Mesugaki Tank Enters the Academy –
    70

    Bisi, unlike some others, had
friends and was aware of how the situation was unfolding.

So when Lucy said she needed
people, Bisi quickly figured out what she was getting at.

    ‘She’s trying to rope me
    into this suicidal competition.’

Bisi wanted to jump up and
    leave.

    There was absolutely nothing
good about being part of Lucy Allen’s team.

Having to enter a dungeon with
this Rowdy Lady, who seemed incapable of speaking anything but sharp
    words.

Having to step into a battle
    that was impossible to win.

And most of all, the biggest
problem was standing against the Third Prince, who had secured both
    legitimacy and practical support.

In less than a day, public
opinion at the Soul Academy had already tipped decisively to one
    side.

    The Third Prince, who had
proposed a fair challenge to the one who insulted him, and the Rowdy
    Lady who accepted it graciously.

    It was crystal clear which
    side you should support.

    In this situation, standing
    against the Third Prince?

It was the same as asking to
be pelted with stones by the students currently at the Academy.

And that wouldn’t be the end
    of it.

    Supporting Lucy wouldn’t
only affect your reputation within the Academy.

    Word would spread across noble
    social circles.

Now she was forced to side
with the Rowdy Lady against the Third Prince.

    Though it wasn’t quite
political suicide, as the Third Prince was not close to the line of
succession, it was still sheer madness.

    Despite this, Bisi couldn’t
leave because Lucy Allen held a weakness over her.

    “If NPC #1 doesn’t help
me, I’m afraid my lips are going to get very loose.”

    The Necromancer, Bisi’s most
forbidden secret, one that must never be revealed.

    “Maybe I’ll go to that
rundown Church and spill everything to that pathetic Armadi.”

    Lucy spoke slyly, playing with
the cross-shaped necklace hanging around her neck.

The necklace of the Church of
    Armadi.

An item given only to those
who had done significant work for the Church.

    Though it was blasphemous for
someone who called Armadi “pathetic” to possess such a
necklace, it was clear that Lucy Allen had some connections with the
    Church.

    Especially since she could
    even use divine magic.

If someone like her were to
report Bisi to the Church as a Necromancer…

Bisi had heard about the fate
of Necromancers exposed to the Church from her mentor.

    Stories of horrific fates that
    made one wish for death.

There was no way she could let
    that happen.

    Better to endure hardship than
to be captured by the Church and tortured to death.

“…So all I need to do is
    join your party?”

“You catch on quickly for an
    NPC. Yes, that’s right.”

    Lucy Allen laughed, a mocking
grin on her face, while Bisi clenched her fists under the table.

‘If only I had power, if
only I had influence, I would knock some sense into that Rowdy Lady.

I would make her cry and shout
    that she’s really sloppy!’

    While Bisi fumed internally,
Lucy Allen pulled out an orb from her pocket.

    At first glance, it looked
like a simple black orb, but Bisi immediately recognized what it was.

    “It’s the reward I got
from defeating a Necromancer last time. I thought you might know what
    it is.”

    Though she wasn’t yet highly
skilled, a Necromancer was still a Necromancer.

There was no way Bisi couldn’t
detect the pure malice contained within the orb. She couldn’t tear
    her eyes away from it.

    If she could absorb that
malice into her body, she could undoubtedly reach a higher level.

It would bring her one step
closer to the state she yearned for.

    “It’s a rare item. Even
in the underworld, it would cost a fortune to obtain.”

    Lucy was right.

    Necromancy was considered
    forbidden magic by the Church.

    Naturally, related items
couldn’t be traded openly, and even in the hidden markets, they were
    hard to come by.

    Such an item was absolutely
beyond the reach of a minor noble like Bisi.

    “I’m not someone stingy
who works people for free. If you help me defeat the Pitiful Prince,
I’ll give you this. How about it?”

Bisi stood up from her chair
    and walked toward Lucy.

    She bowed politely to Lucy.

    “I will do my best!”

    “I don’t need it. I don’t
have any expectations of someone sloppy like you. Just stay in the
    background and breathe.”

After sending off the NPC, who
seemed ready to lick my boots if I asked, Grandpa quietly asked me.

    There was a sinister undertone
in his voice, something not usually present. It couldn’t be helped.
Most Necromancers were often servants of the Evil God.

    How could Grandpa who had
fought against the Evil God all his life ever have good feelings
    toward a Necromancer?

    ‘It’s okay.’

    There was a significant
difference between the Necromancers that Grandpa thought of and NPC
    #1 (Bisi).

    How could a madman who
worshipped the Evil God and someone who took this path simply to see
her family one more time be the same?

    ‘Yes, I understand.’

    Though I thought it was
excessive worry, I nodded my head to reassure him rather than argue
    unnecessarily.

    ‘We need to prepare.’

    ‘I already know.’

    I’ve memorised how the
dungeon constructed by the Soul Academy in the first semester is
    composed.

    Which Monsters appear on each
    level.

    What bosses appear every ten
    levels.

How to deal with each one.

    The layout of each field.

    Even the hidden items and
secret routes the professors place while constructing the dungeon.

    I know it all.

There is no dungeon I don’t
know in the game known as Soul Academy. There couldn’t be any
information I don’t know about the main stage of this game, the
    Academy Dungeon.

When I answered that I knew,
    Grandpa asked nothing further.

    Previously, I’d done all sorts
of outlandish things, using sloppy lies about ‘from’ Armadi as an
    excuse.

    The moment I start behaving
oddly, he must’ve thought it was due to that perverted God’s
    influence.

I went back to the dormitory
to gather some items, and I pulled out a small pouch in my room.

The pouch of gold coins that
Benedict had given me when I entered the Academy!

Inside was a whopping 20 gold.

    It’s an amount noble
students might use for living expenses for a year, but Benedict had
given it to me as pocket money, separate from my living expenses.

He said it’s better to have
    more money than not enough.

Of course, the more money, the
better, but should he really be giving such a large sum to a student?

    This must be why Lucy
developed such wasteful habits. Benedict, you fool.

He’s so good at fighting and
working, yet why is he so disastrously bad at raising children?

I took out two gold coins from
the pouch and headed back outside.

In a typical city, evening is
the time when the streets prepare for sleep.

    Since there are no
streetlights or electricity in this world, night is purely a time for
    rest.

    However, the streets of Soul
    Academy are different.

The most active time in this
city centred around the Academy is naturally the evening.

    That’s because the Academy
students, who contribute the most to the city’s economy, move freely
    at this time.

    Tonight, the streets of Soul
Academy were lively as usual, but I headed past them towards the back
alley. While it was possible to find the items I was looking for on
this street, their quality would be too low.

    You can’t expect to find
good items in shops available at the beginning of a game.

    Later, when some conditions
are unlocked, better items become available, but for now, it’s not
    feasible.

So, the place I chose was
    somewhere else.

When I opened the door to the
back alley pub, all eyes turned to me, just like before.

    However, the nature of those
    gazes was different this time.

    There was no hostility or
    wariness.

    All that was left was
    cautiousness.

    I guess it’s because I’m now a
    valued customer, huh?

    “Lady Allen. What brings
    you here today?”

    The man who had previously
picked a fight with me and got beaten up by Alsatine asked
    courteously.

    ‘Hello there…’

    “Hello, Grandpa. I’ve come
    to meet the Information Seller.”

    The man’s eyebrows twitched at
the words that insulted both him and his superior.

However, he did not lose his
    temper as he did before.

When I first met him, he
    seemed incredibly hot-tempered.

Was it simply because I was an
    outsider then?

    “He’s upstairs. I’ll go
    fetch him…”

    ‘No…’

    “No need. I’ll head up
myself for that lazy Information Seller who can’t be bothered to come
    down quickly.”

    I know where Alsatine’s room
is. Because I had dropped by last time.

Passing by the man who stepped
aside for me, I knocked on Alsatine’s door before opening it.

    “Who is it…”

    Alsatine looked up with a
frown, but upon seeing my face, he urgently changed his expression.

    ‘It’s Lucy Allen.’

    “It’s me. Got a problem
    with that, Information Seller?”

    “No, no issue at all.
    What brings you here?”

    ‘I’m here to buy some
    things.’

    “The only reason I’d
come to a shabby, dirty place like this is to buy something, right?”

    “I see. Please, have a
    seat.”

    Following Alsatine’s guidance,
I closed the door and took a seat.

    While I moved, he discreetly
hid some documents laid out in front of him.

    It seemed like important
information, but there was no need to hide it from me.

    Whatever it was, it couldn’t
be more valuable than what’s in my head.

    ‘So…’

    “Did you investigate what
    I asked about?”

    “The Burrow Family’s
necklace? Yes. We’ve identified its current location and should
    secure it within two weeks.”

    Already? That was fast.

I thought it would take at
    least a month.

    Although this was good news,
it wasn’t the topic I was asking about.

    “Not that information,
Sloppy the one about your pathetic master.”

    “Yes, of course, I looked
into it. Based on my findings, I believe there’s enough evidence to
support your claim. We have spotted my master’s whereabouts in that
    location.”

    Good. With this, Alsatine
wouldn’t dare to upset me until I reveal what I know about his
master. If I were to make any request, he would surely do his best to
    fulfil it.

    “I’m curious how you
obtained such information, but I assume you won’t tell me?”

    ‘Of course not.’

    “Why ask the obvious,
Information Seller? Trying to make me waste my breath?”

    “Haha, that wasn’t my
intention. Now, let’s get back to the main topic. What brings you
    here to buy?”

I handed Alsatine a list of
items I had prepared in advance from my pocket. He checked it and
    raised one eyebrow slightly.

    “Are you planning to
    conquer a dungeon?”

    ‘That’s right…’

    “Yes. Information Seller,
can you get all of this, top quality, within a week?”

    “Of course, I can.
    However…”

    Before Alsatine could add
anything, I placed two gold coins next to the list. Alsatine then
    flashed a very bright smile.

    “If you come back in
three days, I will have everything ready.”
