Chapter Index

    90. Murim.

After making a hole in the clone’s heart, all the surrounding scenery was enveloped in pure white light.

    [Floor 4 cleared.]

    [Moving to the reward room.]

Even in the brightened vision, only the form of the clone was clear. The clone was kneeling on the cold ground, head drooping. It felt like looking in a mirror. The feeling wasn’t good.

    Yohan muttered inwardly.

    ‘Thank you.’

    Whoosh-

Immediately afterward, Yohan disappeared from the vast Colosseum.

    ***

    [Calculating rewards.]

    [Acquiring 100 Karma.]

    [Acquiring 50,000 Gold.]

The rewards were terrible. Perhaps it was because the difficulty of the trial was not high. But then again, thinking about it, it was a floor with almost zero risk, yet it gave rewards.

‘You could practically consider it a bonus stage.’

Still, on the 4th floor, he gained valuable knowledge that could not be obtained with Karma or Gold. Yohan would have been satisfied even if there were no rewards.

He opened the status window. And soon, his eyes widened. The name of Fire Arrow was different from before. Yohan smiled softly.

It felt like he was seeing a gift the clone had left him. Looking down, he saw the changed Gold and Karma values.

Yohan left the 100 Karma he had just received and looked around. Before long, blue letters floated before his eyes.

[The next floor is floor 5.]

[The trials you can enter vary depending on your ranking.]

    ‘Ranking?’

    [The standard is Floor 3.]

    [Your ranking: 1st]

    [Entering Trial S#4001.]

Yohan didn’t react much up to this point. However, Yohan frowned slightly after reading the next line.

[The name of the trial is ‘Role Play’. The goal is to unify the Central Plains.]

[However, this trial may end even if the goal is not achieved.]

    [Roles will be assigned.]

    [Your role: Slave]

    “……What.”

    Whoooosh-

    And Yohan’s vision turned white.

    ***

As the pure white light gradually subsided, Yohan felt a burning pain from his right cheek.

    Smack-!

He couldn’t even react. He didn’t arrive and then get hit, but arrived in the middle of getting hit. An angry voice was heard above his head.

“Get up! You lazy bastard! How long are you going to lie there!”

    Smack! Smack! Thwack!

The owner of the voice continued to swing his hand while shouting. He kicked him from time to time. Yohan was about to fight back, but the strength felt in the opponent’s grasp was so poor that he stopped.

It didn’t hurt much. He was a person with physical abilities not much different from a modern person. Or, was he slightly better?

‘Let’s figure out the situation first. It was definitely called a role play.’

First, he needs to find Ms. Sara. Her regression ability is essential for carrying out the trial.

Before long, the pain felt on the right side of his face gradually subsided. Yohan was a proper superhuman, though not as much as other close combat types. His recovery speed far exceeds that of an ordinary person.

Yohan slowly opened his eyes. His vision was low. He was currently kneeling. Yohan prostrated himself towards the owner of the voice. Only then did the senseless violence stop.

The man, who was out of breath from hitting him for only a short while, said.

“Hah, hah. See, you should have gotten up sooner. Gah- Spit!”

Something sticky stuck to the back of Yohan’s head. It was the first time in his life he had been treated like this. He could have felt bad, but Yohan remained prostrate in silence. He was confident in his acting.

“Get up! You son of a bitch! Don’t try to be lazy!”

    “……”

“Yeah, now you listen well… huh, uh.”

The man spoke fiercely, but then stuttered at the end. What? Was this guy always this tall?

He was slightly embarrassed, but quickly regained his senses.

“What are you looking at! Get out quickly! There’s a mountain of work to do! A mountain!”

    “Yes.”

Yohan obediently bowed his head and replied. He looked around. Men in ragged clothes were leaving the building. Yohan was no different from them.

At that moment, strange memories were injected into Yohan’s mind.

Orphan, theft, ‘Murim person’, caught, slave, farm, and up to now. He accepted the memories of someone who looked exactly like Yohan, but had lived a completely different life.

He felt disgusted. Forcibly stuffing someone else’s memories into him, it was truly a terrible act.

But thanks to that, he was able to figure out where he was and where his position was. Yohan went outside.

    ‘It’s not even dawn yet.’

The first thing he saw was a fairly large farmland. Above it, the darkness that was clearly dense just a moment ago was slowly receding. It was a dim dawn.

To make them work before the sun even rises properly, it was an extremely exploitative company. Looking back at his memories, his work was barely over after the sun had completely set.

At that time, the man who had hit Yohan earlier climbed onto a cart placed in one place. Thanks to that, attention was focused on him.

“Alright! Alright! It’s no different from yesterday! If you finish your work quickly, you can rest early, and if you finish late, you’ll get nothing! Start!”

The man was already holding a whip in his hand. It appeared to be made from the skin of an old pig.

In this world, Yohan was a slave. And among the slaves, that whip was very notorious. One slave referred to the whip as follows.

    The old pig’s lament.

    Whack-!

“Move quickly, don’t dawdle! You pig bastards!”

    “Ugh!”

Someone was hit in the back with a whip. He screamed like a pig.

Yohan chuckled. The old pig’s lament, it was quite a self-deprecating nickname.

Yohan imagined himself being hit by the whip. It wouldn’t hurt, but it would feel pretty bad. He moved leisurely.

Suddenly, he remembered an experience he had when he was in school in modern times.

‘It’s like I’m on a farm experience learning trip.’

Thus, a much more realistic and smelly experience learning began.

    ***

“Ugh, damn it! Why does gravel keep coming out every time I dig!”

A middle-aged man who was making a furrow next to Yohan shouted like that. But the sound wasn’t very loud.

The middle-aged man glanced around, aware that he had spoken. A man with a whip was watching them not far away. It was a different man from before.

There was no way that just one person could manage this many slaves. There were about a dozen managers here.

Yohan swung his shovel. Crack, small pebbles were finely broken. Yohan said quietly.

    “Mister.”

    “Huh?”

“How long have you been here?”

The middle-aged man looked bewildered at Yohan’s sudden question. But he answered anyway. He was bored.

“Been here for about six months? Why do you ask?”

“No, I was just curious. But, have you ever seen a Murim person?”

    “Murim person?”

    “Yes.”

The middle-aged man’s eyes narrowed slightly. It was quite an interesting topic of conversation.

“Of course I’ve seen them. That, what’s his name, that guy sitting there with a serious face is also a Murim person. Although I’ve never seen him fight.”

Yohan moved his head so as not to be noticed by the manager. Sure enough, a man with quite a different aura was resting under the shade of a huge elm tree. He was chewing on a dandelion stem.

According to his memory, Murim people can shoot energy from their hands and fly like birds. However, the original owner of the body had never actually seen it. It was all information he had heard through rumors.

He was a young man who was a celestial orphan and a slave. How high could his level of knowledge be? Yohan needed information.

“How strong are they? Do you happen to know?”

But at that moment, the middle-aged man’s expression suddenly became serious.

    “Hey, you……”

    “……?”

What? Did I make a mistake? Yohan was slightly nervous. The middle-aged man lowered his voice and continued.

“Are you trying to escape? Don’t. You’ll just end up cleaning up corpses. Just shut up and work.”

    “……”

Ah, that’s how he understood it. That’s understandable. Yohan relaxed and replied.

“……It’s not that. I’m just bored. I’m bored.”

    The middle-aged man looked suspicious.

“Really? Hmm…… Well, whatever. I’ll tell you anyway.”

The middle-aged man cleared his throat a few times and opened his mouth. Now that he thought about it, his voice was quite good. You could say he was cut out to be an announcer.

“Murim people aren’t all the same. Their levels vary widely. I’ve heard that the head of a famous White Path family can take dozens of lives with a single gesture. A light kick can send a giant old tree flying, and their shouts shake the heavens.”

    “……”

Yohan was slightly dumbfounded. If they were that strong, they weren’t normal people, were they? They were practically the same as players. Although he couldn’t trust everything this middle-aged man said, he would at least be more knowledgeable than the original owner of the body. Their years of living were different.

“Among such heroes, the best of all is the Murim Alliance Leader.”

“Alliance Leader? Ah, I know that too. I’ve heard of them.”

    It was in his memories.

“If you’ve heard of them, then the story will be faster. That person is even stronger than the Murim people I’ve mentioned so far. From what I heard a long time ago, they split a huge river with just a single sword. And I heard that their personality is also very righteous.”

“Are there no such people in the Dark Path?”

In the original owner’s memory, the Dark Path was as large a force as the White Path.

“Dark Path? There are many fearsome humans in the Dark Path as well. Among them, the one who has been making a name for himself recently is……”

That’s how the middle-aged man’s banter continued for a while. Honestly, it was quite fun, so Yohan poured out all sorts of questions. The middle-aged man seemed to enjoy the conversation with Yohan as well, and answered sincerely.
