EP.9 Saint of Another World-3

The Saint of Another World – 3
-Shiver, shiver.
I didn’t know a person’s trembling could be heard as a sound.
After selecting the attendants, the blonde-haired nun and I were led to a quiet room.
It was a room with a carpet, a desk and chair for reading, and a bed large enough for one person to lie on.
As a bonus, there was a small round table where we could sit facing each other and drink coffee.
I was told it was my room.
‘Since you are the person chosen directly by the Saint, how about having a conversation?’
The kindly looking Pope suggested to me, and I had no reason to refuse.
Rather, I had to deceive the woman in front of me completely.
To alleviate any suspicion about me.
And so, under the guise of an interview, I am having tea time with my attendant, Maria Roen.
Of course, my conversation partner seems quite nervous, so I can’t say it’s peaceful, even as a polite remark.
It’s understandable to be nervous when the second-in-command of protocol suddenly appears.
Who is the first? Divine Doctor, of course.
Judging from the Pope’s attitude, the existence of the ‘Saint’ must be very precious.
Isn’t it natural for a Saint to be precious? Well, in web novels these days, that’s not always the case.
In times like these, it’s best to break the ice.
It’s something we always do when a new employee joins the company.
-Ahem, ahem.
As I cleared my throat, Maria, who had been fixing her gaze on her cup, cautiously raised her head.
I put on a benevolent face and spoke to her.
“Why are you so scared? Surely you haven’t committed an unspeakable sin, have you?”
Witty, comfortable, and with a touch of localization.
Normally, she would have smiled awkwardly, and the tension would have eased, but for some reason, Maria’s trembling worsened.
Oops, I messed up.
-Thump
Maria slipped off her chair as if collapsing.
She prostrated herself at my feet, bowing her head.
“I am a sinner!”
The voices and emotions of the bandits who faced death before Master were the same.
The fear that comes to those facing death.
I could feel it from Maria as well.
I also rose from my chair and placed my hand on her shoulder, which was almost touching the ground.
A flinching sensation ran through my hand.
“Raise your head, Sister Maria.”
It was time to drop the playfulness and show the compassionate Saint.
At my words, devoid of laughter, Maria cautiously raised her head.
“……”
Her emerald eyes were filled with indescribable emotions.
“First, get up. We can’t talk in this position, can we?”
With a smile, I helped her up.
Slowly, without rushing, I gradually pulled her up.
Eventually, she and I faced each other.
Looking at her up close, our eyes meet at a similar level, so our heights must be similar.
She’s quite tall for a woman.
“Let’s sit back down.”
As I pointed to her chair, which had been pushed back, Maria blushed and quietly returned the chair to its original position.
We sat down again. I picked up my cup and took a sip of coffee.
Honestly, I’m not one to enjoy the taste of coffee, but I could still feel the comfort of the savory coffee aroma.
I raised my cup slightly and offered it to her.
Hesitantly, Maria’s white hand reached for the cup given to her.
“You seem very nervous. Let’s take some time to calm down.”
And so, she and I took time to refresh the air in the bustling room.
“Um….”
Just as I was wondering when she would speak, she thankfully opened her mouth.
There was still a lot of hesitation in her voice, but I was relieved that she spoke first.
It’s better for her to open her mouth and give me trivial information than for me to speak awkwardly and reveal that I’m not the Saint.
“I have one… question.”
“Yes, I will answer if it is something I know.”
I leaned forward slightly, gesturing that I was listening to her.
Maria’s emerald eyes, which had been glancing at the cup on the table, turned to my face and then back to their original state.
“Why… did you choose me… May I ask?”
I wanted to show a commoner-friendly image, and I chose her because she was the most familiar, but I can’t say that.
Let’s gloss over it with vague words.
“Because I thought you were suitable.”
I leaned back, showing a relaxed demeanor.
“Suitable… you mean?”
She blinked her eyes and said.
“Yes. Suitable… and qualified.”
She must be wondering what that qualification is.
I felt like her somewhat passive gaze had changed slightly.
“Then, that! That qualification is….”
Maria leaned her body towards the table. Her large breasts rested on the table.
“……..”
It seems a bit… too stimulating, so I turned my gaze towards the ceiling.
Even though I turned my gaze to the ceiling, I could feel her piercing gaze on me.
Qualification? I don’t know. Maybe there’s a doctrine written in the Bible.
But since I don’t know that doctrine, I have to make something up.
The best way to do this is.
“Don’t you know that better than I do?”
To return the question with a question.
At my words, her eyes widened.
If I continue the conversation, my knowledge will be exposed, so I should end the conversation here.
I got up from my seat, subtly urging her to leave.
Perhaps she understood my intention, she followed me and stood up.
“Then I’ll be going. Saint. I heard that the official schedule starts tomorrow, so I’ll be waiting in front of your room on time.”
“I understand. It may be awkward, but I hope we can get to know each other slowly. Please take care of me, Sister Maria.”
“Take care of you? I will serve you without any shortcomings, Saint.”
She bowed to me and disappeared into the distance.
I closed the door and listened to the hallway.
Fortunately, there seems to be no one watching.
I jumped onto the wide bed as if diving.
Lying face down on the bed, I buried my face in the pillow and forcefully released the energy rising from my core.
“Aaaaaaaah!!!!!”
Pretending to be a Saint is so damn hard!!!!!!!
Maria Roen, whose position had been changed from Inquisitor to the Saint’s attendant, was summoned by the Pope and visited his office.
“I greet Your Holiness.”
Before her eyes, as she bowed her head, were the Pope and representatives from each group.
-Gulp
As the tension tightened around her, she swallowed.
“Yes. Ma… Sister Maria. Were there any special circumstances during your meeting with the Saint?”
The Pope, who stammeringly remembered her name, asked with a benevolent smile.
“Special circumstances, you mean….”
“Ah, I’m asking if anything happened. If there was anything that would be a nuisance to the Saint….”
“Actually….”
Maria honestly told him what had happened during her meeting with the Saint.
She had no choice but to tell the truth.
When her story ended, the Pope stroked his chin and made a humming sound.
“The Saint has shown his will.”
“His will, you mean?”
The thick voice of the Holy Knight Commander next to the Pope was heard.
The Pope scanned the faces of the people gathered in the office.
“Sister Maria here is the Inquisitor who executed the Saint’s execution just yesterday.”
At the Pope’s words, Maria’s body stiffened.
“The method of punishing the desecration of the Saint’s body is not recorded anywhere in the Bible. If we were to find a similar doctrine, it would be the desecration of holy relics.”
Regardless, the Pope continued to speak.
“And the punishment for deliberately desecrating holy relics is….”
“Burning at the stake.”
As the Pope prolonged his words, Lumen, the Inquisitor Captain, who had been standing calmly, continued the words.
At the word burning at the stake, Maria’s lips began to tremble uncontrollably.
“However… the Saint has chosen Sister Maria as the person to assist him. I believe this shows his mercy in not questioning her sin any further.”
At the Pope’s words, Maria breathed a sigh of relief.
“And when Sister Maria asked the Saint about ‘qualification,’ the Saint looked at the ceiling.”
The Pope’s finger pointed to the ceiling.
“What is the ceiling?”
No one answered the Pope’s question.
“It is the sky. Beyond the sky is Divine Doctor. In other words, he is telling you to ask the sky for that qualification.”
Everyone in the room admired the interpretation, which was more exquisite than a dream.
The Pope’s serious face turned to Maria.
“Sister Maria, the Saint has forgiven Sister Maria’s impiety and shown his intention for Sister Maria’s faith to be seen in the sky.”
“My… faith, you mean?”
“That’s right. The faith of Sister Maria, an Inquisitor, will surely be firm, but in the eyes of the absolute being, it may seem like an infinitely weak faith.”
Maria recalled herself, desperately trying to prove herself.
“You know the story of Rob in the Bible without me having to explain it. He was the one with the least faith, so he was the man who could prove himself to Divine Doctor. Now, the Saint is saying that Sister Maria’s faith is not complete, so she is qualified to prove her faith.”
“So, show the Saint your firm faith.”
“…I understand.”
Maria answered the Pope’s words.
After the conversation, Maria left the Pope’s office and crossed the central garden.
She was still having difficulty finding a sense of reality in the situation that had changed overnight.
“……”
Suddenly, the warm sunlight tickled her head.
It felt like a strong light was shining down on her.
It was a moment when her faith was filled.
