Chapter Index

The operation was simple. First of all, we couldn’t not sleep, so while trying to get some sleep, we took turns taking turns looking around the livestock farm around us.

However, there were five people in this party, so if two people woke up, one person would end up alone, so in the end, a problem arose that had to be resolved at least once.

First of all, it is impossible for people to not sleep at all, but they knew that they would attack every night, so they already knew that it was roughly night time.

Therefore, each person was on watch for one hour, but if two people were replaced at the same time, there would be no replacement next time, so the method was to wake up one person at a time in a staggered beat.

Everyone readily agreed, thinking it was a good decision because then they could get as much sleep time as possible and no one would have to stand alone.

Then we had dinner, and then night came and it was time for the operation to begin.

I heard that an inn would rent out a room for free because it was said to be a hero’s party and they had already heard that they were dealing with a crisis here.

That’s how I accepted it, but I decided to use it when everything was done and pitched my tent a little further away from the funeral home.

In fact, I wanted to call right away when it seemed like I was going to set up a tent next to the celebratory song, but I had no choice but to keep my distance because I felt like I wouldn’t be able to sleep properly even for that short period of time due to the peculiar smell of poop coming from the celebratory song.

Anyway, as I settled in and slowly rotated to stand watch, my turn arrived.

Linda came into the tent yawning, and soon it was my turn.

Linda had just come in, and Agnes and Flora were sleeping here, so I knew who would be on watch with me for a moment.

I was awakened by Linda’s touch and pulled myself out of my sleeping bag.

Since I didn’t have to sleep comfortably today, the only thing that came out was my saint’s clothes. As I put on my shoes and tried to steady my stumbling body, there was someone next to me who supported me so I wouldn’t fall.

    “… Kylon.”

    “Did you sleep well?”

Kylon grinned and gave me a smile.

Usually, when I’m with my party mates, I can’t stop talking, so I end up forming a web around my mouth, but when we’re alone, I’m secretly glad that I can talk more easily.

“Yes, it’s nice because it’s just the two of us.”

Kylon’s eyes seemed to widen for a moment as he opened his eyes and expressed his honest feelings.

I tried talking to someone, but they just widened their eyes and didn’t say anything. Now, are the heroines and even Kylon chewing words?

In fact, I knew very well that this time would come. Because it was none other than me. It could be said that it was a miracle in itself that a helpless hikikomori, who couldn’t make a single friend and ended up locking herself in her room, was able to continue the conversation until now.

But when that situation actually happened to me, I felt depressed for some reason and my shoulders slumped.

As I was muttering while touching the little pectorale on my chest, Kylon came next to me and started walking slowly, matching my steps.

    “Hey, Veronica.”

    “… Huh?”

Since Kylon ignored what I said, I wondered if he was in a bad mood or if I had offended him, but he spoke to me carefully.

I thought he would just walk around in circles without talking to me and go to sleep after 30 minutes, but he suddenly started talking to me and I was a little surprised.

Kailon continued, walking a little away from the smelly barn.

“… You said before that you wanted to go home. Right?”

“Yes, I did. why? I don’t really care if Kylon is having a hard time. I said it was difficult before, but I’m also worried that I’m overdoing it.”

I remembered Kailon who had told me before that he couldn’t be a teaching assistant, and I politely expressed my intention to respect Kailon’s opinion.

However, Kailon waved his hand slightly as if he did not want to say that.

“No, no. That’s not it, I’m trying.”

“… I thought it was because I had a hard time resting yesterday. I hope you don’t overdo it. In the end, it was my greed, but I felt sorry that I was putting myself out there for no reason… Okay. Anyway.”

“Uh, I guess something like that happened yesterday, I just wanted to rest. I wanted to make time to talk to you, but the kids didn’t give me any time.”

I nodded, wondering if something like that had happened.

Considering the original balance between Linda and Agnes, this was natural, but now it seemed to be moving towards Kylon as well.

Of course, I couldn’t ask him outright, “Is that kind of relationship with me?” and seemed to just replace it with not giving him a chance.

Anyway, I could easily understand what Kylon meant, so I yawned slightly and glanced up at the sky.

There was a night sky that I could not see in my dark room, and stars that I had only seen in pictures came into view.

    “That’s possible.”

    “Well, jealousy is scary.”

“So? Are you doing well? How are you feeling?”

“… Hmm, I’m working hard as a teaching assistant and I’m getting a lot stronger. I think I’ll have to do more in the future, but even if I fill it all out, the most annoying thing is having to do it periodically because of the favorability I’ve already filled.”

“Instead of getting stronger quickly, you are managing it faster, right?”

    “Yes.”

    “… Then it’s difficult.”

I was worried that I was pushing Kylon too much, so I groaned, but the moment I struggled, Kylon shook his head at my words as if making a fuss.

“No, it’s okay. If something like this happens, I welcome it.”

    “Good. Isn’t it perfect?”

“What is aptitude… Do you think it’s easy to ignore people’s feelings in the first place? Well, it seems like things are going well now that people are starting to listen to me better.”

“Yes, I could see that he was trying to listen carefully. How did you do it?”

    “It’s a secret.”

“Truly, is that considered a trade secret?”

“Well, you don’t need to know.”

“Of course, I have no use for it.”

I didn’t like something, so I opened my eyes and looked at him, and he corrected himself and continued talking.

“I didn’t mean it that way, I just meant that you should learn from only the good things.”

    “… Wow, you speak well.”

    “Wow, it’s cute.”

“… They say I’m cute no matter what I do.”

    “Just because you’re cute.”

    “Huh.”

I let out a sigh, thinking that this was something a super-influencer would say when he was bewitching other women.

No, you originally said it was a woman, but then how many times has the woman shown such behavior in order to prey on the woman?

It’s safe to say that this is a field of talent, so I was impressed.

Some people have a hard time because they don’t have the ability to make friends, but some people try to seduce others with just one word, so I wondered how there could be such a difference in words.

When I was in a state of self-destruction or envious thoughts, Kylon cleared my mind by making a sound by pressing his palms together as if to sort out the situation.

“Anyway, I just wanted you to know that Veronica is steadily building up so she can go home.”

“Thank you for your effort. If you’re going to do this, I hope you enjoy it a lot.”

    “… Enjoy it.”

    “Kylon, didn’t you enjoy it?”

“… You can enjoy it once you’re in that situation, but actually, I didn’t want to be in that situation.”

Kailon was talking back and forth as if making excuses for my sharp questions, but he already said he enjoyed it, so what excuse can he give again?

It’s not like I should be jealous, but it seemed funny to see Kylon making excuses here and there.

“I’m not jealous of you playing with other girls, so why are you so restless?”

He smiled and said that to Kailon, who scratched the back of his head as if embarrassed, then slowly lowered his hand.

Then he slowed down his walking steps, and at the end he just stood there with his shoulders slumped.

At that sight, I stopped walking ahead of Kailon and looked back at him.

    “Kylon?”

    “… Can’t I give it to you?”

I couldn’t hear his mumbling voice, so I unconsciously narrowed my eyebrows and put my head forward.

I thought that the expression on his face that seemed like he didn’t like something was bothering me, so I took a step forward with the idea of at least relieving that feeling.

I stood right in front of Kylon and looked at his face carefully, and he continued talking without taking his eyes off my face.

    “What did you say?”

    “Can’t you just be jealous?”

When I heard those words, I felt dazed.

    Jealousy, that sounds strange.

Isn’t that possible only if I like Kailon rationally and at the same time have a sense of rivalry with Linda and Agnes?

And since I didn’t apply to any of those things, I couldn’t nod my head at what Kylon said.

After a moment of silence, I tried to find something to say several times, but soon lowered my head and came up with one answer.

I recalled a time when I said something and he got so angry that he almost attacked me. And before, there was Kailon who said he liked me.

I go to someone I like and say, “Oh, I’m not interested in you?” I was a little stung to say that, so I raised my eyebrows and said, thinking that this might be the best answer.

    “Well? Make me jealous.”
