Mesugaki Tank Enters the Academy –

    Arthur, who was passionately
explaining, seemed to have higher grades than Joy in most exams.

    Joy repeatedly did airheaded
things, true to her nickname, leading her to make countless mistakes
    she shouldn’t have.

If things had gone as usual,
Joy would have probably ranked ninth or tenth.

    The subject that dramatically
boosted Joy’s grade was Magic Manipulation Studies.

Since it is a mandatory class
for anyone learning magic, both Joy and Arthur were enrolled and took
    the same exam.

    The professor for this class
valued practical skills, so naturally, the Magic Manipulation Studies
exam was conducted through practical application.

“The task this time was to
see how much magic one could handle stably at once.”

    After hearing Arthur’s story,
I understood why Joy had thanked me.

It was exactly what I had made
    Joy practice.

    “Airhead Lady showcased
    fantastic skills in that exam.”

    She must have been increasing
her proficiency in magic manipulation every night until her magic was
depleted, just as I had instructed.

    Given that she had trained
like a player, not just an NPC in the game, it’s no wonder she was
    incomparable to ordinary people.

    Joy impressively outperformed
everyone in Magic Manipulation Studies, receiving the top grade.

It was a perfect score that
the stringent professor of Magic Manipulation Studies had only
awarded to four people in his lifetime.

    Arthur also performed
exceptionally in that exam, surpassing most others, but his skills
didn’t satisfy the professor, who had previously witnessed a
glimpse of extraordinary talent, so Arthur ended up receiving a much
    lower score than Joy.

    “Do you understand my
frustration? Isn’t it strange that the rankings get overturned based
on one exam result?! I didn’t even perform poorly in the Magic
Manipulation Studies exam. In the overall ranking, I was second! But
the gap between first and second was so large that it flipped the
    rankings!”

I had to admit that Arthur had
    a right to be upset.

If you won in all the other
exams but got pushed down in ranking because of one test, you’d be
    mad too.

“But, Prince. A win is still
a win, isn’t it? Not accepting it is disgraceful.”

    “Joy! You really!”

    Joy seemed delighted at having
beaten Arthur, her smile brighter than ever.

    Given her usually fierce look,
it wasn’t easy for her to appear joyful. So, by her standards, she
    was probably laughing uproariously inside.

    You must have been harbouring
feelings from always being teased by Arthur for being airheaded.

    “You should have scored
higher. If you had, you wouldn’t have lost to me.”

    Whoever taught her that retort
did a good job of making it infuriating.

    Arthur was overwhelmed by the
flood of undeniable facts being thrown at him.

At this rate, Arthur might end
    up cursing.

    After teasing Arthur for a
while and feeling satisfied, Joy turned to me.

    “It’s thanks to Lady
Allen. I was able to receive the professor’s high praise thanks to
    your encouragement to practise.”

    “Damn. Lucy Allen. What
is it? Did you also meet the Prophet in Black Robes?!”

    Prophet in Black Robes?

    What is that?

I tilted my head at the
    unfamiliar term, and Arthur sighed.

    “Oh right. I forgot. You
    don’t have any friends.”

    ‘Arthur?’

    “Pitiful Prince? Are you
    picking a fight?”

    “I’m sorry. I misspoke.
Let me explain as an apology.”

It seems that the Prophet in
Black Robes is a recent rumour circulating among the academy
    students.

    Apparently, if you walk
through the village near the academy at dusk, you might encounter a
man dressed in black who will provide answers to any information you
    seek.

Of course, you must pay an
appropriate information fee, but the accuracy of his answers is said
    to be 100%!

    Sometimes, he even offers
    solutions to your problems.

    After hearing all this, I
realised what this rumour was about.

    It’s Nacrad.

What the hell is that bastard
    doing in the alleyways?

    His Evil God’s seal hasn’t
been fully broken yet, so if a subjugation order comes out, he’d be
    dead for sure.

Is he trying to spread evil
magic into other students now that that incompetent pig lady has
    failed?

Risking his own life over it?

He must really be pissed off
    at me.

    Hmm. I’ll take Karl and
Alsatine to mess with him later.

    Thanks to Grandpa’s detection
abilities, it won’t be hard to find him.

    “You truly had no idea
about this rumour?! What is this? So, Lucy Allen, does your insight
extend not only to dungeons but also to the academy exam paper?!”

    “It’s not such a strange
thing for Lady Allen, is it, Prince?”

    “Don’t tell Joy about the
exam contents next time! Make sure it’s fair!”

No, wait. I knew nothing about
    this.

I had no idea what kind of
exam would appear in the midterms.

    The game didn’t give any
    such hints.

If I had known, do you think I
would have panicked when my log function flew off the rails during
    the test?

It was just the most basic
thing to do when raising a mage character. It was purely coincidental
    that it worked out.

    So, don’t expect anything
    weird from me!

    ‘I really don’t know anything!
    I’m an idiot! Truly!’

    “Hah. Are you begging,
Pitiful Prince? But I seriously don’t know anything. No matter what
the Pitiful Prince says, I really don’t know.”

    “Stop lying! Lucy Allen! Are
you only going to help those close to you?!”

    I’m telling you, I really
    don’t know anything!

    Managing to shake off Arthur,
who was pestering me for inside information, I attended several
    classes at the academy.

    Since it hadn’t been long
since midterms ended, no one was really focused on the lessons, and
the professors, understanding this, kept the classes short.

Thanks to that, I had more
free time than usual and headed straight to the back alleyways of the
academy. There was something I left behind at the mansion.

    “Hello… Ah. What? Is it
    you?”

As soon as I stepped into the
mansion, Adri, who had a bright smile, saw my face and immediately
    frowned.

No matter how much she didn’t
like me, this was too much.

Even though I was used to such
discrimination, it still stung a bit!

I mentioned it, but Adri just
looked at me with a blunt face as if to say, “This girl is at it
    again.”

    Really, this is too much.

Do they think you can treat me
    like this?

    Most people would tremble just
at the sight of my face!

    Am I really that scary?

    “What do you want?”

    ‘I came to keep you
    company.’

    “Worried that a lonely old
lady might die of solitude, so I thought I’d keep you company?”

    “Oh, really? Then if I
say I’m not lonely and ask you to leave, will you leave?”

    ‘No!’

“Why should I listen to a
    lonely old lady? No way.”

    “Hah. Fine, do whatever
    you want.”

    Looking at Adri, who was
waving her hand as if even dealing with me was annoying, I was
tempted to tease her more, but I decided to stop.

There were things I needed to
do. Passing by the grumbling Adri, I went upstairs and found the
sword that I had practically thrown aside the last time I left the
    mansion.

    “Did you come here to
    find that?”

    ‘Yes.’

    “Yeah, that’s right.”

I plan to give this as a gift
to Karl, who has been struggling lately with his increasing duties as
    a professor.

The sword he’s using now is
decent, but it’s not as good as this one.

And above all, Karl is someone
who views himself as my loyal dog.

He would probably wag his tail
so hard knowing that I gave him a gift.

    “Be careful. That sword
carries an Undead Curse. You may be fine, but an ordinary person who
grabs it would probably die from the curse.”

As I was pondering how to calm
Karl down from his likely excessive excitement, Adri bluntly gave me
    some advice.

Heh. Are you worried about me
    right now?

    You say things like, “You’re
annoying” and “Hurry up and leave,” but I guess that’s
not what you really mean in your heart?

Well, you really do seem like
an old lady who’s lived alone for too long and is awkward with
    people.

It would be nice if you were
just honest and said you’re worried.

    When I openly laughed while
looking at Adri, she hastily turned her gaze away.

    “I was just worried that
    it might cause a disaster!”

    ‘Ah. Okay. Is that so?

    “I didn’t say anything!
What’s this? Are you flustered, old hag? Haha, it suits you, being an
unsociable loner old hag. Should I hold your hand? Or maybe give you
a hug? You don’t have to be embarrassed.”

    “Just get lost!”

    Seeing objects in the mansion
starting to float one by one, I hurriedly fled outside of the
    mansion.

    Even though I probably
wouldn’t lose against Adri, if the two of us did fight, this mansion
    would come crashing down.

After my hasty escape from the
mansion, I started heading towards the church with the sword in hand.

I am aware of the curse
    attached to this sword.

    The sword embodies the
Paladin’s Resentment—a curse born from a paladin who became an
undead spirit to kill other undead spirits.

    Anyone holding this sword
would be consumed by hostility and hatred toward undead spirits.

In the game, I recall there
being a penalty where you lose control of the character when
    encountering undead spirits.

    I can’t give Karl something
that will become a major problem in the future, can I?

    If he disappears, who will
    protect me?

So, I need to exorcise this
    curse in advance.

Luckily, I’m a VIP at the
church. Having exorcised Agra’s Curse twice, even if they might think
otherwise on the inside, they at least pretend to treat me well on
    the outside.

    So, they’ll handle the
exorcism of the curse on this sword without any issues, right?

As I walked lightly toward the
church, I encountered a familiar face.

    ‘Saint.’

    “Sloppy Saint.”

It’s the first time I’ve seen
her since we last met at the infirmary.

    Strange.

We used to run into each other
    often before.

    Was it just my imagination?

    Maybe I simply don’t remember
    the few times we met?

    “Ah, Lady Allen. Do you
have some business at the church?”

    ‘Yes, I need to…’

    “Yes, I need to exorcise
the curse on this sword. Even a sloppy church like this can manage
    that much, right?”

    “…May I take a look at
    that sword for a moment?”

Is she offering to help with
this task because she’s the best person for it?

    If Phoebe performs the
exorcism, I can trust her with it.

    I handed over the sword
without hesitation, and Phoebe silently examined it.

Having been taken in by the
church and raised as a Saint from a young age, Phoebe possesses an
unusually detailed knowledge of anything related to the Church of
    Armadi.

    This sword is no exception.

The style of this sword is
undoubtedly from the Church of Armadi. Such an item is a valuable
artefact granted only to top-ranking officers.

    ‘Where on earth did she
acquire an antique like this, one that should be called a relic from
the past rather than a modern piece?

And how did something with an
Undead Curse manage to penetrate the Blessing on it?’

    Phoebe’s curiosity got the
better of her, and she asked Lucy about it. Lucy casually explained,
as if it were no big deal.

    “I received it as a
reward after clearing a dungeon under the guidance of the sloppy
    Armadi.”

    The guidance of Armadi?

    After hearing this, Phoebe
took her gaze off the sword and looked up at Lucy quietly.

    ‘Again?

    Only you?’
