Mesugaki Tank Enters the Academy –
194
The mini-games of the Partan
Territory Festival Quest consist of half physical ability and half
luck.
Enhancing stats can reduce the
difficulty of this wretched game, but that’s all. There was no way to
pass it without completing the mini-games.
The parts that could be solved
with physical ability could be overcome by skill in the game.
But for issues that needed to
be resolved with luck, there was no method. Apart from preparing as
much as fully possible and praying to the heavens for success.
When I failed with a 1%
chance, I was so furious that I couldn’t say anything.
Ultimately, the part I needed
to focus on was the luck element.
Because I could always
overcome the physical challenges, eliminating the slightest chance of
failure was crucial.
However, now it’s the complete
opposite.
Luck is fine. I have Dice
God’s favour, allowing me to score above average in exams when
guessing.
While I might not win every
time, I could achieve fairly decent results.
But now there’s a problem with
the once-reliable physical aspect.
My weakened body is unable to
perform the usual rigorous training.
According to Grandpa’s
judgement, even Joy could beat me in a physical fight now!
With this pathetic body, I
can’t pass the festival’s mini-games!
If I go unprepared, I’d have
to succumb to Lord Armadi’s perverse desires.
If there was a suitable dress,
I planned to just fail and wear that instead.
But wow. I was genuinely
shocked while going through each of Lucy’s outfits.
How could there be nothing but
landmines in her wardrobe?
No matter how terrible a game
is, there should at least be one Safe Section out of courtesy!
After returning to the mansion
and imprinting Lucy’s various clothes in my mind, I decided to visit
the auction house in the Kingdom Trade City, Nig, as soon as it
opened.
“Perverted Fox…”
“You’re asking me to
remove your nausea, right?”
Thanks to the fox’s help, I
got over my nausea and stepped outside the area where the
Teleportation Team’s device was set up, with Erin supporting me.
As I took in the sights of the
Kingdom Trade City, Nig, I couldn’t help but let out a sigh.
There were so many people.
While I had anticipated some crowding from my time in the game, this
was beyond expectations.
At this level, we should call
it a Human Wall, not a crowd. There’s no way to move forward.
“Excuse me, Miss.”
As I frowned, feeling my
nausea returning, Possell lifted me up and placed me on his shoulder.
“Trust me. We’ll get
through comfortably.”
Possell, smiling in a way that
would surely make a baby cry, looked particularly reliable today.
Yeah, against overwhelming
strength, even a Human Wall is powerless.
Today, it wasn’t Karl but
Possell who was assigned to be my escort.
The reason was simple. That
guy Karl… Ever since returning to the Allen Family, he’s been
training so hard, it’s like he’s trying to die from it.
It seems that Karl feels
burdened by his defeat at Karia’s hands in the Menestail Dungeon.
Personally, I think Karia was
just exceptionally strong, and Karl did as much as he could. But if
he’s not satisfied, what can I do?
Since Karl is out of
commission, someone else had to take over as my escort. Given my
physical condition, Benedict was quite picky about who was allowed to
protect me.
After a lot of back-and-forth,
Possell was chosen. He is the second strongest knight in the Allen
Family, capable of defending me against any potential threats.
I once heard that while
Possell can’t win against Benedict, he can hold out and prolong the
fight.
I didn’t realise how
remarkable this was back then.
But now I understand. Going
toe-to-toe in a war of attrition against someone who can counter the
attacks of an Evil God head-on—that’s incredible.
To his enemies, he is
terrifying, but to his allies, he’s the most reliable asset one
could hope for.
As I watched Possell
effortlessly push through the crowd, I couldn’t help but think how
dependable he seemed. Then, Grandpa’s voice chimed in.
‘What’s that supposed to
mean?’
Ah, so Grandpa is feeling
jealous? Because I’m praising someone other than him? Bwahaha!
Despite usually being a grumpy old man who nags a lot, Grandpa can be
cute sometimes.
‘Really? Were you stronger
than Benedict, Grandpa?’
‘Oh, come on. That’s a
lie. You’re just boasting because you can’t prove it.’
Grandpa’s words are likely
true. After all, it was Paladin Ruel and his comrades who fought and
defeated a fully unleashed Evil God.
In his prime, Grandpa was
definitely a monster beyond human capabilities.
But it’s just too funny. The
same old Grandpa who always nags, now sulking because he wants some
praise. It’s impossible to tell him the truth.
‘Don’t old stories tend to
be exaggerated?’
While I was fooling around
with Grandpa, the Possell Express was navigating its way and dropped
me off in front of the Auction House.
Unlike the bustling streets
filled with merchants and customers, the area around the Auction
House was relatively quiet.
Given that only wealthy
merchants or nobles of a certain rank could enter, the strict
security kept it safe from crowds.
Just as I started to stretch,
thinking I could finally breathe, my happiness was shattered in an
instant.
“I apologise, Lady Allen.
You are not allowed to enter.”
As I attempted to go inside
the auction house, the Auction House Manager suddenly rushed out and
blocked my way.
This was completely
unexpected. After all, I am a Count’s daughter.
And not just any Count’s
family, but the one from the renowned Allen Family, famous across the
continent!
I should more than meet the
entrance requirements for Nig Auction House, so what’s the
problem?!
‘Why can’t I go in?!’
“Hey, you block headed
idiot. Why not? Give me a convincing explanation.”
I pressed him, unable to
understand the reason, and the manager, sweating profusely, stammered
his response.
The issue stemmed from the
past misdeeds of Lucy, before I came to possess her body.
Lucy used to indulge in
luxury, unable to resist anything extravagant.
So it was only natural that
she frequented Nig Auction House in search of the items she desired.
Lucy, who was notorious for
her outrageous behaviour, offended even the gods and was a
troublesome presence wherever she went. Inevitably, she caused
problems at the Nig Auction House as well.
Whenever she failed to obtain
an item she wanted, she would go after the higher bidder and create a
scene.
Not just once, but habitually.
As a result, those who feared
Lucy’s atrocities stopped attending auctions, forcing Nig Auction
House to make a decision.
They completely banned Lucy
Allen from entering as she was the root of the problem.
I felt wronged. I wasn’t the
one who caused all that trouble. However, no matter how unfair it
seemed, the karma attached to this body wouldn’t just disappear.
Infuriated by the teasing old
man’s voice, which was likely revenge for the teasing he endured
earlier, I lightly bit my lip just as the Head of Security put his
head to the ground.
“I’m sorry! However, it’s
the rule, so there’s nothing I can do!”
Even though he was terrified
of what kind of trouble I might cause, the manager still managed to
express his remorse, giving the impression of a seasoned member of
society.
What should I do?
To cling to even a small hope,
I needed to get inside the auction house.
However, there was no way to
get in using normal means since I was blacklisted.
Despite trying hard to come up
with a solution as I bit my lip, no good idea came to mind.
The fact that I didn’t
anticipate such a problem was the major issue. If I’d known in
advance, I would have come up with some plan!
…Should I use the [Mesugaki]
skill to its fullest and throw a fit? If I can provoke them into
attacking first, at least I’d have a justification.
“Miss.”
Possell’s voice snapped me out
of my thoughts, and I looked up at him, questioning him with my eyes.
“Look around you.”
Around me?
Only then did I shift my gaze
and notice the myriad of eyes directed at me.
Curiosity. Interest in gossip.
Concern. Fear. Unease.
“It might be better to step
back for now.”
He was right.
If I caused any more trouble
here, it would certainly add to Lucy’s notoriety.
Though it was hard to imagine
my reputation falling any further, I still needed to be mindful of
the few good relationships I had cultivated.
As I nodded, Possell once
again lifted me onto his shoulder.
After retreating from the
auction house’s entrance, I sought out the Newman Family’s stronghold
in Nig.
The auction house was a
gathering place for various nobles and tycoons. It was impossible for
someone like me to enter such a place by illegitimate means alone.
While I could rely on
Possell’s strength to force my way in, that would prevent me from
participating in the auction properly.
I wanted to buy items, not
steal them.
Given the unexpected
circumstances and my lack of preparation, the only place I could rely
on was the Newman Family.
A giant in the underworld with
a network spread across the continent. If I could borrow some power
from that place, I might find a solution.
The Newman Family’s stronghold
in Nig appeared as a shabby souvenir shop.
It was the kind of shop filled
with items that looked charming when you’re excited from
travelling, but then clutter your house.
When our group first entered,
the shop clerk greeted us with a bright smile and recommended various
items. However, the moment I presented the Raven’s Seal, his
demeanour changed.
“Please, come inside!
There are far better items inside!”
Naturally, what lay further
inside wasn’t more souvenirs.
It was the people working
under the Newman Family.
Despite having pre-warned Erin
and Possell just in case, they both widened their eyes upon seeing
the interior of the stronghold.
“Welcome. Benefactor of
the Newman Family. My name is Ki, and I manage this stronghold.”
Though the man gave a light
impression for an informant, he introduced himself formally, but it
didn’t mean much.
‘Hello, Ki.’
“Yeah. Nice to meet you,
Thug. You look like someone who would steal another man’s girl.”
Once the [Mesugaki] skill
identified him as a thug, that title stuck.
I explained my situation to
him, who now had a troubled smile.
I wanted to enter the auction
house but couldn’t. Was there any way?
“There are a few methods,
indeed.”
The thug replied without much
hesitation. The security at the Nig Auction House is indeed tight,
but there are ways to bypass it.
“However, there is one
issue. The Lady is too beautiful, which makes her stand out.”
But getting inside doesn’t
guarantee the problem is solved. If you get caught going in through
illegal means, you’ll be immediately kicked out.
“That’s why I suggest we
consider a disguise.”
A disguise?
