by adminEven though I received recommendations, I didn’t plan on purchasing right away.
The reason is simple.
There was a possibility of revealing my identity.
Since I didn’t know how many people were in the gallery, there could be someone checking the posts here and trying to track me down.
So, it was safer to just gather enough information and look for a house privately.
I wasn’t foolish enough to expose my identity on the gallery just to find a safe place to live.
With that in mind, I checked the comments on the post.
[Author: Seriously a loser]
[Title: Thinking of buying a house in Baruk this time, any recommendations?]
[Content: How much is appropriate for a man living alone?]
L: If you’re living alone in Baruk, you probably won’t need a lot of money.
ㄴ: True.
ㄴ: It’s not like other places, Baruk is quite expensive in terms of housing prices.
ㄴ: Only rich guys are commenting here…
L: You’ll probably need at least a platinum coin for a decent house.
ㄴ: Really? That much?
ㄴ: Yeah, that’s about right. Baruk is the second most popular place after Lucelton, so you’ll need at least a platinum coin for a decent house.
L: When did you change your nickname, seriously lol
ㄴ: Yeah, the nickname is seriously a loser, just looking for a house, pathetic lol
ㄴ: It’s all fake anyway, don’t envy it.
ㄴ: I searched for the author’s previous posts, doesn’t seem fake? They’ve been progressing in order.
“Hmm…”
It definitely seemed like a lot of money would be needed to buy a decent house in Baruk.
To think you’d need a platinum coin.
If a platinum coin was worth about 100 million, it was easier to understand.
And right now, I didn’t have that kind of money.
Of course, I hadn’t checked yet, but the fact remained that I had less than a platinum coin.
So, I pondered.
Should I continue living in this inn, saving up diligently to buy a decent house, or should I buy a cheaper house and renovate it myself?
The decision didn’t take long.
The options were already set.
“I guess I’ll go with renovating the house.”
It seemed much more convenient to renovate the house.
It wouldn’t cost much to renovate a house.
It was just the location that made the prices vary.
Thinking like that, I gathered my important belongings in the room and headed to the Adventurer’s Guild.
I won’t use teleportation.
I had paid a fine earlier, and it was a huge waste.
I had to pay almost half of the amount in gold as a penalty for using demon magic.
So, I decided to refrain from using teleportation from now on and used magic.
[Acceleration]
[Lightening]
[Frost]
Frost wasn’t a magic for speed, but it was because of the current weather.
Since I always wore a robe, not using this magic made me feel very hot.
One could say that I could just take off the robe, but showing my face was a bit burdensome for me.
There were also things my master had said.
So, I planned not to reveal my face unless absolutely necessary.
“And it also feels good this way.”
Turning my robe inside out and using the Frost magic was like covering yourself with a blanket and turning on the air conditioner in summer.
It felt quite nice.
With that thought in mind, I quickly ran to the Adventurer’s Guild.
“Oh, hello.”
As I entered the Adventurer’s Guild, Elysie, with her golden curly hair, greeted me warmly.
I had seen her before, but there was something welcoming about her.
So, I shook her hand in greeting and approached Elysie.
I had something to ask her.
“Could you tell me if there’s a decent house around here? I’m looking to buy one.”
I wasn’t very knowledgeable about these things.
So, it was easier for me to seek help.
I couldn’t ask the gallery, so I asked Esilly, who seemed to know the area well.
Esilly seemed like she would know the area well.
Thinking that, I asked her, and she immediately gave me an answer.
“Well.. How much are you thinking of? Depending on the amount, the places you can live in vary a lot.”
Since I didn’t really need much money for my daily life, I was willing to pay almost any amount.
So, I cautiously told Esilly the amount I was considering.
Upon hearing it, Esilly’s face darkened abruptly.
“Well.. With that price, it’s difficult to find a decent place.. Just a moment.”
Saying that, Esilly brought some documents from a distance and began to check something.
Although I could have checked what was in them if I wanted to, I didn’t want to do such a thing towards someone who was being kind to me.
Thinking that, a while later.
“Oh, I know of a decent place.. But people tend to avoid it a bit because they say ghosts come out of it. So, not many people come around.”
“Oh.. Is it good?”
This was genuine.
The fact that ghosts come out didn’t really matter to me.
I wasn’t weak enough to be afraid of ghosts.
So, I told Esilly.
“I think it’s okay for me. How can I purchase it then? I’m curious if there’s a place that handles it separately.”
“Oh? I’m in charge of that. I handle real estate-related matters at the Adventurer’s Guild.”
Ah, that’s why.
Esilly looked tired for a reason.
She was always tired from dealing with adventurer-related matters and real estate matters all day long.
Thinking that, I felt a bit sympathetic.
I also thought I should do well.
“Can I see the house then? That’s what I’m most curious about.”
“Oh, just a moment.”
Esilly asked for my understanding, then got up from her seat, brought a sign, placed it in front of the counter, and approached me.
[Out of office!]
Following Esilly’s guidance, I went to the house where ghosts were said to appear.
“Here it is.”
“…Is it good?”
Although I would have to empty all my money to purchase such a house, it was a decent house considering that.
I didn’t know it would be this good.
Thinking it was impressive, I said to Esilly.
“Is it only this price here? It’s hard to believe.”
“Ah.. It’s because ghosts come out here. Other than that, it would be a much more expensive house.”
The location was quite decent.
It didn’t feel extremely good, but it was in a reasonably safe place.
However, according to the conversation I had with Esilly while walking here, a house like this at this price seemed unreasonable.
That made me a bit uneasy.
Why would they sell the house at such a low price just because a ghost appeared?
“Then let’s go inside.”
Although Esilly spoke leisurely, she couldn’t hide her stiff face, showing that she was nervous too.
Esilly must be scared of ghosts as well.
It was inevitable.
Ordinary people might fear mercenaries, but the scariest thing for them would be ghosts.
Dealing with them was difficult.
While mercenaries could handle situations to some extent, dealing with ghosts was even more challenging.
If we assume that there really are ghosts.
Thinking that, I unfolded my spell.
[Barrier]
[Benji’s Shield]
And I infused mana.
It was a double protection shield that could protect both physically and magically.
Of course, the barrier could protect against magical attacks, but it was difficult to compare it to a shield that solely defended against magic.
“Since I’ve put up a protective barrier, let’s enter slowly, just in case.”
“Ah… thank you.”
Easily seemed somewhat flustered, perhaps due to her mood.
With that thought in mind, I cautiously entered the house.
Inside, I was greeted by a very nice interior.
It was a bit spacious for a man living alone, but considering my status as a magician, it was just the right size.
I could see that there was also a space underground.
“Hmm, it doesn’t seem like there are any ghosts around, right?”
“Yeah… that’s strange…”
Easily tilted her head as if she found it really strange, but I couldn’t feel anything at all.
I even used detection magic just in case, but all I could sense were small bugs at most.
So, I completed the contract with Easily right there.
“Then, please sign here.”
“Ah, okay.”
[Purification]
I cleaned up the surroundings with magic, sat down on a chair, and completed the signature.
Then, I handed the contract fee to Easily.
“Try living here for a day, and if you feel anything strange, you can cancel the contract by paying half of the fee, so please keep that in mind.”
“Ah, thank you.”
And so, Easily took the contract fee and left.
And a little while later.
Swoosh-
A strange sound coming from the house.
It sent a slight shiver down my spine.
