    495 – Wonderful Modification

    495 – Wonderful Modification

We stared blankly at the woman who had suddenly appeared.

Even though we hadn’t exchanged a single word during our first meeting, she looked flustered as she gazed at us.

    ‘What is this?’

Perhaps it was strange for her to be stared at, so Gaeul extended her palm toward her.

On Gaeul’s palm, a small ant was still wandering around.

    “Ggaemmi…?”

Gaeul presented the ant to the woman.

As the woman saw the ant, she regained her composure and approached us.

    “Nice to meet you…?”

    “Yes, yes…”

    “Are you perhaps Ggaemmi…?”

    “Yes… we are Ggaem…”

    “Ah…! So…!”

What could be her purpose for visiting our guild?

My curiosity grew as she exclaimed.

“Excuse me, do you have something to discuss?”

“Oh, I’m Shin Haeil, and I came here on the introduction of the Master…”

    “Our Master?”

“Yeah. I was wondering why the Master would introduce you to me, but now I understand…”

The woman, who introduced herself as Shin Haeil, approached with a look of realization.

Her gaze was not on me, but on the bow slung across my back.

“Can I take a look at your bow for a moment?”

“This bow is precious to me…”

“I promise I won’t handle it carelessly. I’m part of the Item Guild, you know…”

Shin Haeil presented me with her business card.

I didn’t know what significance that card held, but it gave me a degree of trust.

    “Um… here you go.”

After some hesitation, I handed the bow to Shin Haeil.

As she examined the bow, she pointed to our guild’s container.

“Can I work on the bow a bit?”

    “Well, um…”

Even if she was from the Item Guild, I didn’t want to entrust my precious bow to someone I had just met.

Just as I was about to refuse, Levinas showed me his smartphone.

    “Wanga, we got a message.”

[Gyeoul, a skilled person from the Item Guild is coming. I’m busy, so I’m sending this by text.]

A concise text message from Hanyeoreum.

That alone significantly increased my trust in Shin Haeil.

Believing Hanyeoreum’s message, I decided to let Shin Haeil take care of my bow.

    **

While Shin Haeil worked on the bow, I decided to play with the kids in the park.

Should we look for more ants with Gaeul?

As we were checking under the grass, Bomi came running toward us.

    “Hey, guys! Look at this!”

On the small table Bomi brought, two cups were turned upside down.

I had no idea what purpose the cups served.

“Bomi, what are those cups for?”

    “I learned a fun game.”

    Hehe.

Bomi displayed the mischievous laughter she had when playing pranks.

Then she set the table down in front of us.

    “What is it?! What game?!”

    “Heh…”

At the mention of a fun game, the kids’ attention was drawn.

Levinas, Saebyeok, Gaeul, and I all gathered around the table Bomi had set down.

    “Look.”

Bomi picked up one of the upside-down cups and placed a chocolate inside it.

Then she flipped the cup back onto the table.

“We’re going to mix the cups, and whoever guesses the cup with the chocolate gets to keep it.”

    “What?!”

    “……!”

At the mention of chocolate, Levinas and Gaeul’s eyes sparkled.

The fun game Bomi had learned was a shell game.

I decided to focus and watch as Bomi mixed the cups.

    “Okay, mixing them like this.”

    Left, right.

Bomi mixed the cups back and forth.

She mixed them fairly quickly, but with the keen eyesight of the Beastmen, it was all visible.

    “Levinas, this one!”

    “Gaeul too.”

    “I’ll choose this one.”

Levinas, Gaeul, and even Saebyeok all picked the cup on the left.

The sound coming from inside the cup seemed a bit odd, but I chose the same cup as the kids.

Then Bomi, who had been smiling, flipped the cup over.

A small chocolate popped out from inside the cup.

“That’s right! Everyone gets a chocolate!”

Bomi handed out chocolates, each about the size of her thumb, to everyone.

I thought she would play a prank, but she was giving out chocolates.

I accepted the chocolate Bomi handed me, feeling a bit bewildered.

“The Horned Rabbit has good eyesight, so even if you mix them like this, I can see everything!”

    “Gaeul too.”

    Ahem.

Levinas and Gaeul puffed out their chests while holding the chocolates Bomi gave them.

Then Bomi lifted up a cup that we hadn’t chosen.

“But this one has this much chocolate.”

Chocolate poured out from the cup Bomi was holding.

It looked like there were about twenty pieces of chocolate.

‘No wonder the sound was strange.’

The kids’ ears perked up at the countless chocolates that spilled from the other cup.

Levinas froze, still puffing out his chest, while Gaeul collapsed onto the grass.

    Gaeul’s signature move: playing dead.

It seemed quite shocking to choose just one chocolate when there were twenty right next to her.

When I pressed Gaeul’s nose, she slowly opened her eyes.

    “Gaeul is…!”

    “Ugh, Levinas was tricked too…!”

As the kids despaired loudly, Bomi rolled her eyes back and forth.

She seemed flustered by their unexpected reactions.

    Nom.

The only one who remained unaffected was Saebyeok, who was calmly unwrapping her chocolate.

    “Saebyeok looks fine.”

    “Yeah. I have this.”

Saebyeok pulled out a folded piece of paper from her pocket.

Inside was none other than dried anchovies.

    ‘Aha.’

So she had a separate snack.

If Bomi had used anchovies instead of chocolate, would Saebyeok have been disappointed too?

As I pondered this while looking at Saebyeok, Gaeul, who had been playing dead, suddenly sprang up.

    “Gaeul too.”

    “Yeah?”

    “Gaeul wants to try too.”

Gaeul seemed eager to try the cup mixing game.

“Do you want to give it a go, Gaeul?”

    “Heh…”

Bomi handed the cups and table to Gaeul.

Then Gaeul put a small stone in the left cup and a cocoa candy in the right cup.

    Swish swish—

Gaeul mixed the cups back and forth.

She seemed to be using some skill, switching the positions of the stone and candy while mixing.

However, her speed was quite slow, allowing us to see everything.

    “Here!”

With a shout, Gaeul presented the two cups.

Without further deliberation, we all pointed to the left at the same time.

    “Here!”

    “This one.”

    “Heh…”

When Gaeul lifted the left cup, a cocoa candy appeared.

    Wow! Wow!

Just as Bomi and Levinas cheered, Gaeul lifted the opposite cup.

What appeared was the stone Gaeul had initially placed inside.

    “Ahem.”

Gaeul puffed out her chest from behind the stone.

    We stared blankly at Gaeul.

Was the stone better than the cocoa candy?

As I tilted my head in confusion, Gaeul’s eyes widened.

It seemed she was flustered that we weren’t surprised by the appearance of such a wonderful stone.

“Wow. I can’t believe there was a stone next to it.”

Saebyeok seemed to have sensed Gaeul’s feelings and made a surprised expression at the sight of the stone.

The kids pretended to be surprised for Gaeul.

“Ugh, I can’t believe there was a stone.”

    “This is unbelievable.”

Levinas and Bomi dramatically knelt down.

As Gaeul watched them intently, she handed out the stones to everyone.

“Are you giving us stones even though we didn’t pick them?”

    “Cool!”

“Thanks, then I’ll share my chocolate too.”

    Bomi distributed chocolates to everyone.

After receiving stones from Gaeul and chocolates from Bomi, Shin Haeil, who had been working on the bow, approached us.

“I’ve finished the basic modifications for now.”

    “Modifications…?”

Our eyes, which had been focused on unwrapping chocolates, turned to Shin Haeil.

    **

I examined the bow I received from Shin Haeil.

It didn’t seem to have changed externally.

    “Where was it modified?”

“Want to try putting Mana into the bow? Just a little will do.”

    “Um…”

Following Shin Haeil’s instructions, I pushed Mana into the bow.

I avoided inserting an item that would enlarge the arrows.

    Click-clack—! Click-clack—!

As soon as the Mana touched it, the bow began to change.

The bow, which had been twisting like a machine, soon became massive like a longbow.

It was like a transformation scene from a robot cartoon that the kids watched.

    “Wow! Wowww!”

    “Whoa!”

The kids clapped at the bow’s transformation scene.

It was quite an impressive transformation, and I couldn’t help but admire it.

“Can it be returned to its original state?”

“Yeah. You just need to put in the same amount of Mana again.”

As I followed Shin Haeil’s explanation and infused Mana, the bow clicked back to its original form.

    “Wanga, do it again! Again!”

    “Wow!”

With the kids’ eager eyes upon me, I transformed the bow several times.

    Click-clack—! Click-clack—!

    Click-clack—! Click-clack—!

While transforming the bow repeatedly for the kids, I conversed with Shin Haeil.

“But what’s the benefit of transforming it?”

“Well, the best part is this.”

Shin Haeil raised her index finger.

I stopped transforming the bow and focused on what Shin Haeil was about to say.

    “It’s cool.”

    “Uh…?”

“Isn’t it really cool to see it transform?”

    “Um…”

    It is cool, but…

Is that really all there is to it?

I looked up at Shin Haeil with a puzzled expression.

“Coolness is quite important; it can change your combat power just by being cool.”

“Levinas thinks the same! Coolness is really, really important!”

    “Majyo!”

    Levinas and Gaeul nodded vigorously.

At this, Shin Haeil smiled with satisfaction.

“You guys know a thing or two, huh?”

    “Um…”

I thought something amazing would come out of it.

Could it really just be about being cool…?

    Click-clack—! Click-clack—!

I looked down at the bow that transformed through Mana.

    It was indeed cool.
