Chapter Index

    Grumble!

As I entered the building where the fire was burning fiercely, the world seemed divided into two colors.

    Red flames and black smoke.

It was my first time entering a fire pit that wasn’t an ability I used myself.

It was such a heat that an average person would suffer permanent damage as the moisture in their eyes and respiratory tract evaporated the moment they took a single breath.

Due to the distorted vision caused by the high temperature, the floor and walls were seen rippling like waves.

First, I put on the gas mask I was holding in my hand.

Thanks to my special ability, I don’t take damage from fire, but I don’t think I’ll be immune to the toxic gases generated when the building burns.

There would be nothing more ugly than believing in your abilities and coming in confidently, only to be suffocated by the smoke.

    Phew~

The characteristic heavy breathing sound of a gas mask was heard in my ears.

    “Then let’s go.”

Although a gas mask basically blocks harmful gases, once you start using it, it usually lasts for about 10 minutes.

Since we don’t know how Major Millard usually manages the purification tank, we need to find and rescue Donghyun as quickly as possible.

    Grumble!

I walked up the stairs, shaking off the flames that were sticking to my shirt.

Every time I took a step or two, I reached the next landing.

They said that everyone on the lower floor has already been evacuated, so ignore it and pass by.

We reached the second floor in an instant.

Flames spewed out from a gate that appeared to have failed to close while evacuating.

I was afraid that the rubber material of the gas mask would melt, so I wrapped it with my hand and passed through it.

There was a circular hole in the shape of the body through which the flames passed.

Although it was a fire without any will, it fluttered for a moment as if it was regretful that it had lost me, but then quickly recovered and set the surrounding area on fire.

When I arrived at the third floor, I knocked on the door and shouted.

    Bang bang bang!

“Donghyun! I’m here to save you! If you hear my voice, answer me!”

    “……”

When I knocked hard enough to leave a slight mark on the door and screamed, I heard a small sound coming from inside.

However, it was not clear what was being said because of the explosions and noise from the fire that continued to be heard from the camp.

Still, I confirmed that he was conscious, and it didn’t seem like he was right behind the door, so it was okay.

I took out a rod reinforced with Starlight from my inventory.

    Boom!

When I hit the doorknob hard, the lock came off without any force.

    Jump up!

I put my hand into the empty doorknob hole and opened the front door.

One wall of the living room could already be seen burning.

I walked through the smoke with my hands and approached what appeared to be the master bedroom.

“Donghyun! If you’re here, answer me!”

    “Huhhh…!”

A crying sound came from the blanket bundled up in the corner of the living room.

A small foot was sticking out from underneath it.

When the blanket is removed, a crying child is revealed, with tears and snot running down his face.

A child who appears to be in the lower grades of elementary school.

It seemed like an accident had happened while he was taking a nap and he was so scared that he had been hiding under a blanket.

“Now, don’t worry because my brother is here to save you.”

    “Haaa! Grandmother…!”

Donghyun cried even louder as he looked for his grandmother.

I held it, patted it, and looked around.

The living room was already half burned and smoke was filling the room.

The master bedroom was still fine, but there was no telling when the fire would invade.

The fire was so strong that I climbed the stairs, so it was dangerous to run with Donghyun in my arms.

‘I think it would be safest to jump out the window.’

I thought that if I landed as gently as possible to lessen the impact, Donghyun would be able to escape without getting hurt.

I had already surpassed human limitations thanks to my abilities, and there was no way I could get hurt just by jumping from the third floor.

But if I do that, there is a risk that people will find out that I have special abilities.

Although it is a low-rise building, the 3rd floor is roughly 6 meters high.

If you jumped onto the asphalt floor while carrying a fairly heavy elementary school student and there were no injuries, it was perfect to arouse suspicion.

    “……”

As I was thinking about a solution for a moment, I saw the blanket Donghyun was covering.

    “This is it!”

If falling barefoot is a problem, all you have to do is come up with an excuse.

All you have to do is throw a bunch of large blankets underneath them and ask them to hold them instead of a fall prevention mat.

    “Wait here for a moment.”

I patted Donghyun’s head and opened the closet next to him.

A pile of blankets. I picked out some large, thick items, picked them up, and headed to the living room.

    Grumble!

“Hey, over there! There’s a person over there!”

“It’s real! This is a young man who just entered!”

    “It really arrived!”

“I guess Donghyun is safe too, right?”

When I opened the window, the people watching from below pointed at me and screamed.

    “Minho oppa!”

Jeong Soo-jin’s trembling, watery voice could also be heard, as if she had been crying.

Since time was running out, I threw the blankets I was holding as far away as possible.

    Fluttering~

I took off my gas mask and shouted to the people watching the falling blanket.

“I’m going to jump, so please put a blanket underneath me!”

    “Jumping from there?”

“All my legs will be broken…”

“Young people these days are strong.”

“Oh my, I can’t see it.”

“But the fire is getting bigger and bigger, so it’s better to do something like that…”

I ignored the people who were talking and went back to the living room.

Even if he was not a resident, there was no way Major Millard would remain silent in this situation.

They will prepare it on their own along with the soldiers they brought with them.

    I hugged Donghyun.

I took off the gas mask I was wearing, put it on my face, and wrapped myself in the softest blanket I could.

“Wait a minute, Donghyun. I will help you meet your grandmother soon.”

I went back into the living room while soothing the whimpering child.

I hugged the blanket tightly so it wouldn’t catch fire and headed to the window.

The moment I popped my head out to check if the preparations were complete.

    Kwaang!

The building shook with a loud noise.

Thanks to this, I stumbled for a moment and muttered while holding on to the window frame.

    “Did the gas explode?”

It felt like I had waited too long.

When I looked back, I saw that the fire had already taken over the kitchen.

It was a situation where an explosion could occur at any moment.

I stuck my head out, looked down, and took a deep breath.

    “Huh…!”

As I stepped on the window frame and pulled myself out, flames shot out from behind me.

    Kwaang!

    ***

    “Minho oppa…!”

Jeong Soo-jin stamped her feet as she thought about Lee Min-ho, who had disappeared from the window again.

It was amazing that he went into that fire with his bare body and reached where the child was, but he threw the blanket outside to jump out and escape.

I didn’t know how many lives there were that were so heartbreaking.

Tears naturally flowed down my cheeks as I was worried that something big might happen.

Major Millard, who was watching the scene, said to his soldiers.

“Go and pick up the blankets everyone!”

    “Yes!”

“Are you really going to make me jump?”

Jeong Soo-jin asked in a worried voice, but Major Millard did not change his stern expression.

“The fire has already started to spread to the third floor. If the child is heavy, he or she may get hurt, but in an emergency situation like this, this is the best.”

Following Major Millard’s instructions, the soldiers laid out blankets on the floor in perfect order.

And among them, four men lifted the blanket with the largest area.

This was to reduce the impact of falling as much as possible.

    It was then.

    Kwaang!

    “Aaaah!”

    Jeong Soo-jin screamed and collapsed.

I felt the villa vibrate with a loud noise.

The soldiers, who had stumbled for a moment due to shock, straightened their posture again.

    “……The gas exploded.”

    Major Millard muttered heavily.

Fortunately or unfortunately, the glass had already been shattered in the direction where the soldiers were, so no one was injured by the fragments.

But there was no more time.

As long as there is an impact to the building, an explosion could occur on another floor at any time.

If the soldiers were kept waiting next to the villa, they could also get hurt.

“I have to come out quickly…!”

Did you hear what Major Millard said?

Lee Min-ho stuck his head out to check the landing point and stepped on the window frame.

In her arms, she was holding a child wrapped in a blanket like a cocoon.

    “You shouldn’t get hurt…”

    “I’m worried.”

    “Be careful, young man!”

    “Soldier, lift it higher! High!”

The residents’ voices also rose in response to the dangerous scene.

Lee Min-ho looked back for a moment and jumped down.

And then, an explosion occurred again.

    Kwaang!

People’s eyes widened when they saw Lee Min-ho engulfed in flames spewing out the window.

But for a moment, Lee Min-ho was seen coming out of the flames. He hugged the child and fell straight onto the blanket.

    thud!

    “Ugh!”

In order to primarily reduce the impact, the arms of the soldiers who were holding the blankets high were lowered.

Lee Min-ho landed on the blanket on the floor with a heavy sound.

Soldiers nearby covered him with blankets to extinguish the fire on his clothes. And, first of all, we checked the safety of the child.

    “Hipp…! Hehe…!”

Fortunately, Donghyun, who was wrapped in a blanket, was safe without any injuries.

Jeong Soo-jin, who was watching from a distance, ran over and called Lee Min-ho.

    “Oppa!”

    Crack!

Regardless of whether her hands are burned or not, she pats and shakes off any clothes that have residual embers on them without hesitation.

Lee Min-ho, who was lying dazedly on the blanket, saw this and grabbed Su-jin Jeong’s hand.

Her face was a mess of tears, but she didn’t care and brought her lips to hers.

    Side –

    “I went there.”

    “……!”

Jeong Soo-jin, who looked surprised for a moment, closed her eyes and surrendered herself to him.

    “Wheeik!”

“What a handsome man and woman!”

“What a great young man. I finally did it!”

“Did you say Minho? You are a hero.”

“Please contact me if you ever need to travel to the United States. We’ll treat you to a full course.”

“I can’t believe I played with a guy like this. I have something to brag about to my friends at a drinking party.”

The soldiers and residents around them threw words at each other, but the two people, lost in their own world, did not stop kissing.

    Piyongpiyongㅡ

With the still burning villa in the background, the sounds of fire trucks and ambulances were finally heard approaching.
