523 – Disadvantages of the Beastmen

523 – Disadvantages of the Beastmen

What we executed was a cute, animation-style game.

So, I expected a fairy tale-like story, but the content was surprisingly brutal.

    “Hurry up and execute them!”

The crowd was furious, demanding the extermination of the Beastmen.

At that moment, as the executioner with a sword approached, a gigantic dragon appeared from the sky.

    “Graaaah!”

As the dragon wreaked havoc, Levinas’s character, who had been tied up, was freed.

Someone who had been captured alongside him reached out, urging him to escape together, but Levinas ran towards the executioner on the opposite side.

    “Hyah!”

    Thud! Thud!

Level 1 Levinas attacked the executioner with his fists.

Unfortunately, the executioner was level 5 and armed with a sword and armor.

    Whoosh!

With the sound effect of a sword swinging, the screen darkened.

Then, a screen appeared indicating that Levinas’s character had died.

    “······.”

    “······.”

We stared at the gray screen for a while, feeling down.

The pointer of the mouse that Levinas held hesitated near the “Try Again” option.

“Levinas doesn’t want to play this Gaim anymore…”

    “Stupid Gaim…!”

    Levinas’s ears drooped sadly.

Gaeul, who was watching the game beside him, also pouted her lips.

“I didn’t know it was going to be like this… Should we just play another game…?”

Just then, Kwon Arin approached quietly.

I noticed a comment popping up in the chat window.

[Just hang in there, it’s only like this at the beginning.]

    The username was familiar.

It was someone who always wrote nice comments whenever Kwon Arin streamed.

“···Levinas, should we try a little longer?”

“Longer?! This is a really bad game, isn’t it?!”

“Still, let’s try to endure a bit more. You never know.”

    “···Okay!”

Levinas resurrected and started the game again.

However, unable to tolerate someone insulting the Beastmen, he attacked and died once more.

“Levinas, I think we should follow that person.”

    “I know!”

Once again resurrected, Levinas attacked the one who insulted the Beastmen and immediately fled.

Perhaps because he wasn’t carrying any equipment, he ran away quickly.

“Ha, suddenly a dragon, how lucky.”

“The kingdom is truly terrible. Discriminating against the Beastmen.”

“Ugh! What a truly awful world!”

Levinas echoed the NPC’s line that had escaped with us, getting angry.

The kids watching the game nodded in agreement.

    “Let’s go that way.”

    “Okay!”

    “Next, let’s go over there!”

    “Alright!”

Manipulating our characters together, we arrived at a village.

We stopped by a weapon shop to buy weapons.

However, the weapon merchant who greeted us wore a contemptuous expression.

“I have no weapons to sell to your kind!”

Before we could even buy weapons, we were turned away.

Unable to hold back, Levinas attacked the weapon shop owner.

    “Hyah!”

    Thud! Thud!

As Levinas attacked the weapon shop owner, the village guard rushed in.

Overwhelmed by the guard’s strength, we ended up locked in the village prison.

    “Ugh ugh.”

Levinas screamed as he looked at the Horned Rabbit character trapped in the prison.

In this desperate situation, Levinas chose nothing other than to quit the game.

“This is a really bad game!”

“Yeah. This game probably has a really low rating!”

    Bomi, perhaps angry, snorted defiantly.

Levinas also stomped the floor from his seated position.

[This is the worst game, I agree.]

[The most terrible game for Beastmen, lol.]

“Levinas will give it a very, very low rating!”

Levinas entered the site where he purchased the game.

As we browsed the site, we could only despair again in the rating submission section.

    [Overwhelmingly Positive]

    “What the heck!”

    “How could this happen…?”

The rating for a game that discriminates against Beastmen was abnormally high.

I thought perhaps the game would show a process where discrimination disappears as you progress, but as Beastmen, we found it far too difficult to get past the beginning.

“Levinas will only give it a little score!”

    Ugh.

Angry, Levinas gave it a score of five stars.

Five points out of a possible five.

    “Levinas, what’s the maximum score?”

“Five points out of a million!”

    “I see.”

The standard for a perfect score varies from person to person.

As long as Levinas felt better, it didn’t matter how the rating was given.

    “Levinas finds Gaim boring now!”

    “Me too.”

    Hmph.

Levinas grumbled and got off his chair.

Stomping the floor as he moved back, Levinas lay down on the spot and closed his eyes.

When something makes you angry, sleep is the best remedy.

As I glanced back at Levinas, Gaeul sat down in front of the computer.

    “Gaeul wants to play Gaim!”

“Do you want to play more, Gaeul?”

    “Yes!”

    Gaeul smiled brightly and nodded.

Not giving up at any moment was Gaeul’s virtue.

I just hoped that Gaeul would clear the game well.

    **

Gaeul slowly tapped the keyboard with her index finger.

The way she moved the mouse was quite clumsy.

Even so, with my help from the side, Gaeul diligently progressed through the game.

“Spit! I have no weapons to sell you!”

Though annoyed, Gaeul held back and spoke to the weapon merchant again.

“If you really want a weapon, why not do an errand?!”

It felt like she was treating us like slaves, but Gaeul held back and did the errand.

    “Yay!”

After defeating a goblin she encountered while doing the errand, she saved a little girl.

The girl was none other than the weapon merchant’s daughter.

    “···You saved my daughter?”

“I misunderstood, I heard that Beastmen are a race that has lost their humanity…”

Gaeul’s patience and effort finally bore fruit.

The weapon merchant recognized Gaeul and began to sell her weapons.

    “Rabbit Horn! Rabbit Horn!”

Gaeul, who got off her chair, shook Levinas’s body.

He wasn’t really asleep, as Levinas opened his eyes immediately.

“Gaeul, why are you like this?”

    “Look! Look!”

Gaeul showed Levinas the game screen.

Seeing the now-friendly weapon merchant, Levinas opened his Horned Rabbit eyes wide.

“What?! How did you do that?!”

    “Gaeul was kind.”

    Ahem.

    Gaeul puffed out her chest.

Understanding Gaeul’s meaning, Levinas clapped his hands loudly.

“Kindness…! Ugh…! It turns out Levinas just needed to be kind!”

Levinas, now interested in the game again, sat down at the computer desk.

Gaeul gave up her seat to Levinas.

“Gaeul! We will play Gaim kindly!”

    “Yes!”

    **

    The next day.

    And the day after that.

The kids periodically entered Kwon Arin’s house.

Due to the long playtime of the game, we finally managed to clear it on the fourth day.

    “Ugh ugh.”

“Master, the story is so touching.”

    “Yeah. It was amazing.”

The Beastmen, who had been looked down upon by everyone, became the heroes of the kingdom.

It was a royal story, but thanks to the well-crafted plot, it didn’t feel stale.

“This is just as fun as Animal King!”

“I found it more enjoyable than Cinderella.”

The kids didn’t hold back their praise for the game.

Only then did Kwon Arin, who had helped us play the game, let out a sigh of relief.

“See? You have to play a game until the end.”

    “Yeah! Levinas learned something!”

    “Gaeul too.”

We left the game’s aftertaste behind and went to the park.

Sitting on a park bench, we talked about the game, reminiscing about the four days we had enjoyed it.

“The princess was in danger, and Levinas appeared to save her.”

“Yeah! Levinas took down the bad villain like this!”

Levinas stood up and mimicked swinging a sword.

Then, unable to contain himself, he looked around with shining eyes.

“Are we playing Levinas and Lirtz?!”

    “Yes…!”

    Lirtz Electric.

It was the title of the game we had all played together.

Suddenly, as the game was about to take shape, Bomi raised a question.

“But who plays the bad guy? The key is that someone who hates Beastmen appears at the beginning.”

At Bomi’s question, everyone just looked at each other.

We didn’t want to insult our kind, the Beastmen, even in a game.

“Isn’t it okay if there’s no bad guy…?”

    “Exactly.”

    “Everyone is good…”

Levinas trailed off and looked somewhere.

Where Levinas’s gaze landed, Hanyeoreum was walking with Jeong Yuna.

As Levinas stared at the two, he approached Hanyeoreum and Jeong Yuna.

    “Hello, Levinas!”

    “Yeah! Hello!”

Levinas smiled warmly at the two who were approaching.

Then he blurted out a shocking statement.

“Levinas has a favor to ask of Magician Yuna and Hanyeoreum!”

    “What kind of favor?”

“Could you tell me about the shortcomings of the Beastmen?!”

    “Sh-shortcomings…?”

“Yeah! While playing with everyone, I need someone to say bad things about the Beastmen!”

Hearing about saying bad things was bound to be shocking.

I explained in detail so that the two could understand.

“It’s about treating the person who says bad things kindly.”

“Oh… is that what it is?”

“Yes. There needs to be a perspective from those who aren’t Beastmen.”

“Hmm… I get the feeling, but our kids don’t have any shortcomings…”

Hanyeoreum showed signs of refusal, but Levinas didn’t even feel disappointed.

    “Is Levinas really without shortcomings?!”

    Ahem.

Levinas puffed out his chest, and Jeong Yuna chuckled, placing her hand on top of Levinas’s head.

“Shall I tell you the shortcomings of the Beastmen?”

    “Th-there are shortcomings?!”

    Levinas was taken aback.

At the mention of the shortcomings of the Beastmen, I felt a bit tense as well.

“The shortcomings of the Beastmen are…”

    “What are the shortcomings?!”

“That they are too pretty and lovely?”

    “Huh?!”

Pretty and lovely as a shortcoming?

I had no idea what that meant.
