Mesugaki Tank Enters the Academy –
41
It was almost a predetermined
future that Agra would come to hinder me.
As an Evil God, he never
leaves those who could trouble him alone.
Look at his pettiness, cursing
those with blessings to nip them in the bud.
He doesn’t watch his
adversaries grow proudly.
I knew this.
Despite that, the reason I was
flustered was that I hadn’t expected to be under Agra’s watch so
soon, especially in the Academy’s dungeon.
The Academy’s dungeon isn’t
like ordinary dungeons.
This is an artificially
created extradimensional space by the Academy.
While it takes the form of a
dungeon, Agra’s influence is extremely minimal here.
Thus, it is burdensome even
for Agra to interfere in this place.
In the game, Agra wouldn’t
interfere with the Academy’s dungeon until after I had broken at
least three curses and had become a complete nemesis to him.
Just breaking one of Agra’s
curses shouldn’t have prompted him to interfere in this dungeon.
So why in the world is Agra
already watching me?
Why does he perceive me as
such an annoyance that he would interfere in the Academy’s dungeon?
Could it be because Armadi is
watching me?
Does he think Armadi’s
blessing has reached me?
Seriously, what an utterly
useless Main God.
While Agra is actively trying
to suppress his adversaries, you leave the people under your watch
alone!
Shouldn’t you be giving some
blessing, opportunity, or at least preventing Agra from interfering?!
Right.
It was my mistake to expect
that god, who did nothing even in the game, to be any different.
While I was fervently complaining to that useless god, a peculiar
sound resonated from one corner of the boss room, and a door surged
up from the ground.
The eerie aura emanating from
the door clearly indicated it was a passage to a dungeon.
“…Can a dungeon appear
within another dungeon?”
“This is the first time I’ve
heard of such a thing as well.”
Seeing Joy and Jacob’s
bewildered expressions, a wave of guilt washed over me.
These two were merely caught
up in my troubles.
They had no connection to
Agra, yet his interest in me adversely affected them.
Given the circumstances, it
was my responsibility to take charge.
If anything happens to them
from now on, it would all be my fault.
‘For now, calm down.’
“Hey, you sloppy bunch. Calm
down.”
“How can we calm down in
this situation?”
‘Even the Academy must have
noticed by now. So…’
“No matter how sloppy the
Academy may be, they must have caught on to the situation. If we
wait, they’ll come to save us, if only to save their own necks.”
Present here are the Lady of
the Allen Family and the Lady of the Partan Family.
Even if something happens to
just one of them, the Academy would be overturned, but if both are
affected?
If things get serious, a
bloodbath might ensue within the Academy.
So, if they value their lives,
they’ll do everything in their power to resolve the issue.
“…You’re right. They
must be observing what’s happening.”
“The professors at Soul
Academy should resolve the problem quickly!”
In the actual game, when
issues arose during the Academy exams, players were given two
choices. One option is to directly confront Agra’s Curse.
Whether a new dungeon or a
weird monster appears, the user must lift the curse and survive.
The other option is to endure.
If you don’t have the
confidence to overcome the phenomena caused by Agra’s Curse, you can
pass the time inside the dungeon.
Soon, the Academy will come to
rescue us, and we’ll be able to leave safely.
If Joy and Jacob weren’t here,
I might have chosen to attack the dungeon.
The phenomenon caused by
Agra’s Curse has a high difficulty level, but it also offers
substantial rewards.
However, right now, I don’t
plan to choose that option.
I have more than just my life
on the line.
I don’t want to see Jacob
die, nor do I want to lose Joy, one of my favourite characters.
So, I have to choose the
safest course of action.
Fortunately, the situation
isn’t the worst it could be.
Since a dungeon appeared
thanks to Agra’s Curse, it’s somewhat manageable.
If a different monster or
curse had manifested inside this dungeon, enduring it would have been
tough.
But with a dungeon, it’s
okay.
No matter how dangerous a
dungeon is, it is still just a dungeon.
As long as we don’t enter
it, nothing will happen.
So, all we need to do is wait
patiently outside the dungeon for the Academy’s rescue.
“There’s nothing to worry
about. I panicked for no reason.”
‘Nothing will happen.’
“Airhead Lady, more scared
than you look, huh? Don’t worry. Nothing’s going to happen.”
“Who said I was scared?!”
Even though you were just
panicking and didn’t know what to do a moment ago, you’re really
pretending now.
Well. I get it.
Since I’m such a considerate
person, I’ll pretend not to notice.
As everyone was sighing in
relief, Grandpa suddenly raised his voice.
The floor? Listening to
Grandpa, I turned my gaze around and heard something cracking.
Crack. Crack.
The ominous sound of something
gradually splitting apart.
Damn it!
I moved my body before I could
speak.
“Run!”
I hugged Joy next to me and
shouted for Jacob to run.
We need to get out of this
room before the floor collapses.
Otherwise, we’ll be forced
to enter the dungeon! However, by the time we realised something was
wrong with the room, it was too late to escape.
The floor gave way before we
could step outside, and we fell.
Ah, damn it. My head hurts
like hell.
It’s not just my head.
There’s not a single part of my body that’s not in pain.
It’s like that feeling after
staying up all night training with the Knights and waking up the next
day.
Who keeps calling me?
Let me sleep.
I’m exhausted and in pain.
I’m a noble Lady, so I
should be allowed to sleep in, right?
<Lucy! Wake up! I opened my
eyes quickly at the sound of Grandpa calling me.
Just below me was Joy's face.
She was unconscious but breathing comfortably.
What on earth is going on?
‘Grandpa, what on earth?’
When I heard the word ‘fall,’
I remembered what had just happened.
The floor of the dungeon
collapsed, and we fell down. Realising this, my senses began to
return to normal.
Various parts of my body were
bruised and aching, and I felt a heavy weight pressing down on my
back.
‘Grandpa, what’s on my
back?’
When it came to moments like
these, Grandpa’s words were never wrong. I gritted my teeth and
pushed off whatever was weighing on my back.
Soon, with a series of
thudding noises, the pressure on my back disappeared.
Freed from the debris, I could
take in my surroundings.
The scenery looked quite
similar to the “Place Where the Alchemist Stayed.”
The difference was that the
previous dungeon was a ruined building after the Alchemist had
disappeared, whereas this one didn’t seem ruined yet.
Damn it. Are we really
screwed?
The difference in difficulty
between the two is stark.
So many things change
depending on whether or not an Alchemist is present.
To be candid, this place is
not somewhere I can conquer with my current abilities.
I was simply under-levelled.
Just like how I couldn’t
even put up a fight against a Minotaur before and was completely
obliterated, this dungeon posed a similar level of danger to me.
Damn you, Agra.
Do you really want me dead
that badly?
“Mmm.”
While I was thinking about how
to survive, Joy woke up with a small moan.
She seemed to be uninjured,
possibly because I had shielded her from the debris. She slowly got
up, looked around, and spoke in a hoarse voice.
“Lady Allen. Where are we?”
‘Just now…’
“This is probably inside
that creepy dungeon that just appeared.”
“…Where is Young Master
Jacob?”
‘I don’t know.’
“I don’t know where that
small fry is. I just woke up.”
I assume he must be somewhere
nearby.
He wasn’t far from us
before.
As long as he doesn’t panic
and wander off, we should be able to find him without much
difficulty.
“Then we should find him
quickly. Ouch!”
Joy, who had been trying to
get up in a rush, suddenly cried out and fell back to the ground.
When I looked down, I noticed
that her ankle was completely twisted.
Did she injure it during the
recent fall?
‘Joy…’
“Airhead Lady. Stay still
even though it hurts.”
“Pardon?”
I knelt down and placed my
hand on the Airhead Lady’s ankle.
I never expected to use
Armadi’s Mercy during the Academy entrance exam.
As the miracle of healing
unfolded from my hand, Joy’s ankle quickly returned to its normal
state.
“What on earth…”
‘Try moving it.’
“Airhead Lady. Try moving
it.”
Joy cautiously stood up again
and, unlike before, was able to move her foot perfectly fine.
Thankfully, I have a healing
skill.
Otherwise, I would have had to
carry Joy around this dungeon while we continued moving.
“Thank you, Lady Allen.”
‘It’s okay.’
“Don’t mention it.”
“But…”
As soon as I heard Grandpa’s
words, I turned my gaze towards the door.
Who could it be?
A chimaera? Or maybe a fully
restored golem? If not, then perhaps some beast tamed by an
alchemist? Any of these options would be dangerous enough to take our
lives.
Since we couldn’t even figure
out our exact location, it would be difficult to escape—what should
we do?!
Eventually, something in the
shape of a human, but covered entirely with eyes, entered through the
door.
An unsleeping watchman.
Chimera Argos.
It was safe if it was just
that.
I hastily covered Joy’s
mouth and whispered to her.
‘Stay still.’
“Shut up, Airhead Lady.”
Because of the numerous eyes,
Argos couldn’t see ahead with any of them.
Due to the countless residual
images reflected in every eye, it couldn’t see anything properly.
It’s like watching 50
security monitors at the same time. You can’t see any of them
correctly if you are trying to look at all of them.
Therefore, Argos does not
suspect anything stationary.
It lacks the ability to
differentiate between what was already here and users standing still.
At least, this was the case in
the game.
It must be the same in
reality.
It has to be.
Argos looked around the room
and then stopped right in front of us.
Countless eyes stared at us.
Go away. Please just leave.
Stop leering at us with those
disgusting eyes and disappear!
Perhaps my prayers worked.
Argos did nothing and then
went back outside the room.
After the sound of its
footsteps faded into the distance, I removed my hand from Joy’s
mouth. She collapsed to the floor as if all her strength had left
her.
Tears welled up in her eyes,
which had been desperately holding back fear just moments ago.
“What… What is this
place?”
