Adaptation to the Abnormal Phenomenon – 3

Adaptation to the Abnormal Phenomenon – 3

After a few days of tests at the hospital, Onyu went through the discharge process with lightning speed as soon as she was told it was okay for Kang In-ho to leave.

The doctor expressed some concern about Inho’s memory, which showed no signs of returning, but Onyu just smiled brightly and said, “I’ll be by Inho’s side, telling him everything one by one.”

Having been confined to the hospital, Inho hadn’t realized it, but the season was now early autumn, with a hint of chill in the air.

    ‘Better than being hot.’

    Inho thought to himself.

Onyu, weakened by her time in the hospital, said she was cold and linked arms with Inho.

No, it wasn’t just linking arms, she was practically leaning on him, pushing him to one side with every step.

Hey, wasn’t she supposed to be worried about Inho?

While in the hospital, and on the way home, Inho pieced together the following information about himself from the stories Onyu told him:

Kang In-ho. 18 years old. Student at Haze High School.

    Birthday: May 4th.

Orphaned in a accident in the first year of middle school.

Living off the inheritance his parents left him, and apparently living without any major problems, having matured early.

His closest friend is Shin Onyu, and they went everywhere together.

Inho found this part a little surprising.

If the pigeon god was responsible for dropping him here, he expected this girl to be obsessively attached to him, and possibly feeding him false information now that he’d lost his memory. But surprisingly, she didn’t seem to be lying.

Frankly, if she’d said they were lovers, Inho would have immediately raised his guard. He decided to observe her a little longer.

Not that he completely trusted her, though.

After getting out of the taxi, they decided to walk for a bit.

Walking through the residential neighborhood, Inho tried to memorize the scenery.

Since this was the world he had to settle in, he figured it was best to get used to it quickly.

    “Hehehe.”

It wasn’t even spring yet, but Onyu was grinning like a madwoman.

    “What are you laughing at?”

“Well~ it’s been so long since we walked home together like this. I thought I’d never walk this road with you again.”

Onyu twirled a strand of hair around her finger and whispered, “I thought it was natural for you to be by my side. But I realized it wasn’t.”

    “Oh… okay… well.”

Not knowing how to react to this kind of conversation, Inho looked away.

Onyu didn’t seem to have anything more to say either, and simply tightened her grip on his arm.

The strange pressure felt both good and heavy.

    “It’s over there.”

Onyu pointed to a house at the end of the street.

An ordinary house that could be found anywhere. Inho had always lived in apartments and had a longing for a detached house, and now he was getting a chance to live in one.

The front door had a digital lock.

Inho pressed 0504, his birthday, but the door didn’t open.

He blinked and looked at Onyu, who giggled and carefully pressed each number.

    “That’s not the password, silly.”

Her long, white finger went to 1.

    “Next is 2.”

    She pressed 2.

    “Then back to 1.”

After pressing 1 again, she looked at Inho.

“There’s still one number left, you know?”

“Yeah. What do you think the last number is?”

    “I have no idea.”

As she pressed 4, the door lock beeped and opened.

“1214? What kind of number is that?”

Inho asked Onyu as she opened the front door.

“Just so you know, my birthday is December 14th.”

“Why is my house password your birthday?”

At Inho’s question, Onyu smiled and leaned in close.

    “Who knows?”

She whispered in his ear in a very small voice.

Inho found her voice both sweet and goosebump-inducing.
