Chapter Index

    “Eugene!!!”

The one who came out of the rare calling my name was Arjen with silver hair. Rube or Kaela would have still had time to explain the situation, but unfortunately, the worst case scenario, Arjen, appeared.

    “Ugh…!”

Of course, the worst is from Heltica’s perspective, not mine. As expected, Arjen found Heltica with a very nervous expression on his face and poured magical energy on him without asking any more questions. A white magic projectile, which could commonly be called a magic missile, crashed into Heltica’s body at a speed that the eye could not follow.

    Quang!

    “Kwaaa!!”

Although it was impossible to visually see how injured he was due to the dust, it seemed like he could guess the pain just from the screams he heard. Anyway, Arjen ran over to me at a quick pace and looked at my wounds.

“Eujin, are you okay? Blood, it’s bleeding!”

Arjen woke up to the smell of my blood, but when he saw the blood in person, Arjen’s expression filled with anger once again. When she cast the healing spell, the wound on her finger healed without leaving a scar.

“How dare you talk to my Eugene…!”

Arjen’s eyes, which were glaring at Heltica as if to kill them, were so ferocious that they could have told quite a wild beast to go away. I don’t think I’ll be able to say that I killed myself even if I wake up.

    “Cough! Cough!”

Where the dust from the shock wave had settled, the figure of Heltica could be seen sitting down with its nice-looking armor in a mess.

    “Gwangryong, Arzen…!”

Heltica managed to get back up by supporting herself using her sword as a staff. Anyone who looked at it might have laughed at the sight, wondering if it had become that way with just one hit of magic, but considering that it was hit by none other than ‘Arjen’s magic’ and was holding on to its lifeline, it was an incredible sight.

“Shut up… The only reason you’re still alive is because you’re human.”

I thought it was brave to be alive, but it turns out that Arjen was in the middle of it all. Even during this time, they showed a tendency to be considerate, such as not eating humans and not causing trouble in the city because they were of the same species as me.

“Tsk… Tsk, I guess so. I knew you had been showing pro-human behavior recently… You said you would save humans from meteorites and no longer accept living sacrifices…?”

Heltica sneered at Arjen. I thought it was both crazy and amazing that he would take the brunt of Arjen’s anger and act so aloof even though he knew that his death would come soon.

    “Healing touch.”

He placed his hand on his chest, and then the color returned to Heltica’s face along with a dazzling light. He healed his body with divine power. Just as she was about to question whether she was planning to attack Arjen, Arjen rushed at her in an instant and strangled Heltica.

    “Wow!”

Arjen, who thought he was going to grab her neck and twist it, suddenly raised his other hand and tore off Heltica’s limbs, including the armor. Heltica, whose limbs were blown off in an instant, was so strangled that she could not even scream and fell limp.

“What on earth do you believe in and are so calm? I don’t know. Why do you think you won’t die?”

In other words, it was a kind of death sentence that you would definitely die, but contrary to what he said, Arjen used magic to stop the bleeding from Heltica’s amputation. As a senior who has already had both legs amputated, I would like to comment: Even if you stop the bleeding immediately like that, the pain would be so severe that you could die of shock.

    “Wow! Wow!!”

When Arjen let go of Heltica’s legless body, it fell to the ground. And even to me, the sight of Heltica screaming at the top of her lungs was extremely despairing.

“You could do such a terrible thing to a servant of God! Stella will not forgive you!!”

Judging from the fact that he was able to scream so loudly even though all his limbs had been torn off from his body, we could see that his faith was great. But unfortunately, the name Stella, the god of humans, did not resonate at all with Arjen, the dragon.

“Really? Then why don’t you pray to that arrogant god to make your limbs grow again?”

    “Keuuugh…!”

Arjen got on Heltica’s nerves with his mocking tone. Humans are not crustaceans, and the miracle of a severed limb growing back would be impossible even for a warrior. Whatever it was, there was no change in the fact that they ridiculed the divine power, the power given by God.

After seeing Heltica’s reaction, which did not break his spirit even when his body was damaged, he immediately analyzed what could inflict the greatest damage on him. Looking at it this way, I don’t know whether to say that Arjen is very clever or cunning.

‘No. If you think about it, you can read minds in the first place, right?’

It’s been so long since Arjen stopped reading my inner thoughts that I forgot, but dragons can see into other people’s inner thoughts in the first place. Then, the question she asked Heltica earlier, ‘What do you believe in and are so calm?’ wasn’t because she didn’t know the reason, but because she was asking if there really was such a reason.

I don’t have the talent to read other people’s thoughts, so while I was wondering what the reason was, Heltica explained it in her own words. In fact, rather than an explanation, it was a kind of threatening comment to Arjen, who was really trying to kill him.

“I came here on orders from the Pope. If you kill me like that, do you think the church will remain silent?”

aha. So, it meant that if he killed himself now, all the priests and paladins in the world would turn against Arjen. I wondered if that was all, so I unconsciously walked up to him and asked him back.

    “…is that the end?”

“Is that the end? Are you ignoring the status of the Vatican?”

I’m not ignoring it. After all, I’m just a human being, and if I turn an entire force into an enemy, I’ll be so anxious that I won’t be able to sleep well. The problem is that if you ask whether such a threat will work on Arjen, the only answer you get is, “Well, it will.”

To the dragon Arjen, humans are nothing more or less than prey. There is not much difference from ants except that they can fill the stomach. Since they don’t eat humans now because of me, they can be considered the same as ants, but in any case, unless the hero comes back, they are not a threat to Arjen at all.

And although this poor guy in front of him doesn’t know, the hero has already made an oath to Arjen that he will not cause any harm to him and that he will even provide him with unconditional help. So, of course, from Argen’s point of view, he couldn’t help but feel dizzy, and due to this imbalance of information, Heltika’s mind was becoming complicated for no reason.

“If this is what the Vatican demands, it is only a matter of time before the warrior comes back!”

    “…So what should I do.”

So, that hero can’t touch us.

When we first met, Heltica had the image of a cool paladin with shiny armor and a sweet voice, but now her armor is dented, her limbs are severed, and her voice is full of evil. She is an example of cruelty. was giving

As I was taking the nuance of saying that being a hero was no big deal, Heltica seemed to have realized again that the holy sword did not work on my body, and this time she changed her words and threatened me with something else.

“All humans living on this continent believe in Stella. Do you think you can turn all of humanity into enemies and still get away with it?”

“That might be a little scary. Because we cannot say for certain that there is no human in this wide land other than the hero who can harm Arjen.”

If you think about it that way, it would be right for the Vatican to be scared in the same way, but the fact that someone like that came by when they were sending people to a clear destination called ‘Arjen’s Lair’ in the first place means that there is no means of threatening Arjen other than the warrior. There wasn’t.

“But are you confident? If you die, will all of humanity become Arzen’s enemies? Even so, the leap is too drastic.”

    “What a fool…!”

Perhaps because he was a paladin who spent his entire life praying and practicing hard, he seemed too dark about the world. Or maybe they view humans too positively.

“…If I say it for no reason, it will only hurt my mouth, and to put it bluntly, will all the countries on the continent really listen to you? Do you know what damage you would suffer if you wasted your troops to attack us?”

It’s normal to be harmed by monsters, and you’ll be lucky if you don’t get invaded by another country. Isn’t it like someone who is too absorbed in children’s books to believe that everyone will come together and solve the problem just because there is a common enemy?

“Come to your senses. Maybe if it’s not us but someone like the devil really appears, will we all work together? Probably not. No, that’s why there is a crazy being called a ‘hero’. Isn’t that what you guys are doing, throwing away all the hard work for her and just watching?”

This was information I found out after reading the books in Argen’s Lair. From my point of view, I tried to criticize it as a fact, but to Heltica, it seemed like nothing but blasphemy, and her face was filled with indignation. Still, I decided to say everything I wanted to say because I wanted to just walk down the thorny path.

“And even if it goes as you say, it probably won’t be Verfia, right? As you said earlier, Arjen is a hero who protected the people of the territory from the meteorite that fell on Eletrove.”

I said that and stroked Arjen’s head next to me. Her expression, which had been giving Heltica a cruel look the whole time, immediately changed into a bright smile.

“Or how about this? Did you say Stella? They say the god you believe in is related to the stars. It is said that such a god wanted people to die in droves on the Day of Star Calling and dropped a meteorite, but Arjen saved it. I went to Lord Eletrobe and wrote a newspaper like that on the condition that I would not accept tribute for 10 years.”

If it were the personality of the Count I met, I would probably do a good deal.

“Hmm, I think it’s an amazing headline. The people of Berfia must be very sad that they have been abandoned by God.”

“Shut up! I will not forgive any further blasphemy!”

Seeing him staring at me like he was going to kill me with his limbless body without a proper rebuttal didn’t make me feel very happy. Since Arjen didn’t seem to have any intention of keeping him alive anyway, I turned my head away from him because I thought there was no point in continuing the conversation and it would only make us both uncomfortable.

    “That’s it. Argen.”

Heltica belatedly took another breath, perhaps realizing that my words were her own execution. Before he could say anything again, the sound of torn flesh and blood splattered his ears. What little intoxication remained was completely gone.
