Mesugaki Tank Enters the Academy –
    47

    The door opened, and the
principal of Soul Academy, Judy Alber, appeared with dark circles
    under her eyes.

It’s just a guess, but she
probably hasn’t rested properly since dealing with yesterday’s
    events.

    ‘Hello, Principal.’

    “Hello, old principal.”

    Calling the principal old?

Her hair has turned white, and
her face is wrinkled, so she definitely looks old, but still, she’s
the principal of the Academy. Isn’t calling her “old” a bit
    too much?

    Though such a thought arose
naturally, the words that came out of my mouth couldn’t be taken
    back.

    Fortunately, Judy just laughed
it off despite being called an old lady.

Is it okay to call Judy, who
has such a good personality, old? Or is she letting this little
rudeness slide because I’m in the position of a victim?

In any case, she didn’t seem
too upset, which is a relief.

‘I came to file a complaint.’

“I came to file a complaint
about what happened at this sloppy Academy.”

    As soon as the word
“complaint” was mentioned, Judy gave a wry smile.

    “A complaint, huh? Lady
Allen, you certainly have that right. It seems like this will be a
long discussion, so would you like to come inside first, Lady Allen?”

    ‘Yes, that’s fine.’

    “You’re trying to lure me
inside? It seems suspicious, but I’ll go along with it for now.”

“Ha ha. How could I ever
    harm Lady Allen?”

    The principal’s office at Soul
Academy looked exactly like it did in the game.

    Even the bookshelf filled with
numerous ancient books. The worn out staff leaning against the wall.
Even the parrot that made loud noises along with the BGM in the game.

If this place is set up
exactly like in the game, then the secret passage behind the
bookshelf should be there too, right?

As I was sitting on the sofa
admiring the familiar scenery of the principal’s office, Judy was the
    first to speak.

    “Lady Allen, are you
    alright?”

    ‘Yes. I’m fine.’

“How do you think I got
    here?”

    “Yes. It’s a relief.”

    Though I almost died, it’s
    true that I’m actually fine.

When I nodded, Judy let out a
    sigh of relief.

“First of all, I would like
    to express my gratitude.

    According to the testimonies
of Lady Partan and Riz, who woke up last night, it was thanks to your
leadership, Lady Allen, that they were able to escape without any
    harm.

Had it not been for your quick
thinking, there could have been casualties due to our Academy’s
negligence. We are truly grateful to you for preventing that.”

    Uh. What?

    “At the same time, I
apologise. Because we did not have proper defences, you were put in
    grave danger, Lady Allen.

I know that mere words cannot
make up for this. If there is anything you wish for, please let us
know. If it is within our means, we will do our best to cooperate.”

Seeing Judy bow her head was
so unexpected and bewildering since I didn’t foresee this situation
turning out this way. I was momentarily at a loss for words.

    Calm down. The fact that
they’re acknowledging their fault means the situation is tilting in
    my favour.

    ‘Uh, so… what I want
    is…’

“What I want is simple. I
want Kerta’s Crystal Ball, one of the Magic Tools this sloppy Academy
is storing. If you give me that, I’ll generously overlook yesterday’s
    mishap.”

As soon as I mentioned the
Magic Tool required to learn Fountain of Mana, Judy let out a small
    groan.

    Kerta’s Crystal Ball is
considered a valuable item among various Magic Tools present within
    Soul Academy.

Of course, it would be hard to
easily hand over something so valuable.

“How do you know about that
    Magic Tool?”

    ‘Is that important?’

    “Are you trying to question
me? That’s very unpleasant. Old principal.”

    At last, things are starting
    to go as I planned.

    Now, if Judy rejects my
proposal, I’ll follow the plan I had prepared.

    “That’s not my
    intention… Alright. Understood.”

    Huh? What did she say?

    “Please wait for a moment.”

    Saying this, Judy rose from
her seat, excused herself, and briefly stepped out.I couldn’t
    understand what was happening.

Is Judy really going to get
    Kerta’s Crystal Ball?

Did she really decide to hand
over the crystal ball without any negotiation or persuasion?

    ‘Well, that’s true.’

    But if Judy simply retrieves
Kerta’s Crystal Ball, what happens to my plan to blackmail her using
    her past?

This would make me look like
    the only bad person here!

Why did Judy agree so easily?

In the game, she only handed
over Kerta’s Crystal Ball as a reward after completing a series of
    annoying quests!

And now she’s giving it to
    me just like that!

On second thought, this is a
    good thing.

    It’s definitely favourable,
but I can’t help feeling a bit of guilt seeing the gap building in my
    moral standards.

Judy really is a good person
    in this world too.

Unlike Grandpa in the Mace who
    never stops nagging.

    ‘…Not at all?’

    Grandpa sure has sharp
    instincts, even when it’s unnecessary.

    Not long after, Judy returned
to the room and handed me a purple crystal ball.

    “Is this what you wanted?”

    Through the semi-transparent
purple crystal, I could see a lake of mana.

    Judging by its appearance,
this was undoubtedly Kerta’s Crystal Ball.

    ‘This is…’

    “Is this Kerta’s Crystal
    Ball?”

    “Yes, it is. The Archmage
Kerta created this treasure by weaving his vast knowledge into it.”

How I wish I could appraise it
    like in the game.

If this were a game, I’d be
able to distinguish whether it’s real or fake right away.

For now, I suppose I have no
choice but to trust Judy’s character.

    “Don’t worry. How could I
give something false to the Lady of the Allen Family?”

    Did she notice my doubt?

    Judy spoke to reassure me.

    “Also, I’m not giving this
to you for free. Consider it a bribe.”

    ‘A bribe?’

“A bribe? What do you mean
    by that?”

    “When the Iron-Blooded
Knight’s anger reaches the Academy, I hope you can help calm him
down. The Count is weak to you, after all.”

    At first, I was perplexed
about why she mentioned Benedict, but Judy’s explanation made sense.

    No matter the circumstances, I
almost died taking the entrance exam yesterday.

    What kind of reaction would
Benedict have upon hearing this news?

The man loses all reason when
it comes to matters involving his daughter. Who knows what he might
do? He’d probably unleash his fury on this Academy.

And that fury would be immense
and fierce, something no ordinary person would dare face.

    However, I was the exception
    here.

If I told him to take it easy,
Benedict would definitely heed my words.

He did the same last time when
it involved Karl. So, Kerta’s Crystal Ball was both a reward and part
    of a transaction.

She’s giving it to me in
    exchange for calming Benedict’s anger.

    Benedict must be quite an
    important person.

    The fact that Judy, the
principal of the prestigious Soul Academy, is wary of his wrath
    speaks volumes.

    ‘I understand. I will help
    you.’

    “An old principal who fears
my foolish father? Alright then, if my foolish father does something
stupid, I’ll help calm the situation.”

    Thanks to that doting father,
things seem to be working out more smoothly.

I’ll have to give my thanks
    later.

    I can’t exactly say thanks
with the Mesugaki translation, so maybe a little playful charm will
    do.

It was a bit mortifying to
call him a foolish father once again, but it was manageable.

I had already lowered my pride
    to some extent.

As I nodded, a hint of relief
appeared on Judy’s previously tense face.

    “Thank you, Lady Allen. Ah,
and may I ask one more favour?”

    “What is it?”

    “I apologise if this brings
back painful memories, but could you tell me what happened in the
    dungeon yesterday?”

    Ah, that?

Are you choosing to hear it
    yourself instead of Luca?

That works out well. I don’t
want to talk about it with Luca.

But I can discuss it with you,
    Judy.

    Consider it something in
return for what I’ve received. I’ll tell you everything I can.

    ‘I understand.’

“I can do at least that
    much.”

    Even though I had obtained
Kerta’s Crystal Ball, I didn’t use it right away.

    I remembered what happened
when I drank the elixir last time and just couldn’t bring myself to
    do it.

    When you use Kerta’s Crystal
Ball, you gain the ‘Fountain of Mana’ skill, which increases your
maximum mana and recovery rate, right?

    So, it would definitely lead
to a situation similar to when I drank the elixir.

I don’t want to writhe in pain
on the ground or faint and lose an entire day.

    Therefore, I decided to wait
until the end of the day and use this magic tool back at the dorm.

I handed the Crystal Ball to
Karl for safekeeping and left Soul Academy, heading towards the
Church of Armadi within the Academy.

While checking to see if Joy
and Jacob were okay, I also planned to receive baptism.

    What skills would Armadi give
    his Apostle?

    In Soul Academy, when you
become an Apostle of a god, you receive a skill befitting that god.

For example, the God of War
might give a skill advantageous in group battles, the God of Arts
might give a skill related to charm or dexterity, and the God of
Flames might greatly increase fire resistance and proficiency in fire
    magic.

    While I knew exactly what
skills Apostles of gods would get, I had no idea about the skills
    given by Armadi.

    Because Armadi had never shown
    up directly at Soul Academy.

    His name was only mentioned,
but he never participated in earthly affairs.

Come to think of it, even in
the game, Armadi was a useless and lazy god.

Even though Armadi is a sloppy
and incompetent god, he is still the centrepiece of all the gods.

    Considering that an Apostle’s
skills are proportional to the power of the god, he would surely give
    a decent skill.

    My heart is racing.

Even I, who have played Soul
Academy for over ten thousand hours, am seeing this skill for the
    first time.

    I hope it’s a versatile and
    fun skill to use.

If it turns out to be an
amazing skill that surprises me, I might even call Armadi by his name
    respectfully instead of an insult.

    “Lady Allen.”

    The person guarding the
entrance of the church was one of the priests who treated me
    yesterday.

As soon as he saw my face, he
stepped back, then, realising he was the only one who could deal with
    me, stopped in his tracks.

    What I noticed while being
treated at the church yesterday was that Lucy’s infamous reputation
    was known everywhere.

Even the priests at the Church
of Armadi within Soul Academy were all wary of me.

    The reason was obvious, even
without knowing exactly—Lucy had caused many problems at the church
    in the past.

    Despite carrying the cross of
Armadi, which would have raised their favorability towards me to some
extent, seeing their reactions made me wonder what the situation
would be like without this cross.

I don’t even want to imagine
    it.

“To what do we owe the
    pleasure of this visit?”

‘Am I not allowed to come
    here?’

    “Sloppy priest. What am
I, a demon? Am I not allowed to step foot in the church?”

    “No, that’s not what I
    meant. I mean, um…”

When I asked with a frown, the
priest visibly panicked and waved his hands.

    I thought about teasing him
more because his reaction was amusing, but I had more pressing
matters to attend to, so I let it go.

    ‘Just kidding. I…’

“It’s just a joke, so stop
being so sloppy. I’m here to receive the baptism.”

    “What? Baptism? Why would
    Lady Allen need that?”

    ‘Because I have become an
    Apostle of Armadi.’

    “I’ve been chosen as an
Apostle of the God you believe in.”

    “…What?!”
