by fnovelpia“My victory! Arianna Fire-!!”
“Kuaaaaak!! I can’t believe my hand got so tangled upaaaaaa-!!”
The Goblin King, defeated in the duel, turned to ash and disappeared.
As expected of the Goblin King, he did have some strong cards, but he couldn’t resist the ‘Good Stuff’ deck, which was built to flexibly handle situations.
‘Arianna, she’s doing pretty well, isn’t she?’
Above all, Arianna’s deck proficiency has improved.
At first, I thought she was an idiot who couldn’t even memorize all the effects of the cards in her deck, but now that she has a new 20-card deck, she properly understands the role of each card and uses them effectively.
And no matter how moderately built the Good Stuff deck is, the cards Arianna possesses are from a later era than [Legacy], they are [Official] cards. If used correctly at the right times, it’s almost impossible to lose against [Legacy], an old deck. This is no exception even if the opponent is the Goblin King.
“Arianna, you’re doing pretty well for someone who called herself a failure, aren’t you?”
“Ah, no. The deck you fixed is really strong… Once I know how to use it, it’s almost impossible to lose, I guess. The amazing one is you, Sir Knight.”
“Nah. It’s just that there were many strong cards.”
Arianna and I praised each other in a warm atmosphere, leaving the Goblin King who had turned to ash behind. Thanks to overcoming various crises together, I feel like we’ve become quite close.
“Then… can we go back to the Duel Academy now?”
“I hope so.”
Since we’ve even taken care of the Goblin King, it doesn’t seem like there’s anything else around here. The sun has completely set, so I’d like to head somewhere safe soon.
“Shall we check the cards first? Since it’s the Goblin King, there might be some pretty good cards.”
“Ah, yes! I hope a different card comes out this time.”
Arianna and I poked the Goblin King’s ash-covered corpse with our feet, looking for cards.
The first goblin we faced left nothing behind (though I probably would have discarded it even if it did), but if you defeat a monster, you have a certain chance of obtaining that monster’s ace card.
Thanks to that, I’ve already collected nearly 10 copies of [Berserker Goblin]. Since you can only include up to 3 copies, it’s completely overflowing.
“Hmm?”
Under the Goblin King’s corpse, which I flipped with my foot, there was an unusually sparkling card.
“There’s a card that’s sparkling.”
“A sparkling card? Where… AAAAAAAAH?! A Le- Legend Card!!”
Arianna picked up the card and shouted, her eyes wide open.
“Legend Card?”
“Yes!! I can’t believe we’d find it in a place like this…!! It’s an incredibly rare and amazing card!! Whoaaa…!!”
Arianna, full of excitement, showed me the card, her eyes sparkling.
“It’s pretty and sparkly. The illustration pops out too.”
It was a card decorated with rainbow-colored foil, depicting a female knight with silver hair. The illustration drawn beyond the frame was full of dynamism. It looks quite expensive.
“A card with extremely powerful effects, one of only a few in this world… That’s a Legend Card!! I’ve only seen it in pictures; this is the first time I’ve seen the real thing. I can’t believe the Goblin King had something like this… It’s not a dream, is it?!”
As if she couldn’t believe it, Arianna pinched her cheek, then rubbed it as if it hurt. And then she looked at the sparkling card again and trembled.
“That’s great. Congratulations.”
I offered words of congratulations to Arianna, who was like that.
“Huh? Ah…”
When I congratulated her, Arianna seemed a bit flustered and trailed off. Then she looked back and forth between me and the card, groaning ‘eum…’.
Then, as if she had made up her mind,
“I’ll give this card to Sir Knight!!”
“Huh? To me?”
She held out that supposedly precious Legend Card to me.
“But you’re the one who won the duel against the Goblin King.”
“No. Everything about me being able to win is thanks to Sir Knight. If it weren’t for you, I definitely wouldn’t have been able to defeat even a single goblin. I actually lost before…”
Arianna mumbled in the same posture, holding out the card.
“It would be too shameless for me to take even this after receiving help this far. Please take it! Please take it before my resolve wavers…!!”
And as if asking me to take it quickly, she lowered her head deeply and held the sparkling Legend Card out to me even more. Her hands were trembling as if she was fighting her desire to keep it.
“Hmm. If you say so much… I’ll gratefully accept it.”
Taking a rare card from a newbie feels a bit reluctant, but if she says that much, it’s hard to refuse.
…Honestly, I kind of want it too. I don’t know its performance yet, but high-rarity bishojo cards are always nice.
I received the Legend Card from Arianna. At that moment,
Kiiiiiing-!!
“Kyaaak?!”
“Wh- What is it…?!”
A clear metallic sound echoed, and the card I received shone dazzlingly, brilliantly, and countless letters flowed around Arianna and me, surrounding us in a cylindrical shape.
[Possession by Qualified One Confirmed.]
[Releasing the soul sealed in the card.]
A voice, as if from a speech synthesis program, echoed in my head,
Kwaaaaaaaaaang!!
“Kyaaaak?!”
“Ugh, it’s coooold…!!”
A strong gust of cold air, powerful enough to make it difficult to stand, wrapped around us. Arianna and I couldn’t bear it and fell to our knees.
Kwaaaaaaa… Swaaaaaaa…
“Wh- What on earth happened? I was so surprised…”
“Heuogh. It’s cold. What is it…?”
When the gust finally subsided and I raised my head,
“…”
A massive female knight with blue hair, wearing something like wolf fur over her armor, was looking down at us with cold eyes.
LV.4 [Ice Mirror Mariusz] Attack 4000 Defense 3500
‘A member of the [4 Mirrors] who protect the King. The power to freeze even large lakes in an instant is worthy of the title [Ice Mirror].’
‘Le- Level 4 with incredible stats… As expected of a Legend Card. What about the effect…?’
“Did you awaken me?”
As I was staring up blankly, she spoke to me.
“It, it seems so… yes.”
I replied and stood up, facing the massive female knight, Ice Mirror Mariusz.
‘She’s huge. Is she 190cm?’
She was big when I saw her sitting, but when she stood up, she was truly tall. She was the tallest woman I had ever seen.
However, despite that, she didn’t feel muscular or bulky at all. Just like her build, her chest and thighs were full to bursting.
She was a person who suited the title of a female general rather than a female knight, being both dignified and beautiful.
“I, I’ve heard…”
Arianna’s trembling voice was heard from behind Ice Mirror Mariusz.
“They say that if a ‘Legend Card’ falls into the hands of the chosen one, it can manifest in reality…!!”
Arianna remained on her knees, her hands clasped as if in prayer, her eyes sparkling. She looked like she had found an object of worship.
“Is that so?”
Ice Mirror Mariusz turned and asked Arianna.
“Y-Yes?! Ah, w- well, wouldn’t that be right?!”
As if she hadn’t expected the person herself to ask, Arianna replied in a voice that sounded like she had bitten her tongue.
“Then is this one the chosen one.”
Ice Mirror Mariusz asked, looking at me. I didn’t feel any hostility, but her powerful, cold gaze made me unnecessarily tense.
“It, it seems so…?”
“I see.”
And the conversation stopped.
“…Um, what is it. Could I perhaps ask for your introduction?”
“Hmm.”
In response to my request, which was strangely convoluted due to my tension, Ice Mirror Mariusz hummed.
“I am Ice Mirror Mariusz.”
With her wolf-fur cloak fluttering, she gave a short and strong introduction.
“…Is that all?”
Arianna raised her hand and asked, as if asking a teacher a question.
“Regrettably. That is all I remember right now.”
It seemed like she didn’t remember anything else, even if she wanted to introduce herself further.
“The only thing I vaguely recall is that I was sealed in a card for some important reason in the distant past. I don’t know what that reason is, though. Rather, I’d like to ask you.”
“I, I see… I don’t know the details either…”
It seems Legend Cards have their own complicated circumstances.
“Well, in any case, a knight has one duty. To serve their master. Command.”
Ice Mirror Mariusz, hereafter referred to as Mariusz, knelt on one knee before me and requested a command. It was impressive that even kneeling and looking up, there wasn’t much difference in height between her and me.
“A command… Hmm. First, I want to go back to the Duel Academy. It’s the school she attends.”
“Indeed. The Duel Academy.”
“Ah, do you know it?!”
“No. I’ve never heard of it.”
Perhaps it’s because she’s Ice Mirror, her answers are very clear-cut. Although not helpful.
“If we go to a high place, will we be able to find it?”
“Huh?”
“If we go to a high place, will we be able to find it?”
I asked Arianna with a glance.
“Wouldn’t we? The trees are all so tall, so we’d have to go to a really high place…”
“I see. Understood.”
Mariusz stepped briskly towards me, then-
Hwaak!
“Whoa?!”
She picked me up in a princess carry. The movement was so swift I had no time to resist. Her large chest covered my field of vision.
“Are you the master’s attendant? You come too. Ride on my back.”
“Y- Yes? No, well, I’m not an attendant… Pl- please excuse me!”
While flustered, Arianna rode on Mariusz’s back as commanded, and
“Hold on tight so you don’t fall.”
“Huh? Whoaaaaaaaat?!”
Chwaaaaaaaaak!!
At the same time, Mariusz began to slide towards the cave entrance at an incredible speed.
‘W- What?! Ah. An ice path is forming on the ground!!’
Mariusz created an ice path on the ground and raced like she was skating.
Chwaaaaaak, Paaaaaaaang!!
Soon, with intense wind pressure, we exited the goblin cave, and
“Wait, the tree in front, Whoaaaaaak!!!”
“Kyaaaaaaaaaaat!!”
Kiing, Kwadedeudeuk!! Kwajik, Kwaaang!!
“No problem.”
She cut down obstructing trees as if shattering them with an ice axe in a single stroke, and raced furiously, creating an ice path in a gentle ascending trajectory like a plane taking off.
“W- What, what, what is it?! What’s happening?!”
“We are going to a high place to find the objective.”
Mariusz created a massive ice spiral and ascended towards a high place. The surrounding scenery passing by at incredible speed became terrifying, making it impossible to open my eyes.
How much time passed like that,
Shiiiiiiiiiik. Seuuuuuuk…
“This should be sufficient.”
When I opened my eyes in Mariusz’s arms, we were standing in a place high enough to look down on the forest.
“Is the Duel Academy over there?”
So clearly that the Duel Academy, which looked like a large castle from a fantasy movie, was visible.
“Ah… Haa, haaa… Yes, yes. It’s over there…”
“Then we shall go immediately.”
“J- Just, let’s rest for a moment, Kyaaaaaa!!!”
Shiik, Saaaaaak!!!
With the scenery blurring past at tremendous speed, we raced towards the Duel Academy.
It seems I’ve gotten my hands on a ridiculous card.
