    Episode 27 – Performance Evaluation 8 –

“What~ What! Why is this canceled?”

The Academy Facility Management Bureau is in charge of all magic equipment and facilities at the Academy, including performance evaluations.

A bewildered voice came from the mouth of the man who was the manager there.

A sudden crackling sound was heard and the magic was canceled.

A situation where it is clear that something has gone wrong.

Managers scolded employees because they did not know what would happen if the problem was not resolved.

“Identify the problem quickly! What on earth did you guys do that makes the magic circle not work!”

Managers and employees in charge of this performance evaluation quickly identified the problem.

The staff investigated various spaces to determine the cause of the problem.

We have reached the root of the problem created by Abraxas.

    “I… Administrator… ?”

    “Yes. Did you find it?”

    “Yes. I found it. however… ”

    “But what.”

“The magic circle is completely broken?”

    “What… ?”

The words that came out of the employee’s mouth were enough to embarrass the manager.

The magic circle was broken. This means that the magic circle placed on the island was destroyed.

The reason why such a wide-ranging spatial transfer magic could be used without a wizard was because a large-scale magic circle that could be calculated in advance was drawn on the island.

‘The magic circle will never be broken by an employee’s mistake. If it breaks accidentally, it cannot be used as a magic circle. That means… It means that someone destroyed it on purpose… ‘

As this thought occurred to the manager, one additional word came to mind.

‘The rider who took this performance evaluation was called the golden rider… Since they didn’t reveal all the technology, one of them could be the culprit.

Because most of those 10 people are just hanging out.

Abraxas Youngsik also had the lowest score… There is an internal assessment that although he doesn’t put in much effort, his talent is high.’

Some of them already have abilities superior to those of the teaching assistants. It wasn’t unusual for them to destroy the magic circle if they were hiding something.

‘But why on earth…? ? If you can break that, you’ll be able to rank high among 10 people, right?

No matter how much I think about it, it doesn’t make sense for a cadet to destroy it. I may have the ability to destroy it, but there is no reason to destroy it… It couldn’t have been broken from outside… !’

Then the worst assumption came to mind. When the magic circle is destroyed by an external entity.

Even if you are a member of the Imperial Academy faculty, you cannot go to the island and rescue all the students at once.

If it is truly an intervention from an external force, it must be dealt with quickly.

With that in mind, the manager quickly gave an order.

“First, everyone is eliminated. Understand the situation. Even if a problem occurs, it won’t be a problem if you handle it according to the manual! If intervention by external forces is the problem, performance evaluation is not important!”

    “Okay.”

However, even if it was not the intervention of an external force, it was clear that this was not an ordinary situation.

The administrator decided to contact faculty members who were directly observing the incident.

“First, contact other professors. Since you are watching it yourself, you will know what has changed.”

    “Well, that’s… ”

    “What? What’s the problem again?”

    “Contact has already arrived.”

“Really? Then open it quickly. What are you doing!”

An employee who quickly opens the contact form at the urging of a manager.

The scene the manager saw was an island that had become an empty plain.

The manager who saw that was dumbfounded and said to himself.

    “That… What is the magic world of work… It’s completely black… ”

All that remained there was black ash. White, gray and black, like an erupting volcano. Only these three gray colors were present on the screen.

There were no structures left on the ground, only the heights depending on the difference in elevation of the terrain.

The river also became a moving land made of black ash instead of flowing blue water.

A situation where most of the vegetation on an island literally evaporated. As he watched such a cruel scene, another possibility began to appear in his mind.

‘This can’t be… Did it all end up like this because it burned down? ?’

I don’t know who started the fire, but the magic circle disappeared as it burned.

Of course, the magic circle did not break down to that extent, but it was certain that a forest fire of that magnitude had occurred.

‘First of all, according to the information, not all students have magic tools activated… ‘

Fortunately, all the cadets were safe, but the question was still not resolved.

Still, I had to report it.

The manager decided to write a report because he thought it was most likely that the magic circle was destroyed due to a fire.

While the manager’s report was being written.

    “Me, manager.”

    “Why?”

“Faculty members say they have identified the cause.”

An employee sent information that caught the manager’s attention.

    “What!? What is the cause?”

    “Well, that’s… ”

    “Don’t hesitate and speak quickly.”

“Cadet Abraxas Mentutihotep… They say you broke it?”

    “What… … ?”

And the manager who heard that was embarrassed once again.

Cadet Abraxas Mentutihotep destroyed it. This is probably true as it is a statement made by professors who were directly observing the situation.

    But why? And how?

    “… Does that make sense?”

    “I don’t know?”

The Academy Facilities Management Bureau’s doubts grew deeper and deeper.

    =========

The Facility Management Bureau was in a confused situation because they were not properly informed of the situation.

It wasn’t much different for the professors who saw the situation directly using magic tools for communication.

No, on the contrary, I was even more confused because I watched everything myself.

Wouldn’t they cause a riot while wearing clothes with the emperor’s picture on them?

Wouldn’t it suddenly cause a large-scale arson and disable the island’s own fire extinguishing system?

Even during the resulting large-scale forest fire, the cadets were thrown into the flames.

I don’t know how they did it, but they broke the magic circle and eliminated everyone.

‘All the other cadets are confused, but even though one of his arms is missing, he smiles and mutters, “It’s all according to plan.”…

Considering that an arm is missing, the culprit is Abraxas. But how? Did you use some black magic?’

Maximilian kept thinking about how Abraxas broke the magic circle.

Finding that motivation wasn’t that hard. Because Abraxas wants to be expelled for some reason.

However, Maximilian only understood the motive for the action, but it was difficult to determine the cause.

‘Warlock magicians are usually frowned upon, so are you trying to worsen public opinion by learning black magic? But you probably know best that black magic itself is not illegal.

‘Who can say anything about the fact that I did not sacrifice another cadet as a human being, but rather my own body?’

Of course, Maximilian had no intention of chasing Abraxas out just because he used black magic.

And that would be the same for the president as well.

‘But there are still many things I don’t understand.’

He still had many remaining questions.

‘No matter how the magic circle was prepared in advance and destroyed, there are still many questions. The biggest thing. ‘How on earth did they make the windmill work?’

Maximilian could not find the correct answer as to what principle made the object work.

All items can cause problems if used immediately.

If you use a kitchen knife well, you can make delicious dishes.

Because if you handle it incorrectly, you can hurt yourself.

Therefore, permission to use the equipment is given only if you understand the equipment.

This basically meant that the person who found the piece first would have to operate it.

It was also intended to render the object unusable as soon as it was discovered.

You can also gain more culture.

‘You need to know what a windmill is, but you need to know what the old church means. You need to know what role the stone tower played in making primitive musket bullets to tell you how to use it… ‘

Abraxas casually walked closer and activated it.

Even if the operation was a coincidence, the understanding could never have happened by chance.

‘Did you know about windmills…? ? How on earth? ‘Because the pieces change all the time, you won’t be able to hear it from your seniors.’

Windmills are already an old technology that disappeared over 1,000 years ago.

Even then, it was actually only used in the countryside, not in cities where magic could be used.

‘I just can’t figure it out.’

    Maximilian swallowed those thoughts.

I started discussing this performance evaluation report card with professors.

“So, how should we handle this performance evaluation grade? It may have been a mistake on the part of the department, but it is presumed that the reason the space transfer magic circle was broken was because of Cadet Abraxas… ”

“Well, what Cadet Abraxas did this time is not normal. This time, it clearly caused material damage to the Academy.

From the cost of restoring that island to the cost of restoring the magic circle. Moreover, they even played with His Majesty’s royal portrait! Of course there must be punishment!”

“But… The clause states that the Academy will fully compensate for the costs incurred due to such injuries.

If we are asked to compensate in this case… At the next performance evaluation, cadets may have to reimburse more… ”

“We are indeed fighting over something very different. Since everyone was eliminated, wouldn’t it be okay to make them joint winners and give cadet Abraxas responsibility separately? It’s not that the two are incompatible. You can do both!”

“In that case, even more problems will arise, Professor Sylvania. In fact, this is a cadet who caused damage close to terrorism.

What would happen if such a cadet ranked first in the performance evaluation? This case may not result in top-tier grades, but if this trend continues… The Academy’s honor… !”

Everyone has a point. First of all, since it was Abraxas who did something within the academy’s rules, if given, everyone should be a joint winner.

However, it is clear that his actions crossed the line. As a result, property damage also occurred, so the professors had no choice but to worry.

“Then, I will contact the president about this matter. This is a matter for the president to decide. Since the property damage is quite significant, it would be appropriate to present an agenda item to the president.”

Maximilian, who was close to the leader of the professors, sent a recording of related information to the president.

A little later, I received information from the president.

[There is a way to resolve property damage, so please stop. Regarding grades… ]

Other professors who checked the letter said:

“Then let’s keep going like this.”

“What… yes. Of course. Because the president decides.”

In this way, the performance evaluation scores of first-year academy cadets were decided.

    =========

The situation came back after all the performance evaluations were completed. The surrounding cadets were all amazed when they heard the related story.

I had many predictions about who would win, but the results were invalid. Even if you’re like me, you’ll find it very interesting.

This story also spread to seniors, and various stories were being circulated during break time.

“I heard that at the end of this performance evaluation, there was a problem with the space transfer magic circle, so everyone was eliminated.”

“He said yes. I’m not sure what the problem is, but it’s said to be the only space transfer magic circle error that occurred at Imperial Academy.”

Some children from high-ranking families were conversing while wearing clothes that were considered cultured and inappropriate for their age.

“So what will the results be like this time? In fact, 1st through 10th place are eliminated at the same time.”

“Wouldn’t the last person confirmed to be eliminated be in first place?”

“Then there will be severe backlash. Is it just a tie for 1st place, or since it is a death match anyway, why not collect them separately and fight again?”

    “That is the most likely.”

While chatting with friends, we are discussing grades on performance evaluations.

In the meantime, I was the one who was most nervous.

What really happened? What kind of disciplinary action will the president impose on me?

Or is there really some other way?

Amid such tension, people began to gather where grades were born.

A crackling sound is heard from the electronic display board made of magic tools.

It was a signal that the grades were being printed.

    “Coming out!”

Some cadets told us whether or not the electronic display was printed in case they missed it.

And the results began to be seen by everyone.

The grades appear on the screen, and you slowly look at them from the bottom.
