    ## Darkness Descends 18

    – The Phoenix Falls

The storm raged. The wind and rain battered against the locked door, forcing their way in.

    *Drip! Drip!*

Water trickled down the stairs. It wasn’t rainwater. It was a crimson liquid that had once flowed through someone’s veins, carrying life. Blood.

The blood flowed down from the top of the stairs. In front of a room on the third floor, the highest level. The third-floor hallway was already soaked in blood. A river of blood flowed through the hallway, leading to a single room at the end. Two female warriors lay dead in front of the door, their heads submerged in the pool of blood. Their hearts were missing.

The river of blood originated from their empty chest cavities. The white paper door was stained with a crimson flower, its petals spread wide. The door was tightly shut.

    “Kekeke!”

The man in black chuckled. The girl instinctively cowered, her face pale with fear.

    “Why are you trembling, Rin?”

    He asked.

    “S-stay away from me!”

She shouted, scrambling back, her back pressed against the wall. There was nowhere left to retreat.

“Stay away? Do I need permission to approach my own niece?”

Il-Cheon said, feigning concern, raising his bloodstained right hand.

    *Chirp, chirp. Flutter, flutter.*

The room was dimly lit, illuminated only by the faint light from the hallway. The small bird, noticing his blood-soaked hand, fluttered its wings anxiously, its chirps subdued. It circled its perch as Il-Cheon approached the girl, Na Ye-Rin.

    “U-uncle…”

    *Thud!*

Her back hit the cold wall. There was nowhere left to go.

“Trembling like a bird caught in the rain… how adorable.”

    *Flash!*

    Lightning flashed.

His eyes, wide and white, gleamed with a sinister light. His gaze was filled with lust, a dark and twisted desire that seeped into her mind. It was the gaze of a predator.

“Hehehe, your innocent eyes are more intoxicating than any poison. Your skin, soft as melted pearls, your lips, red and fragrant like pomegranates… Hehehe. Why do you drive me mad, Ye-Rin? I can’t hold back any longer!”

She saw it then, the dark desire swirling within him. Her cursed Dragon Eyes allowed her to see it clearly. The primal instinct of a beast, craving only pleasure!

A thick, viscous aura of malice emanated from him, its tendrils reaching out like a giant venomous insect.

“Come now, be a good girl. Come into your uncle’s arms.”

His shadow loomed over her, engulfing her small body. She squeezed her eyes shut and whimpered,

    “N-no!”

    Someone, please help me.

    *Flutter, flutter.*

The bird, the only witness to this scene, stood frozen, its wings fluttering helplessly.

“Huhuhu, scream louder! Your fear excites me. Come, let me tear into your soft flesh! It’s your destiny to be defiled. And I shall be the one to defile you!”

He slowly reached out towards her. She trembled like a rabbit caught in a snake’s gaze. She tried to scramble to the right, but another wall blocked her path.

He didn’t rush. He was savoring the moment, his lust and madness growing with each passing second.

“I won’t let anyone have you. Soon, you’ll be writhing in ecstasy, begging for more. Huhuhuhu!”

His laughter sent chills down her spine. His hot, fetid breath washed over her. She trembled with fear and disgust. It was terrifying. It was repulsive.

    ‘Please, someone help me! Please!’

But her pleas went unanswered. She felt suffocated by his overwhelming madness, his malice, his hot, putrid breath. The abyss of darkness awaited her, its jaws open wide.

    “Father!”

She cried out, using the last of her strength. His eyes blazed with fury at the sound of that word.

    *Slap!*

She was knocked to the ground. He had slapped her so hard that she couldn’t stay on her feet.

    *Thud!*

Before she could recover, her back hit the wall, her vision blurring. He had lifted her up and slammed her against the wall. Her small feet dangled in the air.

Her right cheek throbbed, her lips felt like they were on fire, she tasted blood. She couldn’t breathe.

“Hmph, that fool is too busy to come here! It’s just you and me. Don’t worry, we have plenty of time!”

He said, his eyes burning with madness. A drop of blood trickled down her chin and landed on the floor with a soft *plop*.

“Such a pretty face, ruined. But it has a certain charm, doesn’t it?”

He licked the blood off her chin. She froze, feeling his tongue, like a snake’s, slithering across her face.

He grabbed her slender neck with his left hand and slowly brought his right hand to her nape. She felt a chill as his sharp, metal claws touched her skin.

    “Hehehe, let’s begin!”

His claws traced a path down her delicate collarbone.

Her clothes parted, ripped apart by his sharp claws. His lust and madness were about to explode. He moaned, his hot breath washing over her.

She started to convulse, her mind fading. Or perhaps she was desperately trying to escape reality.

    “F-father… please, help…”

Tears welled up in her eyes and streamed down her cheeks.

    *Plop! Splat!*

Her tears splattered on the floor, mingling with the torn fabric of her clothes.

    “Aaaaaaargh!”

A scream, sharp and piercing, echoed through the room.

    *Crash!*

Il-Cheon, his eyes blazing with madness, turned his head. A shard of wood from the shattered door had struck his arm.

    “Who dares?!”

A figure burst into the room and grabbed his wrist with lightning speed, forcing him to release his grip. Ye-Rin slumped to the floor. The intruder caught her with their left hand and quickly covered her with a cloth from the table, using their right hand.

Il-Cheon, taking advantage of the distraction, kicked the intruder and jumped back. The intruder placed the unconscious Ye-Rin on the disheveled bed and turned around.

The light from the hallway flooded the room through the gaping hole where the door had been. Il-Cheon finally recognized the intruder.

    “B-brother…”

It was his brother, Na Baek-Cheon, who had broken down the door and snatched his prey from his grasp. His face was pale with fury.

“What is the meaning of this atrocity?! I’m your brother! And she’s your niece, a child of twelve!”

    “B-brother, you see, this is…”

‘Damn it, my plan is ruined.’

His face was flustered, but his heart was cold and calculating. He had already retracted his right arm into his sleeve. Fortunately, Na Baek-Cheon was too preoccupied with his daughter to notice that he had a right hand.

“You beast! How could you do such a thing?!”

Na Baek-Cheon roared. Il-Cheon, realizing that his plan had failed, swung his sword. It was the White Soul Sword Thunder Sword Style, the technique he had learned from his brother. His attack was filled with killing intent.

    *Clang!*

Na Baek-Cheon, shocked by his brother’s audacity, blocked the attack.

“You fool! You dare to attack your own brother? You’re committing a heinous crime!”

“Hmph, it’s too late for regrets. Incestuous rape or incestuous murder, it’s all the same. I have nothing to lose, brother.”

His brother’s wicked words made Na Baek-Cheon’s vision swim. He felt like he had been stabbed in the back.

“Y-you… how dare you utter such filth! Are you even my brother? The Vice-Commander of the Sichuan Martial Alliance? You have no fear of heaven?!”

“To hell with heaven and the Vice-Commander! I’m just the ‘Leader’s Brother,’ a nobody. The Vice-Commander of Sichuan is nothing but a pawn in your game. I might as well destroy everything!”

Na Baek-Cheon’s heart sank, hearing his brother’s bitter words.

“Yes, yes, destroy everything! Starting with our dear brother! I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and I finally came up with a brilliant plan. I’ve been holding back, but this is the perfect opportunity. Hehehe.”

Na Baek-Cheon’s face flushed with anger.

“She’s your niece! You’re calling it revenge to defile a young girl who’s already suffering? No human could come up with such a vile and despicable plan!”

Il-Cheon looked at him, his eyes wide with mock innocence.

“That’s why I came up with it. I’m human, not a beast.”

    Na Baek-Cheon snapped.

“You’re worse than a beast! You brought this upon yourself! You blamed everyone else for your misfortune and coveted the position of Leader! You’re not worthy of being the Leader, even if you live for a thousand years!”

“Hmph, the strong rule the martial arts world. A tyrant like me!”

He lunged before he could finish his sentence. A flurry of sword strikes rained down on Na Baek-Cheon. But this time, he was prepared. He effortlessly deflected his brother’s attacks.

He knew his brother’s swordsmanship like the back of his hand. He had taught him everything he knew. The outcome was already decided. He blocked another attack, his face filled with sorrow, tears streaming down his cheeks.

“I didn’t teach you swordsmanship to be used for such evil… You fool! I’ll end your miserable life myself!”

His sword flashed. It was several times faster than his brother’s sword. It was the true White Soul Sword Thunder Sword Style, its speed blinding. It was impossible to block.

    “Aaaaaargh!”

Il-Cheon screamed, dropping his sword. Blood spurted from his left arm.

“In the end, I can’t defeat you in anything, Na Baek-Cheon!”

He no longer called him “brother.”

    “You dare?”

“Kekeke! Our bond is already broken. You’re not still clinging to it, are you?”

His words stung. Na Baek-Cheon had been blinded by anger and concern for his daughter, but he had secretly hoped that his brother could be redeemed. His words were a confirmation of his worst fears. He pointed his sword at him and shouted,

    “Apologize!”

    “Apologize for what?”

He asked, his voice laced with mockery, despite the pain.

“I don’t expect you to apologize to me. But you have to apologize to her, the young girl you’ve scarred for life!”

He pointed at the girl, who had regained consciousness and was trembling with fear. She looked like she would faint again if their eyes met.

    Il-Cheon smiled cruelly.

“I apologize, Ye-Rin! Your uncle apologizes! I’m so sorry. I’m sorry I couldn’t teach you the taste of adulthood. But don’t worry, I’ll make it up to you someday. I’ll tear into your soft flesh and shower you with affection. I promise!”

    *Thud.*

She collapsed. The flood of black malice had swallowed her soul. The thick, viscous aura of evil had overwhelmed her already broken mind. It was too much for her to bear. All colors, all sounds, faded away. The light disappeared. She disappeared. Nothing remained.

    “Y-you…!”

Na Baek-Cheon was horrified. But his daughter was more important than punishing his brother. He turned to her, his heart filled with concern. Her condition was strange. He felt a chill run down his spine.

    “Ye-Rin! Ye-Rin!”

Her eyes, once bright as stars, were now clouded, as if a storm had gathered within them. She lay on the bed, her eyes open but unseeing, her body stiff as a statue.

    “Ye-Rin, wake up! Ye-Rin!”

    Her heart was closed.

She was falling into the abyss of despair, consumed by darkness.
