The Interest of a Dangerous Existence – 2
When was the last time I was this nervous? Nibir thought.
She wanted to swallow, but for some reason, her throat and tongue wouldn’t cooperate.
Her mouth felt dry every second, and her hands trembled. An indescribable fear gnawed at her body.
Nibir squeezed her eyes shut, feeling as if her body was being crushed.
She found this oppressive atmosphere strangely familiar.
She had experienced this sensation before, but she couldn’t quite remember what it was.
“Oh? Didn’t you hear me?”
Loki, cupping his hand to his ear and smiling, looked both playful and eerie.
Ah, I see. Nibir realized.
The name of the sensation that was constricting her was the fear of death.
“S-Senior.”
Nibir managed to swallow and speak, but Loki had no intention of giving her any leeway.
“Do you need some time? Cute junior! Time is ticking away. Tick-tock.”
Loki made a ticking sound with his mouth.
For a Class 1 Dimension Management God to say this meant that he had already grasped the whole story of the incident.
Nibir wasn’t foolish enough not to realize that. In fact, she was quite capable.
If she confessed everything honestly, she could at least avoid being punished for being defiant.
Nibir placed her hand on her chest, pressing down on her pounding heart. She could clearly feel the throbbing of her heart through her palm.
“Class 2 Dimension Management God Nibir… I will tell you the truth.”
Steadying her trembling voice, Nibir opened her eyes.
Then, Loki smiled and straightened up, returning to his original posture.
“Don’t speak.”
“Pardon?”
Nibir’s eyes widened at Loki’s words.
“Our junior has a bad habit of asking back, don’t you think?”
Loki rubbed his palms together as if he were about to enjoy a delicious meal.
Nibir clenched and unclenched her hands. Her palms were soaked with sweat.
It felt like she had returned to being a mortal after a long time.
Loki slowly approached Nibir.
With each of his steps, Nibir’s breath hitched.
“Since I’m in a good mood, I’ll tell you one more time. Do. Not. Speak.”
Loki enunciated each syllable, the corners of his lips raised high enough to reveal his dimples.
Nibir could only stare at Loki’s mouth, frozen in place.
Loki, seeing his junior frozen like a statue, smiled again and turned his back.
“I just made an interesting discovery and told my junior about it.”
“Senior, actually….”
“Class 2 Dimension Management God Nibir.”
Nibir started to speak, but Loki immediately cut her off.
“If you tell me something truthfully, I, as a Class 1 Dimension Management God, will have no choice but to act accordingly, you know? Surely, you don’t want that, do you?”
Loki asked, drawing out his words.
Nibir closed her eyes. She couldn’t grasp the intentions of this being who was circling around her and smiling.
What was certain was that Loki had no intention of revealing her wrongdoing, and she had no choice but to take the hand he offered.
“It seems Senior Loki has had a unique experience.”
Nibir wasn’t sure if saying this was the right thing to do.
“Right? It was re~ally amazing, you know?”
But it didn’t take long for that anxiety to turn into relief.
“What are you planning to do, Senior?”
Nibir had no choice but to move forward, even knowing that she was stepping into a swamp.
“Hmm? About what?”
“Since you’ve discovered a unique being… are you planning to report it to the Bureau?”
“Nope? I have no intention of doing that?”
“Then?”
“I’m just going to stay put, I guess.”
“I don’t understand.”
“What don’t you understand?”
Loki tilted his head at Nibir’s words.
“Since you’re so interested in the mortals who underwent Dimensional Shift, I thought you would track their whereabouts or report it to the Bureau.”
Nibir slowly expressed her thoughts. Loki smiled at his clever junior’s words.
“Well, Athena would have done that, right? Or maybe? Maybe Athena would have summarily executed them on the spot?”
“…….”
At those threatening words, Nibir looked even more confused.
“It seems to be related to the recent increase in causal inconsistencies? So I decided to leave it alone.”
“That doesn’t make sense, Senior.”
“Really? It does to me.”
“Senior, I’m sorry, but I’m too ignorant to follow your thoughts. May I ask a rude question, even though I’m sorry?”
Nibir looked at Loki.
“I welcome questions from my excellent junior who graduated at the top of her class.”
“Are you not interested in the stability of dimensions?”
“Hmm… that’s a very bold question, isn’t it?”
“I apologize.”
Nibir quickly lowered her head.
“Haha, I wasn’t trying to scold you… I’m just amazed that you could even think of such a thing.”
Kids these days are so smart. Loki stuck out his tongue.
“Managing the causality of all dimensions is the duty of a Dimension Management God. And I am a Dimension Management God. Does that answer your question?”
Loki shrugged and answered.
“But your words don’t seem to align with that.”
Nibir added, even though it was the standard answer.
“Oh? It’s kind of refreshing to hear that from my junior?”
Loki sneered, and Nibir’s face flushed red.
It wasn’t like the one who caused this situation should be saying that.
“But since you asked, I should give you an answer.”
With a wink, Loki brought his mouth close to Nibir’s ear, as if he were about to tell her a huge secret.
And whispered.
“I want those mortals to travel through more dimensions and disrupt causality even more.”
Nibir distanced herself and rubbed her ear with her hand.
Her face was full of bewilderment, as if she couldn’t believe what she had just heard.
“Senior, you just said it was the duty of a Dimension Management God….”
“Yeah, I did.”
“That doesn’t make sense….”
“Well~ it might seem that way to you, junior. Think about it.”
Loki patted Nibir on the shoulder and walked towards the door.
“Senior!”
Nibir shouted at Loki’s retreating back.
“Yeah?”
“What are you aiming for, Senior?”
“Saying ‘aiming for’ makes me sound like a bad person.”
Loki could only shrug again at the gaze of his junior, who was looking at him with doubt and suspicion.
“I just want to see something interesting.”
Loki waved his hand with an innocent face and left the conference room, and Nibir collapsed into her chair.
“…What on earth is about to happen?”
She hated Ranael even more today.
