by adminAs we returned to the adventurer’s guild, there was a woman sitting on a chair, cleaning her dagger.
It was Violet.
I thought I was early compared to the meeting time, but she was even earlier than me.
Thinking it was quite impressive, I naturally sat across from Violet.
Violet, after putting down the dagger she was cleaning, started talking.
“Are you going to keep wearing that robe? I’m curious about your face underneath.”
“Ah… My master told me to wear it. So, I’ll probably keep wearing it most of the time.”
“Hmm… I want to see your face at least once.”
Well, there was no reason not to show my face, so I took off the robe I was wearing backwards and showed my face.
“Hmm, it’s decent enough to look at.”
“Oh, really? Thank you.”
I had never heard anyone say that my face was handsome, so I was relieved.
If someone were to say that my face looked strange, it would have hurt a bit.
Feeling relieved, I put the robe back on.
Violet seemed a bit disappointed, but it was probably just her mood.
We continued to chat a bit more.
“So, how do you attack with that dagger? That’s what I’m most curious about.”
“Well… Is there anything special? Just get close in an instant-”
Violet said that and suddenly brought the knife to my neck.
Of course, I always had a barrier up, so the knife bounced off due to the repulsion.
“That’s how you do it.”
“Oh… That’s really amazing. I don’t think I can do that.”
“Is that what you call deflecting my knife in an instant?”
“Haha…”
I always kept the barrier up.
You never know what might happen.
It was a bit tiring, but it didn’t require too much effort.
You could say it just required a bit of focus.
“But when will the others come? It seems like it takes a long time to prepare.”
“We’re the odd ones for coming early. Most adventurers don’t keep their promises.”
It did seem like there was such a tendency.
We had agreed to meet for lunch, but only Violet and I had shown up so far.
No wonder adventurers get a bad reputation.
Thinking that, I created a drinking party in the air and played around, and the other two quietly came to the meeting place.
I wanted to say something, but I decided not to.
They were people I would probably only see once.
“Alright, let’s get going. I took a bit longer to prepare, sorry for being late.”
“Oh, it’s okay. I didn’t wait that long.”
“Haha, your mage friend is quite generous.”
It seemed like they were aware that they were late.
Seeing them apologize to me, I decided to let it go since I wasn’t really angry.
Adventurers being late was a common occurrence.
Of course, if they responded like this when going to subdue an orc, that would be a different story.
“Let’s go then. It’s getting late.”
“You’re the one who came late and made us late.”
“…Didn’t I apologize?”
“Hmm.”
Unlike me, who didn’t really care, Violet seemed dissatisfied with the situation.
Well, she wasn’t really angry, but considering that adventurers were usually rough, the current situation could be considered quite civilized.
We were talking instead of fighting, after all.
“Good things are good, right? Let’s stop with the nonsense and get going.”
“Yes, let’s quickly kill the orc and come back. I have things to do too.”
I didn’t really have anything to do.
I just thought that if I said this, everyone would focus and we could finish quickly.
Although it seemed like no one really cared.
So, with Elysille’s farewell, we set off to kill the orc.
“Mr. Wizard, do you know how to use light magic by any chance? If you have that, there’s no need to use a torch.”
“Well, that’s… basic.”
For a wizard, light magic was essential.
Using light magic to illuminate the surroundings during the night was common practice.
For those studying magic, it could be considered an essential spell.
“Haha, then that’s fortunate. With Mr. Wizard in the party, we can save on torch expenses.”
“That’s true. Torch expenses can add up subtly.”
These people were naturally trying to use me as a human light source.
Wizards were known for their eccentric personalities, and since I appeared gentle, they seemed to want to take advantage of me.
Well, there was nothing wrong with accommodating them.
After all, I always had to use light magic.
It was good for practice as well.
And it was silly to get angry over this.
Having a wizard in the party had its advantages.
There was no need to light a torch.
With that in mind, I started a casual conversation.
“So, where did you originally reside, Mr. Theron?”
“Well, I originally lived in Luctern. Zone 4 of Luctern.”
“Oh, you lived in a nice place.”
That was true.
Luctern, unlike Baruk, was divided into five zones, all of which could be considered developed cities.
Zones 4 and 5 were inhabited by the middle class, while the upper class resided from Zone 3 onwards.
Therefore, Theron had lived in a fairly good place.
“And where did the wizard live? Most wizards are in Luctern.”
“Oh, well… I also lived in Luctern.”
There was a central square in Luctern where all zones converged, and I lived near there, begging or eating discarded food from trash cans.
But I couldn’t say I lived like that, so I conveyed a subtle fact rather than a clear one.
It would seem odd if I said the wizard didn’t reside in Luctern.
“They say Luctern is so nice, but I wouldn’t know, living in Baruk.”
“If you get the chance, you should visit. It’s great for sightseeing.”
“Well, I don’t… plan on going. Just saying. Going to Luctern would only invite more ridicule.”
“Haha…”
There were adventurers in Luctern as well, but they were generally looked down upon.
Because people thought it was a vulgar profession.
Most people with professions like wizards or priests resided there.
So unless you had a golden badge, it was difficult for adventurers to walk around Luctern with confidence.
As we talked, I wondered how far we had walked.
Finally, we arrived at the request location.
Usually, requests like this were made by Baruk’s side, as it was not worth sending troops all the way here.
So there was no need to worry about being scammed.
“By the way, where are the orcs? I don’t see them anywhere.”
“Oh, did the wizard say this is your first request? Just follow me. I’ll handle everything.”
“Haha… Thank you.”
Donatas didn’t seem reliable.
People who boasted like this usually ended up dying quickly.
But I didn’t bring up that fact.
If you tell someone who boasts that they’re boasting, will they admit it?
The chances of them not admitting it were higher.
So it was better to just nod vaguely and give a simple answer.
As we talked, Theron suddenly stopped.
Then he spoke to us.
“Everyone, get ready for battle. The orcs will appear shortly.”
Theron seemed to have some kind of detection ability.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have stopped like that without the orcs being visible.
“Ugh, when will they come? I want to catch them quickly and go back to sleep.”
“Rogue over there, stay alert. Orcs are not to be underestimated.”
“Call them orcs, they’re just green-skinned beings with low intelligence. Not trolls.”
As far as I know, it was said that at least four adventurers between the Gold Rank and Platinum Rank are needed to deal with trolls.
That’s how powerful of a monster they were considered to be.
With that in mind, I prepared to cast a spell.
I had to cast the spell before the orc group arrived.
But before that, I had a question.
“Is there anything useful among the orc remains? I don’t think it’s a good idea to incinerate that kind of stuff.”
“The bones of orcs are the most useful. They are very tough.”
“I see, got it.”
With that, it seemed like I could use magic as I pleased.
Bones were unlikely to get injured easily.
I could just electrocute them to death.
With that in mind, I cast the spell.
[Chain Lightning]
[Lightning Strike]
I cast the spells simultaneously.
I waited for the orcs to appear.
“Oh, here come the orcs. It’s my turn.”
Donatas tried to step forward, but there was no need for him to do so.
After all, I was planning to handle the situation.
With that in mind, I infused mana into the two spells.
Boom!
With the combination of the two spells, the orc group was swiftly annihilated.
