Episode 16: The Wrongly Buttoned Button

A few hours before Cosmic Jak and Lilirane fought, in the early morning.

I announced the existence of resurrection magic for the first time since coming to this world.

    Lilirane had a surprised expression.

Resurrection magic was magic that even the famous Saintess had not been able to use.

It was natural to be surprised.

However, she calmed down sooner than I thought.

Lilirane is a person who has even experienced war.

Well, since I’m a transmigrator, I just take it as granted even if I hear about Lilirane, but according to Aransul, she was treated like a war hero.

As such, she must have seen various kinds of transmigrators.

In particular, she knew well how abnormal No-Name’s abilities were.

    “I see. So that’s why.”

In addition, Lilirane seemed to have something she could guess.

“I thought all traces except for Cosmic Jak had disappeared from the forest, but I was wondering why you suddenly reappeared.”

Is Lilirane able to sense that level of presence?

I guess I should be careful about recklessly using resurrection magic.

And I felt even more that Cosmic Jak had to be eliminated.

Cosmic Jak hadn’t yet guessed how Aransul and I had come back alive.

    But really, what if.

What if he came across resurrection magic by chance?

In all likelihood, he’d associate what happened this time with resurrection magic.

And depending on the needs, a Great Sinner might target me.

To prevent this, eliminating Cosmic Jak is the best.

“So, how are you going to save me? Cosmic Jak will notice something.”

I’ve already thought of what’s needed.

“Give me a segment of your little finger.”

To cut off a segment of her little finger.

    It’s a very absurd story.

    Seogeok-

But Lilirane unhesitatingly cut off a part of her little finger with space magic.

Then she threw it to me.

It was a tiny little finger, as small as her small frame.

I didn’t expect her to cut it off so readily.

Even a segment of the little finger is part of the body.

There would be cutting pain as well as psychological aversion.

“My life is at stake, would a little finger matter?”

Lilirane saw through my thoughts and laughed.

“What if I lied about the resurrection magic?”

“Isn’t it the same situation either way? I’m going to risk my life, so I have to try anything.”

    Her mindset itself is different.

    Is this experience?

“Or do you have a hobby of collecting fingers?”

    “I don’t have such a terrible hobby.”

    “I hope you never will.”

I grabbed her little finger tightly.

From the moment I used resurrection magic, I knew instinctively that I could revive even a little finger.

Other transmigrators would feel the same way.

All transmigrators knew instinctively how far they could use their abilities.

Abilities were like parts of the body.

Just as you use your body naturally, you could use your abilities naturally.

“I’ll be back. He doesn’t have much patience, so I have to go before he does something worse.”

The airship search party will move as soon as it dawns.

    So Lilirane immediately took action.

She moved so that others would be harmed as little as possible because of her.

Lilirane disappeared, and a quiet space remained.

I moved a little away from the house where Aransul was sleeping and the village of the fairy race to use resurrection magic.

Then I sat quietly next to the tree bark and killed time.

Before I knew it, the morning sun rose, and a blue dawn began to settle.

    I started to act.

I held my breath, grabbed the finger, and activated resurrection magic.

A pure white light spread to my grasp.

Accordingly, I felt a large amount of magic power remaining in my body draining away.

The change started from the tip of the tiny finger.

Bones grew, internal organs formed, and flesh grew.

Although it was a small body, it had everything it needed.

A plump chest rose above the pure white skin.

Resurrection magic does not restore clothes.

Perhaps that’s why her naked body was revealed as it was.

    Lilirane’s body was gradually completed.

The moment the fairy race’s wings grew out last.

    “Ugh, hoo.”

Lilirane slowly opened her eyes with a frown.

    I came into her view.

Lilirane met my eyes for a moment, then opened her lips.

“I really came back to life.”

She clenched and unclenched her hands with a face that couldn’t believe it.

Her severed left finger had also returned to its original state.

She was more indifferent than I thought, even though she had come back to life.

Usually, people fall into a state of confusion immediately after using resurrection magic.

As expected, she was no ordinary person.

“Lilirane-nim, what happened to Cosmic Jak?”

At my question, Lilirane slowly raised the corners of her mouth.

“He was screaming my name and was stuck at the bottom of the deep sea.”

    Bottom of the deep sea.

    That meant instant death.

He should have lived a good life.

It was a death worthy of a Great Sinner.

It was dirty meeting you, and let’s never meet again in the afterlife.

Lilirane covered her body with her wings and slowly flew up.

“Hmm, I should have left my pipe behind. A younger sibling I know gave it to me. I lost something good.”

All of her belongings are now sunk at the bottom of the deep sea.

Perhaps because of that, Lilirane expressed her regret.

“I shouldn’t say this at the point of saving my life. Thank you. I owe you one.”

“Yes, a big debt. I hope you don’t forget it and keep it in mind, and pay me back when I need it.”

Perhaps because of my confident words, Lilirane smiled brightly.

“I will. Isn’t that why we made a deal?”

Fortunately, she didn’t ask me to hand over my bundle just because I saved someone who fell into the water.

    “And please keep the secret.”

“I will. It’s an ability that’s not good to be known.”

    I’m glad she understands.

Even to Lilirane, resurrection magic was too risky.

    “So, how’s your body?”

    My body?

    I stared blankly at Lilirane.

Was there something that hadn’t been fully recovered?

Pure white skin and long limbs.

A thin body revealed little by little between the wings.

It seems like nothing is missing.

Then, at my gaze, Lilirane shrank her body and cleared her throat.

“Even if I’m an old woman, it’s embarrassing to be stared at like that.”

“Ah, I was wondering if there was something that hadn’t been fully recovered.”

“I’m not talking about my body, boy, I’m talking about your body.”

    My body?

I was wondering what problem I, who was fine in the fairy race village, could have.

“I revived your body from your little finger. Although I’m small because I’m a fairy race, a large amount of holy power must have been consumed.

Are you really okay? For example, heart pain or something.”

    Heart disease.

It’s a common symptom for holy magic users.

Unlike general magic power, holy magic power is mainly converted around the heart.

As a result, if you use holy magic power often, your heart gets strained, and you sometimes get sick.

However, this is meaningless if you grow enough to have self-healing abilities like Raphael.

Even if your heart is hit, your body will recover on its own.

I have talent, but I’m not a holy magic user of that level.

I can resurrect, but my body doesn’t recover on its own.

But I didn’t feel tired just because I used resurrection magic a little.

I was just a little tired because I couldn’t sleep.

“Hmm, do you have a lot of magic power?”

“Isn’t it because I’m crazy talented?”

“I don’t know what you mean by crazy talented, but since you have such holy magic, you have an excellent talent for learning other holy magic.”

    Lilirane-approved genius.

    That’s me.

“Then, I have to go back to return the essence of the Breathwood. It’s been too long since the essence left the Breathwood.”

“Yes, I should get some sleep too.”

    “See you later.”

Lilirane moved her wings and left.

She must have had a fierce battle with Cosmic Jak, but she looked more calm than I thought.

That meant she was used to life-threatening battles.

I wonder if I’ll become like that later, it’s scary.

I have to take care of myself as much as possible and somehow survive.

Lilirane left, and I trudged back to the house I was assigned.

As I told Lilirane, I was going to lie down and rest now.

    “Harua.”

And there was one unexpected problem left.

When I entered the house, Aransul was sitting on a chair in front of the entrance.

Looking at her expression, it seemed like she hadn’t slept much.

    “Where have you been?”

    “Morning training.”

“Out since last night until now?”

    As expected, she didn’t sleep.

She must have noticed my presence and pretended to sleep.

A brief staring contest took place between Aransul and me.

    I don’t particularly trust Aransul.

In the first place, I’ve never trusted anyone since coming to this world.

I’m just moving based on people’s character and profit relationships.

    I can’t deny that I’m subtly emotional.

    With Aransul, it’s like that.

    I think I’ve built a decent relationship.

The first button may have been buttoned wrong, but the buttons after that were pretty good.

    But that’s it.

Becoming a trusted relationship with her is a separate story.

Knowing this fact, Aransul got up from her seat without asking more.

“I injured my left hand so badly in the battle with Cosmic Jak that I couldn’t hold my sword properly.”

So that’s why she kept clenching and unclenching her left hand.

I paused for a very short time.

I realized why Aransul said this now.

Aransul’s injured left hand had been healed when I opened my eyes.

My recovery magic heals shallow wounds to some extent.

    But that’s all.

It’s still not enough to recover bones and muscles.

    Aransul knows my skills.

For a while, our training times overlapped, so we repeated training together.

But when I opened my eyes, my left hand was fully recovered.

Not only that, but minor wounds would have been the same.

If Cosmic had just knocked us unconscious and left, the wounds should have remained as they were.

It was natural for Aransul to question this.

Above all, the reaction Cosmic Jak showed when we met again.

That reaction was clearly ‘Why are you guys alive?’

Aransul wouldn’t have been unaware of this.

And today, I suddenly went out without saying a word.

The reality is that even if an ordinary holy magic user goes out, they can’t do anything, but I did.

It was natural for doubts to arise.

“I just wanted to say thank you for whatever it was.”

But even if I have the previous information, I can’t guess that I have resurrection magic.

Resurrection magic is treated as a legend even in this world.

“If there’s something you want to hide from me, you don’t have to say it. It’s just a thank you for healing me even while enduring that.”

    14

Aransul smiled faintly and turned her body.

“Thank you. You worked hard. Good night.”

Aransul went back to her room with that.

I stood silently in front of the entrance.

The sunlight rising from the window of the entrance seeped in.

Aransul didn’t wonder what I had.

She just wanted to say thank you for whatever it was.

    She hates and despises transmigrators.

But she wanted to change her own life, including the lives of others.

That’s why she waited here alone today.

She waited in case something happened to me.

At the same time, she deliberately considered me, who was hiding something.

The evidence is that she waited until morning without coming to find me.

I was nervous alone there and tried to figure out her intentions.

    My gaze reached the window.

    The first button buttoned wrong.

I must have buttoned the button wrong from the moment I came to this world.

And it’s probably a button that I’ll never be able to button properly in my life.

Even while bitterly recognizing that fact, it may be human to long for the day when I can unbutton the button someday.
