Several projects started running simultaneously.

One was a PvP-style FPS based on the Half-Life multiplayer mode, and the other was a “overly realistic FPS” that Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege claimed.

The racing game is also almost finished in planning… but I think we’ll probably start working on it properly after the previously mentioned projects are finished.

In the case of FPS, Tom Clancy’s The Division has a strong influence.

“You need to make strategic plays using cover and terrain. By doing so, you can encourage yourself to act as a perfect combatant, which adds to the ‘immersion’ that this company emphasizes so much. ”

Of course, there were some clashes.

“Why is the recoil of a gun fixed? Of course, the recoil should be random. And when you shoot, why doesn’t the aiming point shake, but the bullets bounce randomly?”

…Actually, it is a reasonable argument from my perspective as well. These parts were actually a barrier to entry in the original world, called a newbie threshing machine, and were also called an outdated system.

Having a strong ego as a creator isn’t necessarily a bad thing in this environment. If you can tame it to some extent in the beginning, you can be sure that it will have enough potential to become a franchise.

In the first place, conflicts of that level are a daily occurrence in game development. When I’m directing, it’s just a repetitive process of implementing what I have in my head, so there’s no chance of conflicts occurring.

Above all, there was feedback arising from the collision.

“The wars and battles of the future will be terrorism and urban warfare. It would be better to reduce these surreal elements and immerse yourself as a special forces agent and a terrorist.”

The feedback from Clash’s mouth through the so-called ‘spoken words’ was reflected quite a lot and laid the foundation for the game. The realistic and heavy gameplay that breaks away from the hyper FPS framework can be considered half his work.

    “Tactical!”

    “Tactical?”

    “Tactical!”

…although the side effects were a bit strange. Can we just let the Tactical Cult spread among the developers and Clash reign as the cult leader?

“Who wants to play airsoft with me this weekend?”

    “Me!”

    “Me too!”

A mountain of people who have completely fallen from tactical control…

“Why is there a soldier here?”

“Don’t worry, it’s a BB gun with colored parts attached.”

Eventually, right before the game’s release, there were even employees who came to work heavily armed. But those three-eyed goggles were kind of cool. But Clash himself said, “I’m not wearing tactical glasses at all.”

Anyway, since there was some foundation, both projects were able to be released as soon as September came.

In fact, there was a lot of controversy over the name when it was released.

“How about putting my name on that side too?”

    “Are you feeling old, sir?”

In the case of the project led by Clash, there was no problem and the Tactical Church believers unanimously agreed to include Tom Clash’s name in the title, but our side was a little different.

Conflict, to put it a bit negatively, was something that some developers who were fed up with interference strongly opposed. In fact, I didn’t oppose it at all, but I thought it would be quite fun.

In the end, Tom Clash’s name was not included when it was released.

That’s how [Counter-Strike] and [Tom Clash’s Rainbow Six] appeared and created huge waves in the gaming world.

…It’s a shame. [Tom Clash’s Counter-Strike]. The name itself resonates.

    ***

    [The Pentagon’s Best Recruitment Tool]

[A work that can only be created when the best screenwriter and the best producer meet]

[A game that lets you experience Clash’s insights as they are]

[We now need intelligence to shoot guns]

Counter-Strike has become so popular that it has turned Half-Life multiplayer users into ‘Thanos’.

Of course, it is a bit different in nature from Half-Life multi, so a direct comparison is meaningless… but it is a highly strategic FPS that is different from the simple system of ‘run around and shoot when you see something’ in Half-Life multi, and it was enough to soak gamers’ brains in dopamine once again.

The intense gunplay and real-time strategic battles that take place as teams try to plant bombs around various spots or prevent them are what make this game so great.

In the case of Rainbow Six, the combination of the novel of the same name that Clash released before the game and Clash’s own name earned the game a lot of praise from the military community and, as expected, achieved enormous sales.

Another thing that was well-received was that, unlike others, they got a license and put real firearms into the game. In fact, at first, they tried to cover their eyes and make up for it with something similar to what they have in reality instead of real firearms, but thanks to the National Rifle Association contacting them first and providing assistance, they were able to get a license with exceptional conditions.

Actually, I don’t feel so good about this. It feels like it’s just promoting guns for no reason and diluting the aversion to guns…

Anyway, it got good reviews, so it must be good. Hmm.

Rainbow Six, as expected from a work directed by Tom Clash, is a work that is infused with his tastes. It is entirely Clash’s credit that it provides an extremely immersive feeling of becoming a member of a multinational counter-terrorism unit, looking at the map and planning the route for the AI agents to move, as if you were a real counter-terrorism unit.

Counter-Strike sold 4 million copies, and Resig sold 3 million copies.

As a result, tactical FPS, which breaks away from the mold of existing classic hyper FPS, has shown its power just like in the original world and established itself as the next-generation trend in the gaming world.

It was natural for developers who had some time off to turn their office into a PC room.

“One on the CT mid side!”

“Three people are coming into A-long! Look this way!”

    “One cut!”

    “I’m dead!”

If anyone listens to that briefing alone, they’ll obviously think it’s a mock special forces operation.

When making the map, I gave each spot a name for balancing, so the calls were very familiar. It had been a long time since I had played a game in the original world, so the map structure was vague, so it would be no exaggeration to say that most of the game development period was spent on balancing the map, so it would not be an exaggeration to say that most developers were completely familiar with the map structure.

Balancing and creating variables to prevent the game from becoming monotonous, such as proper cover, route management based on starting points for each faction, and route options, was a very difficult task. It was to the point where I realized that it wasn’t for nothing that the map is called one of the core elements of the FPS play experience.

As a result, the map that was created with so much effort succeeded in gaining the status of a so-called ‘national map’, accounting for nearly 50% of map pick rates. It even led to a surge in the number of people who only play this map.

Anyway, during the break, the developers were having fun playing games at the company.

    Of course I couldn’t rest!

This was because I wanted to include real cars in the racing game I mentioned earlier, so I had to run around getting a license.

It was because of my and some of my coworkers’ greed that we went to work even during our break. Because of the heavy tea fanatics, it was a bit much to ask everyone to run together during our break…

Fortunately, because we had a good name, obtaining the license wasn’t that difficult.

Thanks to the Rifle Association, we now have quantifiable data on how much advertising and sales increased through licensing.

In fact, there are cases where they approach us first. Automobile companies, who heard the news from somewhere, make proposals, saying, “”Would you like to feature our cars?””

Seeing even more powerful companies rushing in like this makes me feel satisfied. How many times have we been in such a perfect position?

It is quite satisfying to feel that games are no longer being ignored, but have become major enough that even large corporations are rushing to promote them.

“Can I come and negotiate with this company?”

“… It’s not like it won’t work, but aren’t you just trying to satisfy your own selfish desires?”

“Actually, I heard a new car is coming out this time, and I really want to see it with my own eyes!!!!”

    Well then, that’s right.

“Come with me. If I send you alone, I think you’ll give me everything.”

Fortunately, the negotiation ended well. Although I had a hard time preventing the developers who went along from going wild, the company looked favorably on me, saying that I showed passion.

    “I got another email, boss.”

    “Eww… Again?”

I brought up the idea of getting a license for nothing. If I had known I would have to go around like this, I wouldn’t have brought it up. Should I create a department that specializes in marketing and external relations?

    “Let’s see…Hyun O Automobile Group?”

[We are contacting you about promotions using our product license]

The content is, as usual, about whether we can join in. I heard that a new car is coming out this time, and maybe because it’s a Korean company, I feel a strange affection for it. Of course, I don’t know much about the car itself.

    “Let’s see… The place of discussion…”

No matter how I look at it, I can’t get used to the American address. I can’t recognize anything except that it’s New York…

“Oh, I see the address is where Bank of America is? I’m going there that day to discuss something. Do you want to come with me?”

Just as I was about to search for the address on the Internet, a PayPal maintenance employee came and helped me.

    “Okay.”

I have a strong feeling that I’m missing something, but it must be my imagination.
