too.”

After the man apologized to us, he also apologized to the owner and expressed his intention to join.

    “Okay.”

So, 13 more people joined us, including those who came from the building next to our accommodation.
