Mesugaki Tank Enters the Academy –
    158

The main story of Soul Academy
is divided into three major branches.

    First, there’s the storyline
involving the Evil God, who is currently making every effort to
    destroy me.

Long ago, my Grandpa and a
group of warriors successfully sealed the Evil God, but a seal cannot
    last forever.

    This premise serves as the
    main backstory of Soul Academy.

If you fail to defeat the Evil
God within a certain time, it’s game over.

    Regardless of the concept or
route you take, if you want to see the end of the game, you’ll need
to deal with the Evil God.

I think this is what Armadi
    wants from me.

The Petty Evil God seems to
harbour a lot of ill feelings towards this side, considering how much
he interferes with me in comparison.

    Well, it’s only natural they
wouldn’t view those who monopolised power under the name of good
gods or the main gods kindly.

    Another story involves the
    corrupt Church of Armadi.

    Based on Phoebe’s case, I
can see there are many unsavoury characters there who are far from
clean. Delving into this storyline will reveal all sorts of shady
    scenes.

And the final main story is
related to the kingdom in which Soul Academy exists.

It’s a story based on the
power struggle over who will hold the throne, with the final boss in
this storyline being the current kingdom’s First Prince.

    The person closest to
    succeeding the throne.

    Rene Soladin.

Yes, the very person Lucy just
called Hikikomori prince in that recent document.

    This means that, without even
knowing it, I’ve picked a fight with the final boss.

    Past Lucy was indeed a
madwoman who would call the king a smelly livestock pig to his face.

Would such a Lucy have held
back her words when confronting the First Prince? No way!

She must have hurled all sorts
of insults right in front of the First Prince!

    Sigh.
Even without this, he’s someone who’d be an utter hassle if I got on
his bad side, but now I have to start with him already completely
    hostile towards me.

    I seriously feel like throwing
    up.

For now, I’m still in the
Academy tutorial phase so I don’t have to see his face, but once I
become a second-year student, there will be times we’ll run into each
    other.

    Ugh. I’m already struggling to
avoid Cecil whenever I see him around the Academy, and if I have to
    worry about Rene too…

    It’s absolutely horrifying.
    Seriously.

    ‘Yes, Grandpa?’

    ‘Pardon?’

    At first, I thought Grandpa
was shocked by my completely changed demeanour, but as I listened, I
    realised that wasn’t the case.

    Grandpa was blatantly mocking
    me.

It was like he had discovered
his granddaughter’s dark past documented in a diary and was
    cracking up while reading it.

He’s really aged in a useless
way. If I hadn’t witnessed it in the Mental World, I would have
seriously doubted whether this man was a hero at all.

‘Do I look like that type of
    person now?’

    But Grandpa, no matter what
you say, it doesn’t affect me in the slightest. After all, it wasn’t
    something I did myself.

    As I reacted nonchalantly to
Grandpa’s continued teasing, he coughed uneasily and continued
    speaking.

    ‘But if Grandpa keeps
bothering me, I might just go back to the way I was.’

    But seriously, it’s amazing
that Lucy managed to survive until now.

    With this much trouble caused,
you’d think she’d end up on the guillotine, Count’s daughter or not.

    Looking at how Benedict dealt
with most of the issues Lucy caused, it seems likely he’s involved.
    I’m really curious.

    I wonder if Alsatine knows
    about this too.

    ‘Hey, Alsatine…’

    “Hey, info dealer. Let’s
drop this and talk about something else. What kind of person is my
    silly father, anyway?”

    Cleaning up after insulting
the king too. Cleaning up after insulting the prince and causing a
    ruckus at the church.

    These aren’t exactly the
things a normal person can handle.

    Just who is Benedict Allen?

    “…You’re saying Sir
Benedict Allen’s daughter doesn’t know about him?”

    Curious, I asked Alsatine, and
he looked at me in astonishment.

As if to say, how could the
daughter of the Allen Family not know that?

    Yeah, I know it’s really
    unusual. But you know what?

    ‘Why should I know about
    that?’

“Why should I care about the
stupid mistakes my silly old man made?”

    Think about it logically.

Do you think someone who can
forget insulting both the king and the prince would remember anything
    about her father?

    When I brought out my
invincible Lucy defence, Alsatine looked flustered, then strangely
understanding as he gazed into space with a pitying expression.

    What is it?

    Why that reaction?

    ‘Grandpa, not you too!’

    Looking back after hearing
Grandpa’s words, I realised how awful I was.

No matter how much of a jerk
he was, he ran around everywhere trying to save his daughter, but
that daughter’s response was What does it matter to me what my
    father does?

But I am not Lucy! Because of
that bastard who created the Mesugaki Mod, I’m just a poor victim
    possessing Lucy’s body!

    How would I know anything
    about Benedict?

    He doesn’t even appear in
    the game!

    Though I desperately tried to
prove that I wasn’t trash to myself, it was all in vain.

It was just an empty cry that
I couldn’t share with anyone else.

    ‘…Yes.’

    Grandpa’s words were so
sensible that I could do nothing but nod.

    It’s unfair. I didn’t do
    anything wrong.

    “Sir Benedict Allen is a
    hero who saved the nation.”

    Alsatine started reciting
Benedict’s deeds in front of me as if he didn’t need to look up
    any information.

    The act of single-handedly
repelling the dragon that threatened the royal castle.

    Leading the family knights
during an S-rank dungeon crisis that endangered the country.

    Resolving a conflict with
another nation just by his name.

    There were a few more
achievements that Benedict accomplished during his prime.

For Grandpa, who was once a
hero who saved the world, to utter the word monster about someone,
Benedict must have been a living legend.

Listening to all this, I was
in awe but was also thinking to myself.

    Now, the achievements Benedict
accomplished… Originally, these were achievements that other
    characters should have accomplished.

    For instance, the feat of
defeating the dragon was supposed to belong to the current Knight
Commander of the kingdom. It was meant to showcase the might of the
    kingdom’s strongest forces.

The same goes for the S-rank
    dungeon.

    It wasn’t an achievement
that should’ve been attributed to one family. It was a problem barely
resolved through cooperation with the Church, meant to increase the
    Church’s influence within the kingdom.

    Other accomplishments were
    like that too.

    These were supposed to be
    achievements earned by others.

    Events that should have grown
    larger and caused more damage.

    But they were resolved by
    Benedict.

    Given the circumstances, it’s
no wonder Lucy’s head was still attached.

    Regardless of Benedict’s
numerous achievements, the sheer might possessed by Benedict and his
    family was overwhelming.

    Benedict is famously known as
    a doting father.

    Who would dare denounce Lucy
    Allen in front of him?

Who could afford to turn a
powerful border Count’s Family, capable of single-handedly
confronting a nation, into an enemy?

I knew the Allen Family was
strong, but I didn’t realise it was to this extent.

    The Count’s Family backing
me was much more formidable than I thought!

    “Thanks to Sir Benedict
    Allen, Lady Lucy is safe.”

    ‘I understand.’

    “Do you think I wouldn’t
get that information seller? Don’t compare my intellectual level to
    yours, got it?”

    “…I’m glad you
    understood.”

But if that many things have
changed, the main story must have been impacted in various ways…

    I haven’t explored beyond the
Allen Family and the Academy yet, but there must be numerous
    unexpected events outside.

    Considering that Bishop Johan
is in the Allen Family territory alone is already a deviation from
    the game.

If this were merely a game,
having a character with a [Mesugaki] skill would simply cause minor
problems—but in reality, things become this chaotic.

It saddens me to think there
will be more moments when my game knowledge will become increasingly
    useless.

    When that time comes, I’ll
have to call out to Grandpa for help.

    “Is there anything else
    you’d like to ask?”

    ‘Yes…’

    “Hey, information seller.
When are you bringing the item you promised? I can only tolerate your
incompetence for so long, you sloppy information seller.”

    A while ago, after Phoebe
realised the truth about herself, I asked Alsatine to bring me a
    certain item.

    “The Scroll of Silence, you
    mean?”

    The Scroll of Silence, crafted
by the sect that worships Harpo, the God of Calm, has the following
    effect:

    It prevents conversations held
within a room from leaking outside.

In other words, it creates a
space where one can discuss confidential matters.

    The discussions Phoebe and I
need to have are liable to cause significant issues if overheard. So,
we can’t just talk anywhere, right?

That’s why I plan to bring
Phoebe to my room and use the Scroll of Silence to create a secure
    environment.

    No matter how unsettling our
conversations might be, they won’t cause any trouble.

“I was just about to give it
    to you.”

    Alsatine promptly took the
scroll out from his chest pocket and placed it in front of me.

    He’s fast. Considering it’s
a popular item among high-ranking officials, I thought it might take
    longer.

    His ability to procure such
    items is truly impressive.

    ‘Thank you, Alsatine.’

    “Hmph. That was quick for
someone who’s supposedly incompetent and sloppy.”

    “Thank you, Lady Allen.”

Now, it’s time to go talk with
    Phoebe.

I wonder if I can handle this
    well.
