Mesugaki Tank Enters the Academy –
3
As soon as I knocked on the
door, a stern voice came from inside.
“Come in.”
I pushed open the door, which
seemed twice as tall as me, and took a deep breath.
This shoddy Mesugaki. How
little exercise did she do for her body to be in this state?
After a few deep breaths to
calm myself, I entered. Lucy’s father, Benedict Allen, who was
working on some documents, looked up.
Slightly raised eyebrows and
expressionless eyes. A handsome face with a beard covering his mouth
and a chiselled jawline.
Below that, muscles so massive
it was hard to tell where his neck ended and his shoulders began.
Overall, Benedict gave the
impression of being more of an orc or troll than a human. He looked
at me and soon broke into a surprisingly gentle smile that didn’t
match his appearance.
“Lucy. What is it?”
Though he’s known as the
‘Iron-blooded Knight’ and a figure of fear to others, in front of
Lucy, he was nothing more than a doting father.
It was no wonder that Lucy
could become the tyrant of the mansion.
With this fearsome man doting
on Lucy, who would dare to scold her!
‘I just wanted to see you.’
“Foolish Father. Why do I
need a reason to visit you?”
“Now that you mention it! My
Lucy doesn’t need a reason to come see me!”
Look at him, overjoyed despite
being called a fool by his daughter.
Surely, this man would be
happy even if Lucy called him a weakling or an idiot.
Benedict, with a broad smile
on his face, put down his quill and spread his arms wide.
When I first possessed Lucy’s
body, I didn’t understand what that gesture meant, but now I do.
For the past three days, I had
been tormented by this foolishly devoted troll, so I knew exactly
what he wanted.
Although I didn’t want to do
it; although the thought of it made me want to bite my tongue, the
fact was I needed to ask Benedict for something.
The better I managed to cheer
up this troll, the higher the chances were that he would grant my
request later.
Yes, there was no other
choice. My survival depended on it.
With those thoughts spinning
in my head, I tightly shut my eyes and threw myself into the troll’s
embrace.
There was no need to worry
about anything going wrong.
Even if I gave it my all and
tried to tackle him with my whole body, I wouldn’t be able to leave
a single scratch on the troll’s body.
Benedict easily caught me and
let out a hearty laugh.
“Lucy. No matter what, it’s
dangerous to jump into someone with your eyes closed.”
‘I trusted you.’
“Foolish Father. Are you
some weakling who can’t even catch me?”
“Of course not. Do you even
know who I am?”
Benedict smiled with his eyes
and, with hands larger than Lucy’s(my) face, stroked my hair.
He didn’t seem like someone
who could be delicate, but his touch was incredibly gentle.
Even as a total stranger, I
could see how much Benedict cared for Lucy.
‘Hey.’
“Foolish Father.”
“What is it, Lucy?”
‘I have a favour to ask…’
“There’s something I want
to ask.”
“Go on.”
‘In a few months…’
“The Academy exams are
coming up soon, right?”
I am his adorable daughter.
I am the adorable daughter of
this troll…
Can a troll really have a cute
daughter?
Who cares? Don’t worry about
that. Just focus on getting on Benedict’s good side right now.
“Um…”
“I’m worried about that…”
Lucy is pretty. Even her
cringe-worthy actions come off as cute.
For example, if she sat on
Benedict’s lap and kicked her legs like she was playing in the water,
she would look like a girl with genuine concerns!
“Is that so? What do you
want me to do for you? If it’s within my power, I’ll do
anything!”
Benedict, the doting father,
fell for it so easily.
Thinking I had a serious
concern, he raised his chin and declared confidently.
Is it okay for you to act like
this?
Should you really make such
offers so lightly?
Not that I’m going to stop
you!
‘Really?’
“Really?”
“Of course! When has your
father ever lied to you?”
There’s no turning back now.
I can’t refuse something
that’s offered.
He wants to show off as a cool
dad, so I should let him feel good.
‘Then…’
“Then can I take something I
need from the storage?”
“Is there something you want
in there?”
“Yes!”
“Alright, feel free to take
whatever you need.”
As Benedict affirmed and
smiled, I smiled back at him.
Didn’t you say I could take
whatever I want?
No matter how much I take now,
it’s not my fault, right? It’s your fault for giving permission,
isn’t it?
After receiving Benedict’s
permission, I acted all cute to lift his mood, but as soon as I left
the office, I started gagging.
It was a severe mental strain.
Who would have thought I’d
ever have to act sweet toward a man?
I had decided to give up my
dignity for survival, but this was a heavy blow to my pride.
For once, I was thankful for
the [Mesugaki] skill.
If the skill didn’t somewhat
force my actions, I would have collapsed a long time ago.
But still, I gained a lot.
Now I can take what I want
from the Allen Family’s storage.
It’s time to show my farming
prowess as a seasoned player of Soul Academy.
To the damn god who placed me
in this [Mesugaki]’s body, please allow me to farm righteously just
for today.
Even though I said that, I
don’t plan on taking everything in there.
No matter how much Benedict
dotes on Lucy, there are limits.
I’m only planning to take a
few essential items.
Even though those items may be
somewhat valuable, Benedict is a generous person, so it should be
fine.
Probably.
Even though I got permission
to enter the storage, I couldn’t go there immediately.
The key to the storage wasn’t
with Benedict but with the head butler of the mansion, so I had to
find him first.
As I walked through the
corridor looking for the head butler, I saw a maid cleaning a window
and decided to talk to her.
‘Excuse me.’
“Hey, you.”
The moment the maid heard my
voice, she froze and turned her head mechanically like a robot.
What was with that expression?
Did she see a monster?
Does she hate Lucy that much?
Okay, to be honest, if I were
her, I’d probably hate her too.
But she shouldn’t show it on
her face. The old Lucy would have immediately picked a fight and made
her life miserable.
“Do you know where the
head butler is?”
“He’s overseeing the
cleaning of the first-floor lobby!”
‘Got it, thank you.’
“Really? Is that so?”
I still don’t understand how
this Mesugaki language translation works.
Why did the ‘thank you’ at the
end disappear?
Is showing gratitude to a maid
something a Mesugaki shouldn’t do?
With a sigh, I headed to the
first floor and found the head butler supervising the cleaning in the
lobby.
Unlike the earlier maid, he
maintained a respectful demeanour when he saw me.
“How can I assist you,
Miss?”
“I want to access the
storage.”
“I apologise, Miss. You
need permission from the Count for that.”
‘I’ve received permission.’
“Do you think I’m making
a fuss without permission, you useless butler?”
“My apologies, Miss. I
didn’t know you had already received it.”
Despite being spoken to
aggressively by a girl barely at his waist level, the head butler’s
expression didn’t waver in the slightest.
Is this… the dignity of an
adult?
The head butler gave some
instructions to a maid and then led me towards the storage.
As expected, the Allen
Family’s storage was quite large.
I knew it. In the game,
looting a count’s household always yielded a lot.
Most of the items looked like
valuable commodities such as gold or jewels.
They seemed expensive, but
right now, cash was meaningless to me.
What good is having lots of
money if I have no way to spend it?
More importantly, I could get
as many of these items as I wanted later.
What I needed now were items
that could be useful immediately.
As I scanned the inside for a
while, I realised it wasn’t easy to find what I was looking for.
This huge storage was filled
with countless items.
If this were a game, I could
tell what each item was just by looking at it, but identifying them
with my own eyes was nearly impossible.
This won’t do. I might have
to acquire an identification skill later.
For now, should I just ask the
head butler to find it for me?
‘Head butler…’
“Useless butler. Where’s
the Elixir?”
The Elixir.
A coveted item pursued
fervently by the veterans of Soul Academy.
The effect of the Elixir is
simple.
By consuming it, a specific
stat permanently increases without any conditions.
To quickly boost the poor
physical abilities of this spoiled Mesugaki, I needed the Elixir.
I did some rough tests
yesterday, and with Lucy’s (my) current body, I couldn’t even lift
a weapon, let alone run outside.
What’s the point of training
with a body that feels like it’s going to burst after running for
just 20 seconds?
I need to at least be able to
move properly to start any training!
So, give me the Elixir. There
should be at least two or three stored in the Count’s vault.
“Why are you looking for
the Elixir?”
The head butler responded with
a question to my query. Why do you think?
‘Am I…’
“I’m going to drink it.
Why?”
“…Miss, the Elixir will
certainly make you stronger, but it comes with a price. When you
consume it, you will experience excruciating pain as your body
twists. Are you aware of that?”
Excruciating pain as my body
twists? There wasn’t any mention of that in the game!
Aha. Head butler, you’re
trying to scare me off because the Elixirs are so precious and don’t
want me to take them, aren’t you?
How sneaky. But do you really
think I’ll be swayed by that?
I am a Soul Academy veteran!
Is there anything about this game I wouldn’t know?
‘It’s fine.’
“Useless butler, just hand
them over quietly.”
“If you insist… Fine.”
The head butler hesitated for
a moment, then finally nodded and brought me the Elixirs.
“This one increases
strength, and these ones increases stamina.”
Two stamina-increasing
Elixirs, exactly what I need. Plus, one strength-increasing Elixir.
When I saw them, I nearly
screamed with delight.
I would have been happy with
just one stamina Elixir, but to have two! Plus, the strength Elixir
is also something I desperately need!
If someone asks me to choose
the happiest moment since I became Lucy, I would confidently say it’s
now.
“Which one will you take?”
“All of them.”
“Pardon?”
‘I’m taking all of them.’
“Useless butler, are you too
old to hear properly? I said I’m taking all of them.”
The number is just perfect!
At Soul Academy, you can only
consume three Elixirs per year.
And coincidentally, the butler
brought me exactly three.
This is a fate bestowed by the
heavens. So, I must take all of these.
I felt no guilt.
In my situation, these are
essential for my survival. What guilt could there be?
The original Lucy was probably
set to take all of these anyway!
