Chapter Index

    “Ah.. Ah… .”

Start the test by tapping the microphone in front of you.

The girl sitting behind the large reinforced glass wall just stares blankly at me.

    “Are you feeling okay?”

As always, there is no answer.

Although she followed orders obediently, no answer could be elicited from the little girl.

My voice will definitely be heard in the room where the girl is sitting.

But the girl ignored all my questions as if she couldn’t hear my voice.

Check the girl’s condition on the white paper.

Are there any wounds? Is there anything different from yesterday?

Is there anything you want in particular?

I’m just writing down simple content.

Although I covered up the parts she didn’t answer with a reasonable amount of lies, no one took issue with the documents I submitted.

My new job was so comfortable.

    And it was boring.

All he does all day is look at the girl and talk to her.

    Nothing unusual today.

    No scars.

    I don’t want anything.

Since electronic devices are not allowed, I pass the time with the books I brought.

The girl behind the large glass wall sometimes disappears, but don’t worry.

Because it was clear that I had been dragged to the lab while I was concentrating on the book.

There was no way to know what kind of experiment the girl was doing.

All I know is that when the experiment is over, I just lie down and fall asleep.

Although it was pitiful that the girl had to spend her life being captured and used as a lab rat because she had misused her superpowers once, I only felt that way for the first week.

The girl, who was as unresponsive as a doll, no longer felt like an equal person.

    Repeat mechanically.

    Yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Just write down the girl’s condition in a rough outline and submit it.

I come home, watch TV or play a game, and then fall asleep.

    Going to work every morning.

    Repeat again.

As I was spending those days, I received a proposal.

“Do you think that makes sense?”

“What can I do? I’m being told to do it from above. Is there anyone else who can do it besides you?”

“No. Are you asking me to talk to that test subject with the exact same body?”

The boss who came to see me made me an offer.

Try to have a conversation with a body that is exactly like the experimental girl.

I thought there might be a reaction.

    “You need money?”

    It was ridiculous.

If you could tempt him with money, there was nothing he couldn’t do, but what kind of idiot would come up with such a thought?

    “Do you have doppelganger abilities?”

“I wonder if you’ve ever done what I thought?”

My boss, Dr. Heblum, laughed heartily and took out a cigarette and lit it.

“So what are you going to do?”

    “Can’t you not do that?”

“I can’t help it. Then you’ll have to look for another job starting tomorrow.”

    I wiped my dry face.

    My eyes went dark.

It was an offer he couldn’t refuse.

    “How long?”

As soon as I finished speaking, a bundle of documents flew out of his arms.

“A week will do. After that, the higher-ups will forget.”

I took in my hand the bundle of papers that Dr. Heblum had handed me.

The amount of documents was thinner than I thought.

    “Is this safe?”

“Of course, it’s not absolutely safe.”

“It’s really been a week, right?”

“Would you like to read the contract carefully?”

A subtle smile lingers in my mind.

I wanted to punch that middle-aged fat guy in the face, but if I did that I would be thrown out on the street in no time.

“Please give me a lot of money.”

“Your half year’s salary will be paid in that week.”

Read the contract and look over the notes.

The precautions are not much different from when you first became Dr. Heblum’s assistant.

    Things don’t change.

My body just changes for a week.

I took a deep breath and signed the contract right then and there.

    “Did you do it?”

    “Yes.”

    “Okay! Let’s go!”

Hebrum grabbed the contract I had signed and immediately grabbed my hand and started running down the hallway.

The fluttering white coat made the pig look like it was wearing a white cape.

The laboratory we arrived at, led by Dr. Heblum, had a very strange atmosphere.

The test subjects in the giant test tubes were motionless, as if they were dead.

“Ah. Actually, he’s alive, we just took out his psyche.”

“Is my body going to go in there soon?”

    “Right?”

A feeling of anxiety begins to creep in.

    The grinning fat man continued.

“I’ll fall asleep for a bit and when I wake up, things will have changed.”

As Hebrum spoke, he walked deeper into the water.

The place he arrived at after following him was in front of a test tube that was set aside as if it were being treated specially.

“How is it? They look the same, right?”

The girl floating with her eyes closed inside the test tube looked like the girl I had seen every day for the past year.

    “It’s perfect… .”

“Hello. I’ll be your body for a week.”

“I don’t really feel like it.”

I was touching the surface of the test tube, then sat down on the bed next to it.

“Here, take this. Eat it when you’re ready.”

Hebrews handed me a small pill.

It was the same product as the pills he gave me when I consulted him about insomnia.

I knew it was effective because I experienced it firsthand.

It was clear that I would collapse within minutes of taking the medicine.

After hesitating for a moment, I poured the pill that was rolling around on my palm into my mouth.
