    665 – In-Game Purchases

I held Master Chae Juyeon’s hand and looked at the wild boar.

The children who followed behind me were also looking at the wild boar.

    “Kku-kku-i.”

Gaeul poked the wild boar’s nose with the Wooden Caliber I had returned to her.

Fortunately, the wild boar didn’t move.

“Master, the wild boar is really big.”

    “Yeah. Bigger than Gyeoul?”

“Yes, the wild boar I faced in the past was about this size too.”

It was extremely strong and had a nasty temperament.

I felt proud of the fact that I had faced such a creature alone in the days before Mana.

Without realizing it, I ended up making a boastful expression to the Master.

“Gyeoul, you’ve faced a wild boar this big too?”

    “Yes. I, uh…”

I had to pause and think for a moment as I was speaking.

While I had encountered wild boars many times, it wasn’t quite accurate to say I had faced them.

All I had done was hide from them.

“Uh… come to think of it, I didn’t actually face the wild boars… I just ran away or hid when they appeared…”

    “…I see.”

“Yes. In the past, I really hated wild boars. But not anymore.”

    “Oh? Why not anymore?”

“Thanks to my family, I rarely feel hatred towards anyone now.”

After becoming a family with everyone, I spent most of my waking hours thinking and acting positively.

As a result, there was no time to hate wild boars.

“I see, family really is the best, huh?”

    “Yes.”

    Hehe.

I smiled at Master Chae Juyeon, then looked down at the wild boar again.

I was curious about how the Master would handle the wild boar.

“Master, what are you going to do with this wild boar?”

    “Probably… taxidermy?”

    “Taxidermy?”

“Yeah. It’s one of the top three toughest opponents I’ve faced so far.”

So even for Master Chae Juyeon, wild boars are among the most difficult opponents.

As expected, wild boars are not to be underestimated.

I was amazed that Master Chae Juyeon had caught the wild boar with just a tiny amount of Mana.

“Master, if you leave the wild boar, it will spoil. It’s hot out.”

“Ah, right. I should take it away now.”

Master Chae Juyeon lifted the wild boar with a heave.

Saebyeok, who was riding on top of the wild boar, was lifted along with it.

“Master, let’s play together again sometime.”

    “Sure. It’s a promise.”

I waved my hand along with the children towards Master Chae Juyeon as she departed into the distance.

Even from behind, the wild boar being carried by the Master looked somewhat scary.

    **

The Wooden Caliber helicopter and the scary wild boar.

After all these events, we returned to the Ggaemmi Guild building.

    “Yap! Yap!”

Levinas was playing a game on Bomi’s laptop.

It looked like an online RPG game.

    “Levinas, what game is this?”

    “This is a fighting game!”

    “I see. But…”

    From monsters to other players.

Levinas was attacking everything in sight

I was surprised by his uncharacteristically ruthless behavior.

“Levinas, is it okay to kill everything like this?”

“Yup! That’s the kind of game this is! The winner takes all!”

    “Ah…”

Levinas ran around the field attacking players.

But Levinas’s ruthlessness didn’t last very long.

He died after being attacked by another player.

    “Gasp!”

Levinas opened his Horned Rabbit eyes wide as he looked at his dead character.

It was then that I noticed the character’s nickname was [JjangArin].

It seemed he had borrowed the ID from Kwon Arin.

“Levinas, this is called a dodge skill. Try using it to avoid the opponent’s attacks.”

    “Okay…!”

Levinas tried using the dodge skill to attack opponents as I advised.

But he didn’t survive for long this time either.

The opposing player killed Levinas’s character with impressive skill.

    ‘That’s some impressive control.’

Maybe they’re what people call a veteran player.

If so, Levinas, who had just started playing, had a low chance of winning.

    “Hmm…”

After briefly checking the skill system, I put my hands on the keyboard along with Levinas.

We had our own special move called fusion.

“Levinas, shall we do it together?”

    “Yeah!”

Levinas controlled the character, and I took charge of the skills.

It was easy for me to use counter skills in response to the opponent’s skills.

    One, two, then three.

As Levinas and I were killing players, we encountered a strange player.

Even though we were unleashing a barrage of skills, the opponent’s health wasn’t decreasing.

    “Huh?”

    “Oh…?”

    What’s going on?

Confused, I stopped attacking for a moment.

Levinas also seemed puzzled and stopped moving his character.

    -Lol keep hitting me.

Sensing our hesitation, the opposing player sent a chat message.

In response to the clear mockery and provocation, Levinas attacked the opposing player.

He landed about three normal attacks, but couldn’t even chip away 1% of the opponent’s health.

“Wanga! Their health isn’t going down!”

    “Yeah… what’s going on…?”

Confused, I pressed the Enter key.

It was to send a chat message to the opponent.

    -Bug???

No matter how much we attack, their health doesn’t go down.

    It must be a bug.

But the opponent’s reply was very different from what I expected.

    -Item difference lol

    -Item difference???

-Yep. Your control is good, but you can’t overcome the item difference lol

    Item difference?

I quickly checked the opponent’s equipment.

I’m not sure what it was, but there were all sorts of stats listed.

The items were sparkling, on a completely different level from the items we had equipped.

    “This can’t be.”

So it wasn’t a game decided by control alone.

In despair, I typed another message to the opponent.

-I’ll come back after matching your items. Let’s fight again then.

    -Lol that’ll be hard

    -Why would it be hard?

-My character is quite expensive lol

-That’s okay. I earn a lot of money too.

I confidently answered the opponent’s question.

If I set my mind to it, in one day…

As I was counting on my fingers how much I could earn in a day, people started gathering around me.

They were all the ones I had killed before, and I realized they were in the same guild as the ones with the amazing items.

Did they gather as a group because we killed them?

Ganging up like this is cowardly.

I repeatedly pressed the jump key in protest.

But sadly, my protest had no effect.

    Thud-!

    Just one hit.

That alone drained more than half of my character’s health.

And it wasn’t even a skill, just a normal attack.

    “Gasp.”

Startled, I tried to use the dodge skill to escape, but I couldn’t overcome the item difference.

In the end, we saw the gray screen indicating our character’s death.

    “We lost…!”

    “Yeah. Let’s try again.”

After reviving the character, we went to find the opponent again.

We tried challenging them about three times like this, but ended up losing by an overwhelming margin.

    -Lololol

    -You’ve got good persistence.

Levinas’s ears drooped at the mockery of the opposing guild members.

Not even seeing a glimmer of hope for victory, I felt empty.

-Dude, you need to spend at least 1 billion to beat that person.

    -1 billion?!?!

-Yeah, and that’s the minimum considering your good control.

    -;;;;;;;;;;;;

    1 billion?

    They’re not lying, are they?

In my shock, my hands fell from the keyboard.

-I thought you said you had a lot of money. Hurry up and spend it.

    -Lololol

    -You don’t have 1 billion??

The opposing guild was having a festival at my confusion.

They jumped around my character mocking us, but there was nothing we could do.

    “Sob sob.”

No matter how good your control is, you’re powerless in the face of real money spending.

My shoulders slumped at the overwhelming defeat and sense of powerlessness we experienced in the game.

    **

As Kang Jinho was about to enter the guild through the park, he spotted the children sitting on a bench.

    Dae-aeng-

Gyeoul and Levinas were sitting with gloomy expressions.

That pitiful sight was enough to make Kang Jinho change his steps.

    Tok tok.

Kang Jinho tapped Saebyeok’s shoulder, who was nearby.

He wanted to ask why the children were like that.

“Why are they sitting like that?”

“They said they lost in a game.”

    “A game?”

The children Kang Jinho knew wouldn’t make such expressions just from losing a game.

Usually they would accept it gracefully…

Sensing Kang Jinho’s puzzlement, Saebyeok continued explaining.

“It was an RPG game, and they lost due to item differences.”

    “Items?”

“Yeah. Gyeoul’s skill was good, but the opponent had much better items. So they kept dying and getting taunted.”

    Taunted?

Kang Jinho didn’t know the exact situation, but he knew what kind of taunting they must have experienced.

He knew all too well how people who brag about money express themselves.

“I guess the opponent had a lot of money.”

    “Yeah. They’re super rich apparently.”

Just how much did they spend on their character to be able to taunt like that?

Kang Jinho had never enjoyed games, so he didn’t know the scale of in-game spending.

But to flaunt their wealth like that…

“Did they spend about 100 billion?”

“No, they said it was around 40 or 50 billion.”

    “50 billion?”

Kang Jinho, who didn’t know much about games, stroked his chin in thought.

The amount was less than he expected.

Of course, he knew it was an enormous sum for the children.

If he offered to put money into their characters, the children would probably refuse.

He’d have to help them secretly…

Not knowing much about games, Kang Jinho decided to go find Kwon Arin.

She was the top gaming expert in the guild after all.

    “…Alright, I understand.”

As Kang Jinho turned to leave, Saebyeok tugged on his clothes.

Saebyeok knew that Kang Jinho would spare no expense for the children.

So she wanted to prevent any unnecessary waste.

“They say Gyeoul’s skill is so good that he doesn’t need to spend up to 50 billion.”

You won’t spend up to 50 billion, right?

Saebyeok looked up at Kang Jinho with that kind of gaze.

    “Hmm.”

It was a gaze he couldn’t quite understand.
