Mesugaki Tank Enters the Academy –
    245

From the day Phoebe was saved
by Lucy Allen, the true Apostle of Armadi, she tried to stay by
    Lucy’s side whenever possible.

    Whether Lucy was attending
    classes, eating, or training.

    Unless it was something
related to the Church that forced Phoebe to leave, she always kept
    Lucy in her sight.

Even though she was aware of
the rumour that she favoured Lucy because of these actions.

It wasn’t that she didn’t know
her behaviour could be a nuisance. Sometimes, she even wondered if
Lucy might be avoiding her because of it.

    Nevertheless, the reason
Phoebe couldn’t leave Lucy’s side was because being next to her made
her feel the warmth of God.

    It made her anxieties
    disappear.

It gave her confidence in her
    faith.

    And because Phoebe considered
Lucy Allen a precious person. There was something about her confident
and unwavering demeanour that seemed precarious, making it impossible
    for Phoebe to look away.

    In the process, Phoebe learned
    a few things about Lucy.

    Firstly, she was strict with
others and just as strict with herself.

Lucy would always be the first
to arrive at the training ground every morning, enduring the harshest
training and moving her body until the latest hours.

    It seemed like there wasn’t
even a moment for rest, let alone studying, yet Lucy consistently
achieved the highest grades in the Midterm Exams.

    Watching her, Phoebe couldn’t
help but wonder if Lady Lucy ever got any sleep.

    Next was the realisation that
she was definitely a kind person.

    Although her expression was
often sharp and her tone sarcastic, it was difficult to notice that
she would always respond with goodwill as long as no hostility was
    shown first.

    Knowing that people were
afraid of her, she deliberately kept to herself during meals or
classes, staying in places where she wouldn’t be noticed.

    Whenever someone made a
request, she would readily nod in agreement.

Even if it was someone who had
previously been jealous of or hated her, like the Third Prince or her
former self, if she thought they might be in danger, she would
willingly make an effort to help them.

    Having observed all this,
Phoebe understood why Joy liked Lucy and why God chose her as His
    Apostle.

    She was certainly someone who
    deserved God’s favour.

    Finally, Phoebe learned
    something about Lucy’s tone.

    She always used a provocative
tone and looked at others with a mix of sarcasm, regardless of
whether they were commoners or royalty. However, there was a slight
difference between her usual tone and the one she used when she
    genuinely intended to belittle someone.

You could say it was a tone
    meant to provoke.

    Sharp, distinct, annoying –
a tone that made even Phoebe feel a hint of red in her heart as she
    listened.

    Lucy occasionally used this
    tone.

    To draw the attention of
    monsters.

    To unsettle her opponent’s
    emotions during sparring.

    And to genuinely infuriate
someone when she meant to criticise them.

    Just as she did now.

    “Why are you upset?♡
Isn’t it such an honour to receive affection from a girl like me that
it’s almost shameful and embarrassing and thus you must deny it?♡
Honestly, if anyone should be upset, it should be me for being
entangled with someone like the Inferior Duke, don’t you think?♡”

    “You’re speaking
    nonsense.”

    “Oh. Is that it?♡ Maybe
our Inferior Duke is just an innocent boy in his puberty who doesn’t
know what to do because he’s so embarrassed?♡ I understand♡ Guys
who’ve never held a girl’s hand are all like that♡”

    Lucy giggled as she watched
the Burrow Heir’s face turn bright red. It was clear she was trying
    to make him angry.

    The reason was obvious.

    Phoebe had made a mistake.

Phoebe had come to the Burrow
Family today at Lucy’s request. She was asked if she could help
detect any irregularities in Duke Burrow’s illness. When Lucy made
the request, Phoebe readily agreed without hesitation.

She had always been the one to
    receive help from Lucy.

    If she could repay that
salvation, even in a small way, and contribute to fulfilling God’s
will, Phoebe was willing to do anything. The word refusal did not
    exist in her mind.

    With that firm determination,
she visited the Burrow Family, but everything was too peaceful.

    The Duke Burrow, who was
supposed to be seriously ill, was perfectly fine without any sign of
illness. The Duchess seemed only a bit tired without any other
strange symptoms. There was not a single unusual thing to find within
    the Duke’s Mansion.

Phoebe felt a mix of relief
and surprise, realising that even someone as seemingly perfect as
    Lucy could make mistakes.

    If something abnormal existed,
it meant there was a problem, and a problem meant someone would be
    unhappy.

So, the best outcome was that
there was no problem at all. Even if it meant she couldn’t repay
    Lucy’s kindness.

    However, Phoebe overlooked one
    crucial fact.

Lucy is an Apostle of God.
Whenever her actions seem incomprehensible, it always meant there was
    divine intention behind them.

    This situation was no
different. Lucy had never shown any particular interest in the Burrow
Family before, even though the absence of the Burrow Heir had been
    well-known.

    Then, suddenly, she decided to
lead the situation, insisting they must visit the Burrow Family.

What did this mean? It meant
that this wasn’t Lucy’s intention but God’s will.

    God had given Lucy a
revelation that there was a problem in the Burrow Family; how could
    there be any mistake?

    There definitely was something
wrong in the mansion. They just hadn’t discovered it yet.

    “I didn’t expect so many
visitors would come to see me.”

    Phoebe realised this only
    after seeing the Burrow Heir.

    “It’s been a long time.”

    She realised it only after
seeing the desire churning in his eyes.

    She realised it only after
seeing the black aura, so familiar to Phoebe, lurking within him.

    She understood.

    She awakened to the truth.

The Evil God, who had once
tried to tempt Phoebe, had now shifted its target to the Burrow
    Family.

    Realising this, Phoebe was so
shocked that she stood up abruptly.

    Even though she should not
reveal that she had noticed the anomaly, she couldn’t help but show
    it.

    “Saint? Is there
    something wrong?”

    When Jack’s gaze turned
towards her, Phoebe couldn’t utter a single word amidst her
    confusion.

    Even though she knew she
needed to handle the situation and was fully aware that staying
silent might ruin God’s plan, her mind went completely blank,
preventing her from even making the simplest excuse.

Lucy was the one who managed
the situation. Whether it was true or not, she casually dismissed
what would surely become a malicious and humiliating rumour.

By doing so, she diverted the
Burrow Heir’s attention and erased Phoebe’s mistake as if it never
    happened.

    ‘Phoebe, what on earth are
    you doing?

You came here to help Lady
    Allen, to repay her kindness.

    Yet, you’re almost sabotaging
God’s will and receiving help from her instead!’

    Blushing with embarrassment
over her blunder, Phoebe clutched at her skirt. Meanwhile, the
argument between Lucy and Jack continued unabated.

    “Oh, I was wondering what
the Inferior Duke believed in, and it turns out he believes in his
own cuteness! I’ll admit it! Your hair is cute! Your spear skills are
cute! Your height is cute! How about wearing a dress? I’m sure it
    would suit you perfectly!”

    “And Lucy Allen, you’re
just as lacking in femininity! Who would ever like someone like you!”

    “Pahaha! It seems your
eyesight is just as cute! Here you have such a cute girl in front of
you, and you can’t even recognize it. How unfortunate! I wonder if
you’ll ever be able to continue the family line at this rate!”

    “Ha! It’s truly laughable
hearing such words from a vile-tempered woman who can only resort to
    taunting.”

    “Both of you, please
moderate yourselves. The quiet mansion will be filled with your
    commotion.”

    Fortunately, Arthur was there.
When Arthur, bearing the status of a prince, spoke with an air of
exasperation, Jack quieted down first, followed by Lucy, who also
    went silent.

    As everyone sensed the uneasy
atmosphere between Lucy, who looked down at Jack with disdain, and
Jack, trembling as if ready to pounce, Duke Partan returned to the
    reception room.

    He glanced around the room,
shrugged his shoulders, and suggested they leave.

    ‘…Well. It’s nothing
    special.’

On the way back after the
    Duke’s family’s visit was over.

    The moment I entered the
dormitory, Grandpa complimented me, but I couldn’t purely accept
    his praise.

At first, I did provoke Jack
    to catch his attention.

    But halfway through, it wasn’t
    just that.

As we talked, my temper flared
    up.

Even thinking about it now, it
    still irks me.

Why does that bastard act like
he’s the only one who’s upset?

How awful is it to be
associated with a guy like him, who everyone wouldn’t even bother
with after completing just one related quest due to his mediocre
    looks, story, and performance!

    It’s truly absurd!

    If Arthur hadn’t interrupted,
I would have continued provoking that jerk until he threw the first
    punch, then crushed him!

    As I was internally lamenting
my missed opportunity, I heard a knock at the door.

    Even without opening it, I
already had a hunch about who it was on the other side. No one I know
    possesses such warm divine energy.

    ‘Welcome. Phoebe.’

    “Welcome, Sloppy Saint.”

    “Excuse me. Lady Allen.”

    As Phoebe awkwardly entered my
room, I activated the magic on my ring to block the sound from
    reaching the outside.

    Since Phoebe was so surprised,
what she had to say must not be something for others to hear.

    Upon entering the room, Phoebe
immediately bowed her head. She almost ruined things today, or so she
    said.

    I couldn’t understand her
apology. If it weren’t for Phoebe, we wouldn’t have even figured out
what was happening at Duke Burrow’s house. Why was she saying she
    nearly ruined things?

    ‘It’s fine, Phoebe.’

“Do you see me as such a
    petty person? Sloppy Saint?”

    “What? No! That’s not
    it.”

    ‘Don’t worry about it.’

    “It’s okay. It was
    nothing much.”

    “…How merciful you
    are!”

    After finally calming Phoebe,
who kept bowing her head repeatedly while marvelling at the Apostle
of Armadi’s mercy, I asked her the most important question.

What exactly did you see from
that Inferior Duke that shocked you so much?

    “…I sensed the Aura of
the Evil God from him. It’s the same aura that once clung to me.”

    …Wait a minute.

Is the problem with the Burrow
Family related to the dark Evil God?

    [Quest Cleared!]

    [You have successfully
identified the abnormality within the Burrow Family.]

    [Calculating rewards! Please
    wait a moment!]

As soon as I heard Phoebe’s
words, several messages appeared before me.

    The meaning was clear.

    What Phoebe just said is
    absolutely true.

    …Oh. So, something I thought
impossible turned out to be true.

    I’m pretty flustered, but
there’s one thing I know for sure.

I’ve got a justified reason to
    punch Jack’s face now.
