Mesugaki Tank Enters the Academy –

“How can you attack me?!”
“Maybe it’s because you’re
just a sloppy amateur?♡”
As a character in a game, you
wouldn’t understand.
Even though I’m a Paladin,
I’m still quite weak.
Normally, it would be
impossible to deal proper damage to a necromancer with a significant
level gap.
But you see, veterans excel at
exploiting the gaps in between.
The boss of this haunted place
is, in principle, immune to all physical attacks.
However, the evasion mechanism
is nullification, not immunity.
The difference between these
two is significant.
It means the damage is
nullified after being received, not that it’s never received in the
first place.
Here’s where the skill
[Underdog], which I acquired after defeating a pitiable senior in the
third grade, comes into play.
Against opponents with a level
difference of over 20, this skill delivers true damage, allowing me
to harm an otherwise untouchable necromancer.
Physical attacks may be
nullified, but fixed damage remains unchanged!
Wham!
My mace struck the necromancer
once again.
Thanks to his absurd skill of
nullifying physical attacks, his base stats are relatively lower
compared to other bosses of similar levels.
With the numerous mastery
skills I’ve honed to their limits, I can easily overpower him now.
Of course, the necromancer
didn’t just stand still.
As a true boss of one dungeon,
he fought back with all his might.
However, I wasn’t the only
one participating in this battle.
Karl, as a knight of the Allen
Family with countless battles under his belt, created an optimal
environment for my attacks by blocking all of the necromancer’s
desperate efforts.
He disrupted the necromancer’s
spells, dealt with the corpses crawling out of the graves, and even
stopped the necromancer’s frenzied fits of rage.
In many ways, he was more
effective than a typical tank.
“I… will curse you…”
With that one-sided onslaught,
the battle ended, and the necromancer vanished.
However, I did not let my
guard down for a moment.
I’ve been blindsided in
similar situations before.
Fortunately, this time, a
proper way out appeared.
Thank goodness.
Oh, Agra’s Curse is really
annoying.
Back when this was just a
game, I used to cheer when Agra got involved, but now it’s
something to be feared.
I want to get stronger
quickly.
Strong enough to want Agra’s
Curse in the dungeons I visit.
The variables created by
Agra’s Curse provide better rewards than the dungeon’s level
itself.
Well, that’s a story for
later.
What rewards did I get from
this dungeon?
I looked at the table that had
appeared at the entrance and saw a black orb.
Is this a remnant of the
necromancer?
When I checked it, I used
[Appraisal], and a message window appeared before me.
[Necromancer’s Trace]
[A black orb filled with the
grudge left behind as the necromancer died.]
Why am I getting an item
that’s only useful when you play as a necromancer?
It’s completely useless to
me.
I wasn’t happy about it, but
I couldn’t exchange it either.
So, I just put the item in my
pocket.
‘Karl…’
“Sloppy. Let’s head back.”
“Yes, Miss.”
As we stepped out of the
dripping-wet dungeon, I realised I looked like a drowned rat.
My school uniform seemed like
it had been dunked in water, and my hair was so soaked that it felt
like a weight on my neck.
Ugh, it’s so uncomfortable.
I couldn’t wait to get back to
the dorm and clean up.
But first, I needed to collect
my rewards.
With the dungeon cleared, the
door that was blocking the way to the room had vanished.
I created a light to
illuminate the dark room once again.
It turned out to be a kind of
storage space.
Maybe because the dungeon had
blocked the path, the items inside, though old, were relatively
intact.
“This place…”
‘In this mansion…’
“It’s the belongings of
the sloppy inhabitants who once lived in this decrepit mansion.”
The items stored here, likely
used by the former residents of this large mansion, were fairly
valuable.
Selling everything here could
easily fetch a dozen gold coins or so. However, my purpose was not
the treasures in this place.
As a member of a Count’s
family, money is merely something I can use whenever I want.
Standing at the entrance, I
looked around the inside of the storage room and spotted the item I
was looking for. I walked decisively into the storage room.
I heard Karl trying to hold me
back from behind, but I ignored him.
There’s no point in
listening to that coward at times like this.
If it were really dangerous,
Grandpa would have said something.
I picked up a dusty ribbon
from a corner of the storage room and spoke to the air.
“This is what you were
looking for, right? Take it.”
As soon as I finished
speaking, the ribbon turned to ash and scattered without a trace.
Thank you.
Along with that voice, several
message windows appeared in front of me.
[Quest Clear!]
[You receive a reward.]
[Skill: No More Grudges.]
Nice. Just like in the game,
it got resolved well.
The skill [No More Grudges] is
essentially designed for fighting undead.
It has various features like
reducing the damage taken from undead and increasing the damage dealt
to them, but the main aspect of this skill lies elsewhere.
It blocks curses below a
certain level. In the future, when facing Agra, I’ll likely be
dealing with various curses.
Without this skill, I might
end up dying a random and senseless death somewhere.
Feeling good about acquiring
the skill I wanted, I turned around to leave and saw Karl, whose face
had gone pale.
“M… Miss. Just now… the
voice…”
He’s really a scaredy-cat.
The next day, after returning
to Soul Academy with Karl, who couldn’t even walk properly because
his legs were weak from fear, I decided to look for NPC #1 right
after class.
Why do I call her NPC #1 you
ask? Well, I don’t know her name.
Even if I asked, she probably
wouldn’t tell me.
So, just as the [Mesugaki]
Skill refers to her as NPC #1, I decided to call her that too.
There’s no point in finding
out the name of an NPC unrelated to the favorability system anyway.
As soon as NPC #1 saw my face,
she quickly lowered her head and pretended to be asleep.
Her fingers, nervously moving
under her arms, made it clear she was desperately hoping I’d leave.
Unfortunately for her, that
wish wouldn’t come true.
I came specifically to see
her. When I sat across the table from NPC #1, she flinched slightly.
Does she really think I
believe she’s sleeping?
‘Hey.’
“NPC #1.”
There was no response.
Hmm. So that’s how you want to
play it?
Let’s see how long you can
keep this up.
‘Hey, get up.’
“NPC. Get up.”
This time, her shoulder
twitched a bit.
But she still didn’t lift her
head.
“NPC♡ Do you not have
ears?♡ Get up♡”
At that, NPC #1 finally lifted
her head.
Her face was red, clearly
annoyed by the provocation.
“What do you want?”
Despite her anger, she
couldn’t lash out, which showed just how notorious Lucy’s (my)
reputation was.
She knew that if she picked a
fight with me, it would only hurt her in the end, so she was holding
back her frustration.
She’ll probably curse me out
behind my back with her friends once I leave.
It was obvious, since she had
called me the “Rowdy Lady” when she was gossiping about me
with Karl.
“Lady Allen?”
“I brought this. For you,
NPC #1.”
I handed her the item she had
asked Karl to find, along with the key to the mansion.
NPC #1 stared at the two items
and then narrowed her eyes at me.
“…This is what I asked
Mr. Karl for.”
‘It’s just an errand.’
“Can’t you tell, NPC? I’m
just here on an errand.”
In truth, I came to deliver a
message to NPC #1 myself.
“How do you know Mr.
Karl, Lady Allen?”
She seemed curious about many
things as she glared at me, but I didn’t answer her question.
Instead, I said what I came to
say.
‘Take care, Necromancer. And
moderate the gossip.’
“Take care, NPC
Necromancer. You know what will happen if you keep gossiping, right?”
NPC #1’s expression changed
dramatically.
She went from angry to
puzzled, and now her face was pale.
Her face was changing colours
so much, she could be a traffic light.
She stammered, attempting to
make an excuse, but I didn’t listen as I got up from my seat.
Having warned her about
gossiping with the threat of blackmail, she probably won’t do it
again.
Evening at the Soul Academy.
It was the time when the
students of the Academy could roam the streets freely, and Bisi Bell
made her way to the mansion in the back alley.
The mansion, rumoured to be
haunted, was as quiet as ever because hardly anyone visited.
As Bisi Bell opened the
mansion’s door and stepped inside, the wood creaked underfoot.
“Bisi! You’re here?”
At that moment, a voice came
from behind her.
It was reasonable to be
surprised as the voice came without any prior indication, but Bisi
Bell remained calm.
“Why don’t you just greet
me normally?”
“That’s no fun. Bisi, you’re
always so composed.”
“It’s just that you’re
not very good at startling people.”
Only after Bisi answered did
something semi-transparent descend from the ceiling.
It took the form of a little
girl wearing worn-out pyjamas.
“No! I am really good at
scaring people!”
“Really? That’s very
reassuring, Adri.”
Adri, the ghost residing in
the mansion who had once been a resident, puffed her cheeks in
protest.
“I’m telling you the truth!
Just yesterday, I scared someone into fainting!”
“Whoever it was, they
must be a real scaredy-cat…”
‘Yesterday? That must have
been when that damn Rowdy Lady had come by.’
“Hey, by any chance, was
it that obnoxious girl with the deep pink hair?”
‘Aha. So, that arrogant
Rowdy Lady is still just a girl, huh?
Afraid of ghosts, it seems?’
“No? The one who got scared
was the blonde knight!”
The blonde knight…
“Is it Karl?”
Did he come here because he
heard my request?
Bisi couldn’t help but laugh
as she imagined Karl, trembling in fear because of Adri.
‘So, even someone as
impressive as him has a weakness.’
“The girl who came with him
wasn’t scared of me at all, even though she knew I was there!”
“You mean the girl with
pink hair?”
“Yes!”
‘So, those two came to the
mansion together yesterday?
What relationship do they
have?
Considering they came to such
a secluded place together, they must be pretty close.
Well, since they have a handle
on my weakness, even if I knew their relationship, I couldn’t say
much.’
“Adri, did you by any
chance tell that girl about me?”
“No? I didn’t have a single
conversation with her.”
Of course.
No ordinary person could talk
to a ghost like Adri, unless they were a necromancer.
‘Then how did she figure out
that I am a necromancer?’
“Adri, can you tell me
what happened here yesterday?”
“Of course!”
