Mesugaki Tank Enters the Academy –
233
The fact that the Second
Prince would resort to such petty actions was expected.
On the contrary, I found it
odd that he hadn’t taken any steps until now. The guy I know would
do anything to win.
However, I didn’t expect him
to stoop this low.
No matter how much you want to
beat me, this isn’t the way, is it?
I understand that you’re
determined to win by any means necessary.
But you know what? You’ve
forgotten the most important thing, you idiot!
From the start, your goal was
to recruit me! Do you think I’d want to join you after this? You
Idiot Prince!
‘Both, I’d say.’
Grandpa tried to deny the
absurdity of the situation based on common sense, but that didn’t
change the reality before our eyes.
The men sprawled out in the
alley were undoubtedly here to obstruct me.
‘Sigh.’
When I sighed in disbelief
along with Grandpa, Karia let out a chuckle.
“He was such an endearing
person back in the day. It seems the Duchess Bedfor’s education
wasn’t so great after all.”
Her words hit the nail on the
head.
The person who greatly
influenced the character of the Second Prince was, in fact, that
Duchess.
But now, it doesn’t matter
anymore.
The woman who labelled her own
son as a failure must certainly have no expectations left for him.
The same goes for recruiting
me.
“Be careful, Employer. Since
he’s going to these lengths, there’s no telling what he might try
next. Although I don’t believe you’ll be in any real danger,
there’s always the chance, right?”
Karia’s warning was spot-on.
After that, various hindrances kept coming my way.
Starting from minor annoyances
like my training equipment going missing to attempts to break into my
dormitory when I wasn’t around.
It was clear that the Second
Prince had already given up the idea of recruiting me.
Otherwise, why would he resort
to such insane behaviour?
At first, I tried to laugh off
these incidents since I had openly provoked him, but the repeated
occurrences started to rile me up.
So, time passed, and on the
day the entrance to the Academy Dungeon finally opened, I awoke with
a single thought.
Disciplining the Second
Prince!
I need to properly discipline
that bastard, the Second Prince.
It’s the greatest
humiliation as a man and as a human to be disciplined by the very
Mesugaki he was supposed to teach a lesson to.
It will serve as a fitting
punishment for the Idiot who has done all sorts of filthy things just
to beat me.
[The Second Prince of the
Soladin Kingdom has challenged you! Show him his place!]
[Subdue the Second Prince!]
Even the mighty Armadi desires
it, so as his Apostle, how could I not faithfully carry out his will?
At first, I suspected Armadi
might be trying to kill me, but now I see it differently. He was
merely anticipating the thoughts I would come to have in the future.
Ah, Armadi! I trust in you!
After finishing my light
morning prayer, I got up from bed and stretched.
There was still some time
before the Dungeon’s entrance opened, so I decided to warm up my
body in the meantime.
Starting off with a good pace
was crucial if I wanted to clear the Academy Dungeon before the doors
closed.
As usual, I got ready and
headed to the training ground where Frey was waiting for me.
She was dozing off while
leaning on her sword but perked up and greeted me nonchalantly when
she sensed my presence.
“You’re going to the
Dungeon today, right?”
‘Of course.’
“Of course. I’m curious to
see how sloppy the Dungeon created by the totally sloppy Academy will
be.”
“Same members as usual?”
Members? What members? I’m
planning to enter the Dungeon alone today.
That’s when I realised I
hadn’t told anyone about my plan.
‘I’ll be entering alone
today.’
“I’m enough to conquer
a sloppy dungeon like this by myself.”
“Lady Allen?! What are
you talking about?!”
When I turned around, I saw
Joy’s horrified eyes and realised the conversation wouldn’t end
easily.
Failure. Failure. Failure.
Failure. Failure.
Most of the reports Cecil
received ended with the word failure.
Many attempts were made to
hinder Lucy Allen, but none had any significant impact on her.
That was the conclusion made
in many reports.
Though Cecil’s subordinate,
who led these efforts, mentioned that the mental exhaustion would
have some effect on Dungeon Conquest, it wasn’t very convincing.
However, Cecil brushed it off
lightly.
There would be time to
question the responsibility for the failures later.
More important was something
else.
Cecil had recently obtained a
map of the Academy Dungeon.
Using his extensive
connections, he had managed to recruit a professor within the
Academy, and as a result, he secured the Dungeon’s map containing all
the details about the Academy Dungeon.
The map detailed the structure
of the Dungeon, the types of monsters on each floor, the
characteristics of each level, and the strategies for defeating the
bosses every ten floors.
Cecil was ecstatic when he got
his hands on it.
‘With this, with just
this…
I can conquer the Academy
Dungeon in the shortest time possible.
I can defeat Lucy Allen.
I can achieve what even my
older brother couldn’t.
I can beat him.
The First Prince.
The opponent I’ve never won
against, I can finally overcome.’
“Everyone.”
Standing in front of the
Academy Dungeon’s entrance, he scanned the faces of his companions
for today.
They were all top-notch Second
Year students known for their exceptional combat skills.
Those who had ventured outside
the Academy with Cecil to conquer many dungeons.
Warriors who would undoubtedly
capture great achievements in battlefields once they became knights.
“Are you ready?”
Seeing the confident smiles
etched on his party members’ faces, he nodded in satisfaction and
looked forward again.
Cecil had prepared
meticulously for this moment.
By defeating Lucy Allen and
breaking the previous shortest record set by the First Prince.
To prove his competence.
To dispel his incompetence.
“Let’s move.”
“You don’t need to
worry about us, Lady Allen. We are not so weak that we would suffer
disadvantages by getting involved in this duel.”
“That’s right, Lucy
Allen. You’ve given me the grace of growth until now, so I can easily
handle a little whim from the Second Prince.”
When Joy and Arthur heard that
I intended to attack the Academy Dungeon alone, they seemed to think
it was out of consideration for them.
They thought I was shouldering
everything myself to prevent any harm from coming to them if they got
entangled with the Second Prince.
But I never thought like that.
I just preferred to go into
the dungeon alone, finding it more convenient, and I never expected
to be misunderstood like this.
It was incredibly difficult to
convince those who had already made up their minds. No matter how I
explained, it would come off as a lame excuse, exposing my true
intentions and making me embarrassed.
“Since when did you start
caring about others?”
“Right. Please act as you
usually do, Lady.”
‘No, I’m serious!’
“Why can’t you understand
what I’m saying? Do you think sloppy people like you could help me?
Your self-esteem is sky-high.”
“Haha. You are truly
stubborn.”
“We understand that you are
considerate of us, Lady, but…”
“Yeah, yeah. I also want to
enter the dungeon with you.”
Still, I didn’t dislike the
process of persuading them.
Because I realised that Joy
and Arthur’s misunderstanding stemmed from their affection for me.
If these two didn’t have a
favourable opinion of me, they wouldn’t dare to say they would help
me at the risk of incurring the Second Prince’s wrath.
Frey?
She doesn’t care whether the
Second Prince hates her or not. She just wants to enter the dungeon
with me.
Ever since she was promoted
from Sloppy Swordsman to Foolish Swordsman, she’s been following me
around strangely.
In the end, I managed to
persuade my friends by saying that if a crisis arose during our
dungeon explorations, I would ask for their help. So, I succeeded in
entering the Academy Dungeon alone.
The first thing I felt upon
entering the Academy Dungeon was the cold.
The chill seeped through the
gaps in my armour, piercing my skin and making my bones ache. To
combat this, I cloaked myself in divine energy.
The divine energy, warm like
the sun, naturally chased away the cold.
Even in the midst of winter, I
could feel cosy and warm.
Looking around, I saw a snowy
landscape.
An endless snowfield,
extending as far as the eye could see, with nothing but snow in every
direction.
Alright. With the position of
the frozen tree confirmed, I’ve determined my current location.
Shall I get moving, then?
As I was warming up, Grandpa
called out to me.
‘Yes?’
Why is Grandpa saying this
too? I’ve always told him it’s more convenient to enter alone!
Do you really think I’d care
about the Second Prince’s resentment to others when I’m so
politically inexperienced?!
No, I don’t!
‘That’s true.’
‘…Well, this is the
thing.’
Having more people is an
advantage in itself.
In fact, when I played Soul
Academy, except for moments of restricted play, I always made sure my
party was full.
Even during speed runs, having
more people was better.
Despite this, the reason I
chose to go alone is that I wouldn’t need to explain my numerous
outlandish actions to others.
‘It’s hard to explain in
words. You’ll understand when you see it.’
While continuing the
conversation, I finished applying various buffs and intentionally
made noise as I dashed forward.
Soon, a rumbling sound from
afar began to approach this way.
It sensed my presence and was
moving towards me.
And then it appeared—a Yeti.
A monster known as the ruler
of the snowfield.
Its overwhelming physical
strength is said to rival that of an ogre.
It’s not an enemy you would
typically encounter on the first floor of a dungeon.
Why is it here?
The Academy hasn’t made
another mistake.
It’s just the concept of the
Second Semester Dungeon itself.
The Academy’s Second Semester
Dungeon is designed to make you experience various gimmicks within
the dungeon.
It’s a place that teaches
you how to overcome areas that can’t be conquered using standard
methods.
The Yeti is a prime example.
This creature wasn’t placed
here for you to defeat. It’s meant for you to evade it while
tackling the dungeon.
So, under normal strategy, the
right way would be to avoid the Yeti and find the exit.
But I didn’t do that.
“Grrrrr.”
Instead, I raised my shield
and charged straight at the Yeti, towards its swinging fist.
Just as the Yeti’s fist was
about to hit me, I used one of the prepared Scrolls.
The magic contained within was
a weight-reducing spell.
What I made lighter was my own
weight. As the magic took effect, my body, now light as if I were
standing on the moon, was lifted by the mass of the Yeti’s punch,
sending me floating into the air.
‘Most of what I’ll be doing
from now on is like this!’
This is my shortest route.
It’s a type of advanced
player strategy.
