Mesugaki Tank Enters the Academy –
67
Bisi listened to Adri’s
recount of what had happened since Lucy and Karl entered the mansion
last night.
“The knight was extremely
scared, and the girl seemed completely at ease.
They moved naturally towards
the basement as if they had memorised the path within the mansion.
They unlocked the door with a
key, then they headed downwards.
And then, they discovered and
entered the dungeon.
Both of them were incredibly
amazing!”
Adri’s description of what
happened inside the dungeon was filled with sound effects like
“Wow!”, “Swoosh!”, and “Bang!”, making
it hard for me to follow.
But what she understood was
this; Zombies crawled out of the grave, but the two bypassed them and
pushed forward.
They rushed toward a grave
with a broken cross and defeated a wraith.
“A wraith? How did they
manage to defeat it?”
She knew a lot about wraiths,
even if she didn’t know much about monsters in general.
Wraiths, were boss-level
monsters in dungeons, and are usually immune to physical attacks.
However, both of them seemed
to be knights who primarily relied on physical attacks.
Since Karl is an Academy
professor, did he have some special method?
“Yup! The girl just whacked
it with her mace, and it went “Ack!” and died!”
Lucy Allen managed to kill it
by whacking it with her mace?
Bisi then thought; ‘Come to
think of it, I did see her using divine magic during the entrance
ceremony. Did she defeat the wraith using that?
If she could take down a
boss-level necromancer, Lucy’s divine power must be pretty strong.
Could someone who used to
blaspheme against the gods possess that kind of divine power? Is she
really blessed by the gods?’
“And then, when they came
out of the dungeon, she gave me this ribbon as a gift!”
Adri shouted excitedly,
pointing to the ribbon on her head. There really was a new ribbon
there.
“Isn’t it pretty?!”
“It is pretty, but how
did you even receive that?”
Adri is a ghost, so naturally,
she shouldn’t be able to interact with the physical world, let alone
change her appearance after death.
Naturally, she shouldn’t be
able to receive nor wear a ribbon.
“I don’t know! She just
gave it to me, and I received it!”
“…Right. Why do I even
expect an answer from you?”
She half-listened to Adri’s
whining and thought; ‘It must be that brat who did something. Lucy
Allen. Just who is she?’
A year ago, when she first
appeared in society, she was the definition of a bratty girl.
But how could she have changed
so much in just the past year?
What on earth happened to her?
She never even held a pen
before, yet she managed to place first in Soul Academy’s entrance
exam.
During the commotion at the
entrance ceremony, she was on the front lines.
Is it even possible to change
this much in just a year?
Is this simply because she has
the Allen bloodline?
Was that troublemaker just a
lazy genius with a terrible personality?
Or is there something more to
it?
“Hmm. But that girl was
remarkable! She seemed to know my true identity right away, and she
appeared to know everything about that dungeon, even about this
mansion. How do you think she knew?”
“I don’t know.”
She’s clearly not just an
ordinary troublemaker.
She answered Adri’s query
casually as she massaged the back of her neck.
Having her secret as a
necromancer exposed, she couldn’t afford to go against her.
The moment it’s revealed that
she meddled with forbidden arts, the Church will come after her.
A minor noble like her would
just disappear without a trace.
‘I should be grateful she’s
keeping her mouth shut and even got rid of the dungeon that was in
this mansion.
I still don’t like the Rowdy
Lady herself, but credit where credit is due.
Maybe I should refrain from
gossiping for a little while.’
The next morning, Bisi woke up
and headed to the training grounds.
The person who taught her
necromancy had insisted she train early, so Bisi tried to move her
body as early in the morning as possible.
Though yesterday, she’d
overslept and had been too rushed so she went straight to her
classes.
Arriving at the training
grounds with her dishevelled hair tied back, Bisi found that others
had arrived before her.
Among them, Lucy and Frey
stood out, sprinting around the perimeter of the grounds at a speed
comparable to that of horses, yet their expressions were completely
composed.
“Sloppy swordsman. Aren’t
you getting tired? You’re gasping for breath.”
“Not at all. Are you sure
it’s not you who’s struggling?”
“Pfft. How amusing! A
sloppy swordsman who lost to me is trying to provoke? How
ridiculous.”
“Ugh.”
How can they carry on a
conversation while running at that speed?
Bisi wasn’t the only one
staring at them in disbelief.
Most of the people at the
training grounds were doing the same.
Seeing two small children
running at a seemingly uncatchable speed was truly astonishing.
Add to that, one of them was
the infamous Lucy Allen, so anyone who made eye contact quickly
looked away. Bisi stared at the scene for a while before starting her
own training at a distance from them.
Bisi and Lucy’s ill-fated
relationship continued from that point onward.
It was during magic class.
Having not yet accustomed to
Soul Academy, Bisi wandered around and barely made it to the
classroom. She sighed in relief when she saw a friend waving at her.
“Too bad. If you were a
little later, you’d have been late and gotten in trouble.”
“Shut up.”
Bisi retorted to her friend
who was teasing her for her poor somewhat usual late arrivals and
then looked around the classroom.
There was a strangely empty
space within the room.
It was around Lucy Allen.
Nobles who had been harshly
treated by Lucy Allen in social circles naturally avoided her. The
few commoners who were there also kept their distance, wary of her
presence. Thus, Lucy Allen ended up alone.
Normally, someone in that
situation might feel discouraged or depressed, but Lucy Allen calmly
stared out the window as if she was used to it.
“Bisi, shouldn’t we call
her the Lonely Lady instead of Rowdy Lady now?”
“Well…”
Bisi was about to answer her
friend’s sneering remark but quickly shut her mouth.
She recalled Lucy Allen’s
warning from the previous day.
‘Karl must have told that
troublemaker everything.
I thought he was kind because
he’s handsome, but he ends up reporting everything like a petty
person.
What exactly is Lucy Allen to
him anyway?’
“What? Nothing, just
thinking it must be lonely.”
Bisi’s friend laughed lightly
at her awkward response.
“What loneliness? She
brought it upon herself. Do you think someone who calls the Third
Prince ‘Pitiful Prince’ would care about such things?”
Bisi’s friend was right.
It was Lucy herself who
shattered the public’s hopes that she might change after the entrance
exams and ceremony.
Calling the Third Prince
‘Pitiful Prince’ was audacious.
When Bisi heard that story,
she thought Lucy was truly insane.
Of course, she couldn’t say
such things out loud now.
Seeing Bisi smile awkwardly,
her friend narrowed her eyes.
“What’s this? Are you
trying to act all nice today, Bisi?”
“What do you mean, act nice?
I’m always nice.”
“Hah, so fake.”
Their conversation was
interrupted when the Magic professor entered the classroom.
“The flow of magic is…”
As the lecture continued, the
professor suddenly frowned and raised his voice.
“Lady Allen.”
All eyes turned toward Lucy
Allen.
She was lying on her desk,
sleeping.
What on earth is she doing?!
Lucy hurriedly lifted her
head, and the professor’s voice took on a sharper edge.
“Could you please tell us
what I just explained?”
Lucy remained silent. She
couldn’t answer.
She had been sleeping until a
moment ago.
“She’s going to be so
embarrassed.”
Bisi’s friend chuckled with
glee, but what she was expecting did not happen.
“Sloppy Professor. Your
recent explanation…”
Lucy Allen answered the
professor’s question without a moment’s hesitation.
Her answer was so perfect that
even the Magic professor, who was about to make a comment, was left
speechless.
“Very… very well.
Please sit down.”
‘How did she answer when she
was sleeping?
Did she just glance at the
board and guess?!
Hah, is that the difference
between ordinary and genius?’
Bisi, feeling a twinge of
jealousy, clicked her tongue without realising it.
After the class, Bisi heard
Lucy’s name again around lunchtime.
Lady Baines, whom she had seen
in social circles, stormed into the cafeteria, fuming.
Despite the murmuring around
her, Lady Baines couldn’t hide her indignation.
Why is she so upset?
“Must be because she lost
to the Rowdy Lady.”
The answer to her question
came from Bisi’s friend, who had just come from duelling class.
“To Lady Allen?”
“Yes. The Rowdy Lady may
not know much else, but she’s exceptional at fighting. Lady Baines
couldn’t even land a hit.”
“Amazing.”
“It’s not even
surprising. She even beat Lady Kent last time.”
‘Lady Kent, who had won
numerous tournaments held by the kingdom.
A monstrous talent expected to
become the next Sword Saint.
She beat someone like that in
a duel?’
“Really?”
“Yes.”
She not only excels
academically, having placed first in the Soul Academy Entrance Exam,
but she also possesses the martial prowess to defeat Lady Kent?
On top of that, she has enough
divine power to inflict damage on a wraith?
“It’s not fair.”
Is it even possible for one
person to be so talented?
“She must truly be loved by
the gods.”
“Hey. What kind of
blasphemous thing are you saying?”
As soon as Bisi muttered this,
her friend snapped at her.
“It’s the Saint, who is like
an angel, that receives God’s love. There’s no way a rowdy person
with such a personality could be loved by God.”
That made sense.
Considering the Saint’s pure
and virtuous personality, God wouldn’t favour someone like the Rowdy
Lady.
“If anything, she might be
loved by the devil.”
Listening to her friend, Bisi
unintentionally let out a laugh.
‘But then, she saw Lucy
entering the cafeteria and tightened her lips.
Oh. Hmm.
She didn’t hear what we just
said, did she?’
Days feel long.
This has become my most
frequent thought recently.
Back when this world was just
a game, a day could pass in a mere 10 seconds if I wanted.
Listening to lectures amounted
to breezing through some text, and all I had to do was choose what to
do in the evening and night.
But now that this is reality,
it feels significantly different.
Who knew that spending a full
24 hours could feel so long?
It wouldn’t have been so
boring if I could spend the entire day training like I did at my
family home.
Here, I have to sit through
all these boring and tedious classes, and it’s so exhausting.
From the beginning, the trial
period at Soul Academy was supposed to be one of those stages where
you just do a few things and move on—it’s practically an unwritten
rule!
Why can’t I skip this period?!
It would have been somewhat
better if I could at least do some quests.
But lately, whenever I try to
talk to anyone, they just run away, so I can’t even do that.
Ah, I hope this trial period
ends soon.
Once a week passes and the
regular semester officially begins, we’ll be able to enter Soul
Academy’s dungeon, right?
