Chapter Index

It was a sight that could only be described as both funny and pitiful.

It was not hard to understand that a fight was being fought for the empire.

However, the main characters in the fight for that empire were in a terrible state.

The King of the Ghosts was a man who lost his country because of the weaklings known as the child soldiers of the empire. Even so, he could not abandon his compassion and his justice, the precepts, until the very end.

The Empress lost her beloved brother, abandoned her virginity to kill the one who murdered her brother, and was called a crippled whore by the foolish. She brandished her sword for those who pointed fingers at her.

The Emperor lost his mother during his time as a prince due to the plots of his wicked concubines, and lived in seclusion like a pig until he was saved by the Empress. However, seeing his friends being persecuted made him hate the Empire. Nevertheless, today, he has devoted his soul to the Empire.

Camilla had never received love from anyone during her childhood, and even lost her brother, who had shown her no affection but at least a formal word. It was an empire she had no reason to love, but she still swung her spear.

What more needs to be said about Raoul? In the midst of living a life of separation and detachment, he was forced to give up his peaceful life and throw his sick body into the battlefield. He was fighting, throwing not only his sick body but also his immersed mind.

What about those who are fighting the demons far away?

Kyle lost his family in the foolish war started by the Emperor. Nevertheless, he continued the disgusting fight to protect the nobles he hated, with the sole intention of saving those who saved him.

What about Latri? He grew up not knowing happiness due to the rigid family traditions of the Imperial Knights, lost his chastity due to the stubbornness of his family and the corruption of the Empire, and was punished for tormenting his son due to the rationality he was taught. Nevertheless, he fought with the determination to accept that punishment.

It was a truly humorous opera. But at least the King of the Ghosts found the content of the opera extremely repulsive.

They were people who hated the empire together, but it wasn’t enough. They had never received anything from the empire, and they were in a situation where they could have destroyed the empire together.

But why do they fight for the Empire and stand in their way? What value is there in that disgusting country where you can find neither justice, pride, nor faith?

“Disgusting. It’s false, hypocritical, and pretentious.”

He did what the people of the empire liked: he detested what they did not understand.

“To my eyes, you all look like… livestock, swayed by the yoke of instilled ideas.”

They are not truly fighting for the Empire.

They just fight because they were taught from childhood to give their lives for the empire.

There is no way these honorable warriors would sacrifice their pride and lives for a country like that, a disgusting bunch of bandits.

Even so, he misinterpreted the unknown that he could not understand. That is what it is like for all people. They are beings who think of all things according to their own framework.

The King of Ghosts was no different.

“I acknowledge you. I fully understand your hearts, which are the pillars that support the nation. However… you chose the wrong country to support, so that is your fault.”

In the two arms of the King of the Ghosts were four bows, or rather, something vaguely ivory and shimmering that looked like bows.

Originally, in order to use a bow, one had to have an empty hand to pull the string, but that was no longer necessary for him.

I could shoot it just by making up my mind to shoot it.

“It’s time to pay the price for sin.”

The first target was the Emperor, who was rushing forward to protect the Empress.

“Even if the one who became the emperor steps forward and shows the spirit of sacrifice!!! Did you think that the world would be moved by that spirit and retreat!!! Don’t you know that with the right spirit, you can’t protect even a single plant!!! How can you not know that the audacity of stepping forward thinking that you are special!!! Is the worst vice that an emperor should not have!!!!!”

Even the blazing red flames could not stop the arrows of the evil army that pierced through everything.

The Emperor answered, but it could not have reached the ears of those who had given up understanding.

“Fall in ignorance without even seeing the results, Emperor.”

After subduing the emperor, he aimed his bow at his next target.

A woman who is furious at having her husband overthrown, the most talented woman in the empire, a pillar of both civil and military talent, and a supreme woman who becomes the empress of the empire.

A woman like that came swinging her sword, losing her mind.

“Pillar of the Empire! And at the same time, a woman who is more ignorant of the ways of the world than anyone else! Who would recognize such feats! No matter how great you are, you cannot change the fate of the nation that is falling apart! Do you really not know who is suffering from your meaningless struggles? What meaning is there in the struggles of the powerless!!!”

Even if the Empress could foresee the movements of all things, she could not foresee even the things that the King of Ghosts would send forth.

Four arrows pierced her thighs and chest, causing her to lose consciousness as well.

“Don’t you know that the weak… must live by conforming? What can the weak, who can’t even muster up a cruel heart, do?”

The king’s words seemed to convey not pity but even sadness.

But there was no one to answer that sad voice. There were only those who were angry for their fallen friend.

Camilla, in anger, also swung her spear with a powerful lightning bolt, and the King of the Wraiths barely dodged it before moving away and aiming his bow.

A technique that is extremely refined, without any trace of frills. With such a technique in him, despite his overwhelming physical abilities, Camilla could not defeat him.

“Princess of the Empire…! I acknowledge your talent for the spear! But what use is a mere talent for handling weapons! How can you not know that you cannot save the country with talent for hunting animals! Even if your personal military power is outstanding! You are a madman who does not know the extent of the despair felt when you cannot save anything!”

Camilla, who was hit by an arrow shot with his voice that was almost mad, also lost consciousness. Even she would have to faint if she lost that much blood.

And the king of the ghosts glared at his last remaining opponent, Raoul. Raoul also said something, but the voices of the other warriors did not reach him, as he had given up on understanding.

    “Raoul Bergé…!”

The King of the Wraiths was furious, for he was now a creature who could not help but be furious.

Was he wielding his anger? Or was his anger wielding him? It was a chicken-and-egg argument. It was a difficult, pointless argument, a foolish argument that tried to separate what was united.

“How can you not know that you are the most foolish person here!”

Red tears of blood began to drip from beneath the helmet worn by the King of Ghosts.

“That complacent thought that you can shoulder everything on your own! How can you not know that it is the most selfish foolish thing ever! Because of that complacent thought, the ones who will suffer are the ones you want to protect! Are you intoxicated with yourself for shouldering everything on your own? Or is it that you don’t trust it? Either way, it’s your arrogance! This is the end of a pathetic farce! How… truly… foolish…!!!”

He fired his last arrows at Raoul. He aimed for something beyond Raoul, not at him, but the arrows ended up piercing Raoul.

“…..You are foolish, you tyrant. Raoul’s taunt is right. How can I be a king when I don’t even have people? What is here is nothing but a mere illusion.”

He walked forward, holding the heroes’ necks with his four arms.

“You are a delusional person who has no right to curse someone. Even if you curse while looking at clear water, nothing will change. No, it was reflected from the beginning… It was a meaningless venting of anger.”

He defeated all the heroes. He achieved something that even the Demon King could not do. Unlike the Demon King of the past who swung his weapon in anger, he was able to do this because he used mysterious techniques with a monster-like body.

Kyle, who had stopped the army of demons, wiped away his sweat and glanced at Ratri, who was wiping away blood from afar.

I don’t know what the annoyed lady was pretending to be here, but the change in her gaze made it obvious that something had happened.

“Hey ma’am. What the heck is going on…”

But before I could even finish asking that question, I felt a fear so strong that my whole body trembled.

And the being that was the epicenter of that fear revealed itself, creating a shocking scene.

The four heroes who saved the empire. He appeared before the nobles alone, holding the necks of the four.

“What a disgusting smell. Even as time goes by, your disgusting smell doesn’t change.”

    He said, strangling your hero.

“From this moment on, I refrain from saying anything that is not related to what I am saying.”

Everyone present could tell that he meant it.

If you go against his will, you will die without even being able to put up a proper fight.

“This tyrant intends to kill these four. However… This tyrant wants to propose a deal.”

It’s a deal, so what could he possibly offer given his overwhelming superiority?

    “Five people.”

He could have killed everyone on the spot and taken everything, but he insisted on proposing a strange deal.

“If five people come forward to die in place of these four, I will spare these four. However, those five will die a more horrible and painful death than anyone else in this world.”

    The king was convinced.

Among the scum of the empire, there are many who will speak of honor, but none will lay down their lives. Among the scum, except for the four heroes, there is none who knows the value of sacrifice.
