Chapter 81: The Legend of the Savior #4
“Three minutes left.”
I whispered to Jonathan.
“The effect of demon subjugation lasts only three minutes. After that, the power of immortality will return to them. So, settle it within that time. Can you do it?”
“No- why should I settle it-“
“Come on, come on, remaining time 2 minutes 59 seconds, 58 seconds, 57 seconds- do we have time to be leisurely?”
“Damn it!”
Jonathan drew his sword and gritted his teeth.
The storm of magic subsided, and Wafa and Vetdi looked at their bodies in bewilderment.
Wafa spread his palms and squinted, while Vetdi spat, his expression one of utter disbelief.
The spectators murmured. The atmosphere was still one of half-belief, half-doubt.
“Did the power of immortality really disappear? They look the same as before.”
“There was some incredible storm, but… I don’t know!”
If I want to drive the point home, I have to show them directly.
I took out my dagger and raised it high.
“It’s over. The power of immortality now belongs to me. It’s not a lie. Everyone, open your eyes wide and watch.”
Not only the spectators, but even Wafa and Vetdi stared at me blankly.
Without hesitation, I plunged the dagger deep into my throat.
Squelch-
The feeling is disgusting, no matter how many times I experience it.
Along with the intense pain of tearing skin and piercing my throat, blood filled my mouth.
“Did you see that, Vetdi! Look, she committed suicide! Foolish girl!”
“How utterly stupid!”
The next moment, Wafa and Vetdi’s voices gradually faded.
Drip, drip.
I, who had fallen to the ground, rose again, blood trickling from my throat.
Fwip!
I roughly pulled out the dagger with one hand. The spectators gasped in shock.
This is the real power of 「Immortality」. Moreover, it’s the enhanced ability of 「Instant Resurrection」.
Unlike the orcs’ fake immortality, my immortality is always within me and cannot be nullified by anything.
“See? I don’t die. Because I wield the power of immortality.”
“No way, that’s impossible…”
“Only Lady Carmilla can wield immortality…!”
“Forget Carmilla.”
I said confidently.
I could feel every single orc gathered in this arena focusing on my every word.
I was now their new god, their absolute ruler.
‘The Savior. Indeed.’
I didn’t mind it much when the elder told me, but it felt quite good to experience it firsthand.
Their destinies hung on my every word and gesture.
“Let me be clear. Necromancy isn’t something only Carmilla can use. I wield necromancy too. And my necromancy is far superior to Carmilla’s. Now, if you have a brain, you’ll know whose side to be on.”
“That human girl stole immortality… It’s true. She’s superior to Carmilla…”
“Watch your words, brother! She’s not just a human girl! She’s Lady Estel!”
One orc raised both hands high.
“Lady Estel is superior to Carmilla! We follow Lady Estel!”
“Lady Estel! King of the Undead! Lady Estel! The new Lord of Death!”
“What are you doing… Can’t you stop! Our master is Lady Carmilla! This girl is a fraud!”
Vetdi shouted, veins bulging in his neck, but the orcs were no longer listening to him.
Sweat poured incessantly from Wafa’s forehead. His narrow eyes, buried in his plump flesh, constantly scanned the frenzied crowd around them.
“Damn it… They’re not listening to us… Those idiots…”
At this moment, Jonathan raised his voice anxiously.
“Estel! Are you done talking? Didn’t you say there were only three minutes left earlier!”
“Ah, sorry. There’s about a minute left now.”
“Aaaah! I’m going crazy!”
My suicide show to prove my immortality had further reduced Jonathan’s fighting time.
Jonathan no longer had time to hesitate.
He had to defeat Wafa and Vetdi within a minute.
“I don’t know! It’s now or never!”
With wild eyes, Jonathan charged forward, brandishing his sword.
“This guy has lost his mind!”
Vetdi swung his axe widely. This time too, Jonathan dodged it magnificently.
Vetdi, out of habit, blocked Jonathan’s subsequent sword strike with his arm.
Perhaps he didn’t believe my words after all. He must have still mistaken himself for being immortal.
“Kyaaaak!”
The price of misjudgment was horrific.
His cleanly severed arm rolled on the sandy ground. Bright red muscle and white bone were exposed at the wrist.
Vetdi screamed at the top of his lungs, clutching his arm.
“I… I cut it off. I cut off his arm… Uwahaha!”
Jonathan laughed dazedly, as if he still couldn’t believe what he had done.
“You damn… My arm, Kyaaa- My arm…! Lady Carmilla, my arm…!”
“Vetdi, shut up!”
“Are you kidding me, brother! That guy cut off my arm! It hurts so much! How can I endure this…!”
“I told you to shut up!”
Wafa glared at Vetdi with a panicked expression. Only then did Vetdi look up at the arena with eyes filled with pain.
But it was too late.
The spectators’ gazes had changed.
Everyone had clearly heard Vetdi’s scream. They no longer doubted me.
Vetdi’s arm was severed and did not return. Vetdi was no longer invincible, nor immortal.
“He’s an immortal orc… What is it? This is the first time I’ve seen Vetdi in so much pain.”
“Lady Estel is right. Those guys are no longer immortal…”
“The Immortal Orcs are finished! Lady Estel is the new god of immortality!”
The atmosphere completely shifted, and the spectator stands were filled with a new fervor never seen before. It was the dawn of a new era.
“Brothers! And don’t forget me, the Warrior Orc!”
“Of course! God of Death and Warrior Orc! God of Death and Warrior Orc!”
Jonathan, thoroughly excited, stomped his feet repeatedly, fueling the crowd’s enthusiastic response.
Only Wafa and Vetdi, the two orcs, remained isolated, unable to join the fervor.
“Next is your turn, Wafa!”
“Wait, wait! Let’s talk! We are orcs with intellect! We can resolve this through conversation!”
“Say that to the brothers you’ve killed!”
Jonathan, filled with confidence and brimming with energy, charged at Wafa.
Wafa instinctively raised his two fists with knuckle dusters, but it was evident he didn’t know what to do next.
Wafa’s fighting style had always relied solely on immortality, exchanging blows and taking damage.
With immortality gone, Wafa had to relearn blocking and evading from scratch.
“Die!”
Of course, Jonathan didn’t allow him that time.
Swish-
Jonathan’s sword tore through Wafa’s belly. His large abdomen spilled its contents onto the ground in an instant.
“Guek-!”
A pig-like scream echoed.
Wafa desperately tried to scoop up his scattered innards before collapsing.
Jonathan, his eyes gleaming with the thrill of battle, wiped the blood and grease from his sword onto Wafa’s clothes.
“Did everyone see! Wafa is nothing without the power of immortality! He just ate a lot like a pig and got fat!”
“That’s right, Jonathan! Warrior Orc! Warrior Orc!”
“Finish off Vetdi too!”
“I plan to! Vetdi, you come here too!”
Vetdi was startled when he was called out.
Clutching his severed wrist, Vetdi backed away.
“I… I paid the price. Look. My arm is cut off.”
“It’s not enough, Vetdi. The price is only your head.”
“Damn it…!”
Vetdi grabbed his axe with his good hand. Cornered, Vetdi threw the axe at Jonathan as a last resort.
Whoosh-
Jonathan dodged the axe by slightly tilting his head.
“Is that all, Vetdi? Pathetic!”
Jonathan cleanly decapitated Vetdi, ending the duel.
The bodies of the two orcs lay on the cold winter ground. Seeing the red innards, the severed hand, and the orc’s head, the spectators were plunged into a frenzy.
“Waaaaah-!”
It was impossible to even understand what they were shouting anymore. The roar of the orcs, mixed into one like a giant wave, filled the arena.
‘As expected, Jonathan has the makings of a boss.’
I was satisfied with Jonathan’s first real fight. He was usually a grumbling and timid orc, but he was still an orc.
When he stepped into battle, he did his part without shame. With more experience, he would do much better.
“Estel, I won! It’s all thanks to you!”
“Yes, yes. You did well.”
“You were right. Their immortal power disappeared, and thanks to that, I won. From now on, I will never doubt your words.”
Jonathan’s eyes overflowed with trust in me.
“Jonathan, but there’s still something you need to finish.”
“Something else? Do I have to fight again? I’m a bit tired, though…”
“No, just do some talking. You’re good at that.”
“Really? Then leave it to me.”
Jonathan nodded as I whispered in his ear.
“I see, I understand.”
Jonathan raised his sword again and leaped over the fence separating the arena from the spectator stands.
Jonathan took a deep breath and shouted in a loud voice. His vocal projection was so booming that no amplifier was needed.
“Brothers! Silence! Listen to me!”
“Speak, Warrior Orc!”
“Speak! Speak!”
“Our enemies still remain! Our greatest enemy is not Wafa and Vetdi!”
“Who are they! Who is our enemy!”
The orcs were simple-minded. Like a fire that has caught, once the atmosphere was created, there was no stopping it.
If I just fanned the flames gently, they would burn fiercely until the fuel ran out.
And Jonathan was a natural expert at fanning flames. He smoothly took over the power vacuum left by Wafa and Vetdi’s disappearance.
“I ask you. Carmilla, are you still afraid of that witch!”
“Ca, Carmilla…?”
“I ask again. Are you afraid of Carmilla! The Lord of Death, who wields superior necromancy, is by our side! I, Warrior Orc, am also here! Are you afraid of Carmilla!”
“We are not afraid! We are not afraid! Carmilla is nothing!”
I surveyed the arena, which had transformed into something like a cult gathering, with sharp eyes.
I found them quickly. Figures cloaked in black robes.
They were Carmilla’s subordinates, who had the role of resurrecting the corpses after Wafa and Vetdi killed the orcs.
Sensing the sudden shift in the atmosphere, the cloaked figures were cautiously making their way towards the arena entrance.
“Jonathan, over there. Those guys.”
“Understood.”
As I pointed them out, Jonathan commanded the orcs again.
“We are no longer Carmilla’s slaves! We are not afraid of Carmilla! Brothers, look! Those lackeys are running away, fearing us!”
“Don’t let them escape! Don’t let them escape!”
“Yes, let’s show them our rage!”
The cloaked figures were terrified. Their feet got caught in their robes, they slipped and fell, trying to escape in a hurry, but it was useless.
The enraged orcs had already surrounded the cloaked figures in several layers.
“Where do you think you’re going!”
“Kill them! Kill them!”
They didn’t even need weapons. The orcs, with their bulging knuckles, approached the cloaked figures.
The figures were buried among the orcs, no longer visible, and only the cheers of excitement and the sounds of something breaking and bursting could be heard.
