Mesugaki Tank Enters the Academy –
    101

    “Ugh.”

    After experiencing
teleportation for the first time, I decided that riding a carriage
    would have been far preferable.

It may take longer and be
uncomfortable, causing nausea, but it’s bearable.

Now that my body has grown
relatively stronger, it’s not as torturous as the first time it
    happened.

    Teleportation is a different
    league altogether.

It felt as though all the
discomfort of a month-long carriage journey had been compressed into
one moment. It was an effective way to show others what I had eaten
    today.

    It’s more of a torture
    method than a travel method.

Struggling to lift my head as
I recalled memories from when I first drank, I resolved never to use
    teleportation again.

If I have to endure something
like this again, I’d rather take the longer journey by carriage.

    If that’s too much trouble,
    I’d rather walk.

I never want to undergo this
    terrible experience again.

    Grandpa, read the room.

    I’m trying hard to deny
reality here, and you go and say something like that!

    “Are you alright, Miss?”

    ‘Yes, and you?’

    “Yes, I’m fine. What about
    you, Sloppy?”

    “This much is nothing.”

Watching Karl laugh it off as
if it was no big deal made me realise once again how incredibly
    strong he is.

    I’m envious. I wonder if
continuous training will eventually make me immune to this pain.

    “Knights really are
    amazing.”

    “Maybe it’s because his
head is full of muscles that he’s fine. Impressive.”

    “Thank you for the
    compliment.”

    Barely regaining my senses, I
followed Alsatine’s lead and headed toward the Newman Family’s
    building.

    “Welcome, Lady Allen.”

    The Newman Family’s butler
greeted me as if he had been waiting.

Wasn’t he the one who stood in
    for Gus Newman before?

    “Please come in. The
    Master is expecting you.”

    ‘Yes, understood.’

    “Sure thing, gloomy
    butler.”

I just want to get inside and
    sit down quickly.

    Even during the hardest
training sessions, I’ve never felt this exhausted.

    Once I return to the
dormitory, I need to immediately collapse on the bed and shut my
    eyes.

Tonight, I might finally get a
    good night’s sleep.

    “Before that, may I ask
you to hand over your weapon and shield?”

    ‘No way.’

    “Gloomy butler, what are
you planning to do by taking my weapons? Just the thought of it makes
    me uncomfortable, so no.”

    Unless it’s in a place where I
    feel absolutely secure.

    There’s no way I’m letting
go of my mace and shield in a place where I’m still uncertain about
    everything.

    Absolutely not.

    ‘Please don’t worry. It’s
    just a formality.’

    “I said no, didn’t I?♡
I don’t know if you have some weird fetish for my weapons, but no
    thanks.♡ They’d probably start to smell funny.♡”

    The butler’s eyebrows slightly
    furrowed at my words.

    He’s still human after all.

    Even he can’t maintain a
    perfect expression all the time.

Why does he insist on taking
    my weapons?

    Don’t even think about taking
Grandpa away from me. You smelly old butler.

Sorry, but I’m not into BL
(Boy’s Love) or NTR (Netori, a genre of manga/anime involving
    adultery).

    If something unexpected
happens and I die because I don’t have Grandpa with me, will you take
    responsibility? Huh?

    “My lady.”

    “I said it’s enough.”

Just when the butler was about
to say something else, Gus Newman appeared from behind.

    “Lady Allen, I’ll guide
    you personally.”

    ‘Yes, please take care of
    me.’

    “Looking forward to it,
    Trash Master.”

    Passing the bowing butler, I
    headed into the family mansion.

    While guiding me, Gus Newman
explained how they obtained the antidote.

    He revealed that following the
steps I mentioned that day led them to a miraculous elixir of
    healing.

    At first, he was sceptical,
but after having it appraised, they confirmed it was genuine.

    “It was truly
astonishing. Lady Allen, you must be blessed by the gods.”

    Gus’s voice carried an
unusual excitement, unlike his usual demeanour. Could it be that he’s
that happy because his son can be treated?

    This guy’s also quite the
doting father. He could have a good match with Benedict in a who’s
    the biggest fool competition.

    No, that’s not it.

    Benedict requires words even
more severe and intense words than “doting” to describe his
    feelings about his daughter.

    “Strictly speaking, there
was no need to call you, my lady, but just in case. The contents of
the vow were vague, so I was worried it might inconvenience you, Lady
    Allen.”

Gus Newman’s claim that he was
worried about me is obviously a lie.

    This man’s personality doesn’t
allow him to worry about anyone other than his own blood.

There must be some gain for
    him.

    Just considering it
immediately, he has the advantage of passing Agra’s Curse onto me.

    I’ll play along since it
benefits me too, but I’m curious.

    What exactly is Gus aiming
    for?

    “This is the room. Please,
    go in.”

    The door opened, revealing a
    child lying on the bed.

    Long black hair that stretched
below his shoulders, looking like it hadn’t been cut in a long time.

    Pale skin that naturally
lightened from the lack of sunlight.

A rather small frame, even for
    a boy.

    Chester Newman.

I usually have no characters I
avoid in Soul Academy, but Chester is an exception.

    I dislike Chester.

    The reason? Because this guy
is a damn trap*. (*Boy who looks like a girl.)

    So, right after Soul Academy
was released, Chester was a character unknown to many.

    If Agra’s Curse was not
exorcised before the second year started, he would just die without
    anyone noticing.

I was the first to discover
that Chester Newman could become an NPC of the Academy.

    Obsessed with the game Soul
Academy, I was practically sacrificing my lifespan playing it and
happened to learn the conditions for him to enter the Academy.

    Excited by the discovery of
this hidden element that no one else knew about, I immediately
    decided to target Chester Newman.

And in the end, I found the
    hidden twist.

    It turned out that this
bastard wasn’t a girl disguised as a boy, but just a damn trap.

You have no idea how shocked I
    was.

    He had decent illustrations, a
good personality, and decent character specs, so while he wasn’t at
Joy’s level, I thought he was worth becoming a favourite character.
But it felt like a huge betrayal.

No wonder I never touched him
again after clearing his achievement, even though he had good
    performance.

    Even in reality, he’s quite
    pretty.

It’s not his fault he looks
like a girl, but once your heart is broken like that, it’s really
    disgusting.

    “Father. This person
    is…”

“This is Lady Lucy of the
Allen Family. She will be the one to cure your illness.”

    “Is that so?”

    Answering with a resigned
smile, Chester looked at me and bowed his head.

He doesn’t think he can get
    better at all, does he?

Seeing that, I do feel a bit
sorry for him. On the way, I handed the potion I received from Gus
    Newman to Chester.

    “What’s this?”

    ‘Drink it.’

    “Drink it. Even if you’re
a weakling, you can do at least this much, right?”

“Is this a cure? Haha. If it
    were that simple to cure…”

    ‘Could you drink it first
    and then give your opinion?’

    “Stop talking and just drink
it. Why does a weakling who looks like he could be snapped in half
with one hand have so much to say?”

    Even when offering to cure
    him, he talks so much.

If he mouths off a little
more, maybe I should provoke him into drinking it.

    Although I was thinking that,
thankfully, I didn’t have to use my [Mesugaki] Skill.

    He opened the potion’s cap
    and drank it down.

    Even though the potion wasn’t
bulky, he still had to take several breaks before managing to finish
    it all.

    “See, it’s not like much
    has… huh?”

    As soon as Chester Newman
widened his eyes, several message windows popped up before me.

    The first one wasn’t from
    Armadi.

    [Agra is glaring at you.]

    As if it hasn’t always
    glared at me.

    You’re always staring at me
    anyway.

    Every time I enter the
dungeon, you’re thinking about how to mess with me.

If our Armadi is sloppy and
incompetent, then you’re petty. Really petty. Petty Evil God.

    Following that, a message from
    Armadi appeared.

How can you, who is supposed
to be the Chief God, respond even slower than the Evil God?

    I truly don’t understand.

    You’re always staring at me,
thinking about how to make my life difficult, like a pervert.

You may be less competent than
the Evil God, but at least show some diligence.

I have a lot more to say, but
I’d better stop before you do something stupid out of spite.

    I’m not just picking on
    you…

If you get peeved just because
I grumbled a bit, you’ll become as petty as that Evil God.

    Carefully, I checked the
    message from Armadi.

    [Armadi watches you with
    satisfaction.]

    See? I did well, right?

    I gave your adversary what’s
    coming to him!

    So, give me something good!
    Something really good!

    [The functionality of Ruel’s
    Mace is unlocked.]

[Divine power is imbued in the
mace. This feature will become more pronounced as the user’s divine
    power increases.]

    Additional divine damage?!

    Amazing! This is truly
    amazing!

    Wait, isn’t this originally a
special function that only activates when you hit level 60, but
you’re unlocking it for me now?!

Wow. I was worried about my
lack of damage, but this solves my problem!

    By imbuing Ruel’s Mace with
divine power, not only will my basic damage increase, but I’ll also
gain an advantage over those related to the Evil God.

    Nacrad. Just wait.

I will train and come break
    your head.

Apostle of the Evil God? With
a mace imbued with divine power, you won’t stand a chance!

    Even this alone was satisfying
enough, but there were still messages left.

Oh my goodness. Why is Armadi
    being so generous?

Is there anything left for him
    after this?

    The Chief God’s gone crazy!

    Bartender! Close up shop!

    [The ‘Log’ function is now
    available.]

    Log?

As in the Log you talk about
in games? But that doesn’t make sense if it means unlocking a
    function.

    Then, what’s left?

    No way.

Just like I’d open the Quest
window, I activated the Log function.

    A blue window appeared before
    me.

    It displayed my recent
conversations with Chester, along with the messages from Armadi and
    Agra.

    Ah, this Log.

    I thought Armadi was just
showering me with rewards, but he’s carefully adjusting them.

Well, it’s true that being too
    generous isn’t always good.

    He has great insight.

    I’m not saying this because
I’m afraid of retaliation; I’m genuinely amazed by Armadi’s wisdom.

I should be happy just for
getting additional divine damage, but why do I feel so happy and
    disappointed at the same time?

    I shouldn’t say… No, never
    mind.

    It’s nothing.

As I closed the Log window and
got up from the bed, I saw Chester looking at his own body in wonder.

    “Chester, how are you
    feeling? Are you okay?”

    “…It’s fascinating. My
    body feels unusually light.”

    “Oh! My God!”

    Watching Gus embrace his son
tightly, I realised that even a noble from the cold underworld is a
    father at heart.

In the past, I would have felt
envious, but now I have someone who treats me like that too.

For now, should I leave the
room to let the two have their touching moment.
