Chapter Index

    ***

After Master left, my life became more relaxed.

Since there is no one calling at night, the sleeping time increases, and since there is no special work to do, there is no need to leave the palace.

I enjoyed the life of an unemployed, wealthy person that every modern person dreams of at least once.

When my back hurts from lying down so much, I take Maehwa and Yeonhwa to the office where the governor works.

The commander-in-chief, who was buried in work, welcomed the refreshments I brought, and we talked about trivial matters while eating the refreshments.

The commander-in-chief did not ask much about me and the teacher, whether it was because the teacher had told the executives, or whether he had excellent management skills.

Whatever the reason, his consideration really stood out.

“Are you serving Lord Sogyo without lacking anything?”

The governor, who was sipping tea, asked Maehwa as if it were an annual event, and Maehwa answered yes.

Yeonhwa was following a flying insect flying outside the window with her eyes, and it was very cute to see her neck moving along with the insect’s movement.

“I feel this every time, but there is a lot of work.”

“It has to be that way since it is all about the religious life.”

When I said that I was tired of seeing the piles of work like the Tower of Babel, the commander-in-chief smiled and chewed a cookie.

The wind flows and the trees sway.

    A rustling sound is heard.

Ah, the forest is shaking in the wind.

Suddenly this thought occurred to me.

“You can hear the wind well when you are here. It makes me feel very calm, especially when I listen to it at night.”

“You can hear the sound especially well at night.”

We rested while chatting about various things and by the time we ran out of refreshments and tea, I told him the purpose of my visit.

“Are you talking about the sunset?”

The commander suddenly looks at me and asks if I am saying something strange.

I asked if I could go outside for a moment to see the sunset that I had seen on the way up to Heukcheongyo with my teacher.

The reason why the sunset suddenly wanted to see it was because Yeonhwa was begging for it.

    – Sogyoju, Sogyoju. Do you have a favorite place in Heukcheongyo?

After walking around several trails, Yeonhwa asked.

Heukcheongyo Bridge was so well maintained that it was hard to believe that it was located on a mountain.

At first, I was curious about how materials like bricks were transported to this mountain.

When I thought about it, I concluded that in a world where there were drones flying in the sky and splitting wood, it would have been very easy to move heavy objects up a mountain.

Anyway, the well-decorated Heukcheongyo Bridge had many places worth seeing.

To begin with, I was an office worker living in a concrete forest. Staying in this green world, everything seemed new and pretty.

That’s why, aren’t there also things about the beauty of nature in classical poetry?

I didn’t understand it very well when I was a student, but after living at Heukcheon Bridge, I began to understand the feelings of the people.

Of all the many places, what would it be the most memorable?

    – The sunset view I saw with my teacher on the way up here was the prettiest.

After hearing these words, Yeonhwa asked that she wanted to see the sunset, so she came to see the governor.

In order to go out of Heukcheongyo Bridge, permission from the governor was required, and above all, because of the Gimunjin installed, it was impossible to go out and come back without the governor accompanying you.

“Although private outings are prohibited as much as possible, I will accompany you if the Lord Sogyo orders.”

” It’s not like I’m asking you to do it… If it’s okay, please give me permission…”

I’m worried that I’m taking up a busy person’s time for no reason.

“No. Now that the leader is not around, it makes sense for the Heukcheongyo Church to follow the will of the leader. Since I have taken care of all the urgent matters right now, there is no problem even if I take half a day off.”

It’s been a while since I thought I should go for a walk.

He smiled kindly and prepared to leave.

After achieving our goal, Yeonhwa and I exchanged glances, and Yeonhwa secretly gave Maehwa a belly bow as if she was grateful.

    Aww, it’s cute.

Since Yeonhwa and I did not learn martial arts, the general gave us a little more time for the round trip.

Trudging, I went back down the way I came up.

Looking to the left, I saw the world unfolding beneath the mountain.

Densely packed trees and sparsely scattered private houses in the distance.

A world where there is silence in a world surrounded by computers, cars, etc.

The Commander-in-Chief was at the end of the line, with his back to him, and Yeonhwa was leading the way and laughing.

Plum blossom was still silent, but seemed to enjoy the walk in its own way, looking at the blooming plants.

When we reached the place where we rested with Master, the sunset was just as the brilliant commander had planned.

    “Wow-”

As if trying to absorb the huge energy of the sunset, Yeonhwa raised her arms in admiration.

It was cute, like looking at a baby bear.

    ‘Isn’t it beautiful?’

As I looked at the sunset that seemed as if it would engulf me at any moment, I felt like I could hear Master’s voice from far away.

“I’ve seen it often, but it’s still a superb view.”

The Commander-in-Chief muttered while looking at the same place as me.

He too was appreciating this mysterious and amazing painting created by nature.

“Master had something to brag about.”

I remember saying that you really wanted to show it to me.

Probably, it was a promise made in the past.

I felt sorry for that because I wasn’t her real student.

Because the disciple who made that promise no longer exists in this world.

    The wind blew again.

This wind came from the bottom of the mountain, up the mountain, and from below, hitting our faces as we watched the sunset.

    “I guess it’s because it’s a mountain. It’s already cold.”

As I shivered in the chilly wind, the Commander-in-Chief opened his closed eyes and looked down the mountain.

His eyes move as if they are chasing something, rather than looking at one place.

It was my first time seeing his eyes wide open, as they were always slightly closed.

Yellow-green eyes are looking at something.

I looked down to gauge the end of the line of sight, but there were only trees. There was nothing I could see.

    “Plum blossom. Attend Lord Sogyo.”

The Commander-in-Chief spoke in a pitchless voice.

    “It’s an attack.”
