Chapter Index

    “You’re finally here, babies!”

An old woman, presumed to be a cat mom, shouted from the top of the wooden watchtower.

Well, from her point of view as she was very old, it seemed like we were all babies.

She was coming down the tower quickly as if we didn’t even need to come up.

Meanwhile, I was still on Silas’ head…

Before I knew it, the cat mom’s other cats began to flock around.

    “Hello!”

    “Ugh!”

I was startled by another cat suddenly licking my back while stroking on Sheila’s head.

    “What, what?!”

“This is my younger brother Ramon.”

    “No, but it’s not one?”

Although there was only one brother that Silas introduced, the cats that approached me were not just one.

    “Ugh!”

Every time Scylla introduced the name of one of the animals, they started licking me in the form of a baby bat.

    “It stings!”

Was a cat’s tongue always this rough?

I was so dizzy that I felt like I was going to lose my mind due to the violence being hurled at me from all directions.

    “Stop.”

It was Astoby and Sylvia who helped me.

Astoby’s thick green hands freed me from my dampness and passed them onto Sylvia’s hands.

    “….”

    “Chris, are you okay?”

    “….”

    I didn’t say anything.

To be surrounded and licked by countless talking cats.

It was a very scary experience, but it wasn’t bad.

“What is that guy? Have you started raising pets?”

    “It’s not like that. Olivia.”

Silver Side’s cat mom soon came down to the same ground as us and spoke to us.

According to Sylvia, her name was Olivia.

    “Our cuties!”

She hugged the guys who had mercilessly licked me just moments ago.

    ‘The relationship seems good.’

“Olivia. I heard the situation is serious.”

“Ah, it has calmed down a bit now.”

Cat Mom spoke to Sylvia as if what she saw was not everything.

    “Phew….”

    “So who is that guy?”

I sighed for a moment and returned to my normal self in response to Cat Mom’s question.

“This is an employee of our office.”

    The introduction is somewhat boring.

    “And it’s also a mascot.”

Hmm… I think it would have been better not to say that.

    “You’ve changed a lot too.”

    “It just so happened.”

While the two people maintained an atmosphere of mutual communication, Cat Mom’s cats began playing tricks on our office solvers.

Aside from Johnny and Datihi, the three of them – Badek, Astoby, and David – each loved them in their own way.

“But what about Ilseong and the others?”

“Ilsung said he will be a little later as he just returned to the city.”

“Anyway. I still haven’t given up on finding a teacher.”

“Well, there are some things you can’t give up.”

Sylvia’s response to the cat mom sounded as if she had something like that.

Well, that doesn’t mean I know everything about Sylvia.

I thought it would be better to ask Adem in the office later.

Information is information, but it was Adem who told David’s story, and it seemed perfect for hearing someone else’s dark story.

    “So where is the rat?”

“I also have an impatient personality.”

Astoby, who was holding a bunch of cats in his arms, approached the cat mom and said.

Cat Mom told us to follow her.

Johnny and Datihi, who showed less interest in the cats, were the first to move, followed by other solvers, including Sylvia and me.

    ***

The place we arrived at was…

It was the entrance to a sewer not far from Cat Mom’s headquarters.

Maguspol not only has manholes, but also a large sewer system beneath the city, just like Paris, France.

    “Ugh, what is this smell?”

“Of course it smells like sewage.”

I quickly grabbed my nose at the unpleasant smell that assaulted my nose.

The same was true for David, who answered me as if it was obvious.

“That’s not important. Look over there.”

    “…Huh?”

Inside the sewer pointed out by Cat Mom.

There was a thick iron bar between that space and us.

However, through the faint light coming from outside towards the sewer, I could tell that something was moving quickly inside.

    “What, are they all rats?”

Cat Mom nodded to Johnny’s question.

It was hard to see, but something was moving at high speed.

A very unpleasant thing was the feeling of looking at a dirty river.

“They attacked us a few days ago, but now they are heading north through the nearby sewers.”

“The north is where the rats are running rampant.”

What, then, rather than stopping the swarm of rats flowing north from the Silver Side… should we catch the swarm of rats flowing north from the Silver Side?

    “How do you catch that?”

Even if there were a lot of them, it didn’t seem like it would be too much of a hassle.

I think it would be ambiguous even if we borrowed the power of the guns that Johnny, Badek, and David use.

I thought there might be something that could kill them all at once.

“Olivia? There has been a change in the content of the request.”

“Okay, so we need to be clear about that.”

Our role was to defend Cat Mom’s home base and stop the rat swarm heading north.

“But then, isn’t there an immediate problem on the grandmother’s side?”

“Do you know when those guys will change again?”

In response to my question, she spoke as if she couldn’t be reassured.

He may be a cautious person, but he lost his cats, who were like his children, to a swarm of rats, so it’s understandable that he would react that way.

    “Then let’s divide the people.”

Sylvia began to define the roles of the office fixers.

“First, let’s divide into two teams.”

“Let’s say one team is in charge of sewerage. What about the other team?”

“I think we need to guard Olivia’s base to make sure no other rats come in from the north.”

When Datihi, the lizardman, asked while licking his tongue, Sylvia answered in detail.

“It would be better if you help me strengthen my defense posture.”

Cat Mom was drinking one more drink there.

“Then, for now, I’m on the sewer team!”

    I volunteered before anyone else.

    “I have a good idea.”

    “…What is it?”

    Sylvia looked uneasy somehow.

really! You don’t have to make that face.

I glared at the swarm of rats running quickly north inside the sewer.

Then, the mosquitoes that gradually began to gather around them formed a belt.

    -Wheee!

    -Oooooh!

The noise was reminiscent of several weed mowers running, so much so that I unconsciously covered my ears.

    “What is all this?!”

    “Originally, Chris can control mosquitoes.”

    “What?!”

David’s eyes seemed to be burning after hearing Sylvia’s explanation.

It seems like I’ve been suffering from mosquitoes a lot in the meantime. I stopped only after finding out that David had a sad story… Is it obvious?

“So you’re going to kill a swarm of rats with these mosquitoes?!”

    “Yes!”

    ***

of course! I nodded once in response to Cat Mom’s question, then stretched out my right hand and pointed into the sewer.

Then the mosquitoes moved in perfect order, like soldiers who had received instructions from their superiors.

As a swarm of rats followed by a swarm of mosquitoes infiltrated the sewer, strange noises began to be heard from inside.

    “I can’t see anything.”

“First of all, we need something to light up the inside of the sewer.”

Johnny and David said securing visibility was their priority.

Sylvia asked Cat Mom for the items the two wanted.

“I’m telling you this in advance, but if you look down on someone just because they’re a rat, you’ll be in big trouble.”

“Why? Even though there are a lot of numbers, it’s just a mouse.”

In response to my answer, Cat Mom said that there are some that are much bigger than an average mouse with both hands.

“Then… I guess it won’t be possible with Chris. In case of emergency, it would be better for Johnny, Badek, and David to deal with the big rats from a distance.”

    “Okay.”

    Sylvia nodded at Johnny’s answer.

He then assigned himself, Astobi, and Datihi to the roles of protecting Cat Mom’s home base, monitoring the north, and strengthening the defense posture.

I don’t know about Astobi, a muscular orc, and Datich, a bulky lizardman…

Sylvia didn’t seem suited to such a task.

    “Silvia, are you okay?”

“Of course. You don’t have to worry.”

After saying that, I couldn’t do anything more.

    “Kids!”

    “Yes, mother!”

The cat mom signaled to her children by clapping her hands as if to tell them not to worry.

Then, several cats instantly changed into beastmen.

The appearance of a water-human painting tends to vary depending on the individual.

Some dogs, like Ilseong, even have an animal-like head shape…

In some cases, like Scylla in front of me, people only had animal ears on their heads.

    “Wow!”

With an exclamation, I turned into a baby bat and clung to the beast-like Scylla.

    “Sleep, wait a minute! Chris!”

    “Stay still!”

I stuck to Sheila’s face and didn’t fall off.

Now that I think about it, Silas had licked me a lot with his brothers earlier.

So, this is revenge from before!

Of course… I felt like I was a facehugger as I continued to cling to Scylla’s face, so I just fell off.

Even though I just climbed over my head and settled down.

“What, then Silla is on a different team than me?”

    “Wouldn’t it be so?”

Since Scylla, who had orange fur, became a beast, her hair and cat ears were also orange.

She was a little taller than my real self, and looked more like a lady than a girl.

    “Still, it’s really cute.”

    “Isn’t Chris cuter?”

Silas reacted as if she was wondering who would say something when she saw me in the form of a baby bat.

    ***

A rough team was decided, and everyone on site moved to perform their assigned roles.

I was able to rest comfortably because the swarm of mosquitoes was doing my work for me.

Thanks to this, I was able to move the heads of Silviana Astoby, Sila, and Cat Mom.

“But are those mosquitoes really effective?”

“Well… Even if you get hit here and there by rats, shouldn’t all you have to do is just stick around and suck blood?”

And the place is no other place, it’s the sewer!

The mosquitoes hatch their eggs with the blood they suck from the rats, and the bugs become mosquitoes again… In theory, it was a perfect plan in which the number on one side would continue to increase and the number on the other side would decrease.

When I explained this part, the cat mom didn’t argue any further.

No matter how much the rat swarm is moving north, there are bound to be areas it does not pass through.

It would be beneficial for us if mosquitoes multiplied in such places.

A little while later, Johnny and David brought a searchlight from a nearby spot that Cat Mom had told them about.

“What, did you buy a searchlight?!”

“No, I borrowed it temporarily through Cat Mom’s connections.”

David’s eyes were still shining as he answered me.

Ah, I guess this will last a long time.

“Hurry up and turn it on!”

    “Sister, wait a moment.”

I climbed over David’s head and said to Johnny.

Why did it go up above David’s head? It was because at least I couldn’t feel David’s gaze.

Meanwhile, Johnny said he would understand and quickly installed a searchlight near the iron bars at the entrance to the sewer.

    “Okay, it’s done.”

    “Wait a minute.”

I started preparing for another swarm of mosquitoes just in case.

The searchlight that Johnny and David had installed began to emit bright light, like the searchlight of a lighthouse.

As soon as it illuminated the inside of the sewer entrance… mice with red eyes were seen quickly heading north.

    “Input!”

Malaria call! I brought a new swarm of mosquitoes inside.

Then, I saw mosquitoes being crushed by the endless movement of the swarm of rats, but I also saw mosquitoes sticking to the heads, backs, and waists of the rats, sucking their blood.

Occasionally, a dead rat with its blood sucked was seen nearby.

    “Huh?!”

And moment. A huge rat passed by.

I guess that guy was the bigger than average rat that Cat Mom was talking about just now, right?

“Johnny, David. Both of you, get ready quickly.”

    “Okay, wait a moment, sister.”

After installing the searchlight, Johnny returned to the sewer entrance, this time carrying a minigun.

Badek, who was nearby, joined in, and the firearms he and David used were closer to rifles.

    “I also have a pistol.”

“Okay, you just focus on the mosquitoes.”

    “Is that so?”

I quickly gave up on Johnny’s answer.

Doing your part at the right time and in the right place! That was the best virtue for a problem solver.

    It’s not because it’s annoying!
