Chapter Index

    “I don’t want to go.”

Amy smiled bitterly at my answer.

Rain also answered from the side, similar to me.

“I don’t want to go either! I already graduated.”

“Why don’t you want to go?”

Amy asked me, holding Rain, who was bouncing around beside her, in her arms.

Lane, who had been waving her arms and legs wildly, saying she didn’t want to go to school, became quiet in Amy’s arms.

“First of all, I don’t know why I have to go.”

    “And?”

“Uh… I think the level of children is low.”

I brought up the subject cautiously, watching Amy’s expression.

It wasn’t for nothing that I had these thoughts.

Over the past week, all the kids I’ve met while going to the park have been childish.

    That was so childish.

If there were a lot of kids like that, there seemed to be no need to go to school.

    “Do you really think so?”

    “Yes. I really think so.”

I nodded in response to Amy’s words.

Shine also moved the mouse diligently, adding strength to my words.

    “That’s right. Children are immature.”

    “You guys are kids too?”

    “Jeff and I are different.”

A muffled laugh escaped Amy’s lips at Shine’s answer.

Puhhhh – At that small laugh, Shine turned her head away.

“Amy. And it’s dangerous outside. I don’t think it’s necessary to take risks and go to a school that won’t help you.”

I nodded my head, amazed at the logical words I had uttered.

If I say this much, won’t Amy give up on sending us to school?

“It’s not a dangerous place at all. It’s a school run by Grandfather Perman’s foundation.”

But she still seemed to want to send me, Shine, and Rain to school.

    Seriously, I was tired.

I let out a small sigh.

Amy reached out and caressed my cheek, as my breath came out in a heaving manner.

He shook his head and shook her hand away, his soft cheeks wrinkled here and there.

“Amy, we don’t have time to go to school.”

    “Really?”

“Yes. We have missions to complete and training to do. We don’t have enough time. We don’t have the luxury of time like children.”

Amy stared at the computer screen without saying anything in response to my answer.

There was a scene where Rain’s character was swinging large-scale magic and slaughtering monsters.

“This, this is only for one hour a day.”

“Jeff, you don’t have to go to school every day.”

    “Huh? Really?”

“Then. Do you know who your grandfather is?”

    “What a super cool grandpa.”

Amy burst into laughter at my answer.

Rain’s body shook as he burst out in laughter.

Lane remains still like a doll in Amy’s arms.

    She soon closed her eyes.

“Okay. Grandpa will make up for any missing attendance. You just have to go twice a week.”

    “Twice?”

    “Yeah.”

After thinking about it for a moment, I shook my head again.

“I still don’t like it. There’s no reason to go.”

Studying was not a problem since Rain and Amy taught me.

    At least I think so.

Wouldn’t Shine think the same way as me?

“School is a good place. It’s a place where you can develop the social skills you lack.”

“Do I seem to lack social skills?”

“Jeff is okay, but Shine is a bit…”

I turned my head to look at Shine at Amy’s answer.

I wanted to agree with the statement that Shine lacks social skills.

    “Um…”

Do I really have to go to school for Shine’s sake?

But still, I felt like wasting two days out of the week at school was a waste of time.

    “It’s a waste of time.”

As I answered like that, Amy picked up Lane.

Rain raised high like a doll.

She swayed back and forth as Amy moved her hands.

“Rain! I don’t want to go to school!”

    “Eww~”

    Rain screamed.

    With a happy looking face.

When I squinted my eyes and looked up at her, she averted her gaze and shut her mouth.

“Why does Rain have to go with us?”

“You need someone to protect you by your side.”

Well, I wonder if Rain can really protect us.

It wasn’t that I doubted her skills, but I was still worried.

I never doubted it at all.

I was just thinking about it because I was worried about Rain.

While I was lost in thought, Amy shook Lane roughly and urged him to answer.

“Rain! Are you going with the kids? Are you going to help me?”

    “Help me…? Amy?”

    “Yeah.”

    “Uh… Okay! I’ll do that!”

When Lane, who had been thinking for a moment, answered strongly, Amy smiled brightly and hugged her.

Rain smiled happily, his face flushed red.

“But we won’t go. If you want to send it like that, send Rain alone.”

    My thoughts remained unchanged.

As I spun around the swivel chair I was sitting in, Amy opened her mouth with a look of regret.

“Are you really not going? You’ll be able to see Grandpa Perman too.”

Amy’s words make my hands twitch.

    You can see your grandfather?

    Is that true?

But I couldn’t believe it so easily.

I calmed my trembling body and held the mouse in my hand.

“Going there might increase your game time.”

Amy tried to negotiate with Shine in a cowardly manner.

She is currently addicted to computer games.

One hour a day was not enough to digest all the content.

As soon as Amy finished speaking, Shine’s chair rolled back.

    “Really?”

    “Really.”

“How much will you increase it?”

Amy’s finger rose in response to Shine’s question.

    “An hour?”

Then Shine turned away without saying a word.

Amy, who had an anxious expression on her face, held up two fingers.

    “Two, two hours!”

Shine’s chair swiveled again and looked at Amy.

    She was worried.

“Two hours… Two hours? So, if you add one hour, you can do it for a total of three hours?”

    “Oh, right?”

    “Hmm… Hmm… Hmm…”

    Shine’s head nods.

I waited for her to accept, so I reached out and pulled Shine into my arms.

    “Jeff?”

    “Don’t tempt Shine!”

Shine, who is held in my arms.

I hugged her tightly, turned the chair around, and kicked the wall with my foot.

Then the chair slid down and ran towards the toy house.

    I almost got into trouble.

If Shine, who had fallen for the temptation, had agreed to Amy’s words, then naturally I would have had to go to school too.

Because Shine and I were always supposed to be together.

“Shine. Don’t give in to temptation.”

I dragged Shine into the toy house, sat her down, and gave her a firm warning.

    Shine nodded at my words.

“But, Jeff. If you don’t go to school, you won’t have much time to play games.”

I agreed with Shine that an hour was less, but I still couldn’t go out.

I stuck my head out the small window and watched Amy’s movements.

She waved her hand, looking at the toy house.

I also naturally extended my hand and shook it in greeting to her.

    “Ouch!”

    But this won’t do.

I turned my head and took my hand back.

    I will never go.

“Why does Jeff hate school so much?”

    Then, Shine asked a question.

I turned to her and sat down, saying:

    “Me? I hate school?”

“Yeah. From what I hear Jeff say, it sounds like he’s making up excuses to not want to go to school.”

“Are you wasting your time? Me?”

    “Yeah.”

I opened my mouth in a daze at Shine’s words.

Did it really look like that?

Did it seem like a child’s tantrum rather than a logical argument?

I felt the strength leave my shoulders.

“I think it wouldn’t be bad to go there once.”

Shine sat next to me and held my hand.

When I heard it, it seemed like that.

Why did I refuse to go to school like that?

Clearly, something happened in the past.

    “Right?”

    “Uh… Yeah.”

    Let’s think about it carefully.

I nodded, trying to recall the hazy memory.

However, memories that are too old and faded are buried deep and not easily recalled.

    “Jeff, let’s go. Okay?”

“Shine, are you doing this because you want to play a game?”

I released Shine’s hand and jumped up from my seat.

She had a rare look of bewilderment on her face.

    “Oh, no!”

    “That’s right.”

“I’m sure of it,” Shine nodded in response.

    “That’s true…”

    Shine, who admits too easily.

I looked down at the little girl in silence.

The girl who always gave in to me asked me to go to school because she wanted to play games.

She was watching me closely so as not to hurt my feelings.

I sat there with my mouth open in a daze, thinking.

Am I just thinking too much about myself?

Because Shine was always accommodating to me, I seemed to have taken it for granted.

I approached Shine, who was sitting quietly, and grabbed her hand.

“Shine. Do you really want to go?”

“To be honest, it’s a bit annoying. I think it wouldn’t be bad to go once. And the uniforms I saw in the comics were pretty.”

“Then do you want to wear a school uniform?”

“No, I’d rather see what Jeff is wearing than what I’m wearing…”

Her honest answer touched my heart.

I stuck my head out the window again.

There she saw Amy, holding Lane’s arm and punching the air.

Rain, who was held in her arms and turned into a doll.

    She looked happy though.

    “Okay. Let’s go.”

    “Really?”

“Yeah. Because Shine wants to go.”

Shine rushed to my answer and hugged my waist.

    It didn’t feel bad.

As we emerged from the toy house, Lane and Amy’s eyes turned to us.

I cleared my throat and answered Amy.

    “Okay. I’ll go.”

    “Really?”

    “Yes.”

“That’s great. Grandpa will love it.”

Amy moved Lane’s hand and clapped her hands.

Clap clap clap, Rain’s small hand moved several times, making a sound.

    “When are you going?”

    “Next week!”

But they still give us time to prepare.

    ***

    Time really flew by.

It would be accurate to say that I forgot about school.

No, to be more precise, I didn’t even have time to think about school.

Over the course of several days, we compiled the information we learned from this mission into a new report.

Amy and Victor did most of the work, but I also had my fair share of busy times.

Shine and I increased the intensity of our training a little bit.

One day, as I was spending my days feeling tired both mentally and physically.

Amy put down her pretty school uniform in front of me and Shine.

    “This is…”

    “It’s a school uniform.”

The school uniform, which was a nice mix of black and white, and the large red ribbon on the front of the chest were really cute.

I felt a little awkward thinking about wearing that.
